Really great episode. Please do a part 2! It is crazy how popular Saturn has become with collectors now. I can not even find crappy sports games for under $30 locally, if I find saturn games at all.
I came here to comment exactly this. NBD if Sega Lord doesn't know this, but Tim Curry is a cult classic movie star people who love quirky things will pay big money to see.

So glad I was a Saturn fan back when the system was still on shelves. I own a nice selection of these rare games, and paid only $10-$56 (with tax) to buy them. Panzer Dragoon Saga, Burning Rangers, Magic Knight Rayearth, all $56 (with tax), and definitely the rarest games I own. Dragon Force and Guardian Heroes, probably $35 (with tax), my friend left Saturn Bomberman (just the disc) at my house, and then stopped talking to me, and never asked for it back, so I got it for free. Looking forward to a part 2 in this series.
The fact that I sold my huge Saturn collection with most of these games for cheap to buy a Dreamcast on lunch date makes me sick :P. If only the younger me knew...
@@DeathToJihad It's true that some are but that's not the point. It's the childhood memories we have that's associated with these games and the desire to play them again. When those games turn prohibitively expensive to get back you kick yourself for ever letting them go in the first place. Like many other collectors I'm trying to hunt down the games I had as a kid as well as expand my collection overall. Many of us realized that we would regret selling off our old games to get the new releases after some or even a lot of these games had already been lost to us. We realized replacing them would be an enormous and possibly expensive task. I personally stopped selling my games off during the PS1 era but others took a bit longer. Looking up these games now and seeing that they're more expensive than ever ( especially for systems like the Saturn) is a real kick to the gut. For a lot of us collecting is about re-experiencing childhood memories and even sharing these with our children. Not so we can say "Yeah, I got this $500 game sitting on my shelf at home."
I kinda feel you man, except i could buy everything again later. Keep looking out, you can get the console itself for not THAT much and at least some games are halfway affordable. Funnily enough, i sold my SNES with like 5 games to buy my saturn, used and pretty much at the end of it's lifetime. Everyone had a Playstation or an N64 back then, so i figured i could always play those with them, i wanted the console i couldn't play anywhere else. In the long run, i'm happy i did it, because obvious reasons. I bought Panzer Dragoon Saga on launch day and it still sits proudly on my shelf, and Panzer Dragoon Zwei even got played for the first time by my sister and her husband a few weeks back, and both were so hooked that they had to play it through.
Hell yeah, you not only showed one of the most OP general moves (Holy Shield), you also picked a fight that had the best fight music. Dragon Force may well be my favorite game of all time. If it were ever released on virtual console--anywhere--I would buy the console purely to play it. I love the game THAT much.
Definitely make a part 2! these videos are to be catalogued as a way to get a better field of view for pricing. Because I am going to collect Sega Saturn as well and I need more of these. Another great video man.👊💥✌
Thankfully i kept my Saturn and 95% of the games i had with it and everything i bought knew is still virtually mint, apart from Panzer Dragoon Saga which i picked up for £87.00 every other ive purchased has as a retro collector has been from Japan even buying some as back up copies for my PAL games as they are just so darn cheap.
Most of my Saturn games i paid under 40 USD. The most expensive was the US version of Sega Ages Volume 1 costing me about 93 dollars shipped. Those prices are from four years ago. I use to spend kinda crazy money on retro video games especially the ones i had as a kid. I pretty much have all the physical retro games i want titles i will enjoy and appreciate for years to come. Great video as always.
Quite happy that I still have my copies of Shining and the Holy Ark, Guardian Heroes and Panzer Dragoon Saga. Wish I had bought Dragon Force all those years ago though.
I´ve just realized that some Sega Saturn games are as expensive as Neo Geo games. Keep those videos coming. Rare & Expensive Sega Saturn Games part 2 in 3, 2, 1 ......... now.
Ive seen power slave many times. It looks like a game id love. It seems imaginative, and in that respect i feel as though it would remind me of how i felt playing games like timesplitters back in the day. I need to find out if my uncle still has his saturn... id buy that thing for whatever price he wants. Saturn was always cool as hell to me. Also, love the arcade music in between segments! Hit me in the nostalgia with altered beast and golden axe.
I love Powerslave! It is probably the only Saturn game in which the lighting effects are better than they are on the Playstation version. It was the first 3D shooter game that I remember playing in which you could look up and down.
I'm so glad that I own several of the titles mentioned. Mostly glad that I bought them new and never sold them. Saturn Bomberman, Working Designs Sega Ages, Street Fighter Zero 3, Super Tempo, and Blast Wind are just a few I bought new in the 90's and kept. I would not dream of paying the asking prices now.
Thankyou sega lordx i added a sega saturn with a terraonion mode, an action replay cart, a levelhike hdmi upscaler 256gb sd card, a retrobit sega saturn controller and a virtua arcade stick to boot. All thanks to your videos! Even though i had no experience with a sega saturn as a kid in the 90s it is now my favorite video game console of all time! Its going to provide my daughter and i memories for years to come! Thankyou so much for your content segalordx!!
Sold my copy of Daytona Net-Link Edition to the Immortal John Handcock to help complete his collection. He posted a video about it with good information on concerns with collecting older cd based media. I think he was happy with the purchase (and so was I $$$)
Savitor him and metal Jesus cocks are hurting the retro gaming community, selfish people. Hope you sold that game for $1000 any less and you got robbed! 😂😂😂
shanobian MJR has been known to ask people to just give them their rare game consoles even though they are selling to him at a fair price. He’s been known to make videos to ask him fans for money like a road trip to buy an RV and go game hunting and like for his fans to pay for the basement that’s got water damage. Plus the guy never gives anything back to his fans. The dudes a slim ball.
My mom worked as a cell phone dealer (this was early 90s so it was a big deal then) in 2 different malls. One of her stores was right next to an "Electronics Boutique" the other was 3 stores down from a "Software ETC". Needless to say, when I'd have to go with her when she worked night shift, and stay as a kid I'd be in those stores and the arcades. I eventually pre-ordered a dreamcast in 1998 but I had the Saturn before. Marcus was the name of the manager at the Software ETC and he told me to wait a week and the Saturn games would be cheap. Well, they were. I got so many games for ~$100 (My lawn mowing money). I even had doubles of some titles. About a month after that, Marcus came into my mom's store with another one of his guys with a rolling cart and 2 big cardboard boxes. They were full of Saturn games. He asked me if I wanted them and to give him an offer. We left that day with all those games for $150. I had to borrow money from my mom. I guess they weren't selling even on closeout, so he just took what he could for them since they were already considered a loss. There was every rare game in there you could think of. I still have 10 sealed copies of PDS from that day. MKR, MMX4, MM8, etc... This story isn't a unique one either. These games aren't that rare. People just hoard them and mess with the "market".
Back in 2015 I purchased a complete long case of VFR, for 90 dollars. Crazy how the price jacked up in just 5 years. Thank you for another good, and insightful video SLX!!!!
Love your videos as usual! So much nostalgia and info I actually get excited when I see you post a new one! Thanks for the hours of entertaining content!
Thank you so much for your advice. I also have final fight Revenge. I realized. it was so special because it's the last game ever made for the Sega Saturn.
4:40 There's Frankenstein collectors in the Horror community. I only know this because there's a $50 Frankenstein Anime on VHS that also has no reason to be that expensive.
Alternative means to get the same game is a great way to avoid collector pricing. There are Playstation versions of some Saturn games that are way cheaper too.
@@SegaLordX Once I was going to buy Doom for Saturn but when I saw the average price for it I decided to buy the Playstation version. These discs are not made of gold. Hahaha
Some of the games you mentioned like Power Slave or SOTN, I can't believe they hiked the fuck up prices overtime. They were fairly cheap something like between $45 to $65 pre-internet talks about them, this is amazing.
You're gunna wanna keep an eye on the Satiator Flash Card project and get yourself one of those when they finally come out. Dump a bunch of ROMs onto it, try a bunch of games, and then buy physical copies of the ones you actually like and enjoy.
Another key strategy for collectors is to be patient when scouring Ebay for finds. Every once in a while, you will find a rare title for a very low price that somehow gets ignored by bidders. I also recommend buying “disc only” titles, whoch may be notably cheaper. I bought a disc copy of Worldwide Soccer 98 for $10, while the boxed copy goes for $40. If you see a bargain like that, go for it. Finally, don’t forget that CD-R is an option, especially for super rare classics like Powerslave. Keep looking to collect your library, but don’t miss out on playing old videogames. This also applies to fan translations such as Shining Force 3 Trilogy, Policenauts and Sakura Wars.
I was very fortunate to get into the Saturn at an ideal time, when the import prices weren't insane, and the US retail market still had a lot left on the shelves if you knew where to dig. I've had or have most of what's on your list, and while I sold off some that I miss, I still consider my Saturn collection my favorite slice of gaming, despite being very into current gen stuff. Fun video!
Resellers helped sparked the expensive prices we see today for consoles like the Saturn, the PC Engine, and the SNES. They are also slowly doing it for the Genesis too.
I thought only one of my games, that being Final Fight Revenge, would be on this list, but I was surprised to find that I own three others - Sega Ages, Marvel Super Heroes, and I’m pretty sure I have a long case Virtua Fighter Remix lying around somewhere. I paid somewhere around $140 for Final Fight Revenge, and the other three were under $50 each, probably closer to $20 each. Sega Ages is disc only, while the others I listed are complete.
Wonderful episode, one rare Saturn import that came to mind was 'Big Thanks Super Keirin 50th anniversary Not For Sale Version' although not as expensive as some of the other games on your list.
I love your channel, especially Saturn games and hard to find Dreamcast games. Never got a chance to get a Saturn so I’m living through your experiences
I bought a used Saturn less than a year ago together with a cartridge that allows you to play burned copies of CD. Just to play Dragon Force and Dracula X Akumajou. I had a lot o fun.
Great VIDEO. I'm fond of the Sega Saturn. My sister brought me Saturn Bomberman for $5 in 1996. Me and my boys still play it today. I always told her that the prices were going to skyroocket. Great channel and great memories. Still shocked about dragon force. Another GEM.
*The Shining Force 3 trilogy* is wonderful. Great for any SRPG fan, and orgasmic for fans of the series. There's also a superb fan translation for Chapter 2 and 3.
Don't forget *Hyper Duel* - a beyond perfect arcade port (with extra stuff for home). It's a horizontal shooter by Technosoft, I believe their 2nd or 3rd arcade title, and the Saturn port feels really beefy and powerful, like a thoroughbred arcade shmup from the era. Has the legendary developer's typically stylish menus, HUD, and overall strong level, weapon, and enemy design. Worth tracking down.
Had no idea about Final Fight Revenge. I may have to seek one out because Final Fight is a favorite series of mine, and Revenge just looks so goofy and over the top. I really enjoyed this video. I’d love to see a Part 2.
*Guardian Heroes* - like so many Treasure games - is best known for its amazing 2D character control, super precise collision/hitboxes/ability interaction, creative enemies and boss encounters, and outstanding co-op play. The 6-player vs. mode with a massive roster of playable characters that you unlock in the campaign is a sweet cherry on top, and the game's multi-plane 2D adds immensely to the strategy in this battle mode. If your first GH experience was on Xbox using the Xbox 360 controller's absolutely disgusting d-pad, you didn't quite enjoy it as intended - and your perception of control and gameplay was likely compromised.
Yes, please do a part 2 to this video. I really enjoyed it. I wasn't able to get a Saturn as a kid because it was so expensive ( lol, my father just laughed at me when he seen how much the Saturn cost) but my wife got me one a couple of years ago CIB no less for a great price and so finally I can experience this legendary library of games. I actually stumbled upon Sega Ages at my local retro game shop last year and got it along with Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2 all CIB and in mint condition for well under market. Sega Ages is the pride of my Saturn collection and a fantastic game but it is most definitely not worth spending $200 on. I picked up a replay ram card and I'm fixing to start importing since the PAL and Japanese versions are far more reasonable in price........mostly.
10 Years ago i heard about a 3D Platformer on the Saturn called Ninpen Manmaru (i was not collecting japanese titles at these times) and the only copy on ebay was a package with 3 copies of the game for 35$. 2 of them new. A year ago i checked some of my Games i didnt knew how much they were worth. I could not believe my Eyes :D
😅😅Thank the lord for Yaba Sanshiro and the Nvidia Shield 2017!! No way in hell would i ever pay anything close to those asking prices, but your video is ultra informative as always👌🏾👌🏾👏🏽👏🏽
Until watching this video I had no idea how good a deal I got when I purchased “Shining the Holy Ark” complete with case and instruction manual off of Amazon for $24 back in 2010!
Surprising that "Virtua Fighter: Remix" is $200 or more for a long box copy. I recently got a "not for resale" copy in a standard CD jewel case for only $40, and both the case and disc were in good condition. And before you ask, no. It wasn't the Japanese version. It was an American copy.
I had two systems with a lot of games that right now would go for good money. Those two systems were the Atari Jaguar and tge Sega Saturn. I actually had Powerslave, Steep Slope Sliders, Christmas Nights and bunch hard to find ganes complete. I almost had the entire Jaguar library still in the box and complete including the Jag CD. To buy all that now would need financing.
Holy crap! I'm glad I got a hold of Sega Ages before the price reached $200. I have just the game in the jewel case, but I know how to play these games. :)
I picked up Frankenstein for £2 when the Saturn was fading. I'm glad I didn't pay any more for it! I could never really figure out what was going on in that game, but good to see it's a good investment.
It was thanks to this video that I got Megaman X2 on the cheap. The US version is stupid expensive but the jp release in the box and manual was only $50. I did just as the lord commanded. I read a FAQ to know what the story was.
The pricing is a result of the Saturn's overall failure in the market, especially here in the UK. Pretty much every PAL game released in 1998, sells for crazy money now.

Really great episode. Please do a part 2! It is crazy how popular Saturn has become with collectors now. I can not even find crappy sports games for under $30 locally, if I find saturn games at all.
Already have the outline for a part 2. We'll see how this one does.
I traded in around 30 Saturn games at Luna video game store in San Diego.
Maybe placing Tim Curry in that Frankenstein game made it shoot up in price lol
I came here to comment exactly this. NBD if Sega Lord doesn't know this, but Tim Curry is a cult classic movie star people who love quirky things will pay big money to see.
Excellent episode!! This is the best "pricing guide" episode I have ever seen and you're honest no b.s. approach to telling it how it is a breath of fresh air!! Totally agree with you across the board on all opinions expressed.
MORE, more episodes of this type would be awesome!!
Cheers, SLX! 🤘
I feel like that I'm better off buying all these games than paying the university system thousands of dollars!!
At the very least, you're more likely to get a return on your investment
I’ve still got my Saturn and games i loved and played back in the 90’.
One of your finest videos to date in my opinion. PLEASE do a part 2!
No mention of the most sought-after Sega Saturn game. Panzer Dragoon Saga 🤨.
Ikr! I just said that myself. But he still showed tons of footage of it in this video....Hmm.
Check out the part 2 he’s made!
I have a copy that is pristine.
I thought it was Burning Rangers?
The fact that I sold my huge Saturn collection with most of these games for cheap to buy a Dreamcast on lunch date makes me sick :P.
If only the younger me knew...
Cbreak I did the same with my Genesis collection to buy a 3DO😢
Don't beat yourselves up too bad. Many of us made this mistake. I did the same thing with my Super Nintendo to get an N64.
At least Dreamcast games are also very expensive.
Dragon Force was pretty addicting. I brought it for about 70 ten years ago. And I got Shining the Holy Ark for around 40
I own a bunch of those. Glad I got them when they cost under $50. Thanks for the show!
Still waiting on a Saturn Mini. Forget the Dreamcast, pretty much all of the good games for it have already been ported to other platforms.
Good luck waiting
I'm happy I own Shining Force Holy Ark and DragonForce and completed them both.
Shining the Holy Ark kinda gave me some Golden Sun vibes!
The "truly strange" category was fascinating, would love to see more of that.
Rare & Expensive Sega Saturn Games part 2 in 3, 2, 1 ......... now.
What did you think of the format? Would you like part 2 to follow a similar style?
@@SegaLordX Yes definetly especially with the cover art and the price tag on the left side.
@@SegaLordX Yes. I like the subcatagories.
Recently got my Saturn emulator up and running. I'm really excited to try out both Dragonforce games
I sold my Sega Saturn collection last year. It saved my life.
Man i wish i still had guardian heroes, my fav game of all time. Good thing im getting an odroid soon, its one of the games on the list :)
As always, very well done sir. Makes me again, start collecting. Great work
I just watched this and despite not being a collector, seeing what's out there is very interesting. I would love a part 2.
Sending this to friends with the caption "This is what I've brought on myself"
This is such a great channel, great content and highly informative 👌
Yep. I'm going to need a part 2. Also, Sega CD.
At least he didn't donate it to him for his "museum".
How much you sold it for ? Give us NUMBERSSSSSS o-o
@@rayray5186 why mjr? I know John Hancock has been bad with copy right strikes
shanobian MJR has been known to ask people to just give them their rare game consoles even though they are selling to him at a fair price.
Guardian heroes was also rereleased for the 360/XONE and ps3
And it’s like $5
I've bought that Frankstein game at Walmart for PC many years ago. I paid around 10 dollars.
Hahaha
First time I ever heard of that bicycle crazy taxi looking game. Looks fun as hell
I can't argue with guardian heroes. That games is worth a ton more. One of best games ever made.
At least it's on Xbox live. :D
The multiplayer on it with the all characters cheat code made for some funny crazy times
Some of the games you mentioned like Power Slave or SOTN, I can't believe they hiked the fuck up prices overtime. They were fairly cheap something like between $45 to $65 pre-internet talks about them, this is amazing.
I'm not gonna lie. I bought a Sega Saturn on the summer of 2019
And
I have absolutely no games for it
You're gunna wanna keep an eye on the Satiator Flash Card project and get yourself one of those when they finally come out.
Sega lord x you should do a price video update for 2022
Man, seeing Castlevania Symphony of the Night gave me chills. What an awesome game!
Castlevania SOTN is one of my all time favorite games. Never played the sega Saturn version. I need to do just that.
My last saturn blew up in 98. Was a sad day, athlete kings ( I think it was called) was one of my favourites
Wow I bought that same version of Virtua Fighter Remix for $12 complete at a local retro store about 2 years back. Had no idea it jumped up in price.
Yesssss Dragon Force and Guardian Heroes were my absolute favorite. I honestly never see those on anyone's top list especially DF.
I bought a used Saturn less than a year ago together with a cartridge that allows you to play burned copies of CD. Just to play Dragon Force and Dracula X Akumajou. I had a lot o fun.
Sonic Jam prices can vary all the time, I’ve seen it as low as $40 for just the disc and as high as $150 for complete in mint condition
The Japanese version sometimes goes for as little as 25$. And it's the exact same game.
@@SegaLordX Exactly why I bought the Japanese one.
Thank God for Emulation!
Spot On
I'm trying to get Saturn emu running on my GPD XD for just this reason. All tips are welcome for this noob.
Great video! As always. This channel truly is a RUclips's treasure
Thank you for the kind message. It's always good to hear.
@@SegaLordX keep doing what you are doing brother. We need more video game historians like you in RUclips!
Those two FMV he software disks are actually fantasy games now. They show you respectable homes you could actually buy as a working class.
Awesome video SLX, I'm glad someone out there covers Saturn games and Sega games in general.
Topic is certainly worthy of another episode. Thanks for the research and production, Sega Lord X.
Well it's also playable on ps1, and the ps2 mega man x collection, as well as the recent mega man x anniversary collection for modern consoles
Rare & Expensive Sega Saturn Games:
ALL of them.
There's still puzzle and fighting games that can be gotten for sane prices.
The pricing is a result of the Saturn's overall failure in the market, especially here in the UK. Pretty much every PAL game released in 1998, sells for crazy money now.
Really? I thought the Saturn only failed in the U.S.? I didn't know it failed in the U.K. as well.
This is due to only 2000 games was distributed for each 98 games.
FF7 more or less killed the Saturn IMO
@@offimatrix4897 Japan wants a word with you.
