0:29 Polishing every week ruins paint
0:40 Waxing every time you wash is also not good
1:28 Polish is for minor scratches and is destructive (over time)
2:05 Polish: smooth, glossy, shiny
3:13 If you polish too much, the base coat on car is removed
3:48 I polish once every 2 years
3:53 Compound is a harsher version of polish
3:59 Polish and compound is for restoration. Wax is for protection.

I wanted to know the difference between a polish and a wax so good ole Google pointed me here. I'm glad it did. Thank you for sharing your expertise in this area. You did a fine job.
Thanks a lot. I polish my car once a year and I wax my car 4 times a year. 8 year old car and it still looks like it just came out the showroom 💖
Nice
How do you wash..touchless everything?
@@edubb2491 yes never touch your car
First time I've ever come across any of your videos. I will say is thank you because you have explained it in a simple way that people can understand.
This was an excellent video and explained stuff I simply did not know particularly the destructive nature of polish (over time). If you are using wax furniture polish of course it is not destructive, but having it pointed out how differently car polish works was very importnat. Great stuff. Thanks for making it.
This video is 4 years old but I am so happy I came across it. You explained everything perfectly, thank you!!
Thank you for the simplicity of explaining the theory behind this. I watched so many specialist videos and all of them assumed we all knew the A and B of this job and continued talking above that. As usual, one needs to understand the basics before going further. Thank you for your effort!
I have been looking for this straight up answer for years. You have enlighten me.
Thank you so much.
Keep up the good work. Learned so many things in a single video. Thank you so much.
Great video, mate! Really great explanation. Nice and easy to understand.
Cheers - Great video, informative, clear and to the point.
Wow! All my questions answered in one video! Thanks!
Really helpful video. Seems for a basic home washing it’s a shampoo and shammy, with a wax every month or so, and polish every year or two. Makes life easier.
Just reinforcing the previous comments. Simple, clear and informative video. Not always the case with RUclips content. I have subscribed to access your other content. Many thanks.
I love your videos and I don't even have a car!!! It's just great to watch !!!
Simple, concise, precise. Thanks.
Excellent video. Really clarifies some things for me. Thanks !!
Very well explained...great video ...answered all my questions
Informative and thorough video! I had been questioning the difference myself. Thanks for the clarity and for posting!
Very informative thank you!
What type of sponge must be used to apply the wax?
Good job mate. My question answered.
That was incredibly helpful. I've got both deep crystal and gold class and now I know the difference thankyou
Thanks - very clear and quick. Just what I wanted to know.
I'd very much love to see a video talking about polish vs compound. And it'd be amazing if you talked about rubbing compound as I've never understood its purpose in life
Righ..whats the difference between a rubbing and a polishing compound?
@@edubb2491 compound is a coarser cut ,polish is a finer cut
What best for paint of a new car?
Finally ....spent weeks trying to get a straight answer very informative....👍
😂 me too
.this vid was great!
Thank you! I've just bought my first car brand new, and I was thinking I'd need to polish and wax it once a week to keep it showroom standard. Now I know I better 🙏
I use those 3 products you showed. The polish didn't get rid of the oxydation so i needed to use the compound. Then I used the polish, it brought back the shine the truck once had. Waxed it last to protect all the work i did. did it all by hand
if I sanded my paint then should I use waxes polish or compound?
Nice and precise! Keep up the good work.
I just applied that Meguiars gold class carnauba plus paste wax and its great. It was really lovely to apply and i could see it filling some of the really small scratches. After buffing it off, the car was so shiny! The reflections were amazing and the paintwork was incredibly slick and smelled nice. All i did was wash it, clay bar it and then wax it. Very impressed with it, great video btw mate 👍
Great video keep up the good work
Yeah this was great. Would like more information like this please.
Bro. Well done. Great info. Thanks.
Thank you! You explained it very well
Ur amazing at detailing👍🏻
magic, just the info I needed. Thank you.
good one, so is it wise to apply meguiars compund, then polish and then a wax. and which wax would be most suitable if yes?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, much appreciated
Great video, well explained
Subscribed 👍
Very well explained, thanks
Great well explained video. 😁👊🏿
I have a question. I've put some sort of product on my windshield, that didn't work out and I cant get it off. What do I use to strip glass safely?
Cheers mate so clearly explained
i didnt understand that now which one is good i am going to buy gold class wax .ultimate polish is good or goldclass wax?
I have a 1975 MGB and when I recieved it, it doesnt seem like it has any clear coat on it at all. Besides painting, are there any products to help enhance the color on the car. What would do besides painting it?
What about after clay barring? Is it necessary to polish at all and just wax instead?
Thank for your explanation about how to use pollish and wax.
Bro..you have done the best basic and simplest explanation of how it all works! Ty! How about using the maguires Hybrid Ceramic spray wax.. is using that product every wash overkill? Seems to shine right back up after 2 weeks? Ty again
wow, this really helped thanks
Super vidéo continue comme ça 😃😃😃😃😁😁
Thank you so much this cleared things up!
Very helpful video, thank you 🙂
Great little series of vids mate - challenge for you, clean, treat and bring a softtop back to life - I have one and would be interested in how you tackle it
I’ll see what I can do. Can’t promise anything though :)
Best explanation in RUclips
I use Meguiar's Synthetic X-Press Spray Wax as a drying aid and a wax after the car wash, it's incredibly simple and versatile
After washing my car I spray window cleaner on it then towel off with a microfiber cloth. It looks really good. Is this bad?
Thanks bro helpful and simple
Would you recommend using a polish to also remove deep surface stains.
What do you do after you painted a car and 2 mi the pass bye ?
Hi, whats the procedure to apply ceramic coat? Polish first, then wax, then ceramic coat?
So would it be good a compound and then a polish
Great video how I do I remove cement splashes on paint
Great explanation. I notice that my roof seems a little faded. I suspect the cleat clear coat is going how do I fix this. Adam
Megs UC and polish are good for improving oxidation and minor scratches, autoglym scratch remover kit is good imo for deeper scratches as I've noticed when using meguiars products, they come back after rain or a wash ,avoid scratchx2.0
If the scratches come back later it’s probably because there’s fillers in them. A proper compound will contain no fillers. Although I don’t thing ultimate compound has any fillers in it.
Good video really informative
What is the best for burnt red paint in a car? (Sun burn red car) Polish or Compound?
Polish also gives the shine as well right ?
Great video. Thanks 👍
Any chance of a quick guide to prepping the paintwork, clay bar then compound polish etc,
I’ll look into it :)
Can you go from compound straight to Wax. Or do you have to polish before Waxing
So informative!
Hey torque steer, you use a sealant after using a wax or polish?
I live much lower in latitude than you, with much harsher sun. Is there an effective UV blocker that is worth using? Additionally, I just bought a super clean used car, 2013 model. The seller said she had a 5-year “titanium” sealant, put on by the dealer for much money. Although the paint looks great (it was garaged) it feels almost chalky. What do you think of “titanium” sealers?
Explained a lot!!....Thank you!
Very helpful. Thank you!
Hey mate. Is it necessary to polish a vehicle before you apply your first initial wax?
I had a question...i use the spray wax everytime I wash my car which is like one every 2 weeks is that good ?? Does it damage the paint?
I do the same using maguires hybrid ceramic spray wax..car looks like glass!😎 so far so good
I’ve never waxed nor polished my car before. Do I need to clay-bar it first? If I do, what happens if I don’t clay-bar my car first?
How about difference between cleaners and polishers..for example Maguire's New 3 n 1 cleaner wax which has polishes and cleaners in it..and there ulitmate polish? What the cleaner part?
Very informative 😊 thankyou
If Ploish going to cut some off the clear coat then why would you recommend applying it every two years, doesn't that mean the clear coat will be off sooner? Especially if you never apply wax or add clear coat on the Polish will leave your car's paint with no protection over time. Please let me know and thanks for your video I really appretiate it.
Can I use the was paste on buffer machine instead on hand?
Thanks for your video. Are you from around Manchester?
Very informative video.
good idea for heavy wax for protection if stored, never thought of that
Can i mix turtle wax with marvel polish?
I had simonize cheap wax and lasted me a year on the car
How does a quick detailer compare? Does it do any damage if you apply to often?
No
Should you polish and wax a car in a hatch patten or in circle motion
Very helpful thanks
Whats the way to wax a car and not leave swirl marks. Better by hand or buffer
How can you achieve showroom shine without Polishes and Waxes in this case ?
Great! Was is what I need. Thanks
Good Info! Thank you!
I wash my car at least once a week or a week in a half and I use the Meguiars ultimate wash and wax with carnauba wax in it do you think that’s bad? My car always looks clean.
No, that's great.
It's polishing or compounding and claying that can be overdone.
Do you use IPA after meguiars ultimate polish? or another product for preparing a wax panel?
IPA is for drinking, silly
I apologize your video was great and informative and you didn’t talk down you earned your sub and like
I clay bar my truck and put a wax sealant on it only but is does have some scratches on it but have a clearcoat paint marker could use it on my truck.
I compound my face, you know, to keep my face rejuvenated clearing oxidised skin cells, and keep my face shining and having the natural glow :)
Back to the main topic, in terms of a very light faint scratch, would the Polish be ok over using the Compound? Cheers
rugby86 yes, a lot of polishes are “dual action” which will remove light to medium contaminates. It’s more about the pad you use IMO which in your case would be a blue pad which has very light cutting power. Then finish it with a black pad. Hope that helps.
How about for hand..microfiber pad..or spounge?
make sure you use wax to protect yourself from dehydration, UV rays, and contaminants (sunscreen)
@@Robbie-mw5uu wow, didn't realise i left this comment 3 years ago :). I do those as well, on top of a iron fall out remover, every 2 weeks in the shower as well.
Keeps my skin contaminant free.
I use polish before using ultimate wax . So I use them every 4 months approximately .. am
I right .?
Yeah, but if you use safe wash methods then you'll only have to wax every 4 months and not polish.
I believe that a lot of us (incl. myself) are cleaning their car at the self-service touchless coin washes and usually they use hot water with soap for cleanig. So, what about a waxed car being washed with hot water does it strip fully the wax ? Would it make sense to wax the car every week then ?
Great question. The warm water won’t do any damage to the wax so it’s not necessary to re-wax the car. The heat may soften the wax a little but nothing compared to the sun hitting it on a hot day. It will harden when it gets cold again. The only thing I would be concerned about would be the soap used in these self service washes. If it’s not PH neutral then theoretically it could start to eat away at the wax.
Torque Steer thank you for replying.
