- Cell phone footage: A Very Large Air Tanker makes a drop of fire retardant on the Scenic Loop Complex in Jeff Davis County. This aircraft is a DC-10 and is capable of holding up to 12,000 gallons of fire retardant.

When the tanker arrives on scene, a lead plane directs the tanker to where the ground forces need the payload with a ‘show me,’ or talking them onto the line. The lead plane then leads the tanker to the line and pops smoke at the beginning of the line and end of the line.

Why does the dc10 air attack units have to have a small plane in front of them
I think to guide them. You don't want to waste that much water.

Its a guide plane
It guides the larger plane. It is much easier to roll a small plane to see exactly where it needs to be. Sometimes they will release white smoke to for the dc10 to follow. Also they provide crucial communications for the ground crew

Sometimes people they do it in purpose n that is what our children have to live tomorrow please when yuo go camping make sure that the fire that u did put it out when u leave the premises or u are responsible for what ever happens n can bring u to justice look for tomorrow n think about mother nature is the 1 who suffer the consequences n we pay the price later thankyuo n b responsible for ur actions

Lightning has started more of these fires and unfortunately more than a few have joined together to create these massive fires that they call fire complexes due to their size. :)

The drop is to help prevent the fire from spreading. They are trying to limit the size of the fire.
Watch the video again. If you look in the background you can see smoke and where there's smoke there's fire. They anticipate the spread of the fire and the direction it is going and call in the drops accordingly. That is not a shiny day in the forest. I promise your vacation would be wrecked if you were in that area.

You don't think it's real? You haven't seen the news coming out of California? I have personally talked to Texas firefighters that have confirmed we have over 200 Texas firefighters fighting fire in California. What part of this video doesn't seem real to you?
