Sorry for your loss
Greg is also an outro main, he even shows two different way's to do it!
The only thing I'd use for a "main" is the op I'll play when either all needed roles are filled or i don't know who I wanna play
There’s a league term that a couple of casters on the pro circuit have used for this, they call it a “Comfort Pick” and I think the terminology suits pretty well imo
I agree. Most people are kinda like that. When people ask who you "main" you rarely list a single op.
I have a favorite in each role I like to play and a few fallbacks that I also enjoy. That's usually how I go about it.
There will always be a role that needs to be filled. Get comfortable with all of them.
@@phillipg1331 I am dawg 💀 did you read what I said. It also included when I don't know who I wanna play. Pls 🙏 stfu
The amount of times I have had to explain this exact concept to people who have asked me "who should I main" is pretty staggering. Siege, like any competitive game, is a game of adaptation. You don't really "get" to just pick one character and say "fuck it we ball" unless you don't actually care about winning the video game. Like, it's fine to not actually care about winning the video game, don't get me wrong. But if you _do_ decide you actually care about winning the video game, you can't just pick Rock over and over again and hope for the best. Otherwise the people you are fighting, who also care about winning the video game, are going to catch on and start playing Paper because they're _better than you._ It is on YOU to be better than THEM. Pick fucking Scissors and remind them who they're fighting. Siege? It's bullshit man. That's just the game we happen to be playing. You're not fighting Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Rainbow 6 Siege right now. You're fighting MEEEEE.
I’m a support main (Monty and Rook specifically but not them and them alone) and my particular flavor of support is that I make targets softer and I take shots so important people don’t things like that
Chip damage is a huge asset. You can do that from any role. Just get confident in your game and don't relegate yourself to support.
@@phillipg1331 it’s what I do best I’ve always played support in some capacity in every game I’ve played and I always will I like it this way
@@phillipg1331Yea people don’t realize how important chip damage is especially when your defending, attackers not so much cause of they high dmg guns
Ive been playing siege for so long as a flex player that I don't have a specific character I play over 70% of the time. I have specific ops for specific sites and strategies though.
Can you give an example of why "you cannot bring Finka every round "?
I understand why you shouldn't necessarily main a character, but Finka is my go to on attack when teammates filled out other roles. I get she's not the strongest OP overall, but extremely versatile.
Essentially, is there a certain map/situation you can point out where shes a hindrance or a direct substitute is better?
I mean, she’s a lot like doc. Having them will NEVER hurt the team, but there are operators that bring more benefits than them.
I just press the random button because the point of siege is to be comfortable with flexibility
"This video is for people who are trying to play pre-made and competitive and get paid; it is not for people in solo and just trying to have fun."
So it's for like 5% of the players who already know the folly of playing solely ~3 characters.
I have "mains" and for what it's worth I'm not sorry, but as I play more my "mains" have developed into a small squad. I main Twitch, Capitao, and Ace, with Thermite, Buck, and Hibana in the back pocket. I am guilty of crutching the 4 drones, yes I'm working on it. Ironically I don't have a defensive main, I have a default pick if I can't decide (Kapkan) but I don't really main defenders like I do attackers.
I think maining an op is fine as long as you're not a one-trick. Like I main Smoke but if my team needs another op I'll switch off Smoke to cover my team.
Very well put! I try to pick based on what I want / we need per site rather then a single device/gun/feature.
Every once in a while I will force myself to play a around in order from top to bottom one round with every opp just to learn some variety can’t be valk and ace every round
Me personally I have preferred ops for each role or what needed. We need a roamer? I'ma select Jager. We need a info/support? I'ma pick lion or even doki. Tho I will always take an op that better suits the scenario over my preferred.
I certainly have an operator I main. Mute and Ace are my most played ops. I also play smoke, Jager, Kaid, and now Turburao on defense: HB or Monty sledge or thatcher on attack.
I'm trying to mainly play, not main, mainly play azami because I'd like to learn strats with her
To me “maining” is the operators a player is most known for. If you know a player is a BAMF with a certain op, that’s a “main” for them. Least for me I try to main a roster of ops and not just a couple ops. Honestly I think I only play a dozen ops apiece from attack and defense, and try to have one or two for each role I might have to cover. About the only operators I know I just don’t play are shield ops and snipers.l, which I wouldn’t consider a significant disadvantage in the big scheme of things.
Realistically, you can main solis, azami, and fenrir as they can be brought on literally every bombsite.
Yes, but there are ops who fill the same role and can bring variations to help the team.
I think its good to not have A main.... but mains. Plural.
Ie. On attack, i main Jackal, Capitao, Nomad, Amaru, thermite, thatcher, and Zero. Not only do i have multiple backups incase one gets banned, but also for when an op gets picked.... but a bonus, is these ops all play differently from another.
My mains on defense: Mute, Kapkan, Castle, Kaid, Azami, bandit, Smoke, Oryx, Valk, and Cavi. Something for intel denial, something for wall denial, something for site setup, something for intel, something for traps, something for roam. All cover something that team might need, and if one gets banned, or picked by another player, then i have another op for the same role, assuming that role hasnt been taken yet.
Its not picture perfect, but it works for what it needs to work for.
Then what also this does, let's say an op doesn't work, as the enemy setup, perfectly counters one of my ops.
Then i pick another, change my role up to try to counter their counter.
Not flawless, but it works a lot of the time
2:50 Finka and Rook. Nuff' said.
Believe most of the background music within the maps are copyrighted, but most shoot the radios, jukeboxes and speakers for a clearer sound, be that as it may in this game :p
I have mains, like i play cav, valk, iana and monty the most, but i enjoy flexing to kaid if we need, or maybe like a smoke
"Siege is a problem solving game" thats the quote of the video. So many times people play the one OP after they failed to yield results but thats their main! Gotta play them!
My absolute favorite operator is and will be Blackbeard but I haven’t played him in Ranked for over three years now. I actually played more Thermite, Thatcher and Ash in ranked compared to Blackbeard.
Buck is my main just because you can play him every single round, I can’t think about a map or site that wouldn’t be made easier with a buck
I have like 3-5 characters on each side I like to play depending on site map team etc
I have mains for each role on each team
When I say main, its generally the operator I have most fun with. For example I technically main Monte and mira and it shows by them having my most hours played. BUT when it cones down to me needing to swap to fit a comp, then I will.
This isnt OW, being an OTP wont win you games.
Luckily for us UBI unpredictably nerfs ops to death so your “main” can be worthless next season, encouraging variety
I will not say that there is not an op that isn't useful
so warden only isnt good.Damn nobody expected that
I main Glaz and Caveira
You play your “main” because it’s all you’re comfortable with. I play my main because I think she’s hot. We are not the same
I only play shields
Good thing I’m not trying to go pro then
I personally never really main an operator, i only use some operator more frequent depends on the map and situation
Tho there some operators that i used regardless of maps and situation (sam fisher, lesion, kapkan, lion, nomad, alibi)
With so many guns being unusable on console i don’t blame people for maining ops
Perfect practice makes perfect application
Im gonna tell you again play comp its way more fun last time you told me you tried it and didnt like it please try it again its great this is the type of stuff we do in comp and way more at a higher level its so much fun I suggest it 100 times. Im gonna start commenting this on every video.
Tbh I thought of being a one trick pony for rainbow 🌈 is just funny to thing about.😂
Also try to main all the ROLES
Me...I'm obsessed. I want siege-foo
i don't main bc it's simply more fun to play more characters
I don’t think Ash mains have the intelligence to understand the point you are making.
For me a "main" is a Comfort pick you should take only after all the necessary rolls have been fulfilled for the round, that is what a main should be in seige.
There you go, i just saved you 18 minutes of yaping on a video.

You need 3 to 5 operators on attack and defense your comfortable with in any situation. That way you can try to adapt to what the team needs
I used to always get asked what my main was. Never had one. There are some that fit my style of play better but I adapt to the situation. Now I started playing on the version where I had to spend renown to unlock operators so Fuze was my first attacker. The idea of having a main basically says you are not flexible and would rather play how you want without considering the team dynamics.
I have favorite Operators. And I used to Main Sledge quite a bit.
But not only did that not usually work tactically in a match, it got kinda dull.
If you have a great round with an Operator, or even just a good one, 4/5 times the enemy will have a counter to you next round. So if you stick to that, you WILL lose that next round.
I’m your average 1.25KD 56% win rate quick play player. I’ve learned so many things from Gregor and company over the years I owe you and the other creators all my progress.
I had a situation the other day with my trio I wanted to try Mira in bank basement. The problem is my 2 friends have played site anchor defense for 8 years straight so when I asked both of them if one could board the lobby hatch above the vault neither of them knew where it was.
You can’t learn the game if you play it the same every single game round after round
No yeah, Gregor, iceycat, and Varisity gaming have given me so much knowledge especially at the beginning
That’s part of the reason I main cav. I actually know what people are saying when they call out locations now😂 I used to just castle or azami on site never learning the maps. Cav is a great op for new players because of that
The only " maining" I do in Siege is maining a role. Like Hardbreaching maining. Become dedicated to breach stuff.
or on defence, " main" roamers. To fall stuck with a singular character as much as possible really isn't the play in a game like this.
Then there is me who only plays 3 armor ops 💀
No shame in that
@@GTSVipermanjust fits my play style
Say it louder for the people in back Greg. I literally play everything (well except Blackbeard lol) and have blast. One tricking is stupid in pretty much 99% of situations. This isn’t pro league. We don’t have high enough skills amongst teammates (well most of us 😭) to make for fact you can’t (or won’t )play anything else 😂
This is why I don’t main Operators
Will u complete the list with the missing ranked maps from the recent video? (For the new guys here :) )
Honestly manning a couple of ops while you're learning the game is quite useful!
So you can get comfortable with 5/6 ops on attack and defense and then you learn the game properly but not having to think as much for recoil and how to use your op and then you can start to branch out to other ops
I've been playing the game for 6 years and I still do that, have about 5 ops on each side that are my go tos for each role so I can cover whatever the team needs and can also play whatever operator if I'm feeling like it or if I need a very specific job
So like Gregor was saying one tricking in this game is stupid, but maining a bunch of ops on each side is actually a really good strategy to get comfortable with the game's mechanics
Love you Gregor, but the audience this conversation is for isnt watching this video.
They are on their phone during the drone phase, watching TikToks with GTA5 montages somewhere on the screen, a baby is screaming in the background, and when you tell them “hey dude, the ranked match started” you are met with bullets to the back and a friendly ‘Go Fuck Yourself’ and then muted…
That guy's an asshole. I think you had one bad experience. Which is a shame, but the game offers so much more than that.
Greg makes a good point. The majority of the time you won't have these situations in higher elo.
Ok Copper 3
You’re probably copper 😂
I play a lot of MOBAs, which is more character intense sure, but it is so useful there to play characters so you can expect what your opponent will do and just understand all of the roles so you can play with them better.
Then the games format will have to change. In regard to strictly Roles. Check out Overwatch. The only reason a player will main a character is because the character is actively strong in said meta. So in rainbow six every character is classified offense or defense and not by what their active role is to the game. Divide the characters into role specific. From there we could go as far as a role queue which for rainbow six would teach people the game and how to play it. The rainbow six community is not beginner friendly. And for this reason the divide of roles would teach people how to play and what to do for your characters play style and loop.
Characters are classified by their roles though.
If you play azami a lot you know a lot of good places for her barrier, if you play kapkan a lot you know better kap spots and where people generally come in on maps, common doors. If you play a lot of jaeger you learn good jaeger spots, same for mute. Valk with her cam spots. Maining someone for a decent period of time is pretty necessary to learning their gadgets role.
I am trying to learn to "flex" so i try to fill roles that others dont want
I main "strats" if that makes sense. For a given site, I have 1 or 2 opp specific strats, and I try to do my favorites. If I can't, THEN I go to a default generalist like smoke/ash.
I main operators because they're cool. But by doing so, you have to figure out how to actually make them work good.
I actually was an unironic pre-rework tachanka main. I loved turrets and the character but he was pretty ass in typical situations. I started setting up his turret off site behind destructable walls, acting as a concealment barrier for my body. Since attackers don't expect a tachanka to be roaming, they keep headpeaking on after the other, not realizing they are shooting a shield.
I main ops to fit my play style, easy to use flanking place it and go. Jeager, Mozzie, Sladge, Thatcher, mute, or anyone that was nerfed cause of their pick rate or ban rate.
I left seige after they made the entire SAS obese for who god knows why. Roaming became a chess game rather than a waiting game.
I would say pick someone you are comfortable with, but that'll end up a bullet to the back of my head.
And i think its about adapting too. I See my enemie has a Kapkan big Problem. I Pick Brava and Hack Them the enemie is annoyed and Doenst Pick Kapkan next round. You See how this solved the Problem. Now they enemie has Warden and spawntraps 3 of my mates but tahts another issue.
I generally don’t main anyone but I definitely play caveira shotgun way too much. I just feel so safe with her and I generally frag out with her but people get so mad at me cause she’s supposedly a bad op. On attack I main glaz and okay pretty aggressively with him. Unless they have a warden then my smoke strats just get shitted on
Just some general question: a rant video obviously will get way less views than any other video, since it's a rant. Do you think it's a good idea to use the sponsorship video for something that doesn't generate as much traction? Would the sponsors be interested in sponsoring again if they got 20k views on the video they paid for?
I’m a 2.0 kd entry fragger, I don’t main anyone in ranked. But I mostly play operators that are great for entry fragging, like zofia, ash and buck. In the end if I want to win I’ll play what my team needs, even if I have to play thermite.
I really enjoy these videos, but I feel like you might end up preaching to the choir. Maybe show it happening, actions speak louder.
I know you do that in your shorts and sometimes with stream clips, but the before and after are important to see and clips don’t do that as well.
Tbh Siege is less of a main to solo play but more just your safest pick like Cap is kinda mid yet he is my hey is he bad to play right now and is he bad for the strat if these two are fine then go for it pick your favorite boy
Yeah it’s not like other class based shooters where you can get away with maining one character. People will learn what you’re doing and counter it so you’re gonna have to switch
just learn how to flex pick. That's why I hate people who mains because if their mains are picked they throw a tantrum.
I pick an operator based on site or counters. For example, basement on chalet ill pick ram and azami. If i see valkrie, ill pick nokk or dokkaebi
You could say I main mute. But really it’s because I casual solo. So he allows me to help the team without relying on my team having common sense
Whoa whoa whoa, why the F🤬 did you highlight all 3 of my attack mains Greg? You been reading my comments?
11:09 Brroooo, I used to watch this video all the time! Good times with Bad Company 2. Nice callback.
Rock Nation on Club House jukebox is copyrighted
irrelevant to the subject, but greg got a soothing voice imo, could listen to this dude talk for hours 😭
"maining" an operator is just being a one trick, and nobody likes a one trick
This video sounds cool but I’m in copper so
[just jokes man great video]
I pick a different op almost every single round and game
trust me, use a xim with ash and smurf and it works 100/100 times
Was i the only one expecting an ad?
I just wanna offer the fresh conscript perspective: I main all rounder operators, or very simple operators, like Buck or shield ops on attack and for example, Rook on defense, so I can learn maps and find tune my controls without having to worry about anything more than that at a time.
If your new, go roam and learn the map. But bring an op that has an easier learning curve and work your way up from there.
@@phillipg1331 I assume roaming is making wider more aggressive movements on defense?
i’m a fill main. whatever we need filled i’ll fill it
Kinky
i dont main any one but i did decide to pick a few on both sides to have as options i like to play (zero, nook, grim, glaz, brava, twitch) and (oryx, cav, castle, goyo, thorn, maestro) as you probably can tell i like having options on both sides and i tend to pick depending on what my team picks, but i do have ops i play if it doesn't matter (grim and oryx are my main picks). and i wont sit in my role if not needed (i change what i do depending on if i feel its needed) like i will roam with maestro if i feel we need pressure off point and so on.
Vast majority of tac shooter characters aren't really that deep, but I feel like some people act like they're learning a fighting game character lmao
And just a side note, I feel like some the worst opinions I've ever heard started with "As a so-and-so main, I think..."
I don't have "mains" but I do have like "comfort operators" that I know I can pick in pretty much any site when my team doesn't need a specific role in that round. It's also about getting more familiar with a specific weapon and use it more efficiently
My one trick is i gotta have a shotun and full auto on my characters so i can move about the map correct. If i dont have a shotgun full auto combo im lost. 1 exception is with ace on offense cuz hes got so much breaching.
In theory, you could bring his Shotgun. It's something I've been contemplating. I'm in love with shotties right now for the versatility they bring. But his secondary breach charge ultimately does most everything I want the Shotgun for.
@phillipg1331 no doubt, I need a shotty just for soft breaching. But ace has enough breaching. It's not like I need an awesome shotty. The bayliff will do the job sufficiently.
When the attackers we're able to change Operators during prep phase that was Major!
Like instead of guessing which Operator to bring you can see what you're up against and bring the correct Operator for the job.
I feel you shouldn't main a character but specialize in a role like support, trapper, breacher but always try something new never know what will work
It’s like rock paper scissors, if you keep playing scissors the enemy will change to rock but if you switch it up every now and then their going to have to guess
As a zero main I can say that maining him has made me worse at siege. His gun is so blatantly overpowered that due to the amount of play I have with him, my aim has become lackluster.
:D
: )
This was a helpful siege refresher because I feel that as of recent it’s been harder to decide on what operator I need for what site and avoiding the uncommon ops
I play who i don't usually use in a while if I'm not doing challenges toward the battlepass
I usually main operators based off of map site: bank basement/villa kitchen = Mira, cash club house = mute... etc
