That was probably the best amp demo song i've ever heard.
Crushing tones, great mix and sick songwriting!
Congrats, man!
Thanks, man \m/
dude i love your demo method. very detailed and showcases the part we all need to know about the amp character. keep em coming
There’s something about how these Driftwood amps work that remind me of how people would modify Marshall amps in the 80’s, but to modern spec.
idk how common it was for people to put boosts in front of josé modded Marshall’s or if a lot of guitar players just plugged straight in but this seems to get a lot of those same results but from a different amplifier platform in a different context of heavy guitar playing, or even lead playing for that matter if you have the footswitch.
Sounds pretty badass!
I went for the Nightmare mini. very happy. metal as hell. in front of the clean chanel i drive an "oh my goat!" pedal.. a bit more features than this model but at a smaller size 22W type.
thanks for showcasing this bigger top.
This amp sounds really but really good actually..
Would love to see you demo and give your thoughts on a 'Megalith Beta' by MI Audio. They're hard to come by, but they're some absolute monsters.
great demo! just subbed - Question: Is this exactly like one of the Purple Nightmares channels ? Which one do you recommend, Purple Nightmare or the Darkest Night ? I want to get this to pair it with a SLO-100. It will mainly be in the studio and I have other clean amps to choose from.
I've only played this amp from driftwood no I wouldn't be able to tell you how it compares.
@@MetalHeadProductions going to get darkest nightmare. Cheers !
@@maximumguitarage enjoy, killer amp for sure
The two gain channels are definitely different. The Purple Nightmare is more in the 5150/Recto direction and the Darkest Nightmare is more in the British distortion direction. I prefer the Darkest Nightmare.
Gotta love those Germans, they know how to make some great gear!!
I've got this amp, with these tubes, and it's facemelting killer!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also... you can order it with built-in load box.
Hear me out, I think they did the right thing by NOT including a loadbox. All good load boxes take up quite a bit of size, create vibrations and a magnetic field, add weight, and incorporate a fan.
I don’t want that junk in my amp head and I don’t want a compromised loadbox to fit inside an amp head. Much better to use an external loadbox. But yeah, not sure why they even bother with IR loader but it would make a lot of sense live when you need to send an IR to FOH
Cool video! I always thought these were more recrifier voiced than 5150
My rectos never felt or sounded like this, personally.
@@MetalHeadProductions cool man! I have never owned or played a recto or a driftwood. Every review of The driftwoods i have encountered heavily compared to rectos and even called them the modern boutique rectifier. Dont matter to me that much, i just liked your view and demo :) cheers
@@jamesfindice2871 I get that a bit because of the low end, but the gain structure is a lot more like a 5150, and the EQ is may more like a 5150 and not like a recto at all. It's almost like the amp is a modern recto mixed with a 5150.
@@MetalHeadProductions yeah Sounds about what i hear on your demo. Lovely amp!
On the purple nightmare you can have the night switch engaged and not need to have a load plugged in
Yeah, shame this one doesn't have it, at stock.
Have you ever demo'd a Science amp? Would love to see you put an Earthling through its paces
I have not, but I'd like to
@@MetalHeadProductions same lol
So driftwood or Granophyre!?!?
Both are great, personally I prefer the Granophyre. Grano is more dry and tight, the driftwood is more saturated and has the built in features, so can't go wrong either way.
@@MetalHeadProductions I got a Bogner Helios in so once that’s paid off I’ll do a deposit on a Grano.
@@Rooster7six nice, love that amp so much
Damn.. Great amp but no built-in load box. That's a letdown. Thanks for warning me as now I have to ignore that in my decision.
Your demo still sounds great though!
Bedroom artist vs live artist, you seem to be the former
You can order it with built-in load box.
A load box is an option that you can opt in or out off. My Darkest Nightmare has one
@@kyleaugustin4584 oh cool. So you can get it with just the IR loader or with the IR loader and the load box?
I suppose having an external unit is better anyway if you have multiple amps. And another comment is right.. This is useful for live, where you typically don't need a load box, unless it's an attenuator.
@@XChristianNoirX yep! It comes standard with the IR loader which I use live to our IEM and occasionally as an additional FOH. The load box just makes it so I don’t have to bring a cab if it’s a small stage and just run it directly to FOH
Have you tried the purple nightmare? Is the darkest nightmare voiced differently?
I haven't gotten to try a purple nightmare unfortunately. I believe the darkest nightmare just has less channels but is the main high gain channel from the purple nightmare.
