No need to apologize for adding Godzilla Minus One to The List. You were absolutely correct to include it! From the start,this movie blows the viewer away and imparts such a sense of dread and near hopelessness that no other big creature FIM can. It's wonderful!

I really wanted to include Cobweb, Influencer, The Angry Black Girl and her Monster, Birth/Rebirth but I could only put 10. Also I really loved Beau is Afraid but it just wasn’t a horror movie enough to include kinda like Everything Everywhere all at Once last year. Making these list is tough. That’s why I made a best Independent list and a Original Streaming list this year.

I know Beau is debatable but I absolutely loved it and there's def enough twisted scenes/scenarios where I felt it was OK to include it. Saltburn was another I would have loved to put on there but that would have been even harder to make a case for. Still had elements of horror. Love your channel though I'd been looking forward to this list. Hope 2024 continues the trend of the last couple years. Us horror hounds have been blessed
Another great older movie that I though,just my opinion lol,was scary unique and fun was Manitou about an indian evil spirit trying to be reborn on the back of a woman. While it isn't perfect it's so unique and to me scary in some parts that I don't think it's talked about enough,and absolutely loved Graham Greene in Clearcut,lol,had to look away a few times but it was scary and strong cast in my opinion. Ahh man I'm so glad you loved Godzilla. I saw it and...my film of the year so brilliant, emotional. The monster is a bastard, no anti hero nonsense. He's just evil. Brilliant. As an aside I'm finally going to watch Thanksgiving tonight! Can't wait, Merry Christmas all! 🤙
Godzilla is getting a remaster in get this....black and white. Coming to theaters Jan 26th 2024. The director and staff of Godzilla Minus One said that somehow it makes the movie scarier than the color version. Like it tricks the mind into thinking you are watching a real life documentary. I cant wait for this!
I totally have to agree with When Evil Lurks. I am very hard to disturb or scare with horror movies. I have seen so many over the years, they just don’t faze me. But this one is absolutely wonderful. Scared the shit out of me. I have been telling everyone I know to check it out. Masterpiece.
When evil lurks was suchba good movie it was really a masterpiece good choice for making that the number one spot cause i had to shower after that movie
Saw X was a pleasant surprise. Certainly the best since Saw and Saw 2. It was the best film for humanising John Kramer and also the first Saw film I could get behind the the victims being punished - as I can call bullshit on him torturing and killing many others for seemingly minor human errors and flaws.
Interesting, I thought it was one of the worst in the series with little to tell and with ridiculous Kramers predictions. The times with ultra charismatic actors like Costas Mandylor and Scott Peterson are gone.
I have. Another movie that stews in the mind long after the credits. The director approaches the concept of evil in what may be its truest form: indiscriminate and absolute. No one is safe, even children. Terrified has scenes that have stuck with me. The director seems to be ramping up Evil’s reach; Terrified affected a street/block, When Evil Lurks a farmstead, a village… Can’t wait to see what else he creates.
Your lists are my go-to source for horrors and I usually agree with every single one of them, man. But I gotta say, in my opinion, Infinity Pool shouldn't be on the list of "best" anything. Another movie that falls into the "ambiguous ending" trope that just leaves whatever candle was burning with intrigue/excitement to just fizzle out. It is lazy writing when the audience has to fill in all the plot holes and explain things for themselves. At least some conclusive thoughtful talking points should be made, but just ends up being much ado about nothing and then they call it "intellectual." I know many won't agree with me, but that's my opinion.

I saw this alone in a completely empty theatre and it straight up rocked me! Seeing again, I was able to notice even more details. I got Shudder specifically for this one.
Everyone was praising this movie and I hated it. I was bored, I only got through half of it. I also watched the taking of Deborah Logan and thought it was excellent.

I don't really care for overly graphic horror movies on this list but my favorite horror movie I saw earlier this year was Barbarian. Godzilla Minus One is a horror movie of sorts and it was awesome I saw it twice and I'm going to see it again.

‘Godzilla Minus One’ is maybe the film I’m looking forward to seeing the most. I do like Godzilla as a creature but I’d never say the recent films were great, even though I enjoyed ‘Godzilla King of Monsters’ with the added stakes of King Ghidora. But this film sounds like it adds the human depth, character and emotion which those films lack. I hear it also brings the real danger and menace back to Godzilla that has been lacking in the recent monster verse movies. I’ll be checking it out when it’s streaming straight away.
I just couldn’t get down with Evil Dead Rise. I don’t know what it was about it, but it just didn’t hit with me. The Evil Dead reboot is one of my favorite horror movies, but this just didn’t the same magic.
Godjira Minus One. Pairs well with American King of Monsters. If you arent familiar with the monsters i would suggest watching the American King of Monsters. We get to see an old favorite King Gadorah. And a bad ass flying inferno that hasnt gotten screen time.

I didn't come to this realization until recent years, but a lot of people considers Jurassic Park and Jaws horror movies, so I would 100% say Godzilla Minus One is a horror movie. If you go back and check out the original from 1954, it absolutely has the tension building of old school horror. Possibly my favorite movie this year period, in what I believe to be an INCREDIBLE year for movies in general!!

Agree with you 100% on Evil Dead Rise (my fave of the year) and so glad Candy Land made the list. It surprised me and I recommend it all the time. Really the only film on your list I didn’t care for was Infinity Pool. I just thought the concept was great but could’ve been done much better.
3 of my top 4 were on your list (Thanksgiving, Saw X, and Talk to Me). The only one you didn’t have on it was The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Finally got a Dracula movie where he’s a terrifying monster rather than just a man in a tuxedo. I also liked the dark ominous hopelessness atmosphere of the movie.
Saying that Mia Goth appears in everything is a such gross exaggeration lol She was in X, Pearl, Infinity Pool, and soon to be Maxxxine. That's it. And she deserves all the praise she gets 💯
I absolutely hated "No One Will Save You". Didn't like "Infinity Pool" either. But "Thanksgiving" , "Evil Dead Rise" and " Talk to Me" were very good. Still have to check out "When Evil Lurks".
People who say "giant monster" movies like Godzilla and Kong aren't "horror" don't know horror. It's like saying Dracula and Frankenstein's monster aren't horror.

This is a great list. I wasn't going to see Godzilla- because its not my really cup of tea either- but I will now. I've been craving a good disaster movie, so this will fit the bill perfectly. My son's with his dad this Christmas, so I'm going to curl up with Candyland and Godzilla, the two on your list I missed. I trust your reviews. One other I saw recently that I enjoyed is A Creature Was Stirring. It looks like it wasn't super popular on IMDB. But I'm a fan. One thing I learned about writing horror- no matter what- someone isn't going to like it. Also- people don't consider Godzilla horror? Wow, I didn't know that. Weird.

Just finally saw When Evil Lurks. Very very good and pleasantly different. I had to laugh at those two stupid brothers, though. I also thought they all yelled a lot. Never took it down a notch between sentences. I loved it never the less and it will definitely stick with me.
Hi Ghost Pirate, What a great year for horror. And what a great list from my favorite RUclips horror channel. My three favorite horror films that I watched this year are Evil Dead Rise, When Evil Lurks, and Speak No Evil. I know Speak No Evil was from 2022 but I didn't watch it until 2023. All three of these movies stuck with me a few days after viewing. All three did something I rarely see in movies which is no one, not even children, were safe or saved from the evil. Thanks
Why do so many horror movie suck? What am I missing? I swear the only legitimate good horror movie anytime recent was Hereditary and Barbarian. And that’s cause it’s a good film first and a good horror movie second. I need some actually good movies. Is it just budget that movies most horror movies bad? There is so many awesome concepts out there that are not being touched on, why is it so hard to make a good horror movie?
I haven’t seen at least half the movies on this list, but I always knew When Evil Lurks is impossible to beat for #1. I can’t wait to see Godzilla -1 since those movies scared the hell out of me as a kid. If you have Apple TV, you gotta check out Monarch, with Kurt Russell in full Jack Burton/Mcready mode battling Godzilla and other cool monsters. It’s a lot of fun.
It’s close to me between the top 4 on my list. I even left off 3 I absolutely loved and wanted to put on but I gave them love on other list. Great year for horror again.
I think the recent Godzilla movies were awesome except for the Matthew Broderick one but I enjoyed them especially the Kong vs Godzilla movie and I definitely will check this one out big fan 😂🎉😢
I feel the same way about actors in horror movies! To me horror is the BEST genre out there! I love EVERY type of horror... suspense, sci fi, zombie, alien...all of them, the only ones I don't get into is if they have a lot of torture or rape. I just can't get into those kinds of movies! But I can never get enough of horror!!!

I’d argue rewatch Infinity Pool it’s a movie with dramatic layers that most of us didn’t get at first. The film is full of allegories and nuance

3 of my top 4 were on your list (Thanksgiving, Saw X, and Talk to Me). The only one you didn’t have on it was The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Finally got a Dracula movie where he’s a terrifying monster rather than just a man in a tuxedo. I also liked the dark ominous hopelessness atmosphere of the movie.

I agree, I saw ' where evil lurks' on big screen with no distraction. I don't think I would have liked it as much on my phone
Evil Dead Rise was good but it could have been gorier still need to watch the rest of these films

I absolutely hated "No One Will Save You". Didn't like "Infinity Pool" either. But "Thanksgiving" , "Evil Dead Rise" and " Talk to Me" were very good. Still have to check out "When Evil Lurks".

This is a great list. I wasn't going to see Godzilla- because its not my really cup of tea either- but I will now. I've been craving a good disaster movie, so this will fit the bill perfectly. My son's with his dad this Christmas, so I'm going to curl up with Candyland and Godzilla, the two on your list I missed. I trust your reviews.
One other I saw recently that I enjoyed is A Creature Was Stirring. It looks like it wasn't super popular on IMDB. But I'm a fan. One thing I learned about writing horror- no matter what- someone isn't going to like it.
Also- people don't consider Godzilla horror? Wow, I didn't know that. Weird.

Just finally saw When Evil Lurks. Very very good and pleasantly different. I had to laugh at those two stupid brothers, though. I also thought they all yelled a lot. Never took it down a notch between sentences. I loved it never the less and it will definitely stick with me.

What a great year for horror. And what a great list from my favorite RUclips horror channel. My three favorite horror films that I watched this year are Evil Dead Rise, When Evil Lurks, and Speak No Evil. I know Speak No Evil was from 2022 but I didn't watch it until 2023. All three of these movies stuck with me a few days after viewing. All three did something I rarely see in movies which is no one, not even children, were safe or saved from the evil.

Why do so many horror movie suck? What am I missing? I swear the only legitimate good horror movie anytime recent was Hereditary and Barbarian. And that’s cause it’s a good film first and a good horror movie second. I need some actually good movies. Is it just budget that movies most horror movies bad? There is so many awesome concepts out there that are not being touched on, why is it so hard to make a good horror movie?

If you have Apple TV, you gotta check out Monarch, with Kurt Russell in full Jack Burton/Mcready mode battling Godzilla and other cool monsters. It’s a lot of fun.

It’s close to me between the top 4 on my list. I even left off 3 I absolutely loved and wanted to put on but I gave them love on other list. Great year for horror again.

I think the recent Godzilla movies were awesome except for the Matthew Broderick one but I enjoyed them especially the Kong vs Godzilla movie and I definitely will check this one out big fan 😂🎉😢

I feel the same way about actors in horror movies! To me horror is the BEST genre out there! I love EVERY type of horror... suspense, sci fi, zombie, alien...all of them, the only ones I don't get into is if they have a lot of torture or rape. I just can't get into those kinds of movies! But I can never get enough of horror!!!
