It's not just the losing FB friends, it's the beginning of Marina's 'possessing' of Laura. Marina makes Laura's account post her suicide video so that she would look like a psycho and therefore lose followers, therefore people to contact once it get's hectic??? Eventually she'll be completely alone, no one to support her, no one to care what she posts online anymore, exactly like Marina. That opens up a perfect window for Marina to possess Laura, the person at the end of the movie.

Marina - lonely. 0 friends on Facebook. Laura - not lonely. 800+ friends on Facebook. Laura hurt marina, so marina killed everyone and harassed Laura until she ended up with 0 friends, like Marina, and basically became the new marina at the end. Spoiler, everyone but Laura died ✌🏼
If this movie was good it could have symbolized her growing isolation and friends rejecting her. It could have been incorporated into the plot of Laura going from being extremely popular and partying to everyone icing her and bullying her. It could also coincide with her mental dependence on online viewership? Imagine she starts the movie off healthy and normal but as she slowly creeps towards 0 followers she goes crazier and crazier, eventually snapping and turning into what marina was in the beginning. No dumb possessions and it gives her way more character.

It was a cheap Movie with too many Jumpscares, but the ending was even worse.
We could have had some things: The mother of the crazy girl stepping in, or the 2 boys she murdered stepping in, or whatever.
Or MC saving herself.
But nope, none of these things happened. Even though the 2 Boys were even shown - for no apparent reason at all.
Well, that's Bad Writing.

Marina killed all her friends and mom because she wanted her to know how it feels to lose everything in your life and still get rejected by people.

Seriously, Laura didn't do ANYTHING to Marina for her to torment her like that. All she did was try to distance herself. Marina was overly obsessed, possessive, relentless, and expected way too much from Laura. She was WAY too clingy! I'd stop being friends with a person like that, too. Ugh.

I felt soooo much for Laura in this movie. I’ve been in a similar situation minus the suicide and deaths of friends. This one girl wanted to be friends with me so badly, which was fine. I tried my best to be friendly to her and welcome her into my friend group. But it just wasn’t good enough for her. The entire campus knew she was a bit weird and there were rumors on campus that she was into witchcraft. The girl soon became obssessed with me, approaching me and my friends, staring me down (and not blinking at that). One time she walked up to me fast, slammed her tray down, and stared at me. Yes, I did have to go to the Dean of Students eventually and me and my friend had to file a couple of reports. They ended up having her finish her final exams at home (all of this occurred towards the end of the semester). But it was creepy and it was a terrible situation to be in because people think you did something wrong to a sensitive and irrational person, when sometimes it’s just their insecurities and fear of being alone and not accepted control their lives and they become obssessed.

And did you try to resolve the issue with her by means of open and honest communication before pushing her away? Like, did you try to let her know in a friendly and peaceful manner that there were certain things she was doing wrong and that she should stop doing those things? Because if she had some mental disorder (and it sounds like she did), chances are that she was not aware of what she was doing wrong - much like Marina in this movie.

The two detectives in the subplot do suspect Laura of being more involved than she seems, but it never really gets resolved. The videos (and deaths) do get their attention, but they don’t arrest her because they can’t tie her directly to the killings (witchcraft apparently doesn’t leave IP addresses) though they do tell her to delete her account. To their credit, they did somewhat acknowledge that Marina had issues before Laura got into a fight with her, and early on said they were looking at the case from all angles.
What bothered me most is they never asked how this dead girl was adding people on her fb the day they got killed. Very stupid cops

I never understood the hospital scene. I mean none of the staff even bothered to stop the patient aimlessly wandering around the hospital.
Seriously. It’s one thing when they are alone for them to hallucinate or be possessed but there should have been people in the hospital trying to help or stop her with the screaming and all. And there could have been ways to handle it like her seeing the hospital staff as the dead/mutilated/monsters and fleeing them.

From what I've seen, Marina was the instigator of this whole movie. Laura was only trying to be nice towards her, however Marina's actions by posting the weird images and videos to Laura and acting like a stalker was what made this happen. If I were in Laura's shoes it would have been a little different. This is what I'd do:
First, I would ask to talk with Marina in private about her videos and posts asking why she uploads such stuff. Next I would be asked why I lied to her and I would say this "Because we aren't complete friends yet, we only met like two weeks ago, I barely know much about you and it would be hard to bring you to my party and integrate you with others that I've been friends with for longer. It's just a matter of knowing that I need to have more time trying to know you better first."
Then after she tries to fight with me and reveals her hair issue, I'd go after her and try to reassure her that she shouldn't have done what she did and I'd try to make up with her.
Hoping that works, I would keep marina as a friend but have her on a blacklist so her pictures and videos don't come up as often.
That would prevent her from trying to commit revenge via the black mirrors.

This movie is not real life and she definitely has issues BUT I believe that's what makes you right. Though, I have seen a lot of relationship handled in the same careless way the main character and her long term friends handle them....I would have loved to watch a movie where at least half of what you would have done happens, with everyone being good friends, and something else triggering her. Truth is though, that a lot of people (even if they have a lot of friends) do not have enough empathy to handle even knowing someone who shows they have issues---So they have less compassion for those who have too many issues to function properly. So in a small way, this is unfortunately realistic.

In this fan fiction Laura does not unfriend Marina and then their friendship blossoms into something else. And the revenge plot never happens. It’s a beautiful story and it has some similarities in it to what you would have done.

There’s actually something that I thought was interesting in the movie but it gets overlooked often, ma rina tells Laura that she’s been working on a gift for her birthday for over two weeks and Laura says I’ve only known you for two weeks! Meaning that ma rina was already stalking her before the friend request
nice catch! I certainly didn't notice that timeline issue.
Honestly, it would have been enough for Marina to have been looking at Laura's Facebook page for a day or so before sending her a friend request. Laura was the only one who accepted the request (remember she was Marina's ONLY friend on the list), and since Marina was so mentally broken by her loneliness, just that gesture of the request being accepted was enough to give her hopes that she and Laura would become best friends, and when she saw it was Laura's birthday in two weeks, it motivated her to work on a present.
It really saddens me how so many people are missing the point of this movie. The message it's trying to send is not "The Internet is full of creeps.", it's about how mentally damaging loneliness can be, and how mentally damaging LIES and OSTRACISM can be. Everything would have been different if Laura had just been honest with Marina and tried to resolve the issues with her through healthy communication, instead of listening to her friends who encouraged her to invalidate Marina's feelings and treat her as if she wasn't a human being only because she had mental disorders (which were a result of her severely traumatic past, as we saw later in the movie).
She actually says “ I haven’t even known you for two weeks

Not to mention when she posts stuff like that of course it's going to get a certain kind of reaction as a kid. I get the message they were trying to convey but it was done so poorly
@@Mizuna626 she murdered those kids because they were constantly bullying her, torturing her physically and emotionally, beating her so hard that she literally bled! What she did to them was practically self-defense, she had no other way to put an end to what they were doing to her. Besides, she killed them by casting a curse on them and she was a small child when she did that, chances are she simply cast that curse as an outburst of anger and despair, without expecting it to actually work. And she even felt guilty about it later (more than she should have, if you ask me, regarding what those bullies were doing to her), because if you pause on her Facebook posts and read them, you will see one of them containing a drawing of a black wasp, captioned something like "The past always comes back to haunt me", which shows that she was being tormented by what she did to those two, in spite of the fact that they honestly didn't deserve any better.

The premise is pretty ridiculous, but I think the dumbest detail is that her Facebook friends seem to hold so much importance. Like, the movie seems to treat it like a countdown clock, like her losing her status as popular girl is more important than her or her friends dying.
I saw a comment further down saying this is basically the premise to a South Park episode, and when you say it out loud, yeah it totally is. "That weird girl you unfriended is a witch and she''s killing all your friends!""Oh no, we need to stop her before all my Facebook followers go away!" That same kind of cloudcuckoolander reasoning for the characters to do what they're doing.

That impulse control disorder is actually called Trichotillomania. It's a disorder that causes people to rip out hair on their body (not only the scalp, but can also be on other parts of the body, like arms, eyebrows, eyelashes, pubes, etc). I actually have the disorder and it's really not fun to have. It gets more persistent if I'm stressed out or in a stressful situation, and at one point I had multiple bald spots on my scalp which I had to hide wearing a hat. It's gotten a bit better now, but I always wear my hat now because of it.
