There's also an alternate version of Travel's startup sound, where you can hear "All aboard!" before the train whistle. Not so sure if it was unused or not, but it might be an extended version of the final version's startup sound.
It does. Even though the startup and shutdown sounds was originally supposed to be used for Architecture theme although the next build Microsoft reworked the sounds to used them for Cityscape theme, the next build is when the Architecture theme startup and shutdown sounds got replace those dark ambient and creepy sounds.
Wow, I had no idea those theme versions and sound scheme versions originally existed, and I have never seen the Gourmet and Skateboard Kid desktop themes. I wonder why none of them made it to the final build?
@@DuranMedine I agree! It also would have been excellent to use those beta wallpapers in the final release so users would have wallpaper choices, just like what they did with the desktop themes in Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP.
@@DuranMedine Those desktop themes actually existed? Hmm, I don't know if I've seen them yet, though they sound very interesting. Alongside the aforementioned elements sadly taken out of the final release of Microsoft Plus! 98 (such as the Gourmet and Skateboard Kid desktop themes), both the Ancient Pathways and Tropical Interlude themes also would have been amazing to use in it by default.
This is nostalgia for me, in 2013 I couldn't get to use this version of Plus 98! Build 1700 when I was using Windows 98 before, in 2016 until today I can't use it anymore, because my graphics card is AMD Series and it is not compatible with old windows in virtual machines, so the only thing left to do is to stay seeing the past.
The Gourmet and Stakeboard Kid themes looked kinda out of place for the aesthetics that Plus! 98 was going for. Thank goodness these themes were cut from the next build after build 1700.
The next build after build 1700 would introduce the Cityscape, Geometry, Rock-n-Roll, and PhotoDisc themes. All though, the mouse pointers , backgrounds, sounds, and other visuals for the themes ended up being reworked having to their final versions.
The only reason why the Horror Channel sound files from the Horror Channel theme is not working, it's due to the sound compression you'll need an audio editing program to re-save as .wav file in order make them work in Windows XP.
That's true. It's because in Build 1700 they were still working on the sounds while they used those placeholder sounds, until the next build they ended up the changing the sounds to the RTM sounds.
I love these desktop themes' sound effects better than the final Plus! 98 sounds.

It's definitely a prototype of the startup sounds for the Travel that was in pre-release of Microsoft Plus! for Windows 95 Build 50.
It's no wonder I kept hearing "Marge?", because I think of Homer Simpson whenever I hear the final version's Travel startup sound
The Cityscape startup and shutdown sounds in this build are slightly different compared to the ones from the final version.

They should've kept the Gourmet and Skateboard Kid themes in the final build. The World Traveler theme in Build 1700 had a nice background.

@@CEO100able It would've been also nice if Microsoft included the Ancient Pathways and Tropical Interlude theme to Windows 98 and Windows Me.

I still use Windows 98 in a VM-Ware virtual machine for old games on my 2017 iMac.
I kinda like the placeholder sounds for some of these, wonder if they could have fit a theme later on with those sounds
I actually like the one for the startup sound for Architecture theme in Build 1700.
The Garfield startup sound faded out sooner than it did in the final release.
I noticed they tried to make it shorter, even though they decided to make it longer in the later builds and the final build.

Architecture used Cityscape sounds before the real ones.
Yeah it's Similar!
And it's the Whistler Beta 2 Fake Startup Sound
I wonder if all thos URLs once existed.
They did. They probably still work.

Also World Traveller changed its pic in the Rtm build
The World Traveler theme received the RTM Wallpaper in Build 1722.
:) xxxxxx
@@DuranMedine i liked the beta wallpaper for world traveler
Huge pity Bill Gates threw that in the trash
