Thank you once again for capturing exactly why I (and I'd guess many others) love solo canoeing!! The beauty, the peacefulness, the immersion in the living world! I'm no videographer, so the next time anyone asks me why I love canoeing, I'm showing them this video. So good!!
Jason, are you still going out. We sure miss you. Love your gentle, steady voice as you talk us through your experience. Love you with your family. Love you by yourself and/or with a friend.
My blood pressure dropped. The busyness in my brain calmed. The familiar calmness and presence of paddling a canoe reminded me that soft water is only 3 months away...! Thank you!!
Watching this for like the 10th time - magic when the ripples of the box stroke combine with the waves of bowline and how it gently glances off the reeds of surrounding shoreline - puts me in my happy place. I’m a big fan of your work dude!
Thank you for sharing that wonderful day on the French. It is truly a beautiful area and you caught it at time when I have not been there. Now on another note, I picked up my Swift Keewaydin in August. What a pleasant canoe. Again, thank you.
Great video - felt like I was paddling in the stern with you. Amazing colours, great sound. Music was just high enough to set a mood without being so high that it interfered with the sounds of nature. I'll be using this video to entice students to take the outdoor ed class. ;)
I have not mastered the Canadian stroke yet. It was so peaceful to just hear your jacket and not a paddle banging on the gunwale. Beautiful shot, makes me long for Spring.
You have a peaceful segment here with the sights and sounds. Nice pace! Love the sculling flourish at 7:53; I do that too after a pause. Thanks for the winter escape!
Felt like I was getting a free paddle with your while I sat in the back sheepishly with my coffee. Sorry about not paddling! Love that area....you reminded me that it’s time to go back after 20 years.
I could actually smell the smells, feel the breeze on my face and sense the chill in the air. Awesome time of the year if only it weren't the harbinger of Winter. Thank you for sharing.
Phenominal!!! missed a trip there with the fires a while back. definitely still on the "have to do because I turned 50 last year" trip. Thank yee for posting and letting us enjoy the quiet.
"What are you watching?". "Guy in a boat.". 'Watches for a few minutes and says.. "nothing really happens in this video". Me, "yes, exactly". Always happy to see you upload. Loved it as usual. Thank you
Ha. LOL. My wife has asked me similar questions many times before. " How can you just watch some guy chopping wood?" I usually don't hear her... too busy concentrating on the guy chopping wood :-)
Just lovely. I think you have a lot of creators wishing we knew how to make our pictures look this beautiful. What kind of filter did you have on the lens?
Thanks for all your videos, I love them. Please keep them coming. I do have a question for you. Could recommend a route/trip to take. You see I am a twice cancer survivor that left me with leg mobility problems. Oh I can camp, canoe, and swim just as good as anyone, but I just cant walk that far, so Portaging is very difficult. Usually I get my son to carry the canoe, but still 200-300m. portage is pretty hard on me but do able. I love nature and solitude. I have done a few trips in Algonquin but the portages are rather long to get to remote places where there are few to no people. I have been looking at the French river, especially your videos. Could you suggest something? Oh by the way I have next to no white water experience, and what I did have was on the Grand River near Brantford 40 years ago and that was very minor. Looking forward to your next video(s) and your response. Best Regards
The French has a lot of good areas that require little to no portaging. You may see some boat action there but nothing too crazy and its a great place to day trip out of a base camp. Some of my first out trips where on the Grand River!
Very nice! I'm from Maine and this makes me miss home something fierce. Absolutely love canoeing! Would you take this canoe on a river like the Spanish? Or would you prefer another Swift model for a trip that has fast white water?
Hi Ben. This boat would not be suited for that kind of river travel. You need more rocker and a way tougher skin! I did take the Keewaydin down a few rocky stretches on the French during that October trip and managed to only get one or two dings!.. not a good idea though :-)
Amazing. I could watch this for a long time. So peaceful. Are you using a GoPro? The quality looks like a DSLR but in my case I would be afraid I would dunk it. Thank you for the time of making these.
Hi Chris. Yes this is a go pro H6 mounted to a pole on the back of the canoe. The quality of the new ones is pretty amazing and the stabilization is so good its hard to believe.
Made my own paddles during Covid. Would love to give them a whirl. I’m 59 and love kayaking and canoeing. Just having hard time portaging now from aging...gracefully. Any ideas on a 2-4 day trip Georgian Bay or surrounding area? Be well, perfect vid for social isolation eh?
Hi Bryan. Give French River area a whirl. There are many little nooks and channels in even the most popular areas... many have no portages at all or easy short hops. If you check out my Four on the French vid, that trip has basically one super easy portage (50m) when water is low, to get to the campsite. Kayaks are popular there because winds can be an issue and there are not too many tough portages. In shoulder seasons, check out Blue Chute area... only two short portages to get there and super nice topography. French River is pure eye candy IMO!
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome You know it, but I haven't been back in there in many years. That creek/channel keeps going for quite a ways on the other side of the lake too!
@@earlhayes2969 No I was just aft of center... most of the solo boats have the seat (the only seat) just behind centre... effectively putting the paddler dead centre. I'm used to soloing a two seater using the bow seat as the stern... this dedicated solo position takes some getting used to!

Jason seriously captures it beautifully! It's been a long winter. I can't wait to be back in my canoe.

Congratulations Sir, you by far have the best video's on youtube. Fantastic editing. Thanks so much!!!

I love this comment. Holds true today.
Thank you for bringing the outside in, blessings to you and your family!!!

well well done - The French and pickerel were the country of my youth every summer fer 20 years - i still miss it - thankyou
Wow thats a heck of a place to grow up in... made for exploring. :-)
@@JasonIrwinTumblehome sure is - havent found any place like northern ontario fer canoein take care
Reminds me of paddling with my Dad on our moose hunting trips on Kaganu Lake, near Manitouwadge, ON. Thank you!
I could watch hours and hours of this. Very nice. Thank you
I'll try to do some more of these... I've got lots on the hard drive!
Just what I needed to see in Feb! Can't wait to get back out there
Watching in February too! 1 year after you. 😁
Please do more of these! I could watch for hours. Thank you.

Thanks Benjamin, glad you're liking the vids. I'm a big fan of all the light play between the paddles, water and boats etc... never gets old.

It's so different being in the middle... ultimately better I'm finding.
Thanx. I like the long narrow shape.

Just watched your latest... love the locked, through the trees / playing in the wind shot at the end.
I needed this today. What a beautiful spot to paddle!
Thank you Shannon... glad you got some relief!
This made my time on the treadmill so much more enjoyable , just wish it was longer . Thanks Jason .
Thanks. I'm hoping to do a bunch of them from different areas. You could make a treadmill playlist :-)
Beautiful! Such a well done video as always! I do miss your humor, though! (Insert crowd noise) "awww!" Lol!

A little bit of heaven. Beautifully shot and presented. Thank you!!
