Amazing how detailing has come along when you think about it. I remember polishing my first car (1981 austin Maxi 1750) with Tcut and a "Polisher" from Argos in the 80's. It was true to the word of "Polishing a turd". In my eyes as a 18yr old lad it looked good, but im sure it was absolutely shocking.
Good video, nice to see autoglym and basic processes that most people can use in action. Your comment about nutters who want more than a quick polish and wax made me realise those who machine polish are surely less than 1% of society? Niche group I’m happy to be part of. Machine polished for 10 years, weekend only hobby/semi professional, 120+ cars mostly classic and special types, started with a meguiars DA, lasted 3 years/50 cars. Then moved to flex 3401 and still going, almost always used 3m fast cut, meguiars ultimate compound, auoglym super resin polish, collonite 476 wax as 4 stage, reducing early stages or cut as needed, all after a good wash and clay of course, polishing is my happy place, clearly yours too! Keep up the content, I remember before you had an envious lineup of flex machines decoration the garage wall - well deserved collection
There’s nothing more satisfying. And it’s brilliant imo. It was my go to for decades and I’ll never be without a bottle of it. I use it on rear lights as well. Works a treat. I finally bought a da polisher a couple of years ago and it’s not difficult,at all. Just keep it moving and don’t let it dry out. Happy polishing. 🧽😄
When I polished my Nissan 350Z by hand I washed the entire car and then I did the clay bar, hand polish and wax on each panel at a time over two days. I did have it in garage but I still rewashed the panels on the second day in case any grit had landed on it. This panel by panel approach spread out the intense effort of the polishing and I think it was less boring than several very long spells doing the same thing.
I remember a test years ago done on a forum with 5 layers of SRP being about the best you could get it by hand. I’d be interested with an IPA wipe over how much had been removed vs filled, I’m a big fan of Black hole with buttery wet wax, easy on easy off, lasts couple of weeks. I was always impressed by the Gtechniq P1 with a foam applicator product videos but never felt the need to try it with SRP being such good value.
Thanks for the Prestige Car Care Shop shout out. Those Adam's Polishes applicators are available with different foams. That yellow one is designed for waxes, Like their buttery wax in particular. But for those wanting hand polishes for spot repairs etc there are others available for the job 😎 👍🏻
Autoglym resin is a champ, easy on and off, removes/fills small swirls. Got 2 of the big bottles they will propably outlast my, and my kid….and thx to your channel, i alsl got a can of fusso 99, and a can of fusso quami….
That clay bar marring is insane. ive never ween it that bad, even on soft paint! I clayed a Telsa over the weekend that had pretty mar prone paint and my Meguiars Fine Clay left incredibly little marring.
I probably fall into the category of "scared of machine polishers." One thing I found to lessen the pain is to do the car over a period - a quarter each time - use it then another quarter after the next wash. Great back to basics vid.
Used to polish by hand my E90 320i using Megs Ultimate Compound (then BH Cleanser Polish twice per year as maintenance) and top with BH Auto Balm. Christ trying to buff off Auto Balm by hand was a HIIT work out. That was 8 years ago. Still have PTSD from buffing off BH Auto Balm - havent hand polished or hand buffed since. The results were stunning, though for a 'hand job'....
Proper skills guides here and the Autoglym Super Resin Polish is very good but as you correctly state you must be meticulous about the car clean first and i really enjoyed watching this and it has even empowered me to get my lazy arse off the settee and do it to my own car!
Hi Jon, I agree with you, some of us don’t have the luxury of owning a machine polisher, but as of late I’ve been seeing some people using a drill that is probably laying around the house paired up with a smaller diameter pad to do some polishing. Can you maybe go into a tutorial or something more in depth on this sort of angle?
A cordless drill works well if on a budget. 3 speeds to see which is most effective & be sure to attatch the extra handle. I polished headlights on a SAAB 93 back to almost new with a 3M headlight kit & a makita 18v cordless driver..
I'm scared of machine polishing so last summer I did by hand and got decent results. Used Megs compound and then SRP. White really popped after but was exhausted, put fuso on top then. Took 12 hrs total 9am to 9pm. Side note not surprised by marks on this car by me a garage pressure washer has basically a yard nylon brush with water coming out and see so many people scrubbing away makes me cringe. RIP clear coat 😂
You've owned this bottle of Red Label Autogrim Super Resin Polish for more than ten years. The 'new' formulation has been with us since 2012. It's amazing stuff, the metallic flake pop is intense.
Always had great results with Dodo Juice Lime Prime topped with their Supernatural Hybrid Wax. Even sold my car once purely on how it looked in the photos.
A couple of questions I’d like answers to are: how long do different types of detailing products last for (before they go off), and how should they be stored (e.g. is it ok to store them in a shed during a cold winter). Be good to see a video covering these topics 👍
if you put SRP on a car and dont wax over it the SRP will wash off after a few washes. This bottle of SRP is 10 years old and works fine. but if it was all dry and battered then bin it. most paste waxes will stay good for years. Any siloxane based product, spray and rinse for example, typicaly lasts a few years.
I think Mr. Miyagi gave Daniel-san some of this stuff when he told him to Wax on, wax off", "Wax on, wax off". Those cars looked incredible when he was done! 🤣
I will recomend Autoglym 'Liquid Clay'. Its like that colour change purple wheel cleaner but for the duco. Not 100% like clay bar but it seems to get very close. Even if you still clay bar afterwards, its easier and there is less marring. Having said that a shot of liquid clay and Fusso does wonders for a pedestrian daily.
I have hand polished my car. Got great results! Would like to make the jump to machine polishing to further improve my paintwork, but I am scared too. I would hate to get it wrong that’s my biggest fear. Either wrong polish or wrong pads, too high speed on the machine. Would love to be taught
Not a bad result considering how bad it was to begin with! I have a machine polisher, but still do sometimes polish by hand when I have a small, car park inflicted scuff on my car. It works well enough without having to break out the cables and pads 👍
@10:49 This would be the protection follow-up after an aggressive hand-applied T-Cut session on my bright red Vauxhall Nova back in the early 2000's. Followed by green slimy bumper gel to darken the grey faded bumpers (or monkey spunk, as the trade called it back then).
I'm afraid I've been converted to using the DIY detailing clay towel, it's a fantastic piece of kit for decontaminating, I've done my car with it using P&S absolute rinseless wash with 6-8ml per litre of distilled water and some Carpro iron remover as a clay lube system, removing both iron particles and general fallout. The best way is just to use the weight of the mitt with absolutely no pressure on the towel (or you will induce marring) and keep going over the same area until it feels silky smooth. Not marring and nearly a bare clean surface to polish. I tend to go over with Surfex HD lightly to remove polishing oils and Carpro Eraser to get anything I've missed. Then work out how and what's the best way to tackle the swirls and or marring. My new car was 90% perfect as the dealer was told not to wash it. So I gave it a very light hand polish with a puc and Koch Kemie microfine finishing polish (soft paint Japanese car) after a very short time after using a swirl lamp, a further improvement ready for Carpro Dquartz Go diamond nano ceramic coating. Sometimes you do need to machine polish a car and you'll need to set some time to correct the paintwork for older cars.
I find difference of having a polisher or not to be equivalent of doing your shopping with or without a car 😅 Better results at fraction of effort. I might actually get one of those 12v cordless mini polishers to apply wax. Going back for second coat would be effortless. Nice vid
Used to always hand polish, recently though bought a DAS-6 Pro V2 and about to start using that, have bought the scholl S20 and some fusso wax to try it out. Looking forward to seeing some better results.
I’ve always hand polished with Autoglym SRP. As you say, hand polishing is an effort. I start well, but by the last panels, I’m rushing it. This makes me want a machine polisher, but it makes me nervous 🤣 Is there such a thing as an idiot proof machine polisher and pad(s) that can be used with SRP or the like? I also love Autoglym UHD wax. Other than its ease of application/removal, the best thing about it, other than the great results, are that I genuinely see longevity of 6 months plus and still beads water. Cheers, Gary B
I did hand polish in the past, but as I get older, I want good results without all the hard graft. AG SRP is great and I used to put that on when I was selling a car topped with EGP, but last time I helped the neighbour do his car, I used BH korrosol, megs ceramic prep and megs lchw. amazing results even for the minimal amount of work to do the mitsu 7 seat SUV

Had some sort of alien bird poo that etched in very quickly. I had no problem by hand once i used a microfiber pad to cut just using meguiars ultimate polish and m210 glaze but no matter what type of sponge ive used i cant seem to remove the fine swirls that remain by hand. I havent been able to fill with any wax or sealant products from several brands yet either. I have a few autoglym products ive bought here in Australia that have worked well for me havent tried any polishes yet. Do you think this super resin polish will fill in the fine swirls or can you suggest any products that are best for filling and hiding these swirls, even if i have to use after every wash. This area of the mustang seems to swirl and mar just by staring at it too long. Any advice or suggestions would be muchly appreciated. Thanks for the great videos theyve been very helpful for a newbie like myself.
Hi John, how many of us have SRP sat on the back of a shelf? Off the subject question but one I bet many of us wonder. I end up taking all my detailing products in the house through the winter, they are about to go back out to the garage today, the sun is shining after all. Looks like your garage is single skin blockwork like many garages, what do you do with yours over winter months in an unheated garage. We spend a fortune on product and I am always afraid of it getting trashed if I leave it in the garage and the temp falls below zero. I live in Cardiff and we don't have massive frosts but I still worry. Cheers buddy.

it does contain abrasive and therefore has some cut. Ive literally confirmed this with Mark at autoglym as initially AG customer services said it didnt have abrasive in it. but it does. but its a small amount of abrasive so yer its more a filler glaze than a compound.
Well after watching this and my last comment, I’m just about to pull the trigger on buying a Das-6 pro v2 and some Scholl s20 black 🤣 Although I presume AG SRP would still be ok applied via machine, just with much less cut and more filler obviously.
Saw that, so many times I just thought no what are you doing, gave the impression of experience but processes were shocking, didn’t watch the end to see the result
I've found WD-40 works well to remove tar. I assume tar remover is probably similar. Surely that would be more gentle on the paint than a clay bar. My own car has a lot of tar, I'm planning to pre-wash, go over with WD40 to get the tar, then wash again, then clay bar, then polish.
its a old school wax and solvent mix. its pretty affordable. Its nice to buff, but the durability is not great. dont throw it away it will stay good for years. but if you have something you prefer you could discard it.
@@ForensicDetailing I have it only for friend's and family cars, but hardly use it. I have much more others, with better durability, slickness and pretty much better in every aspect. So, I'll probably discard it
was new m8 but car was plastered. however bad though the marring always comes out rapidly. even with the hand polish. this paint is proper trashed though, literally been cleaned with a brush or brillo pad paint.

WD40 contains solvent to thin the lubricant so it could disolve tar but it will also leave a lube on the paint after the solvent vapes though
@@ForensicDetailing yeah it definitely leaves residue. It looks great while it's on there, haha.
I have extra gloss protection and I think I will never use it, with all the other waxes I have.. Should I throw it away?
its a old school wax and solvent mix. its pretty affordable.
So, I'll probably discard it
Nice video, does super resin polish work on a machine polisher jon
yes mate works well and you will correct more when you use on machine than by hand.
Yes I bought a machine polisher now only because I got a knackered shoulder I always waxed my car by hand not know more 😊
May i remove hologram with silk and menzerna 3000?
silk? just use soft foam pad and sure if you have menz3000 that will be fine mate
@@ForensicDetailing sory for translate i mean actually saying cotton with hand no machine
Can you decontaminate with fairy liquid?
No
John where did you get the polishing hand pad from please
Prestige car care uk
Hi Jon. What's your view on Infinity Wax Synergy 2 year ceramic??
sisnt I do a video on it? Im not sure mate ive just had some many products over the years I cant rememeber.
Think it was just the one year you did the video on . Was just curious if the two year is any better and worth the extra money?
Got 4 bottles of the stuff and not used it in years , things moved on
Probably a bit harsh as its not bad at all.
Was the clay bar dirty when you used it? Because that marring is the worst I've ever seen
was new m8 but car was plastered. however bad though the marring always comes out rapidly. even with the hand polish. this paint is proper trashed though, literally been cleaned with a brush or brillo pad paint.
@@ForensicDetailing damn that poor car
Completely unrelated to detailing but on my 65 inch tv I just realised you have no eyebrows … is this a result of detailing ???
I would say most people arent detailers. They are valeters. Everything but paint correction or polishing.
I like Autoglym super resin polish (always have) but my current motor has black plastic wheel arches so I dare not even try it 🐔
Us some masking tape if you can't colour inside the lines 😂
I don’t think it was anywhere near 70% better, I hand polish because I think machine polish wears the paint away, am I wrong
You not accurate. Depends on product really. So I can use a glaze on soft pad and low speed whizz over etc . Much better results on machine always
I found the best way to hand polish/wax a car is to simply get a karate apprentice and make it part of their training
After the hand polishing should have removed the polish from the paint completely and showed us how much it actually corrected the paint.
How? even if you panel wipe you won't strip that fresh resin. We showed paint after polishing and before waxing.
But that's not really the point of srp, so what's the point?
Black is a bloody nightmare....
Written in olde English 😂
What you doing with 16 😂😂😂😂
Very useful and informative video Mate. Thanks.
