Duct tape and memory foam are gifts from god. Duct tape has so many uses that its almost never used on ducts. I had no doubt that this would fly. Great job!!! (Noah = The reason we don't have flying cars yet.) :)
For the frame, use dry pasta (or toothpicks) and mini marshmallows. Once the marshmallows dry out, they lock in the the pasta/toothpicks making a very nice structure.
My memory claims I've seen a a clip where they replace the skin on an airplanes wing with duct tape, and that it actually flew. But it also tries to tell me it was done by the MythBusters. However no search I've tried has turned up anything like that. The closest I got was an episode where they skin a portion of the fuselage of an ultralight using duct tape. It flew, but it was looking pretty scary. The duct tape "skin" was somewhat elastic and was flopping wildly in the airflow. So either my memory is totally unreliable or I've just failed to find the correct clip. Unfortunately I'm pretty the correct answer is option A...
@@ulaB McGuyver made it out of bamboo frame covered with plastic garbage bags for the skin, and used duct tape to bind the bamboo together and attach the garbage bags to it.
Very nice, very light wing loading. i always wanted to build an ultralight model out of dollar store parts like bamboo skewers and foam board, but that design using duct tape is awesome! it's a floater!
@@MrJJandJim I never used the stuff. I would guess it would almost fly with a light coat of the seal. For some reason Alex's jacket reminded me how I've missed some faces for awhile now and not heard anything to even say goodbye if they're gone (haven't seen the old style intro in a long time either and I used to love that) Like Jeremy and Austin, but especially Matt. Hoping they and everyone else are doing OK during all this. Something like a multiplex easy star, bixler or similar is the best to start with imho. Motor in the back so it will take a hit, and they almost fly themselves. Also good glide slope and non agressive stalls. Plus you can start with rudder + elevator only and then add the ailerons when you advance.
just buy or build one of the simpler flight test kits, super simple to build and most importantly repair. I'd say go with two channel (rudder and elevator) dihedral top wing aircraft(they have really stable flight charastiritics) They're really easy to fly and won't overwhelm you at first. However if you have absolutely no experience flying or don't even have a buddy who could help you start flying, start off flying in the simulator, like real flight or something. One of the reasons I kinda wish I just got the Sport Cub S 2 first. But I do love the Champ for it's simplicity (it can't handle the wind very well). My wife bought me the Horizon Sport Cub S 2 during black Friday for like $75. Super deal, normally $139.99. I almost wish I started with this one. I never had it come lose or an accident, I just flew slow enough to stay in the air.
Now that you've built the 1/4 sized version, It's time to build the next demolition plane out of this. I think it would hold up well to mid-air strikes and maybe you could make the surface sticky so you could collect the planes that ran into you?
You could probably use more ribs in the wings and run the tape parallel to the trailing edge and get a smoother airfoil. Also, starting the tape on the trailing edge of the wing and overlapping the previous strip slightly, instead of running the tape like Josh did, will possibly increase the aerodynamic performance while decreasing the overall weight.
