Small Ankle Injury - We have to keep building

  • With Cody injuring his ankle within the first few hours of the start of this new week, we had to take a second and think about just how much we can manage. Our hopes are still strong that we can get everything needed done before winter.
    This is a good reminder to us to be careful because even the little things are able to set us back. It was unfortunate to happen to Cody's bad ankle, but well enough no major damage was done. Luckily his ankle is recovering quickly and he should be fully back at it in no time.

    You guys are doing great. Here’s a tip, cut a piece of board (2X4) with the exact measurement in between the purlins and that way you don’t have to measure every time you go up there to nail them. Your work will go faster and less tedious every time.

    I absolutely love that you’re out there working alone. As a single mom of 3 sons, they will tell anyone that their mom taught them to clean, cook, fix, repair and even how to play darts. What’s important is that you’re chasing your dream. At your age, I had 3 kids and my dream was a college education. When my youngest was 18 months, I started college. I graduated 4 years later with a double major and a 3.4 gpa. I had lots of naysayers. Everyone of them made me more determined. You can do anything you truly set your mind to do. Let no one discourage you.

Keep up the positive attitude and plug away, each of you understanding “progress is progress”. Yes, you could have done if both of you are healthy and without aches or pains. Look what you gained: you learned how to operate the saw mill, at least a bit, and were able to saw the needed 2 x 4s. And somehow you were able to nail some in by yourself. Great! And keep it up, each one of you!

    I would love to see the community jump in and help these young folks. They get hit at every turn, and then bad mouthed by so called know it alls.
    They have it how they want to do it and are working through every obstacle one at a time, a truck destroyed, by vandalism, then caught fire, a tractor that broke down, on and on, but the keep going. What about a barn raising ? Isnt there enough people in the community to at least go for one day and get it closed in.
    Good luck kids keep plunking on dont give up and ignore the ones sitting back telling you all the negative stuff. If their so good and so smart, let put their money where their mouth is and come help you. I would beware of rodents guys, i wasnt prepared for them up here.

    Having that 1in gap between the subfloor and insulation is going to make for a nice area for mice to live. Hardware cloth at the ends can stop that. You also dont want air getting above your insulation.

    For future reference, your plywood should always be installed perpendicular to the joists that support it. When you install the sheets parallel to the supports, you will get sagging between joists. But still great effort. !!!

    Readers how look at this, there are some other ways to do this. Ask your self Why start with insulation and floor before the house is water and wind proof with Tyvel all around the house, 99.99 of all american houses put a flooring before the house is water proof?????. Also Google what the standard demension is (C/C. Then you do not need to cut insulations and boards. If you want to do a floor they did it right to Not have plywood between the wall and floor. when do insulated floor you can put a 1x4 under the floor frame so after that you just drop (if you using C/C standard) a sheet in to the bottom and then insulation and then plastic and then floor. Is it a reason to start with the floor insulation before you wrap the house with Tyvek?

  • @tonyhash1174
    @tonyhash1174 Год назад +1

    You guys need to make you some jigs for all those repetitive task. A couple of boards cut to to the length of the space between perlins and you can simply rest the next one on top and nail. Same with marking your floor hoist. Make a small 90 degree jig to slide along the top of the hoist and Mark with your pencil. You can put those tape measures away for a while. Hang in there!

    If you need to cut rigid foam board again buy the cheapest hand saw (they call them "toolbox" saws) in the store. You will sail right through that foam. A circular saw also works very well if you don't mind the foam chips everywhere. Hint: the toolbox saw works as a square as well using the right angle the handle forms with the blade.

    I hate to be bossy or a know it all but the easiest way to cut that styrofoam is with a utility knife that has the retractable 4 inch blades the kind that you can snap the point snaps off when it’s dull or the best way is with a table saw
