  • Hi gang,
    60 Minutes of Pure Paddling... Episode 2 - A special Algonquin Edition upload for all the folks who might not make it out for a spring (summer?) trip this year.
    Sixty rich and peaceful minutes of canoeing in Algonquin Park, pulled from my raw footage... the last 15 years of tripping and documenting there.
    All the best sights, sounds and zen paddling moments boiled down.
    Moose, heron, loons, long uncut paddling stretches, spring birdsong, spring peepers, misty mornings and sunny afternoons.
    Minimal chatter and no music... just the SERIOUSLY GOOD STUFF!
    Enjoy.

    I don't normally enjoy these "non-talking" videos, but this series is just great! Thanks for sharing!

    That's better than meditation! Really enjoyed the White Throated Sparrow near the beginning. We have them here in Virginia, but we rarely hear them. This takes me to our camp in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Thanks!!

      One of the best things about making these films is that I'm learning about birds and their calls!

    Years ago I downloaded "Sunbeam Dreams and the Carolyn Jane" from Vimeo. It lives on a thumb drive that goes everywhere with me. Whenever I need a canoe country fix I pop it into whatever device is handy. Thanks for posting this.

    I have been slowly watching through you video trips. A keen lifetime paddler myself. I have so far, focused on stills. I am just getting into a GoPro 5 that I have had for a while. Your videos are an inspiration on several levels. Keep up the great work. You should be earning a living at this 🙏

    Thank you so much Jason for taking us along as your silent paddling partner. You’re composition and framing of shots is masterful and those autumnal colours reflected on still water is just eye wateringly beautiful.
    These latest two films really capture the essence of a solo trip. Paddle at your own pace and having the luxury of stopping and listening to the world. Just stunning!
    I was chilling out in the bath this evening watching this for the second time whilst my wife was reading next door in bed. She started freaking out as she thought there was something weird creeping around outside, but it was the loons calling on your film!😆 They confuse the hell out of my dog if he’s in earshot too! Stay safe and thanks for keeping paddling in our souls during lockdown.

    Gorgeous. Pure bliss. Thank you for creating and sharing this. It really slowed me down, brought stillness and peace to me...almost like being there does. Almost.
    So many times while watching I thought, "oh I'll have to comment on/compliment that amazing scene" but then there's be another and another and another... Thank you

    This is great!! This is very much 'ASMR' / a niche for people who like listening to nature/water sounds for its calming effect. I bet if you labelled the video like that ("ASMR 1 Hour of Paddling and Water Noises" etc) you may get a lot of viewers who are looking for that kind of thing!!

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome
      @JasonIrwinTumblehome  4 года назад +1

      @@Richans I guess they are in a way the same... I did a little search and found this
      A stag is a male deer. The term stag can be applied to any adult male member of the deer family, although for some of the largest (such as moose and wapiti), the term ‘bull’ is used more often.
      A moose is Alces alces, the largest member of the deer family. This word is primarily used in North America.
      Now, the term elk is used for Alces alces, in Europe! But in North America, the word ‘elk’ is NOT used for Alces alces at all. Instead it’s used for the wapiti (Cervus canadensis).
      And this is why scientists use Latin names for animals. :-)

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome

      That is Tom Thomson.... at 20:20 I'm just cruising past the large point site that is on the far north end of the lake. One of my fav sites but dont end up there often as its a busy lake most of the time.

    You have amazing footage and sure know how to edit it together.
    I am wondering what settings you're using on your Gopro? And then which program are you using to make it pop like that? If you dont mind.
    Thanks! Keep your art coming.

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome
      @JasonIrwinTumblehome  4 года назад +2

      Thanks man! I'm using a Hero 6 for most of the footage but also use a DSLR sometimes (currently don't have a camera body but have used a 5Dmkii and 6Dmkii). I keep the GoPro in Linear mode to avoid the fisheye look. Lately I'm using Premiere Pro to edit (great program) but have used Avid in the past.
