The video is also a dedication to all soldiers, as you can tell from the Spartans, knights, harlem hellfighters, the Australian auxiliary, the ww2 soldiers, the night witch. They're definitely worth a listen. Sabaton's serious about telling their stories, to the point that they have their own history channel here on RUclips that tells the history behind all their songs hosted by Indy Neidell (who also has a fantastic series on World War I as well as, more recently, World War II). If you really want to watch a passion project of theirs, the official music video for Christmas Truce is a must-watch. They spent years fine tuning that song because they wanted to get it exactly right, and the passion definitely shows in the music video.
Another must-watch would be the live video for En Livstid i Krig, which *really* needs to be watched with subtitles on (unless you happen to be fluent in the Swedish language, at least). It's from the point of view of a Swedish soldier during the 30 Years War, and it's definitely every bit as emotional as this one. Examples of some livelier songs with proper videos would be Night Witches (the animated story video is excellent), Screaming Eagles (an older song but definitely a solid one, live-action video), Lady of the Dark (another animated story video), and The Red Baron (also has an excellent animated story video). What's The Price of a Mile? only has a lyric video (though there are some fan-made music videos floating around), but that one's...dark. *Fantastic*, but there's definitely a depressing sound to it...which fits, because it's about the Battle of Passchendaele. Which was just the embodiment of everything pointless and brutal about trench warfare, and the Sabaton History channel's video on it definitely hammers it home.

Sabaton is a modern Bard band.
They sing tales of both heroism and tragedy, of great men and terrible monsters, of battles fought in hopeless defiance, to crucial fights that determined wars.
Some other songs of the tragedy that is World War I includes Price of a Mile, Cliffs of Gallipoli, Christmas Truce, Fields of Verdun, Versailles and War to End All Wars. There's also a song they incorporated, but don't sing, called Flanders Fields, which recites the poem by Lt Col John William McCrae with the angelic voices of a choir. No guitars, no hard riffs or banging drums. Just voices singing a dirge for the fallen dead.
Such songs make grown men weep at the terrible cost of war.

Hey guys. Just like other Sabaton songs, like "Final Solution," "Prisoner #4589," "Price of a Mile," "Christmas Truce," "No Bullets Fly," and even "Night Witches" -- all of these are stories that Sabaton, because they put them into song, like other bands such as Iron Maiden or Motorhead, immortalize them for as long as we remember them.
Because I am of the belief that we are only forgotten when we are no longer remembered by the living. And there are many stories of humanity amidst a battlefield, even simply the experiences of living through a battlefield, that are lost to time. In my lifetime, I have seen the death of the last World War I veteran of any nation who fought in that war, and the same, I presume, will be true when the last Second World War veteran passes in the next 10 to 15 years, along with the last Holocaust survivor.
The stories we should remember are the ones that hit the hardest. That are the most poignant. The ones that tear at our hearts and souls...because it is those stories that remind us that we are human. That remind us of who we are. That remind us that we are a contradiction-filled species, and that we are capable of both the greatest good, as well as capable of the ultimate evil.
If I may make a recommendation, it is to react to "All the Works of Nature in the World -- Ad Astra," by Tuomas Holopainen, the composer for Nightwish. In it, you'll hear an excerpt from "Pale Blue Dot" by Dr. Carl Sagan, who will make you reconsider how much you think you know about this planet we call "Home."

Sabaton is the band that make me cry more often than any other - see also _Christmas_ _Truce_ (official music video) and _No_ _Bullets_ _Fly_ (animated story video), for starters. I saw them perform this live in Leeds on the first night of the current tour, and it was so emotional. So let's raise a few glasses: to Birmingham, birthplace of metal; to Lemmy (RIP); to Sabaton; and to those who sacrificed so much. My wife's grandfather was one of those who lied about his age - he was only _14_ when he went to the Front! He got out alive, thanks to some amazing luck: he was wounded and taken to a field hospital, and his own father was there at the same time. He swore a lot when he saw his son, then wrote to his wife back home explaining the situation. She in turn sent evidence of their boy's age to the War Office and they pulled him out. After he came home he never spoke to anyone in the family about his experiences. Greetings from South Yorkshire - Lest We Forget.

Acousticly, this is one of the slowest most somber tuned songs of Sabato, it is a cover from Motörhead, but it fits perfectly to Sabaton, too. and they managed to enhance the pathos and emotional impact of the original (which was alredy pretty heavy in that regard). All of Sabaton's Songs are about historic events or remarkable persons around wars and human conflicts, most songs revolve around the two world wars, but some of their best songs feature more ancient conflicts, like "lifetime of War" about the 30 year war, The Winged Hussars, telling the story of the Polish cavalry saving Vienna from the Osman invaders or The Last Stand, one of their most epic songs, telling the story of the Swizz Guard defendeing the pope during the sacking of Rome in 1527.

the girl who steps out of the building in the military uniform is the lead pilot of the Nightwitches, the Spartans within the marching troupe of soldiers is an obvious one, the car is the one in which Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated, the people on the horses were Robert the Bruce and his brother, there was the obvious Lemmy tribute, and near the end with the two biplanes was a tribute to the Red Baron and the B-17 that shortly followed after them was a tribute to Charlie Brown and Franz Stiglar when Franz Stiglar refused to shoot Charlie down and instead guided him back to safety over Allied lines. all of these people they have a song for. this one being Lemmy's with cameo's of all of the above mentioned people.

Sabaton is so god damn amazing taking only one side in wars, the common soldiers side, everything they might have had to go through or experience in all types of wars and points of views.
This is why their songs and especially their music videos hit so hard, they make you feel for every soldier of war, not matter side in all wars, it is only people and sabaton makes that abundantly clear!

Sabaton is one of my top favorite metal bands. They make awesome videos and songs. Like others wrote, I agree you will like Christmas Truce by Sabaton. It also brings water into my eyes as well. It is about a sign of humanity in war, but also shows how merciless war can be.

Another Power Ballad done well by SABATON. SABATON'S "Soldier of Heaven" is a story (known as White Friday) about Soldiers Buried in Avalanches in the Italian Mountains in 1916 and they are still buried in the snow and ice on those mountains today.....106+ years later.

Sabaton is not just musicians, they are modern day bards. Most of their songs are about historical war events told without glorifying it but rather make it a point to show how horrible war really is. They do not only sing about it, they also have their own History Cannel (Sabaton History) where they go into the details of the events they' sang about with an actual historian.
Since you liked this one I suggest you continue by watching their song "Christmas Truce" which is about the spontaneous truce that occurred in 1914 along the front lines in WWi and "No Bullets Fly (animated version)" which is about... well I won't spoil it, you'll just have to find out for yourselves. And bring tissues.

Really enjoyed your reaction to this video. Would absolutley love to watch some more reactions to Sabaton from you guys. Been reading some of the commens and there are some great recommendations down there but ill leave a few of my own aswell. And just to touch on what other people said, one of the most notable aspects of Sabaton's music is their lyrical content, which revolves around historical events, particularly military history.
Sabaton's stage presence is also worth mentioning. Sabaton is known for their energetic and enthusiastic live performances, which often include historical imagery, props, and pyrotechnics. So would definatley recommend watching some of their live performances aswell as their cinematic masterpieces.
    Recommendations for future reactions:
SABATON - En Livstid I Krig (Live - The Great Tour - Gothenburg) This should be the live performance which is best, it is also in Swedish (there is an english version but not as good) but has English lyrics.
SABATON - No Bullets Fly (Animated Story Video) Great history video with an amazing ending aswell as a musical masterpiece.
SABATON - Christmas Truce (Official Music Video)
SABATON - The Price Of A Mile (Official Lyric Video)
Those are some great recommendations and ill add a few honorbale mentions aswell, it's hard to not put them all on the list above because they are in my opinion all great.
    SABATON - 40:1
SABATON - Ghost Division (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) (Should be the video posted by the channel "Nuclear Blast Records") This is the live version from Woodstock
SABATON - BISMARCK (This is almost like a movie, and well has a story line to it if you follow along)
SABATON - To Hell And Back
If you have seen and read through this comment thank you and I hope to see some more Sabaton reactions from you guys, you are amazing keep up the good work!

Check out the old Irish song "The green fields of France" it is without a doubt one of the most heart wrenching songs written about the great war, no one writes a ballad like the Irish. Most recently it has been covered by the Dropkick Murpheys. Also, for all its comedic genius, the tv series Blackadder goes forth (which has a superb cast) delivers some equally gut wrenching moments. In particular the very last episode where they all go over the top. I would say it is one of the finest depictions of the great war, and one of the most poignant moments in British TV history.

Yes, agree about Black Adder. After watching some of the Sabaton songs about WWI, I was thinking of that show, and of them going over the top of the trench at the end: A very strong image for the satirical show.

Thank you for your reaction to this video. Emotionally!
As mentioned, Sabaton is all about making songs for war history, not always as sad as this one, but important to remember.
They also have their own history channel on RUclips to describe the background for the music and lyrics.
This song is not in the power metal category as many of their own songs are. However, they don't consider themselves a power metal band, just Sabaton.
I can strongly recommend the songs mentioned in other comments. I do not see a recommendation for their song "Inmate 4859" though. That one is a banger along with the follow up on their history channel. A totally insane story that must be remembered for the future.

Yes, 1916 was originally a Motörhead song and album. It was released in 1991.
Motörhead's front man, Lemmy, passed away a couple years ago. He was shown in the little picture that one of his former band mates was carrying.
Motörhead was a punk rock inspired metal band. I never cared for them actually. I tried getting into them, but I'm just not a fan of the punk rock style. I'm more into Traditional, Thrash, Power, Symphonic, and Death Metal stuff.

Sabaton is an excellent example of why metal is so powerful -- the lyrics, musicianship, and vocals. Cheers to Motörhead for bringing this song into being and reminding us of the stark realities of WWI and war in general, and to Sabaton for continuing to carry this torch. And to you both for your moving reaction. This is in no way to take away from the sacrifice of the British soldiers honoured in this song and how my heart breaks for them and their families; as a Canadian, I want to mention the Newfoundland regiment that followed in the 3rd wave of attacks on that day. Again, a regiment made up mostly of volunteers. They were stationed near Beaumont Hame, and most were killed or wounded before they even made it to No Man's Land. This battle is also forever seared into the cultural memory of the Newfoundland and Labrador people. Of the Newfoundland Regiment, only 68 men were left standing, with more than 700 killed, wounded or missing. As it was for the towns in northern Lancashire and southern Yorkshire, an entire generation was lost.
