@@louisethomas8074 Daley was in the Hamburg club. He never admitted to being in the riot, but I believe he was there. Additionally, there were a few Blacks on the police department. I think one of them were killed. There has been articles on the 1919 riots, many of them extremely informative.

This was incredibly due to competition over jobs and black workers being used as "scabs" on critical factory jobs. That was a major trangression back then. Whites killed whites over that kind of stuff. Some of the big companies were reckless with that situation, and the police were useless in that regard, along with the rest of city govt. There were a lot of southern white workers who migrated to Chicago also, who led the way in hostilities. It didn't take much to get a beef going. There was testosterone bubling at evey turn...a very dangerous place to get caught alone.
