    What a great and thorough job. We found a significant loss of speed when we used ours on the WIFI side, not the 4G. Winegard indicated that was normal but I was hoping someone found a work around for that issue now that we are getting back to camping season again.

    Great video Ray. My WiFiRanger Elite does the same thing including the control screen, except instead of a permanent roof mount, the outdoor antenna can attach to the ladder or on a batwing TV antenna like I had on my Cougar.
    MAJOR difference is the price! WifiRanger has a serious competitor here with your unit. Enjoy!

      Thanks, the way I see it the WiFi Ranger products appear to have more options and features and the Winegard are simpler. Looks like the WiFi ranger would be good for more the techy types and these Winegards are for folks that want it simple. Cheers! Ray

    Seems a little more in the proper price range. The previous model was way overpriced. The one drawback I see is it is carrier specific for cell boosting. Will be looking for your follow up.

    Outstanding information, video, and camera views as always.....Two questions: 1. In organizing placement of solar panels, a Jayco HDTV dome antenna, AC and roof vents...where is the best location to mount this on the roof? Would reception be interfered by AC and solar panels or do you suggest the higher mounted platform to gain height? 2. How does this compare to Wineguard's TOGO? Seems TOGO has a better plan but I am NO techie. Thanks.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  5 лет назад

      For any antenna as high as possible is best but away from other roof items, I think the instructions recommended 12". The Winegard ConnecT 2 is older model than the TOGO but I believe its basically the same unit just made for AT&T's special unlimited plan. I may be reviewing one soon, just have to see if I can get the AT&T plan being Canadian and all, sometimes is tough since I don't have a US address, may be able to use my friends. Cheers, Ray

    I used to work for an ambulance company and we used a device called a "feeney modem" in the ambulances. They're similar to this unit, more expensive, but also more industrial/rugged. These things are nice because they keep one wifi network. Having to add network for all of your wifi devices every new place you stay can be a real pain. Only having to update the one "gateway" device like this is nice. The feeney device supported certain carriers, or there was a more expensive unit which supported all of them. With Verizon, you call and give the device id and with ATT, you plug the sim card in. One thing the winegard seems to be missing is the auto sync? I would expect it would try wireless, if it's not available, auto flip to 4G. Does it work this way, or did I miss something?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 лет назад

      You have to open the admin settings in a browser and switch from WiFi to 4G LTE. I could be wiring but I didn't see an auto sync. I guess they don't want to have people accidentally eating up all their cell data.

  • @garygeiger867

    Good video. I believe you used the Winegard network which I understand runs about $65/month or you can use a Verizon sim card and their network about $35/month. As of Jan 2023, Verizon does not have 4G sim cards only 5G. Will the 5G verizon sim card work?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  Год назад

      Sorry I'm not sure. 5G wasn't really around 4 years ago, maybe the new ones support it. I'm Canadian so that is why I used the Winegard plan as it worked in both countries. I have Starlink dish now so don't use the ConnecT 2 anymore.

    Another nice review but I was watching some older reviews, many good ones...What happened to the WeBoost one? I had replied that the indoor range seemed terrible when moving from inside antenna.... So the weboost seem to get good reviews even thou you were the only one that tested indoor range that I saw anyway. So how do these compare??? Thanks for all your hard work...

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 лет назад

      Its really comparing apples and oranges. The weBoost is a cellular signal amplifier so it will boost incoming and outgoing cell signals. That's all it does but it can do multiple devices and carriers at the same time.
      The Winegard is a Wifi booster so it extends the range of WiFi signals. It has a built-in WiFi router to rebroadcast one signal. So it has really good range. It's on the roof and we are getting full WiFi bars on all of our devices. The weBoost had no Wifi router built into it. it does not boost WiFi signals only cell.
      The version of the Winegard Wifi extender I have also includes a built-in cellular data antenna that can be used with a sim card to receive cell data signals then it will use it's WiFi router to rebroadcast them into the RV like a hotspot. BUT it can only do cell data NOT phone calls and it only does one provider at a time unless you go on the roof and replace the sim card with another cell data provider. Cheers! Ray

      Love Your RV Ha...now my brain has cut on finally. Some reason I was thinking without really paying attention the the 4g LTE was cell boost. ( no good reason ) I’ll blame it on getting older. LOL Thanks for the other answer from other video. Didn’t know that construction of RV could effect signal. Did watch the new weboost review from RV with Tito. And that is a pole...A little much to deal with to me... Maybe by the time I get out there next yr they figure out a good one....Thanks Ray....Great channel...

    What is the benifit of using a separate SIM in something like this as apposed to just using your phone as a hotspot

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 лет назад +1

      I think because it is on the roof versus inside the rig it will get better reception, plus its antenna will be much bigger than the one on your phone so should have better range. It will depend though on where you are. If you're in a strong signal area it won't make much difference. At least that's how I understand it. Cheers, Ray

    • @billlan0
      @billlan0 6 лет назад

      Also, the cell carriers throttle hot-spot connections MUCH sooner. Verizon throttles data through a hot-spot at around 600mb each month and the throttling makes the connection all but unusable for anything more data intensive that say email.

      @bbolin711 6 лет назад

      Bill Lancaster So you either get 2 SIMS one for the connect 2.0 and your cell phone or use something like gmail voice for calls. Or can you swap the SIM into your phone. Would think swapping would be a pain

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  4 года назад

      This unit doesn't pick up TV or Radio. It's for getting internet via a WiFi or cell data source. You can pick up TV and Radio stations with simple antennas. Most RVs already have them built in.

  • @roadrunnersx2453
    @roadrunnersx2453 5 лет назад +2

    Do you still use your we boost now that you have the Winegard??

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  5 лет назад

      Yes, because they are sort of apples and oranges. The Winegard is simply a single cell data hotspot, it can't amplify any other device you may have like, for instance, our phones or my Verizon MiFi Hotspot. The weBoost amplifies all types of cell signals and can do multiple at the same time. I've used the Winegard as simply another cell data option and it has worked well.
      Having said that the last trip I did to the US for 6 months we only used the weBoost system 3 times. I'm finding cell coverage is improving to rural areas each year making the booster less and less needed. The biggest pain point I encounter now is crowded, slow cell towers when that happens speeds slow and disconnects happen, no booster can solve that. That's why having multiple data devices and carrier options helps as many times one carrier is slow and another is fast. Cheers, Ray

      Yes, this is what it says - Month to Month Plans - Expires in 30 days
      Looks like it can be purchased as one-time thing or set up to auto renew when either the data or 30 days expire. I can't see anywhere whether the data rolls over if unused, but I doubt it.

  • @WindersRanger
    @WindersRanger 6 лет назад +1

    So wineguard requires a data plan that goes month to month. Do you need the data plan regardless or does it also act like a wifi boost for open signals?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 лет назад +1

      Its primarily a WiFi booster and can be purchased as just that. The model I have has an extra option to receive 4G cell data signals as well. I guess the idea is so you can have internet even if the RV park doesn't have WiFi or it's really slow.
      But you don't have to have the month to month plan to still use the unit as a WiFi booster. There is a place in the setting to switch between the two functions.

    • @WindersRanger
      @WindersRanger 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah im not sure exactly what I would need. The month to month sounds good since we don't use the RV as much as what you do. We scrapped the south west trip this and pushed it back till next year but we are still taking the RV out probably up to VA. Im sure I could use my own internet or at least boosted WIFI. I am going to install a fantastic fan as soon as the rain will stop for long enough to get the job done. Maybe when I get that done Ill look a little more into the wifi thing.

    Hi and thanks for your great videos! How does the Winegard ConnecT 2.0 - WiFi Extender & 4G LTE Extender work in conjunction with the verizon jet pack?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  5 лет назад

      It doesn't, they are two separate internet data cellular reception devices. I believe it is possible to take the Verizon sim card out of the Jetpack and put it in the ConnecT but of course, you then lose the portability the Jetpack offers. For my Jetpack I have a weBoost cellular poster system I use to increase its range when need, though I find these days I need it less and less as the coverage gets better. - www.loveyourrv.com/weboost-drive-4g-x-rv-cellular-booster-kit-review/

    How are you dealing with the cost of WiFi Data and coverage issues with different carriers?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 лет назад +1

      During the summer we stay at an RV for months at a time. We pay $50 a month for premium campground WiFi and also can get on a citywide free hotspot. In the winter traveling south, we pay per gigabyte, usually 8-10 dollars per gig, for cell data and try and find free WiFi connections when possible to download larger files. We have Verizon and T-mobile. Verizon has the best rural coverage but is the most expensive. I'll be interested to see what the Winegard cell data plan is like come this snowbird season.

    • @darrellboyd
      @darrellboyd 6 лет назад

      Have you looked at what you're using throughout the course of the year and analyzed what it's costing you for data each month? The $50 per month sounds pretty good if that's unlimited and without any throttling. I also have Verizon so I know how expensive they are, and am looking for any way I can find to avoid using them if possible. My plan throttles me back to 600k when I hit 15gb.

      @klyonsden 6 лет назад

      Exactly my question. I was about to purchase the WeBoost. Now I am confused

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 лет назад

      The difference is the weBoost will boost multiple cell signals at the same time. For example, say you have two phones and a data hotspot all on different carriers or accounts. The weBoost will boost them all. The Winegard only works with one cell data account and doesn't do anything to boost phone calls.
      So for most people, no it wouldn't replace it but for someone who only wants one cell data signal boosted it may be all they need.
      I'm not sure if it has as good of range as the weBoost, will be interesting to test.

    Sure wish I could someone to help set up my Winegard Connect 2?

    Winegard customer server is HORRIBLE. Was waiting on the phone for 1 hour before they answered and then put on hold for another hour because the customer service (?) rep had to route me to the connect 2.0 specialist. They never answered. After 2 hours I gave up.

      That is pretty bad alright, wonder if it has to do with the current Covid situation, I know many people are having to work from home now. Also, RV sales have boomed, maybe short-staffed. Cheers, Ray

    Another great video Ray. Looks like you guys are settled in nicely and in the same or close to same spot as last year? That’s a beautiful park!
    We head for the PNW next week and we honestly can’t wait to leave the heat of Texas! 😰
    In the process of ordering our solar/lithium setup, hope to install it in cooler weather than here right now. Are you busy for a couple of days? Lol 😂
    Actually we may end up visiting you guys up there when we get to the border.
    So does the Winegard SIM card draw off Verizon and AT&T or just Verizon?
    I already have the WiFiRanger Go2 Elite AC and a really good unlimited AT&T hotspot but we’ve been contemplating getting another Verizon jet pack. Gave our old one up a couple of years ago as AT&T worked everywhere it did and lots of places it didn’t.
    However, AT&T towers have become very crowded and it looks like Verizon is making a great comeback. Was at Thousand Trails Lake Whitney, Texas a couple of weeks ago and AT&T was terrible while my neighbor had excellent service on Verizon. It got my hamster wheel turning as internet access has become very important to us this year for work. Was even contemplating satellite internet.
    Will be looking forward to the overall review on this in a couple of months 👍🏻
    Happy camping ⛺️

      Haven't had a chance to test it too much yet, but my initial impression is it's about the same.

    That's crazy $$$. You could buy a ALFA for $25 and hook up an external antenna and do the same thing. Everyone has a phone, so I suppose this would be an alternate if you don't have one?......Not sure what this is doing that can't already be done for way less?.......

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 лет назад

      The comparable kit from ALFA is $149 amzn.to/2IFE8oH versus the new ConnecT 2 at $190 amzn.to/2x4kemb so I don't see a huge difference. I don't know performance wise which is best but looking at the hookup the Winegard is looking a lot simpler to install and power. Of course, if you are able to cobble together your own system out of the cheapest separate components you can almost always beat out the prepared kits but that takes a bit of skill. Some have it but most are looking for a ready-made solution.

    Not one of these videos shows you exactly how to wire your winegard up to your battery

      I did that in the next video - www.loveyourrv.com/winegard-connect-2-0-installation-and-review-wifi-extender-4g-lte/ Here is the video link - Winegard ConnecT 2.0 Installation and Review (Model WF2-435) ruclips.net/video/mF73kSNrGMQ/видео.html In this video, I install and review the new ConnecT 2.0 WiFi Booster from Winegard with the optional 4G LTE package.

    What's the name of that company? Seriously that branding is beyond ugly to put on a rig. I'd have to get some plastic paint before installing it.

      haha, ya, kinda like the giant stickers they have to put all over RVs.

      I'm guessing your question was rhetorical. What's wrong with the branding? If you haven't noticed there's huge name decals all over your trailer.

      Ugly is ugly. Oh, there are no decals on my rig.

      I think Ray and I commented at the same time. I actually "shaved" some of the decals on the trailer I just sold. Makes me want to remove them from my new trailer (still sitting at the dealer). Would be good time to do it so there's no ghosting.

      It is ugly. Good thing it's on the roof.
