Great review. I'm getting this on day 1.
When rumors of a $450 Batcave first appeared, my feelings were equal parts excitement and trepidation (mostly at the price). I couldn't help imagining what a $450 Batcave might look like. Seeing what LEGO had done with the Daily Bugle only increased my hopes and expectations. As the expected release date approached, my concerns grew that this might not be what I had been hoping for; less than a month out, all we knew were the minifigs, and the fact that only seven were included was a huge red flag. (For context, the Daily Bugle has 25 minifigs and costs $350.)
When the first images were leaked (only a day before the official announcement), my feelings turned to profound disappointment at the design and great relief that I wouldn't be spending any money on it. I never imagined LEGO would waste so much of the volume and parts on a black box with a bat-shaped hole, leaving space for a very diminished Batcave.
For anyone who likes this set, I'm happy for you. But given the shortage of DC sets in recent history, I hoped LEGO would come through with a truly impressive Batcave. Sadly, my faith was misplaced.

Great Review! It is an awesome looking set! Won't be a day one purchase, but I will probably pick it up at some point, Double VIP would be a good time.
Good plan, It's a lot of money to throw at a single set, especially when there's so many good ones out there right now.

Nice review Alex! It’s better than I expected seeing it in your review vs just photos. It’s still way too expensive but might consider it if it goes on a steep discount.
Looks pretty cool as a display piece, but my money is going to Rivendell. I grew up watching the Burton Batman movies, but my teens were all about LOTR, and I think the colour and design of Rivendell makes it an easy choice for me.
Great review. You have such an awesome Batman collection and display. I doubt I’ll be picking this up unless a steep discount (in the $200 range). But I look forward to the Batman chase set coming up with the Batmobile and Joker which is more reasonably priced

I liked it better on the white shelf. It stood out better than the black on black.
With there being 2 minifig scale batman 1989 sets comming in August and my large barman 1989 sets are still sealed and my backlog is so behind right now even though I love batman this set is a pass for me especially at $400. I still need to start my only $400 set the Lion knights castle, so that will probably be done first. Thankfully, I have a spot for it.
Funny thing is we are going to get a batmobile like that as a set

And so having watched both your recent reviews for the Shadowbox and Ninjago City Markets and being a fan of both LEGO series, which of these 2 (~$400) sets would you lean towards if you could only get one and why?
Thanks! Definitely Ninjago City Markets. I say that because I am a city builder and these modulars are great additions to it. Great playability and tons of minifigures. Shadowbox is great, but if it's my money (and it was), City Markets for sure.

It's a neat looking set. Is there an option to get rid of the cover (so one of the hinges) and you can display still as a box, but the cover removed?
In my opinion $400 for this batcave is reasonable, But I can’t wait to buy this when it comes out

How do you get the plate with the teapot to stay in Alfred's hand? Do you have to attach something to the bottom of it? Am i just missing something cause i cant get it to stay? Lol
The hand should fit the middle of the plate. Basically the hand is the stud and the middle of the bottom plate is the anti stud. Hope that helps.
i would really like to get this lego set, but that 400$ price eek!! Other than that im pretty sure its a taker in my book
Where can I find your display stands for the batwing and Batmobile?
These are custom stands I made for them. I did a video on them awhile back, but I don't have any detailed instructions or part lists for them.
It's outrageously expensive for what is a pretty average set.

Looks great but pass for me. I remain with very mixed feelings about the box shape and only seeing the full magic when its open. I doubt many will be able to place it somewhere opened.
If you have to choose between 1989 bstwing ucs set or shadow box which one would you choose?
Shadowbox for sure, but I would choose the 1989 Batmobile over both.
Yeah I hate that most of the pieces go to building a black box. I think it’s really over priced as well. I like the Batman classic bat cave a lot more.

I am on the fence with that. There are other sets I want to buy first. Maybe if this goes on a discount I may pick it up sooner.

It’s a good set, just not worth buying for me,also mostly because I prefer other themes
