I think I love the GP more than any other aircraft you've ever flown on FT. This was an epic way to put this one down. Peter you are a fungineering genius.
Even three years later this is a fantastic video. It's crazy how well it held together after all that abuse. Every time I watch this it makes me want to build a Guinea Pig right away.
While this was fun, and i love how resilient modern foam rc planes are, this is a good example of how overpowered they are compared to their weight. It doesn't seem like it takes much skill anymore to fly rc planes, let alone landing them. That's something i admire of the balsa/gasoline engine era of rc flight. It was dangerous, fragile, but there was a certain finesse to it. I don't mean to sound like i'm underminding the FliteTest crew. I love those guys. This was just my observeration from this video. That poor guinea pig :(
I've said it before, I'll say it again. You all at flite test are crazy awesome! You inspire me and infuriate the purists who can't climb out of the box and be creative like you.
F-15. The primary metric to consider is the thrust to weight ratio. The F-15 has one of the highest. The 1983 F-15D in that accident had a thrust to weight ratio greater than 1:1 which means the F-15 has enough power to hover straight up into the air like a rocket. Modern versions of the F-15 are greater than 1:1 which means they could fly straight up like a rocket (no wings at all). Of course it’s more complicated than that - you need enough control surface area to keep the aircraft stable. But that’s relatively simple math and design compared to having a >1:1 thrust to weight ratio.

we are not children anymore... so we can do really cool stuff, with really big toys, that we always wanted. and then film it and post it online as an excuse to do this..... i love it
Now the challenge is to repair it. You have the technology to make it faster, stronger, better. Then rename it Steve Austin [cue bionic sound effect music, play slow motion montage]
That was a great video and great piloting skills from both of you. Only way it flew that long was the crazy skills you both have. I know you know better pilots but that's crazy putting a loop into the contest and both of you pulling it off like it's not much of a challenge.
good way to get under 250 grams... for a game you could paint a giant dart board or bullseye with a few rings. do a circuit, come in and try to land on the bullseye. each ring is a certain amount of points. most points wins.
Do monopoly next, integrate it like a dogfight. Have a set of planes, each a different type, and assign prices based on capability in a dogfight. Each person starts out with, say a nutball, and they dogfight with streamers. Whoever wins gets the money that the plane is worth, and can use it to buy a better plane. Whoever has the most planes or money wins at the end of the game. There's probably some flaws in this, but if you guys could find a way to implement it well, then please try it out! Nice video, keep up the awesome work!
I know of an old GA pilot years ago who, on a dare, removed every inspection panel and 4 of the 6 prop bolts on his plane and flew it around. This just reminded me of that.
Ok, as a final challenge, do a calculation of the wing load using the area before the last 4 holes when it basically still was air worthy;) Then see what the stall speed and total wing area is as compared to an "unmodified" Guinea.
Back in the hellion days, we had weekly Jenga tournaments. Our Jenga game was modified though; the pieces had obligations on the bottom- and you had to perform them. There were : Take a gulp from your beer Chug your beer Do a shot Do 2 shots Choose anyone else to do a shot Chicken Dance Truth or Dare to the person on the left *we also had a few more, but they were based around controlled dangerous substances, but I know this is a family show ;)
I got a lot of sweet new stuff at the Toledo show. But I was most excited about meeting you guys! (Josh and Peter) Thanks for the picture, you guys are awesome!
So glad to see this video with "Josh Bixter" and "Peter Shreepole" on Outrageous acts of science last night. LOL. You'd think they could at least get your name right.
The reason it lasted is because you have a lot of power in those two motors so it doesn't need much surface to stay flying as it can fly for as long as it is still able to stay in control and stable.
Ok, here's a couple of things I'd love to see. How many paintball shots can one of these foamboard planes take? Have it fly around while someone tries to shoot it down. Also, can you make a decent and reasonably durable plane out of food. Dry spaghetti for structure and things like lettuce or spinach for outer skin. Maybe a touch of cling-film and aluminum foil. I would love to see how long that would fly for and what food would be chosen. Plenty of hot glue of course.
What you've also inadvertently discovered, is how extremely OVERDESIGNED and OVERBUILT Peter's design actually is! And I love it! :)
You should have a bonus game, where you repair it using nothing but painter's masking tape, then keep drilling more holes!
I think I love the GP more than any other aircraft you've ever flown on FT. This was an epic way to put this one down. Peter you are a fungineering genius.
+Dudeman9339 best DAMN word to describe peter, a fungineer!
That plane has so many holes, it looks like it flew In WWII
WWII BOmber flying through enemy Anti-Aircraft fire. 1944 Colorized
too soon
It did fly in WW2.
WW 1. Interrupter vs bristol type 22! Dogfights
looks like it was slow to take off in the six day war =)
This immediately went into my top 5 favorite FT videos! I love when yall make up games involving RC planes! Especially destructive games :)
Even three years later this is a fantastic video. It's crazy how well it held together after all that abuse. Every time I watch this it makes me want to build a Guinea Pig right away.
Epic! The best thing about Flite Test is the awesome on screen personality interaction. Love this channel!
RC equivalent to B-17!
+FSXgta or a Wellington :)
aw you beat me to the comment

*This game just proves how well designed and how durable your planes are.*
*Good advertisement guys!*
*And great game too!*
I can't get my plane to fly but they put holes in theirs and it fly's fine😕
Spiderfly Same here
Same
Sad
Same I make foam gliders they fly but they break alot
Probably the most fun Flite Test episode in a while! That was pretty cool!
I like how all their drill batteries died so they started using a hobby one
I've said it before, I'll say it again. You all at flite test are crazy awesome! You inspire me and infuriate the purists who can't climb out of the box and be creative like you.
just thinking how toxic is the soil in that pile of dirt... they have been filming it for two years and not a single thing has grown on it...
They add dirt every couple of days :)
If you watch earlier vids you can see how it's grown!
+Wagacca to hide the bodies
+FliteTest who's they? Aliens?
+deathpony698 so you mean Obama
Calum Barr ja
Well done guys! This was a really fun episode. Peter, what a great design.
It's a holy plane
haha Josh and Peter just got this game as one of the Outrageous Acts of Science, Accident or Design episode. nice
Now you can see why the A-10 warthog can fly missing most of one wing and only one engine.
Amazing plane though
An Israeli F-14 or F-15 did that in a training exercise once... you can find the story online if you look

I love these nutty experiments you guys do! Keep up the brilliant work!
This made it on outrageous acts of science! Good job
so can a block of swiss cheese fly? Yes... yes it can
I saw you in Casey neistat comments! Also, funny joke :)
if you subscribe you will see more of me... :-)
This was an awesome video. You can really tell they're having a blast
wow you wasted a HOLE plane ;)
Puns.

The best part was that your drill battery died, so you hooked it up to a Lipo!!!

Watching in 2018!
This is one of my favorite episodes!
Looks like you guys are back, flight testing and having fun 👍
Very impressive airframe, I didn't think it would last as long as it did :)
My thumb goes up for you.
Great video guys great to know how durable foam is and how a board built plane can fly great even if not (now) perfectly shaped. Great fun thanks 👍🏻
Now the challenge is to repair it. You have the technology to make it faster, stronger, better. Then rename it Steve Austin [cue bionic sound effect music, play slow motion montage]
"When the tower crumbles and the plane crashes, it's game over" -Peter Striprol 2016. Omg
Well, this is the craziest thing yall have done so far! LOL!! Can't wait to see how you're going to top this!!
Those see-through wings.... you should make an "invisible" plane out of lexan or something similar!
That was a great video and great piloting skills from both of you. Only way it flew that long was the crazy skills you both have. I know you know better pilots but that's crazy putting a loop into the contest and both of you pulling it off like it's not much of a challenge.
Super impressive that it flew for so long!
There are the types of videos that make this channel great. So much fun.
Magnificent! After all those years, I still enjoy A LOT this video!!!!! Thanks!!!!!
good way to get under 250 grams...
for a game you could paint a giant dart board or bullseye with a few rings. do a circuit, come in and try to land on the bullseye. each ring is a certain amount of points. most points wins.
Do that and put a nail on the end of the plane so you can do a large sideways target like a dartboard
Testament to the durability of your builds guys. Great video

by far one of the best episodes, lol!!!! shows how much fun you can have with foam!!
You guys make the hobby so much more fun!
That was original and cool! ;)

When Peter Sripol was still a Flite Teste member. The memories.
I learned aerodynamics in college, and I would never have expected this plane would have lifted off the ground after the first hole. Wow!
looks like you had a lot of fun!!! and the rest of this space will be left intentionally
empty!!!
this was Fun and Sad to see at the same time.
+Totally left Field Makes me want to build that plane next. Although I should probably start with the Explorer first.
Yea I don't like to watch rcs of any kind dye
What a great video. Shows you how tough these foam planes are
You guys got on Outrageous Acts of Science!!
I bet you could just duck tape it back together and it'll fly just fine
What a fun idea! Totally playing this with my buddy this weekend!
I am in the mood for ham and cheese.
StoneBlueAirlines swiss cheese
This was a fun video & a great demonstration of air worthiness. A lot of fun to watch
Loved the idea behind this video. Very original!
What a GREAT episode FT! Laughing all the way!
Great video and this shows how well designed the gin pig is so well done Peter
T... Th... They swiss cheesed a PLANE!!! THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE CHANNEL!!!
The troll face at 4:53 almost broke my ribs
This would be a great lesson for ft stem. It would show kids what's important aerodynamically and structurally and what's not.
Ok, as a final challenge, do a calculation of the wing load using the area before the last 4 holes when it basically still was air worthy;) Then see what the stall speed and total wing area is as compared to an "unmodified" Guinea.

Even cows can fly with enough power and some stability.. Funny proof ;-)
weight reduction😂😂
Not really since the holes they drilled in to the fuselage the pieces stayed in there
The wing peices fell out
at its finest
You got a hole in your left wing
@Bogdan Ungureanu you got a hole in both your wings!
Reminds me of when in Star trek in the middle of a battle the computer says "hull integrity at 15%"
I got a lot of sweet new stuff at the Toledo show. But I was most excited about meeting you guys! (Josh and Peter) Thanks for the picture, you guys are awesome!
that plane is so holy i think the pope is jealous
MWB Gaming this coment is underrated
Your account picture tho.
This is a public service announcement: always spay/neuter your foam board planes.
fun to see you guys horseing around!
Clearly Peter overbuilt/over designed this thing. You obviously only need half the foamboard in your design. Bravo, Peter, Bravo.
so much freaking fun! Well done guys!
This is an awesome idea. And hilarious.
Pretty cool fun, guys! Well done!!!
This may be a really cruel challenge request. Build a plane from Mountain Dew cans.
You guys need to make a drone with EDF engines, a dome-shaped wire mesh covering the intakes, and a sleek body. Let's see a net try to drop that.
HaHaaa!!! I love it! Now, that's the kind of tinkering I like, where the fundamentals of physics can be played with and learned from first-hand. :-)
love the lipo powered drill :)
If I land, if I land,Josh you know you're gonna land!great stuff

and you guys actually get paid for this??? LMAO
Best job on the planet.
You guys went through two batteries with that? Time to get a proper drill, I think :D
"Swiss Cheese Plane" would also work!
The reason it lasted is because you have a lot of power in those two motors so it doesn't need much surface to stay flying as it can fly for as long as it is still able to stay in control and stable.
tutorial on how to cut the weight down from your foamie :D
ahhhhh eggzackley! well said
I think that proves pretty well how good a plane that is. I need to get me one.
Fun times, fun to watchBetter to sharpen a hole saw work a file on the inside.
Keep the videos coming
This makes me very confident that I can build a rc plane that can fly after seeing that one that is falling apart can still fly

Peter acually did the food plane with Willian Osman, both great creators. ruclips.net/video/dpVp3NX-QOA/видео.html
What a great experiment!
Love it when you do videos like this
