Nice how to video Ray, I noticed in the background on the roof that your skylight was discolored. My Laredo did the same thing and then it started getting small cracks and eventually started leaking. I took my flange measurements and started looking for a replacement skylight. The best price I found was on eBay. Classic Customs, Elkhart, Indiana had the size I needed (19"x 22") in clear Lexan for only $37.00 USD with free shipping. I decided to purchase two of these at this price. I used a tube of Surebond SB140 to seal it up. It did the trick and saved me a lot of money... I just wanted to share this info with you, Sorry for getting off topic. 😎🇨🇦🇺🇸
Thanks for the tip. I'd like to get one we could close off when desired. My wife hates the light that streams in in the morning also it lets a lot of cold and heat in. I may even seal it off and install a light instead. Cheers Ray
They probably did a single receptacle on the microwave so it had a dedicated circuit for it. They probably did the same to the fridge, furnace and other devices in your RV. Nice clean install Ray.
Hey Ray, great video. You know, if you wanted it for boondocking you could run a power source to your battery bank. Then just series with your 12v and you'll have 24v DC ready to go.
Ray, I just dealt with the same issue in my RV, I replaced the old Incandescent lights in the bathroom (3 bulb Light bar) with an USB Led light bar operating at 5.4 volts. I purchased a small Voltage Converter (12v to 5.4v) and hard wired the new (USB) light into the RV's electrical system. You could do the same with a 12v to 24v voltage converter.
I wonder if the router is proprietary in some way or if you could upgrade that portion to a better router. I think a mesh wifi might work out better and cover the whole RV. also, if it were me I'd run a Ethernet "out" from the router to your laptop and run some tests to see if you gain anything.
It appears to have 6 antennas to it 3 for 2.4G and 3 for 5G. I think it shouldn't be an issue covering the RV as our little MiFi hotspot does it fine. If I get on a fast WiFi provider I'll do the laptop test. I think the big speed bottleneck is going to be from the WiFi source to the outside antenna, not so much after that.
Normally The guest network is also separating the devises on the network. So a person on the guest network can't gain access to your devices on the main network.
The reason why it's a 24 volt wall adapter is because the outside antenna is powered by a 48 volt source. POE (power over Ethernet) is 48 volts and is a standard. An internal voltage doubler will take the 24 to 48v easily.
Ray, it would be interesting to know if you have any RFI from the other devices (B/U camera, etc.), and if the Extender automatically changes channels depending on the environment. Good install!
Always enjoy your reviews - appreciate the real world testing that you do. Have you tired creating a personal hotspot with your T-Mobile phone connected to the We Boost and picking up the hotspot with the WiFi Ranger? Would be interested in seeing the results.
Thanks Ed.No, I haven't because I would just connect straight to the phone WiFi hotspot. I'm sure it would work, though. One thing I like about the unit so far is I can use it to connect to a paid WiFi or campground Wifi where they give you access to just one device through a code. Then I can share the connection with all our devices.
Hey Ray great video thank you - I will definitely look at this range extender for our RV when we are travelling around, it looks very durable. I am also looking for two other devices and your input would be helpful. At our current campground our site is sunken in a valley so we don't get any of the campground wifi and cellular service is poor. I got permission from the campground at the end of last season to look for a range extender that I can mount in the tree next to our site but I need to find one that can be installed 30ft up in the tree and then run the cable into our TT. If I could find a combination unit that does both wifi and cell that would be great but I think I am looking at two units. This unit looks like I would need to build a platform for it, I was hoping to find a pole style antenna. Love your channel! Please keep the videos coming!
Thanks Keith. I'd maybe take a look at the WiFi Ranger products, they have some different mounting options - www.wifiranger.com/ and for cellular check out my weBoost install and review - www.loveyourrv.com/weboost-drive-4g-x-rv-kit-review/ www.loveyourrv.com/installing-weboost-4g-x-rv-trucker/ Cheers Ray

Which RV park are you in while in southern CA? I'm in northern MN and always enjoy knowing the places people visit since I use to live in southern CA and hope someday to return in my own 35' Fleetwood Bounder RV.
We are at www.oasispalmsrvresort.com/ Near the north end of the Salton Sea. Spending a month at $600. Nice little park, good camp spots and very friendly folks, lots of fruit trees and a few palms, plus a pool and fish stocked pond. Negatives are traffic noise and for some it's a long drive to Palms Springs, 40 mins or so. I could care a less as I'm not into the city tourist stuff. We are having a great time. Cheers Ray
Very good. Sure looks like a nice place to park. My aunt and uncle use to live at Desert Shores on the Salton Sea back in the 1960s before the sea's decline (what a tragedy). Hoping they find a viable solution to maintain the sea in good condition. Sub. here and always watch your videos and enjoy them. Happy camping. Tom
I've driven through that community, looks like it was an awesome place back in the day. We still love the Salton Sea for the bird watching, tons of pelicans in the winter. Fun to watch. We are headed over to the state rec area next. Thanks for the sub!
Will it extend your phone WiFi? what I mean is you when your phone has only a few barres, then when you connect to a booster you have full range of your phone.
Ray we love your videos. I followed all the steps to connection and had great success. I do have a question: When we change location, on that first screen for 10.11.12.1 do I then enter my id and password or stay on admin and the supplied password.? Rookie question I know, but it works so well I don't want to mess it up. Thanks for your help. See ya down the road.
The first screen is to log into the Winegard control panel. You should use admin plus the password. The unit comes with a default factory set password. For security, you should change it to your own.
Nicely done. It's a little curious to me that during your setup, your laptop received more WiFi networks than the extender did. I'll be really interested to see your report on how well it performs. I'm about to install a homebrew system, but really like the clean install of the Winegard (particularly how it's securely attached to the roof), so maybe I'll wait before doing my own. Seems like they dropped the ball on the power requirements--an RV product that's not powered by 12V?
Yes, my laptop will be a good test. It's a new Dell 17" and has great WiFi reception, beats out my wife's 21" iMac desktop every time when signals get weak. Some of those networks may have been in memory, I've noticed it takes a while to clear sometimes. We had a bunch of rigs move out a few hours beforehand.
lonekazoo ...That system....in just seeing the exturnal tri antennas are still low gain antennas.... its better Simply...to get a High gain Panel antenna or yagi.. or if you're good at building there are Great home brew High gain antennas that Really work Great !! use shortest possible very low loss feedline...get an high quality antenna pre-amp for 2.4 and or 5 and or 5.8 Ghz...
The other one is for cellular signals and so far has worked very well. - Here is my review - www.loveyourrv.com/weboost-drive-4g-x-rv-kit-review/ I'm looking forward to testing it out some more when we get to boondocking come the new year.
Electrical sockets that have a microwave plugged in are very noisy electronically. causes a lot of interference with any other device plugged into the same circuit.
Thanks, we don't use the microwave that much so won't really be a problem but I've decided to go with a 12 - 24 volts DC to DC converter so I can run the ConnecT off my RV batteries. Cheers Ray
In my book making it require a 24 volt power supply adapter was a big mistake. Forcing me to use an inverter so I can power it as opposed to wiring it directly to the 12 vdc bank tells me it was not designed for any mobil users. I would never consider installing that in my RV. If they sent that to me, as soon as saw that issue, I would have boxed it up and sent it back and got that thing out of my life. They definitely dropped the ball there for mobile users. It's not like units actually designed for 12 volts don't exist in the market. But for free you may like it. For myself I want one that requires 12 vdc, period. Thanks for the heads up, I won't be getting that unit. Thanks Ray, cheers.
Yes, definitely a con for dry campers. The Winegard antenna amps run on 12 volts. I'll enquire and see if I can get an answer to their reasoning to include in my review.
Sure, if you can ship to Canada. I'll be back home in May and can do a comparison of the two systems. Are you really from WifiRanger, though? Your YT channel is blank with 0 subs?
Perfect, we do indeed ship to Canada! Yes, we're really from WiFiRanger, but was logged into the wrong account. You can check our channel out under this profile. When you're ready for a demo unit, just email us at questions@wifiranger.com and let them know that Evan contacted you about reviewing the product.
Thanks, not yet. I'll have to do some tests. There isn't much info on the product out there that I can find, since it's just been released in late October.
It would work I'm sure but it is designed I image for the smaller space of an RV. There likely are better alternatives out there for the larger space of a home.
As always, great install and explanation. I can sure understand why the manufacturers are always sending you stuff. In your research have you noticed that all extenders are as expensive as this one? Or is this just a real good unit? Also have you ever had to take any of that Enternabond tape off? It goes so well I would think that would be a real drag.
Thanks, price is in the top end of RV Wifi extenders like a WiFI Ranger but it does have some of the latest technology and designed and built in the USA. It's a brand new product from Winegard. Hopefully, it will work as good as the price tag, time will tell. Previously I had a $200 dollar unit so will be able to compare a bit. Cobbling your own system together something definitely is cheaper but one needs a bit of technical prowess, I think in this package they are looking at making unit simple to install and operate. If the Eternabond needs to be removed to change something it can be cut and new stuff put on top, it sticks to itself or with a heat gun or hair dryer it can be peeled off. www.eternabond.com/articles.asp?id=165
Like it being built in the US for obvious reasons. Not going to say that price is no object but if it works good I won't mind the price, toooo much. I do like the smaller antennas. Thanks for the link and the education. I am Grateful. Slim
Great video, I am a techie and your approach is the only way to make good decisions when spending those hard earned $s. BTW, what software are you using to capture your computer screen to video?
Pretty sure that Ethernet port has to face the back of your rig is because it isn't water tight, if it faced forward a good rain with wind resistance would probably get things wet inside - like in this video. ruclips.net/video/PqMTpDJpU6s/видео.html
I don't understand why these manufacturers insist on producing products at these various (non-standard) voltages. I just purchased a rechargeable (CAT brand) LED light that uses a 4.2 volt charger with a 120 volt plug. It would have been better to use Standardized 5.4 volt USB charge voltage which would allow me to use my truck USB adapter or my USB Battery Pack, or the various 120v USB chargers I have all over the house to charge the light instead of limiting it to only 120 Volt charging !!! Here is the Kicker... This LED light has a USB port on it so the battery can be used as a USB (5.4 volt) power source !!! Think about it, the 5.4 volt circuitry is already in the device, why not use it for charging as well !!!! Also, Wingard is aiming at the RV market, THEY SHOULD KNOW THAT Standard 12 Volts is always available in every RV !!!! 120 Volts is NOT Always available in a RV !!!
the 5 Ghz is NOT Faster then 2.4 Ghz.. 5 Ghz ENABLES Greater bandwidth..Thus 5 Ghz Enables Better Video confrencing and video downloading youtube Etc.. Yes 5 Ghz is Shortee range...but thats why you use a high gain antenna and or an amp/extender.. its Easily possible to Grab a WiFi signal in urban areas well over a mile at times 10 miles and more in rural areas (with right conditions and use of superior anteena..feedline and amp !! All these same Principals hold True with cel phones as well (pay close attention to the frequency you want better reception from and then build accordenly)
Yes, I believe that's what I mean faster as in max bits per second as stated in the user manual specs Wireless Speed2.4GHz: 450Mbps (Rx), 450Mbps (Tx)5GHz: 1300Mbps (Rx), 1300Mbps (Tx)
way too bulky , inside unit and outside unit, and 24 v dc its a complete nonsense, a 12 v dc direct connect to battery would make sound better. anyway way too large plastic box.
Yeah, there really isn't much inside going by the weight, maybe it's an antenna array. I've added a 12 volt to 24 volt DC to DC converter. I have to say the unit is pretty stable. I've been using it for 4 1/2 months straight at an RV park and haven't had to reboot it once except for a firmware upgrade. It's been rock solid in its operation. Cheers Ray
Looking forward to full review of pulling in weaker signals and speed test comparisons.
Nice how to video Ray, I noticed in the background on the roof that your skylight was discolored. My Laredo did the same thing and then it started getting small cracks and eventually started leaking. Angie sure looked exited about the extender.
Hey Ray, great video. You know, if you wanted it for boondocking you could run a power source to your battery bank. Then just series with your 12v and you'll have 24v DC ready to go.
Thanks, I was thinking of installing a 12-volt power socket next to it and using a very small inverter, some power losses but shouldn't be too bad.

Good idea, something like this should do the trick I'd think - amzn.to/2ilkFQW
That unit would definitely do the trick!
It's so nice to hear someone pronounce "roof" correctly lol I'm very interested in how this works for you.
I pronounce lots of words wrong but usually get that one right. :)
Love Your RV I was just having fun with those who call a roof a "ruff"
Ya, I know. I always razz my US buddies about that one.
Pronounces ethernet wrong though. Should be a hard E like 'enough'. For the record I liked the video anyway.
Terry Pullen Yup, I've always said it that way and I say enough with a weak e too. Thanks!
Very good install. You ready do neat work that looks good. We be interesting on the follow up to see how it performs vs the regular laptop wifi.
Thank you Charles. :)
Charles Greene its a med range product at Best..
there are Far better antennas and systems on the market..
especially if you build-design your own !!
thanks Ray...I have watched this video twice probably will go for a third time once I save the money to buy the unit.
great video once again
Thanks for the reviews. Merry Christmas. Hope you guys have a wonderful holiday.

WIRE Pointed to the back to keep out the water as you drive down the road? Great video, thanks
I guess that's what it is, but you would think then a bad storm would drive water in there. I'm going to add some sealant to be sure. Cheers, Ray
Normally The guest network is also separating the devises on the network. So a person on the guest network can't gain access to your devices on the main network.

very good video. I like to see teaching videos like this.
Thanks!
Ray, it would be interesting to know if you have any RFI from the other devices (B/U camera, etc.), and if the Extender automatically changes channels depending on the environment. Good install!
I know it has channel adjustment in the admin area. It's nice that it can use the 5 GHz band for it's LAN if 2.4 GHz band gets too crowded.
Hey Ray,
It appears that you were camping in the community of Oasis/Thermal, CA. I hope you enjoy it!
R.
Yes, nice RV park, spent a month and then we camped a spell at the Salton Sea Rec Area.
Great....! Next time you are in the area hit-me-up and I will treat you guys a wold famous Date Shake... Take Care...!
Nice job,Thanks! we need one before leaving in the spring! (A little "pricey,though)"...

Acetone will clean well but tends to dry out the rubber...not recommended. Mineral spirits is milder and cleans pretty well.
Acetone gets an A - Excellent on the chemical compatibility chart with EDPM rubber whereas Mineral Spirits get a D - Severe Effect. www.fbs-online.com/Centre/Prod/EPDM-chem-com-res.htm Having said that I've used mineral spirits in the past with no ill effect. I apply it to a rag in small quantity then wipe, then wash it off. The theory is Mineral Spirits are a petroleum distillate and can damage the rubber. Gaetan Giroux .... That's a Different story...
different frequencys..different feedline..antennas..amp etc !!
Bob Muller Thanks!
Anytime... Happy New Years
How goes this compare to the weboost you tested, that was a cell booster not a wifi booster right
The weBoost is for cell signals, not WiFi so it's apples and oranges.
its a clean setup. At 550.00 its a little higher price than I thought it might be
Does seem on the high side to me as well. Maybe because it's designed and built in the US.
still too much cash

WiFiRanger Thank you for that information.
Angie is AWESOME!!!
Does the software support Macintosh system or just window computers?
Yup, it will work fine with Mac
Great install! I love your channel. Do you know the range of the antennas? Merry Christmas! Thanks for letting us come along.
Thanks, not yet. I'll have to do some tests. There isn't much info on the product out there that I can find, since it's just been released in late October.
can it work at my home or not can you tell me please
It would work I'm sure but it is designed I image for the smaller space of an RV. There likely are better alternatives out there for the larger space of a home.
The port has to face the back so when your going down the road rain water doesn't get forced past the cover
Makes sense but I wonder then about storms. We get some heavy rain and wind where I'm from.
True, I'm sure it's fairly weather tight but best to minimize the risk.
As always, great install and explanation. I can sure understand why the manufacturers are always sending you stuff. In your research have you noticed that all extenders are as expensive as this one? Angie could barely contain her excitement.
Pretty sure that Ethernet port has to face the back of your rig is because it isn't water tight, if it faced forward a good rain with wind resistance would probably get things wet inside - like in this video. ruclips.net/video/PqMTpDJpU6s/видео.html
That doesn't give me much hope then since where I'm from we get storms with heavy wind and rain from all directions. I better seal it up.
good idea!
+Good how to video Ray.
big mistake on that 24 v indeeed..
Yeah, for sure. I was able to add a DC to DC converter to solve the problem - www.loveyourrv.com/boondocking-mod-dc-to-dc-converter/
Yes 5 Ghz is Shortee range...but thats why you use a high gain antenna and or an amp/extender..
its Easily possible to Grab a WiFi signal in urban areas well over a mile
at times 10 miles and more in rural areas (with right conditions and use of superior anteena..feedline and amp !!
All these same Principals hold True with cel phones as well
(pay close attention to the frequency you want better reception from and then build accordenly)
Yes, I believe that's what I mean faster as in max bits per second as stated in the user manual specs
Wireless Speed2.4GHz: 450Mbps (Rx), 450Mbps (Tx)5GHz: 1300Mbps (Rx), 1300Mbps (Tx)
I found it to be a little $$$$
Definitely, I hope to find it's performance warrants it.
I can't find any specs on it other than what's published at the bottom of this page - www.winegard.com/connect
They also appear to be designed and built in the USA

way too bulky , inside unit and outside unit, and 24 v dc its a complete nonsense, a 12 v dc direct connect to battery would make sound better.
anyway way too large plastic box.
Cheers Ray
