I literally saw this exact car this morning, I worked all night at the hospital and I saw it leaving and thought to myself " Wow a blue Ferrari, never saw one of those before" then I turn on you tube and there it is!
Not that unusual to see one of these still driving around here in Italy on sunny sundays, they sound nothing like a vacuum cleaner though...what the heck??? 😲
I have always loved the deep blue color on any Ferrari. You don't see many of them because so many buyers opt for the red, but gosh darn does it look good in the blue.
I happen to be staying in Pebble Beach for a few weeks due to a death in the family, so it was heartwarming to see this father/son relationship. I'll keep my eyes open for that car while I'm here!
Lovely car and a great story of how a man from challenging beginnings in life can raise himself up and aspire to own something like this. That old petrol station makes a great background for a classic car photograph.
Beautiful video and story for sure, and the family love affair for Ferrari is truly awesome to see. I suspect the problem with the sound this 308 is putting out has much to do with microphone placement. I've ridden in and been around 308s since I was a kid and they don't sound like this from the passenger seat.
Fathers, sons and cars..... a connection that needs no words. Well done. Stunning car, I've always loved the 308 GTB and I've always loved blue or white Ferraris. Checks the boxes for me.
"Completely original...completely original...completely original...We put in a Daytona clutch..." Sorry fellas. You can't have it both ways if you want to respect the cars that are truly original. '78 GTS #25349.
Not to take anything away from the quality of the video but.... I have to agree with so many others about the unusual whine of that car. It was all I could hear after a while...
I've seen many 308/328s before but the one I've never seen is the 208 Turbo. I don't think that they were ever exported out of Europe. I'm not even sure if there are any 208 Turbos in North America at all.
Seen this car personally. Amazing lovely original example. Shame it's a choked up US version with massive emissions muffler, hence the lack of sound. Also bumper car style bumpers ruin the beautiful lines.
I am afraid I must concur about this not being driven more. 10K miles means only two or three hundred miles a year, which doesn't seem like much driving pleasure. I don't understand the passion for a car, and then not driving it.
Petrolicious- gorgeously shot as always & a gem of a story to boot. PLEASE RE-EDIT THE SOUND! The incessant overdubbing of a poorly recorded gearbox rev -which is out of sync with the car we see moving, simply ruins this otherwise excellent film!
Did this car wear the California license plate 919 INF in 1978? If so, I took a picture of it driving up Coast Highway 1 above Watsonville heading toward Los Altos. My best friend and I were chasing a blue 308 in a white 1978 Chevy Luv truck.
I owned and maintained a 76 GTB for 10 years. Fabulous car, but slow. This car should have had close to 300bhp, it would have been perfect. I drove one with a modified engine with about 310bhp (used a 360 crank) and it was indeed perfection. The power to weight ratio would have at least then equaled the Porsche Carrera 2.7 MFI cars, which was a far cheaper car than the 308, but significantly more valuable now of course due to that perfect 2.7 MFI engine.
The 1976 fiberglass version was the best and is the most valuable now. This car got progressively choked by emission regs until the 4-valve version. But the true design was the 76.
I havent connected with any of these owners for months. It's starting to sound tacky listening to these guys. Waiting for the real enthusiasts to come back.
And just to drive...hard....not with perfectly clean gloves....the disconnect with the new great depression also makes these videos oddly a bit off.....the wealth that is celebrated is not really a sign of a "fair" world.....perhaps the rusty 240z or the orange 2002 built by the kid are fit for the new future...this is medium and the unobtanioum cars....not even connected to reality.... The worst one is the black singer...ug. Part of the old world is dying...that is both sad and good.
Fair, but my understanding is that service is non-trivial (to be fair again, 928's are not free to service either....about 4k per year.... and what is says is what it says.... Driving gloves with a 40-70k car.....your point makes the video even more bizarre....they are acting like it is a 500k car....when it is just an achievable car that can be expensive to keep up. ourridelife.com/2015/11/14/how-much-are-ferrari-308-gtb-gts-service-costs/)
Part of what I'm missing lately in these videos is that part of storytelling that involves a struggle or challenge of some sort. It's nothing about these two guys in the story, they seem like decent enough human beings and they're fortunate to own and drive rare and expensive cars. This series really shines when the protagonist has to go through some sort of grand effort in the direction of their driving experience. Restoration, a learning experience, finding those rare parts...et cetera. Otherwise it's kind of like watching a museum curator point at and polish the artworks they're fortunate to enjoy on the daily. Which...ok, you have nice things and I suppose it's nice to have nice things in life. Meh.
Italian V8s like this are race derived and rev to much higher limits and produce much more power than US contemporaries so sound more shrill than their lumbering US cousins.
This is a really cool car and I want to like it, but every time I hear one I think it sounds like a electric motor. Cool car that sounds like a washing machine.
I put quite an amount of miles on a 308, and I must say the car has a great classic Italian feel. Beautiful cars really...still relatively affordable as well....though I do remember seeing 308's for 25k in the downturn...no such deals today...lol.
Petrolicious at it’s best, a wonderful story, with passion about a great car, well done. The audio of the engine though was awful, they should have got that right.
My dad’s 1980 Buick pushed me back in the seat, as the transmission exploded. Such a special moment.
Billy Bird 🤣💦
LOL!
😂
I literally saw this exact car this morning, I worked all night at the hospital and I saw it leaving and thought to myself " Wow a blue Ferrari, never saw one of those before" then I turn on you tube and there it is!
I hope people see that this is more of a Father & Son story than a car story.
Why does this channel not have more subs. It definitely deserves more…
I know eh, one of the best car channels on RUclips by far
Pretty video but whoever did the car audio recording and then editing in the repetitive annoying engine noise should be fired.
Agreed. The 308 V8 doesn't normally sound so "electric" and there is no glorious "tick" of the gated gear shifter.
Agreed! Finally!
Agreed. They made it sound like a Jetsons car
I think the US version sounds different for some reason ...
They defo don’t sound like that here in EU
Nice to see father and son share the same experience .
Beautiful Ferrari. Also, beautiful Speedmaster at 8:18. Pure class!
A very nice video…the Scherling family have passion for the marque in their veins…and they drive with string back driving gloves! Pure class…
Not that unusual to see one of these still driving around here in Italy on sunny sundays, they sound nothing like a vacuum cleaner though...what the heck??? 😲
Low sound insulation from the gearbox I would assume.
It sounded poor didn’t it for a 308
@@2702simmo bad sound editing
What dove? Vivo a Torino e non ne ho mai vista una in ventiquattro anni...
A lovely car in a stunning color, driving on amazing roads. La dolce vita!
I remember when seeing a Ferrari was something special. Today’s supercars do nothing for me.
Love driving on the Monterey Peninsula. Gorgeous country to drive in for that beautiful car.
I have always loved the deep blue color on any Ferrari. You don't see many of them because so many buyers opt for the red, but gosh darn does it look good in the blue.

Outstanding car and amazing story! Surely the best colour for a 308 GTB.
My favorite Ferrari and my favorite most beautiful place on earth! Monterey, California 🇺🇸!
I own a 308GTS. Thank you Petrolicious for displaying one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever made.
Beautiful car! Not sure if I am a fan of the sound of the engine...
Agreed. Is it just me or does it sound more like a electric motor or something
@@RumblesBettr whining cambelt tensioner bearings perhaps - it shouldn't sound like that.
It sounds like an electric RC toy car with the battery dying.
Agreed. I actually quite like the styling on the 308s, but they're by the the worst sounding Ferraris ever produced.
I could listen to this every time I drive... No wait, I do 😁
ruclips.net/video/FU5eYZ1DEN0/видео.html
The american version sound like this the europian besides more power sound way better!
The wining sound is the gears not the engine it’s self I’m pretty sure
Sounds like a wonderful family existence that includes driving Ferraris.
very wholesome video, great seeing a father son connection here, props to the dad for teaching his son what a real nice car is!
Love the 308 and love the look of the 308GT4.
Beautiful video and story for sure, and the family love affair for Ferrari is truly awesome to see. I suspect the problem with the sound this 308 is putting out has much to do with microphone placement. I think they’re much better looking than a 328
They made the Ferrari 308 1975-1985 They were rare looking Ferrari's
I think you're right. Had a glass GTB years ago. Have a 328 GTS now. Faster, more reliable. Not quite as pretty. It's ok.
Disagree. The better integrated bumpers on our 328 win it for me, tho the original glass 308 tin top is epic
Looks like it may require a valve guide replacement. (smoke on the start up)
Fantastic - my second favourite car after 288GTO...and once owned by my favourite actor Gene Hackman! Perfect!
What a story ! What a MACHINE !
Glad these cars are so loved and appreciated.
One of the best looking 308 gtb for me
What an iconic car... love it!
Beautiful story and a beautiful car, thank you for sharing.
I have always seen this deep blue as the only possible color for this car. Flawless.
What a Dream this Car is 78 Ferrari 308.
Everything about this video was amazing. Thank you.
Only a few years ago 308 was a bargain, even cheaper than NSX. Today they're worth way over 100K.
Same thing happened with literally every car.
absolutely beautiful car
100%
Beautiful color ! No comparison to a Daytona
Even my '91 Celica GTfour will outdrive that 308 any day, but what a beauty this Ferrari is.
Love Petrolicious.
10000 miles in all those years... it´s a garage queen. Such a shame.
Amazing car... It is still the most iconic modern classic Ferrari of all times
No it's not.
@@derbigpr500 -- Yes, it is.
This needs a Part Two on that 365 GTC/4 👌
This one has made me homesick.

Great cars and lovely story! Cheers

Beautifully shots with the blue in low light. If only we can get 4K on the Petrolicious website.

Who in the hell would downvote this?! Jesus. Great video, car and driver!
Where was the mic placed? It sounds electric

0-60 time same as a Honda mini van. Glad the docs enjoy it.
Good to know. I drive a Honda mini-van.
Is your Honda mini Van 0-60 i 5sec?
Only way that car would go that fast is dropped out of an airplane
No is much more areo dynamic than a minivan and its very light and has 255hp a minivan has 200

Was down in that hood last week. Great roads. 98 911 cabrio Ocean blue metallic.
The most annoying engine soundtrack in this video that doesn’t fit the video.
Its the incessant gearshifts that irritate me.
Beautiful car, but the guys sound like a knife salesman trying to sell a Ferrari. Didn't hear any high revs in the whole video.
Now you can

Terrrible audio editing
Agreed. The bar was set when they produced the 250 GTO video. Downhill since then.
Yea, they kept repeating the same 5 second clip of the engine revving through the video, and it never matched with the actual driving scenes.
Petrolicious- gorgeously shot as always & a gem of a story to boot. PLEASE RE-EDIT THE SOUND! The incessant overdubbing of a poorly recorded gearbox rev -which is out of sync with the car we see moving, simply ruins this otherwise excellent film!

The "hard steering" necessitates the wearing of gloves to drive it I assume.
