Eternabond is good stuff. You could make the taping even stronger by also using an application of Very High Bond (VHB) tape on the underside of the structure before placing it on the roof. VHB is available from 3M.
Thanks for the video, new to RV life and looking to mount a Starlink without drilling holes I to the roof. As well as wanting to install a Wyze Flood light Cam Pro with a circular junction box that is powered by extension cord coming out of junction box, looking for ideas to mount it without screws. This is a great start, thank you for the great video.
I followed your lead, Brian, but NO WAY I could make mine look as neat as yours! My first time with Eternabond - sticky stuff! I used some VHB tape under the mount, and I am sure it will stay in place...Thanks!
+RV Habit Absolutely. I've already gone through a 50 foot roll. I need to order another one. I also have a roll of double sided Eternabond that I'll be using for an upcoming project.
The practical road test is not after install. It's at least 3 years later (12 seasons cycled through outdoors, preferably somewhere with freeze / thaw cycles followed by intense heat), and then you're doing 70, outside air temperature is over 100 F, and debris kicked up by a semi you just passed has gotten stuck around the antenna, inadvertently increasing the drag forces at the base of it by two or three times (non-linear as it spins and jerks in the wind), and since you don't realize this has happened, you keep driving at highway speeds for another 200+ miles. If it's all still holding without any issue after that, it's a good install. :-)
Awesome video. I do live broadcasts and want to upload videos on the road during a tour and need to be able to do so effectively without having to change my route. Time is of the essence. Quick question: How did you run the wires into the living space?
Like the concept. Over time leading edges of tape may lift due to wind pressure. I would add another (3rd) strip of the tape at the leading end and in the position of the first strip so that leading seam is covered. I would also apply sealant along the leading edge of tape where it is in contact with the roof. And also along the edging upwind on the back end of the platform....just to err on the side of caution to prevent debris from blowing into the leading edges of tape and eventually lifting them.
Very cool setup! It would be great to have a longer pole that could also fold down so if the service is bad when camping it could get another 8 feet in the air or so
Nice job on the mount, Brian. Very elegant. We were going to mention that we now know what that plaid flash was that we saw across the Strait of Juan de Fuca from up here on Vancouver Island, but we see someone has beaten us to that reference! Next time you drive that fast, make sure you jam the radar first. Raspberry, of course. May the Schwartz be with you!
I dont mean to be so offtopic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account..? I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any assistance you can offer me!
@Hunter Abdiel Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Tito, this is an old video that will continue to be useful as far as I can see into the future. Have you put much thought into the best way to manage the cabling? I have a Northern Lite camper that is completely fiber glass and has a clam shell design that could never leak. I think I'm going to have to drill a hole. Just no way around it............................. Never mind, I just found your video "Cable Access Hole Through RV Roof // How To // Solar". That looks like a great solution.
There art two adhesive materials you could have used to attach the base to your roof. First there is a double stick version of EternaBond tape in varying widths and 30 to 60 mil thicknesses you could use and then there is SIKA Sikaflex-252 White Polyurethane Adhesive 10.1 fl. oz. Cartridge That I would recommend
Hi. I just found your channel while looking for help in fixing my Winegard antenna problem. Through extensive testing and investigation I found my cable from the signal box through the cabinets and up through the roof has failed probably due to its 20 year existence. There is very little left coming out of the roof to work with. Do you have any suggestions for replacing/threading a new cable through?
Mate, I like you because now I know I am not the only guy who buys components (like the marine mount) for a project only to discover that it is not quite fit for the design purpose or I change my mind and find a better one, and then the thing I bought is just put in a box with all the other stuff I decided not to use or that doesn't fit [perfectly] with the next project. The only drawback with this mindset is you waste shitloads of money: Yeah, tell me about that!
Hi Brian, I just want to check with you to see how is your antenna holding up. Is it still standing strong with the tapes? I really want to install one like yours. I hate drilling holes on the roof.
Tito, I am about to assemble antenna on long pvc pole with swivel marine VHF antenna base as you demonstrated. Can you tell me what size threaded adapter you used to connect/screw to the VHF antennas threaded base (mine is on order waiting shipment but want to buy the rest of the stuff ahead of time)?I assume the female end of the adapter (smooth side) is 1” but can you tell me about the size needed for the VHF swivel base? Thanks
You're effectively mounting to the rubber or tpo roof material of the rv. Any concerns about de-laminating the roof material? Good idea and hopefully it's a long term solution alternative to drilling into the roof.
Excellent video - as usual!!! Just within the last few days, I learned of the existence of EternaBond tape, so was very interested in your experiment, which worked wonderfully. That is what I'll do! Thank you for your videos!
+Cathryn Wagner Yes I've certainly come to love the Eternabond. I always have it around now and use it instead of Dicor in many cases. My 50 ft roll is gone and now I need another :)
Loved the video. I am about to purchase a DriveX RV booster and although I intend on using the ladder mount, this interested me. I do have a couple questions though... How did you run the wire down through the sewer exaust tube area? I have replaced those so I know there is extra usually. Did you just drill a hole, drop the cable then use dicor? and 2. MORE Important... without drilling holes in the roof, what did you use to hold the cables and wires from the panels and antennas over to the location to enter the RV? I am also fixing to mount a satellite dish on the roof and will have to run the cable quite a distance on top of the unit to where I can bring it down or into the unit. I was going to use wire ties with a screw mount .. actually make a hole for the screw and then use Dicor but looking for a better idea. THANKS... and thanks for the Weboost review... finished making my mind on that piece of equipment. :)
That was a good idea mounting the antenna. Perhaps an idea to improve it would be to add a electric linear actuator to lower and raise the antenna from within the coach. No need to climb onto the rooftop.
I found this video and am looking to do something just like this with the antenna for my internet system. I'm curious, why did you add the additional plywood base? Was that to provide something to screw the antenna down to? I mention that, because are you not concerned with water seepage under the tape and rotting the wood? I did review your solar panel video where after a period of time you were getting water underneath the edges of the Eternabond tape. That may not impact a solar panel, but was concerned about water like that getting to a wood base. Any concerns in that area? I have a metal plate that I'm going to use - Stainless Steel 400 series so it's magnetic and I'm going to paint it, but was just wondering if I should put wood underneath it first.
I also like his idea but have a problem with the wood. Moisture is the enemy, wood is a sponge. Idea: you can get cheap plastic kitchen cutting boards that size. They'd probably be workable in a table saw and you can screw the mount to that instead of the wood. I'm thinking I'll also completely fill the space under the board with epoxy, silicone, lap sealant... something. If you leave a void there, even a small one, water will get in, even if it's from condensation out of the air. Thoughts?
Nice Anchor it down with stainless steel cable. Just in case water gets under. It will not fly off your roof into someone windshield behind you. Thanks for your videos.
Thanks best video i have seen. Mine was mounted for me and its been banging away in the storm we had last night TV works fine but i do not want it to suddenly see it gone! I am stationary in a USA Cottage IMPORTED TO NEW ZEALAND THE ANTENNA IS A WINDGARD BUT COULD BE MOUNTED LIKE YOURS AND IT STAYS UPRIGHT ALL THE TIME. i THINK IT IS SCREWED IN AND THE BOLTS ARE LOOSE HOW OR WHO CAN I GET TO FIX AS IM A WOMAN ON MY OWN
Hi, I like your setup using the Marine antenna mount and I like the idea of using the extension 2 1/2 foot piece of PVC when you want extra height. You cut out a section of the Tee and put two bolts through to mount the Weboost bracket which I am trying to understand why that was necessary. I am going to make both mounts but eliminate the slits in the Tee. I intend on screwing the Marine Mount right to the fiberglass roof of mine and use dicor to cover over the base to prevent any leaks. I am the going to run the cable down to the front of my coach and drill a hole through the roof and into a cabinet over the passenger seat where I have a 110volt outlet. To hide and protect the cable on the roof, I intend on using the eterabond tape all the way to the hole I drilled. I will use Dicor again to seal the hole. I may use plastic channel with 3M tape if I don't use the Tape. In any case both would secure the cable. My connections will all be in the cabinet over the passenger seat. I will see where the best place for the desk top unit later. Thanks for the idea.
hi my sat dish wobbles in the wind it is strong high winds today it will pass later today but the base thats attached to the roof gives me a thump noise is there anything i can do to stop this. The manufacturer tells me that they have to have wobble room whatever that is hope you can tell me thanks
After watching the video many months ago while looking for a RV, had a chance to put it to use by doing two of the mounts. Mounted a WeBoost, VHF/UHF Mag Mount and a CB Mag Mount. All went together well by following the video and after two months of no issues while on the road, have to say that it was a great success...many thanks Brian !
Really nice job, lovely and neat - just what I was looking for as I'm looking to do the same on a caravan Only query - if your magnets stick to it, it isn't stainless steel - chrome plated perhaps, but it can't be stainless
I am removing the Stock Antenna from our Coach to make room for more Solar Panels. I have been looking for a way to mount a new Antenna. This is perfect, Thanks
I am going to use the same mount and was wondering if you think it may be better to mount it the opposite way so that if by chance it gets hit by a low limb it would simply collapse and not break the antenna or the mount? It appears from you video it only collapses one way. Would it hold up to wind if it were reversed is also my concern.
Don't know as much about ground plane antennas as I should, but doesn't the antenna with the weBoost specify that it includes an internal ground plane? Or, more precisely, that a ground plane is not needed?
nice job brian ....very thoughtful but i was thinking about putting my antenna in a stainless steel small table scissor lift to be able to adjust the height whenever i want ... so what do you think ? .. is it gonna work ?
Thanks for the link to this antenna mount. I was thinking you would include the wiring of the boost in one of you videos but couldn’t find one? Also I thought you set this anttena up to fold down while driving, guess this is the upright position just for a test? I know this was years back hope all still relative today. 2020 😊
Great job! Only thing I would do different is add some of the doublesided tape from the same company and then go around the outside. It won't ever come off either way though I just like to go way overkill.
A little off subject but I watched your video on attaching flexible solar panels using eternabond tape. Thinking of doing the same thing. How is that install holding up for your? Would you recommend it as a mounting method for flexible solar panels?
Enjoy your vids, easy understanding for us with written instruction phobia. Your SS piece must have had a high Ferris metal count for those magnets to work at all. Just saying
If you were never going to need or want to remove it for any reason, I'd put down a good amount of something like liquid nails and then put on the other stuff. But that don't seem to move at all up there. And I'm sure as the hot sun beats down on it, it's only going to cause it to bound all the more...
I liked your mounting system but I have a question. Did you actually mean "stainless steel"? Normally a magnet won't stick to stainless steel. Could it be just normal steel? Thanks
Another question. Do you know anything about whether I can use an omni directional antenna with a weboost Connect RV 65 unit? I know they say it's for a parked RV but I would think that is because of the pole that comes with the unit. I want to be able to switch between a Yagi and omni directional antenna depending on conditions. Thanks
Yes you can. That's what I do. It works very well actually. I use my connect 65 with this omni antenna from the 4gx RV. The 65 is sold as a stationary unit because the dB boost of the amplifier.ia above 50 (max for mobile).
Great video! Thanks for doing it. What was your reason for using the stainless steel piece? Could you not have done it with just the plywood? I have this project coming up and am wondering if I can forego having to hunt down a piece of sheet metal with wood filler.
+Niall O'Malley First of all I like magnets, I also thought screwing through metal and wood would have more strength long term. Also, the only reason I needed the filler piece of wood was because of how my metal piece was shaped. I would have glued and screwed on a piece of sheet metal otherwise.
Do you leave the cables loose on the top of the rv? I want to run a cable from an omni directional antennae the same as the video into one of the upper compartments in the coach. Should the cable be taped down or otherwise held in place?
+Ivan Heit Yes you should secure the cable using some kind of anchor. You could also use Eternabond tape to tape it down bit that will make it more permanent. I have mine zip tied to my existing solar cable which is already anchored to the roof.
Terrific video Brian! With less than a year until my wife retires, we are starting to get serious about looking for an RV. We've pretty well convinced ourselves that a small Class C would be a good size for us. From all the videos I've watched, I'm real concerned about finding a used on with a roof that doesn't (or hasn't) leaked. Can you tell me how much time you spend maintaining the roof on your rig? Anything in particular that we should watch out for in our search? Thanks!
Did you drill a hole by the vent or put it underneath the plate or what? Just wondering about a way to get a wire like that into the rig without drilling a hole or going through an open window:)
Have an aerial antenna that I would like to mount to the roof of our really old camper w tin roof can't find anything that will fold down during travel and a quick flip up once we get to camp at least not on my slim budget... any ideas?
Great video! I watched it a few times to get the details of the folding mount attachment. I’m mounting my Weboost trucker antenna , with three extensions on the back of my travel trailer. So, when traveling, I can fold it down along the back. One problem I ran into was the pipe thread of the PVC Tee. The mount is 1” , 14 TPI non-tapered. I ordered a 1” PVC Tee which which looks about 1/3” too big. An NPT table lists 1” NPT with an 11 or so TPI? I’m confused. What thread and pipe standard is the Tee that you used that so easily spun onto the folding mount?
@@MrEroh Yes, I bought a PVC 1” threaded coupling to screw on the threads of Wilson antenna mount. Used it just to cover the antenna mount threads. I ended up screwing a 3/8 inch threaded insert into the hole in the Wilson mount and screwed the standard antenna thread into that. Mounted on the upper rear of the trailer above the camera. This way I can put it up and down (sideways) with a small step ladder.
I think I would put a little leash on it so if/when it does come off it would end up in someone's front window that is driving behind you. You just never know if it might loosen up in a few years. Better to be safe than sorry. Speaking from the potential driver behind you. 73
Tito do you have a Nav system in your RV, if so where is your antenna. I am installing a new radio with NAV and have seen all kinds of conflicting advice on antenna placement.
Yes you could if it's in decent shape. I've tested the already installed tv antenna cable with mine and it works fine. They do include a high quality coax cable in the package too.
That's a great idea, well done. Thanks for sharing this video. By the way, how do you like your flexible glued solar panel? What brand are they? Thanks again.
Love your videos.... and not to be safety police, but you're using your tablesaw backwards :). If you put the work between the fence and the blade (and push on the work, not on the waste) it will be a lot safer and you'll get better cuts too. I hope that helps!
Brian, like you, I am not a fan of screwing holes in the roof of my rig. I'm toying around with the idea of mounting my rigid solar panels 'feet" down with the super 3M double sided adhesive tape, then with Eternabond over the tops of the mounts. I'm a tiny bit apprehensive and would appreciate your thoughts...think it will work? I'm impressed with your results using Eternabond, thanks for sharing.
Take a look at channel "businessjonty". He has three videos that show you exactly how to do that and all of the materials and bonding adhesive that you can use.
8:00 mark exactly - best DIY performance testing I have ever seen on RUclips. I have seen a lot. I subbed for this. YES!
:)
Eternabond is good stuff. You could make the taping even stronger by also using an application of Very High Bond (VHB) tape on the underside of the structure before placing it on the roof. VHB is available from 3M.
I just built this almost exactly as you outlined in the video for my RV cell booster install. Works like a charm. Thanks for the idea and directions.
Glad to hear it. Mine is still holding on like new also. Thanks for the follow up!
Nice install!! Could you do a follow up showing the routing of the cables and other components. Thanks
I was looking for the same thing. No drill mount may make cable routing difficult.
Great mount! I see many applications for RV amateur radio antennas.
I followed your lead, Brian, but NO WAY I could make mine look as neat as yours! My first time with Eternabond - sticky stuff! I used some VHB tape under the mount, and I am sure it will stay in place...Thanks!
Very ingenious. Eternbond tape is a RV'ers best friend and a must for the tool kit. Great video Brian!
+RV Habit Absolutely. I've already gone through a 50 foot roll. I need to order another one. I also have a roll of double sided Eternabond that I'll be using for an upcoming project.
Great video. Eternabond will stick the gates of hell together!! Amazing stuff.
I actually ran out. Now I need more.
Nice, do you have a video of how you ran your cables inside? I want to do this with a Mimo (2 cable) antenna as well
Just this one ruclips.net/video/aB8ic6x9DAM/видео.html You can also run them down next to your tank vents or down the fridge vent if you have one.
It's still holding strong just like when it was installed. Success!!

+Cathryn Wagner Yes I've certainly come to love the Eternabond. I always have it around now and use it instead of Dicor in many cases. My 50 ft roll is gone and now I need another :)
Sounds like the RV version of Duck Tape! lol!
Thanks, I was jst looking at the some marine mount wondering how to make it work..
Can you direct me to your video re the wiring of the booster to inside from the roof? Thanks
Eternabond is good stuff. You can always 'stick with it' for repairs and projects like this.
Great video and very creative. Just might do the same thing on my RV :) thanks for sharing.
Thanks. Good luck with the project.

I'm surprised Brian didn't explain this. It's great that he mounted without drilling, but the cable has got to get inside the rig somehow.
Enjoyed your install. What TV antenna did you use?
How did you attached the cable on top of the roof to the TV with out drilling hole in roof ?
Good ideas, keep up with the good RV innovations. Happy RVing.!
Tito.....Why did you go with the plastic marine mount over the stainless steel mount? Thans for the great idea. And How is it holding up today?
I had one already and it was light weight. I'm sure it's fine but we sold that RV a couple years ago.
Great video! That tape really does work. I just used some on my roof to patch a leak.
Thank you for this video, I've been waiting to see how you mounted the antenna mount. You came up with a great solution. Good job !!!

It seems all rv owners have a little mad scientist in them. Luv your video's
thanks for this! Any idea how to add an antenna to an aframe pop up? Sounds like we need to attach some kind of external pole???
Hi, very good video and ideas. Just for the future, how easy would it be to remove without damage?

Some plywood works outside, for a while. Marine ply. Regular ply will delaminate in the sun and rain.
Really nice job, lovely and neat - just what I was looking for as I'm looking to do the same on a caravan
Only query - if your magnets stick to it, it isn't stainless steel - chrome plated perhaps, but it can't be stainless
Thanks. You're right. I haven't used any magnets with it anyway.
Found your other Videos, Thanks
Now you need to do a video on how you mounted the camera to the roof !!
+raybbj Go check out my Instagram. Short answer...Velcro + GoPro
I am removing the Stock Antenna from our Coach to make room for more Solar Panels. I have been looking for a way to mount a new Antenna. This is perfect, Thanks
+RJ's adventures Awesome. Glad to help.
Thanks for the ratcheting antenna mount idea!
Very cool installation. Thanks for sharing it. Keep on, keepin on.
Another great video, keep them coming.
+Mr Rocker Glad yo u liked it!
Either direction would work fine. I think I can collapse it in either direction.
Great DIY and I like the humor, great start to my day! See you no the road.
Sure Man...Glad you enjoyed it!
Don't know as much about ground plane antennas as I should, but doesn't the antenna with the weBoost specify that it includes an internal ground plane? Or, more precisely, that a ground plane is not needed?
I am building a mast with an actuator for my directional wifi antenna... actuator maybe ;) ???
Great video. Why did you get rid of your fifthwheel that you put so much work into?
Oops. You must be thinking of Ray with LoveYourRV.
nice job brian ....very thoughtful
but i was thinking about putting my antenna in a stainless steel small table scissor lift to be able to adjust the height whenever i want ... so what do you think ? .. is it gonna work ?
Thanks for the link to this antenna mount. I was thinking you would include the wiring of the boost in one of you videos but couldn’t find one? Also I thought you set this anttena up to fold down while driving, guess this is the upright position just for a test? I know this was years back hope all still relative today. 2020 😊
I've left the antenna up all the time while driving. No problems. Of course, you could lower it if you wanted especially if you had a taller antenna.
Great job! Only thing I would do different is add some of the doublesided tape from the same company and then go around the outside. It won't ever come off either way though I just like to go way overkill.
Great ENGENUITY ! and excellent Video ....Thanks !
How about a tether line, just in case. I use a tether line on my tow mirrors, just in case the straps fail.
+Abunai One Certainly an option if you're concerned about it holding. Then again the antenna is connected to a cable.
A little off subject but I watched your video on attaching flexible solar panels using eternabond tape. Thinking of doing the same thing. How is that install holding up for your? Would you recommend it as a mounting method for flexible solar panels?
Great Video, Maybe you made a previous video, were your solar panels also mounted with eternabond ?
william flowers Yes I did. Check it out a few videos back.
Enjoy your vids, easy understanding for us with written instruction phobia. Your SS piece must have had a high Ferris metal count for those magnets to work at all. Just saying
Won't putting something down on your rubber room with that tape cause the rubber to lift from the roof in a high stress environment?
If you were never going to need or want to remove it for any reason, I'd put down a good amount of something like liquid nails and then put on the other stuff. But that don't seem to move at all up there. And I'm sure as the hot sun beats down on it, it's only going to cause it to bound all the more...
I liked your mounting system but I have a question. Did you actually mean "stainless steel"? Normally a magnet won't stick to stainless steel. Could it be just normal steel? Thanks
Perhaps. It might just be chrome plated steel instead.
Very inventive indeed. Good Job!!
+Idaho Rider Thanks!
Always good and Informative videos Tito.. But you didn't say what the antenna was for, or maybe I misses that part. Once again thanks ...
Magnets don't stick to stainless steel :-)
Do you leave the cables loose on the top of the rv? I want to run a cable from an omni directional antennae the same as the video into one of the upper compartments in the coach. Should the cable be taped down or otherwise held in place?
+Ivan Heit Yes you should secure the cable using some kind of anchor. You could also use Eternabond tape to tape it down bit that will make it more permanent. I have mine zip tied to my existing solar cable which is already anchored to the roof.
tip, water proof your cable connection. prevent water getting in to the coax, use vulcanisation tape for that.
Great test sequence!
+Clifford Morrell Thanks! Glad you enjoyed that.
Thanks!
How did you run the cable
I saw cars passing you when you were going over 120 MPH. You should have put down some caulking where the mount meets the roof.
Yeah. Those cars were going about 130 :)
very clean setup. Good work
+64maxpower Thanks!
Probably a silly question but where and how does the antenna wire get inside the rig to connect to the booster?
+RV Legal Eagles & Paws I ran it down next to a nearby vent. I gave a glimpse of it in the previous video.
Did you drill a hole by the vent or put it underneath the plate or what? Just wondering about a way to get a wire like that into the rig without drilling a hole or going through an open window:)
Have an aerial antenna that I would like to mount to the roof of our really old camper w tin roof can't find anything that will fold down during travel and a quick flip up once we get to camp at least not on my slim budget... any ideas?
Does it still have a TV antenna?
@@RVwithTito here is a photo of what I have
Best glue I ever found for all applications is Construction Adhesive PL Premium
I am researching how to mount the exact same setup. Did you figure out the threads?
my only issue is that pvc fitting get brittle with long term UV exposure.
Ed Ginsberg I agree with you on that. It needs to be painted to help protect it from UV rays.
thanks, I'll buy one tomorrow while they're on sale
Tito do you have a Nav system in your RV, if so where is your antenna. I am installing a new radio with NAV and have seen all kinds of conflicting advice on antenna placement.
I have a Garmin GPS that sits on my dashboard and works just fine. No extra antenna.
RVwithTito great I have a class C and was concerned about the roof extension blocking the signal. BTW , great videos.
You should patent and sell this. It would be great for attaching a solar tower antenna to a car and rv
Does the antenna bounce on the roof when folded down? Any damage to the antenna? Thx
No. It seems to have survived just fine.
Isn't it necessary to ground the grounding plate to the frame of the RV?
Thinking about getting a Wiboost cell booster could I connect to the RV tv antenna coax? Any help is appreciated
Yes you could if it's in decent shape. I've tested the already installed tv antenna cable with mine and it works fine. They do include a high quality coax cable in the package too.
RV with Tito DIY thank you
That's a great idea, well done. Thanks for sharing this video. By the way, how do you like your flexible glued solar panel? What brand are they? Thanks again.
Those long ones are from Unisolar who has gone out of business. Good panels though.
just interested to know what brand the Antenna is
That antenna was part of a WeBoost RV cell phone booster kit. rvwithtito.com/weboost
Love your videos.... and not to be safety police, but you're using your tablesaw backwards :). If you put the work between the fence and the blade (and push on the work, not on the waste) it will be a lot safer and you'll get better cuts too. I hope that helps!
magnets? do ya think that would cause some interference for the cell antenna.
He has three videos that show you exactly how to do that and all of the materials and bonding adhesive
that you can use.
Ha! Awesome! You are a hot sketch! Great Video Cool Project!
Thanks Tito! 2 Thumbs Up!
