    Hello Grand Adventure. Saw this video just before getting our very first RV. We were stressed about what to do about Internet. Getting quotes for $200 a month and being told I need equipment that costs hundreds each and having to get a 2 year agreement. After seeing this video, we tried it. Used your friend code and got $35 off the first month. Purchased a ZTE A7 for $69 and a GL-iNet 300M mini smart router for $28. Now only $40 month with no contract. This works great!!! Wifi while driving! Wifi in the trailer! Watching Netflix and using social media on 2 phones at the same time and no issues. FaceTimed family. Thank you so much for the info!!!

    gREAT vIDEO! Pam and I, at 73 years old, have decided to go full time, commencing June 1st. Our biggest concern other than medical contact was the internet. YOUR VIDEO JUST SOLVED OUR INTERNET PROBLEM! Thank you much. - Vince and Pam

      You're most welcome Vince & Pam! Because we need Internet for work there's no one-size-fits-all solution presently available, so while we rely on Visible we have a few back-ups in our bag of tricks, too. But Visible is by far our most cost-effective solution. Best wishes for your upcoming full-time transition!

  • @t.michaelhankins5865

    I have been researching the internet problem for over a year. We had previously used AT&T with an iPhone which did not work half of the time when camping. Everything I looked at was limited or overpriced for what we need. Compounding the shopping problem is the fact that so many people give bias reviews due to sponsors and free stuff. Thanks to your review, I ordered the Visible service (same day) and the $20 dollar phone ( with $20 off the first months service the phone was free). I figured since there was no contract it was impossible to be disappointed. The phone arrived very quickly, tech support was responsive and the service has been flawless. It's only been a week but so far I am overwhelmed by the value of this product.

    I watched this video several times and decided to give it a try. We received our Visible phone today and it's working just fine. The portable router in your video is not available now, sold out and no idea when it will be back in stock. We found another one for less than $25. After much struggle to get it set up, it finally all worked. We connected 3 of our company laptops, 2 of our personal laptops, and an Ipad. All worked just fine.
    Thank-you for this information. Our next step is to simply .... hit the road! This was the last step we needed before going full timing. We're hitting the road in April 2021. Thank-you!

I'm in Asia, retired, 75, disabled AND HEARING IMPAIRED ..after doing some volunteer work and now waiting to safely travel back to the US ....friends tell me mobile and internet costs in the US are through the roof. I’ve spent months looking for affordable unlimited Wifi for a 6 week road trip so that my son could do his online homeschool work on the road. We wouldn’t be able to road trip if he couldn’t do his schoolwork on the road. It was Devine intervention that this video showed up in my RUclips recommended videos. Since Amazon didn’t have the HooTo in the video I got the HooToo that is also a power bank. It all worked great!!! I got the R2 phone. Cheap and worked great. I had no problem with the devices or service. In fact it was a better Wi-Fi than the free motel Wi-Fi. I loved just putting the HooToo and R2 and cables in a dedicated pocket in my backpack so that we always had Wi-Fi hiking and the HooToo was an emergency power source for the R2 and my phone if needed. Absolutely the best, most helpful video I’ve seen. Thank you! I’d never heard of Visible! It made our road trip possible. Oh, and I never had any streaming problems. Both my son and I would watch video off it at the same time and no problems.

    Stumbled on this video quite by chance. Followed up with a variety of reviews of both the mentioned router(s) and Visible wireless service. With so little hardware cost and no contracts, I really had nothing to lose. Got a Visible account and bought a dedicated Visible ZTE phone and picked up a TP Link Nano Router. 2 shipping days later and we are streaming to 2 televisions and connecting at least 6 other devices - phones, tablets, laptops. Decent download speeds for a variety of file types. All is well. Unbelievably pleased so far. If this holds out, we will save bunch AND can pretty much count on serviceable unlimited connectivity virtually anywhere we go! Thanks so much for sharing this information!

    Ok, update, I have the phone, I did get the discount upon activation. I'm out in the sticks and it's running well. They were out of the first nano you mentioned, but I did pick up this one from Amazon and I'm waiting on it: TP-Link AC750 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router - WiFi Bridge/Range Extender/Access Point/Client Modes, Mobile in Pocket(TL-WR902AC) So far I'm using this on my main rig to check out speeds and such and I'm very very happy with this. I can now say shove it to AT&T who thinks they can treat a decade-old customer like crap and keep uping my costs for even less and less service. They have a monopoly so they get away with it. Well, no more! I will so enjoy doing that. I'm thrilled I ran across your channel and this video. Thank you....very very happy rural Georgian.

    i could not sign up fast enough. I am beyond pleased Visible ships overnight free. I have been using AT&T but receiving horrible service. I've bought 2 different routers and a antenna, and still cannot keep connected. I'm in San Diego, right in the middle of everything! I could understand it if I was in the middle of nowhere. I have Verizon cell service, but of course it has a limited hotspot- which I'm about out of data. I work from my RV and have been scrambling to find a way around it. If you contact the carriers directly, they will never tell you of options like these - they tell you "no one offers unlimited data and no throttling" WRONG. All I have to say is thank you thank you thank you! You may not realize the difference you are making by just sharing info. Also thank you for the Hoo Too tip, I am ordering it from Amazon today. This is such a huge relief off of my shoulders!

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 лет назад

      So happy to hear it, Gina! Last we heard Amazon had sold out of the HooToo routers, probably in large part to the viewership of this video, but we put a few options in the video description that work the exact same way. Any nano router with bridge mode will work. And since we made this video,Visible has introduced a new party plan that will allow you to join forces with other users to drop your monthly rate to as low as $25 per month. There are right now folks on our Facebook page looking for others to partner with. Each person gets their own bill and account separately.

    For anyone with nominal connectivity needs, who is still being stung at $100+/mo. by their cable company / ISP for basic internet service, this seems like a darned reasonable alternative. Either way, this is the sort of thing that might finally lead to squashing some of the local internet access monopolies (lookin' at you, Cox, Comcast, etc.).

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 года назад +3

      Yup, the rate we were paying for Comcast in our sticks-and-bricks was insane. Mobile internet still has a way to go regarding reliability for a residential setup, however; we think Cox and Comcast should be looking over their shoulder for Starlink instead.

      @ohmcintyre2067 5 лет назад +10

      Levy, with the Visible phone I get one bar inside, sometimes two outside and it is still significantly faster than my DSL. The phone offers only the option of a physical tether (which I did with my desktop computer and it worked fine) or Bluetooth connection which I did with my iPad (slower, but also fine). It does not offer the option of a WiFi hotspot (just Bluetooth) so I couldn’t connect to my Tv ( for some reason it doesn’t offer the option of screen mirroring either) so I have ordered the HooToo router which I believe will provide the WiFi connection to the TV. ( if not, I’ll get a USB-c to HDMI cable). I think this will work fine for my moderate internet needs. I’ve already cancelled the iPad data plan and if the nano router works out, I’ll cancel the DSL, too.

    UPDATE 4/13/2021:
    Yes, we're still using this setup every day.
    Visible has now re-enabled referral codes. Use our code BcPHP to get a discount for yourself, and kick a discount back to us.
    Visible no longer sells the $19 ZTE phone featured in the video; however, you may use any phone that Visible now sells, or any cheap new/used phone that's on their compatibility list: www.visible.com/shop/compatibility
    WHAT ABOUT THE 5Mbps SPEED LIMIT?
    As many commenters have pointed out, Visible has since re-instituted a speed limit of 5 Mbps down/up on Mobile Hotspot connections. That's proven to be plenty fast for us to work via VPN, stream television in HD, etc. That limitation also only applies to Mobile Hotspot connections; the phone's speed itself is still unrestricted. Still, there *is* a way around that limitation, too.
    For that, you'll need a router where you can change your outbound TTL. Here's the one we've started using: amzn.to/3uOhbY4 . Yes, that's more expensive than most of the other travel routers, but it's very full featured and the ability to remove the 5 Mbps speed limit is worth the extra money, as far as we're concerned.
    Here are the very simple instructions on changing the outbound TTL to 65: forum.gl-inet.com/t/change-outgoing-ttl/2096/15
    By changing it to 65, the network believes that the data requests are coming from the phone, rather than from hotspot, and you'll therefore get hotspot at full speed.
    Whatever router you use, it must have "Range Extender" or "Bridge" mode capability. As noted in other comments, the HooToo router originally discussed in this video went permanently out of stock shortly after this video gained in popularity. If you don't mind the 5 Mbps speed limit, our favorite lower-cost alternative adds 802.11ac support that the original HooToo router didn't have: amzn.to/2n7xVMH . Here's one from TP-Link that's nearly the same as the original HooToo: amzn.to/2n8EoqG .
    CONNECTION INSTRUCTIONS:
    If you're having trouble connecting and configuring everything, here are some simple instructions that we've provided other commenters. These instructions are specific to the HooToo router originally recommended, but other routers will be set up similarly:
    1. Activate the phone, and turn on the phone's hotspot feature. If you bought Android, realize that on Android mobile hotspot is in the settings that you access by swiping down from the top of the screen.
    2. Boot up the nano router.
    3. Grab another device, other than your Visible phone that's running hotspot. It can be another mobile device or PC, your choice, but IT HAS TO BE ANOTHER DEVICE. Connect that device's WiFi to the router's SSID. Check your router's manual, or even maybe the back of the router for the router's SSID and password. Open a web browser and visit 10.10.10.254 for HooToo routers (or tplinkwifi.net for TP-Link or 192.168.8.1/ for GL.iNet -- check your router's documentation).
    4. Now that you're in the router's administrator configuration interface, go into network settings for the router and choose the Visible phone's SSID to connect to.
    5. Voila! You're done. The second device or PC, and every other device that you connect to the router's SSID, now has Internet.

    • @RemedialRob
      @RemedialRob 5 лет назад +1

      Go to one of your local Verizon stores and tell them that your service is spotty where you live. Often they will give you a signal booster (it's expensive so don't lose it) for free to use to up your signal. T-Mobile did this for me many years ago (but there was a really long story about them stealing from me and lying and such so I didn't actually use it but returned it immediately upon finding out about the lying and cancelled my service with them). Verizon is known for shitty customer service so I don't know if they will do the same thing as what T-Mobile did (T-Mobile is known for decent service and I was with them for over a decade before a couple of really bad employees ruined the company for me) but if you can get Verizon to give you the signal booster it may solve your problem. However if you're not really a Verizon customer you might be able to buy/rent the signal booster from them anyway.

      @@conniejohnson1865 there's no reason why your Vizio TV won't connect, there's got to be something that you're setting up incorrectly. If you are going into this thinking you are going to put 2 or more devices on this router, crammed down the pipe of one wifi hot spot, and get anything other than terrible performance (worst quality youtube videos, frequent buffering), you couldn't be more wrong. 3rd party pre-pay services are the FIRST to get throttled/traffic shaping on verizon's network. I live in the country, in the USA and have 4 bars of service and even paying over $250 per month for 4 lines of 4G service, we almost never put more than one device on the wifi hotspot.

You CAN stream 1080p and even 4K over Verizon, people do it all the time. Even in my home in the country with 2 bars, I can hit 1080p videos during off-hours but it will crush my 15gig premium data allotment in an afternoon. It's all about the congestion and traffic shaping at the tower, which for most part doesnt matter what carrier you choose, every network is over-committed. America's internet infrastructure sucks.

    We're in East TN, and camping out daily and nightly near Erwin. Neat little stream about 20 feet away every night, helps sing us to sleep. But no Internet. Since our rent has been "0" for the past three weeks, I've saved enough to try Verizon now. Visible is a great plan, is currently one of our top pick options for RVers.
    However, by stated policy - mobile hotspot is supposed to still be capped at 5 MBPS - Visible just hasn't been enforcing it yet. They could at some point - so keep that in mind.
    Also, video is supposed to be capped at 480p - reports on it actually being capped is variable.
    As a prepaid service, remember your service is ALWAYS de-priotized over postpaid traffic. And the way they route their traffic, Visible tends to have higher ping times.
    But as long as you understand these potential gotchas, it's a great plan. We keep one in house ourselves.

    I have been using Visible for about a year. Everything in this video us true and with a little tweak you can get service for $25/mth with Party Plan.
    NOTE: because of coverage, total lack of customer service, and garbage ZTE phones I have been actively looking for another company. Visible sucks as a phone service provider but as a hotspot provider it is OK.
    I use the micro router in the RV and it is a great solution but keep your voice solution on a different carrier and use your voice phone as the hotspot when Visible goes away.
    Coverage. Visible does not 'use' the Verizon network! It often is not available over huge areas even when Verizon is. It also does not roam to other carriers when Visible is not available. You are just down. For example the entire SW Kentucky region 1000's of square miles No service. Lets be realistic. You get what you pay for. It is all to do with cost of services. They are not going to let you use bandwidth in an area where ut will cost them more than you are paying. This is true with all discount service providers. I know I have used many.
    PARTY, if you jump through a few hoops you can join up to 4 accounts together to form a party (they can total stangers). Each account gets a $5 discount per the number of accounts in the party up to 3, so each persons bill drops to $25. There are 4 accounts in each party (you and 3 others). That's it you can join and leave parties as much as you want. If a person leaves your party your bill goes up $5 but if a new person joins it goes back down. There is a Reddit group to share party info. Very easy to get new parties. Perhaps a group of RV's could get started to share party plans with like minded people. At $25 a month, I don't even turn my plan off when I'm not traveling. Not worth the hassle and it impacts the other phones in my party! In a year I have only had 3 people leave my party. They were replaced within hours!

  • @JustVinnyBlues
    @JustVinnyBlues 3 года назад +3

    A couple of important notes that should be included in this presentation. You cannot use any phone with Visible. It has to be an unlocked Verizon phone. Second, this service is great if you are in a rural area. If you are in or close to a metropolitan area the data speed is terrible. You can handle email and some static browsing, but forget any streaming or uploading. You won't even be able to upload high resolution images into an email message. I've had this for a year and that pattern is consistent. There is prioritization that goes on in Visible's access to Verizon's towers.

    • @jmtock
      @jmtock 3 года назад

      Prioritization has been my biggest concern before jumping ship from Verizon. I'm glad you told us that. On another note, how is the cell service if I decided to make this my only phone? I rarely get dropped calls with Verizon unless I'm really in the sticks, and that happens so little that I don't even consider that to be an issue.

    • @JustVinnyBlues
      @JustVinnyBlues 3 года назад

      @@jmtock If you only want to use the phone for calls, text and basic data like GPS and the like, the service is fine. Remember, Visible does use the Verizon network. It's owned by Verizon and uses all the same towers. I don't do any streaming or uploading on my phone, so I have not had any problems with using it anywhere. If you want to use the hot spot or tether it, though, that's where the data speeds become a problem. If you are running a "channel" you could not count on being able to upload anything or watch more than a low res video on RUclips. I will say though, if you are a night owl, the speeds are always better at night. But if you are in rural areas the speed can be screaming fast. I have heard though that even with "Verizon" you can have congestion problems, and of course you don't have real unlimited plans there. So it is still a great deal. If you are in an RV, of course, you can just save your heavy internet work for when you can camp in a less congested area. One should be aware of the issue. One could get a dedicated hot spot, for data only, from another carrier that works better in those congested areas if you had to do some serious data intensive tasks there.

    • @JustVinnyBlues
      @JustVinnyBlues 3 года назад

      @@jmtock As I said, Visible is Verizon. They have little overhead, no stores, and the sign up and activation process is interactive; meaning you do a lot of the work. You have to rely on their chat for service, but I haven't had any problems in that regard. But Verizon does prioritize first their post paid customers, then their prepaid customers, then carriers like Visible. That's why you are really on the bottom of the food chain in a metropolitan area.

Optus, Vodafone and Telastra show coverage in these areas on their maps however they are not true measured coverage and, yes your device may show 3G, 4G or roaming with one to three bars but the latency on the signal is such that pages and any speed test time out and disconnect all resulting in device batteries going flat quick smart. telstra just changed their plans a month or so ago - $50 gets 27 gb of data which doesn't seem to bad when the aussie dollar is 67 us cents.
      not as good as unlimited but better than I have found elsewhere. I must say I was a little shocked telstra offered a good price.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  5 лет назад +18

      We can assure you that the two devices work just fine together, the HooToo Tripmate simply functions as a router. You turn on mobile hotspot on the phone, then connect to the phone's SSID with the router. The router then re-broadcasts that internet connection to your devices with its own SSID and password. On the Visible phone you're already running the Visible app as part of the phone's configuration. On a mobile device, PC, or other device that you intend to connect to the router, you simply pull up the router's IP address in a browser or load the TripMate app, and configure the router's settings that way.
