I remember owning an ancient PC with a very old graphics card. I installed windows 7 on it but when I checked online ,there were only drivers for XP and vista. Then guess what : I installed vista drivers on windows 7 and everything worked fine . Aero worked and I could even run games on it. Windows 7 is basically vista with new wallpapers ,new boot up animations and a new taskbar plus some bug fixes , you can call it vista sp3.
I used Vista from 2007-2009. It worked good, don't remember any problems with it. Most people complained with pc's like P4,512MB ram.... at that time RAM was not cheap like today. Win7 was accepted because most people 2 years later upgraded their pc, and had DX11 support for newer games. Vista's DX10 was ignored, 2-3 games supported it.
RandomBeats I had in 2007 a PC with 2 gb ram, a Nvidia 8600GT or something like that and an amd athlon processor (I forgot its generation). Man, Windows Vista was running perfectly on that PC

UAC Icon (the shield logo is yellow-blue on windows 7) 4. Remote Desktop Connection (there is the satellite dish and computer monitor on Vista icon, while the 7 is the computer monitor with the arrow symbols) 5. Windows media player icon (the vista is darker while the 7 is lighter) 6. The Windows 7's explorer icon (the folder with colored marks, usually on the taskbar) is not available yet in Vista 7. Some system tray icons are looked different or changed in Windows 7 8. Added more pictures in user account picture (some are revised) 9. Windows Photo Viewer icon changed on Windows 7
I really like Windows 7 because of the Aero Glass theme. They too have gadgets but they can be easily moved freely around the desktop. I also do like Windows Vista because they have a lot of features. Their gadgets are like live, where like when the clock moves after logged on. I really like that. Their features looks nice.
i think because is computer in 2007, ram is 512MB for more ppl using, 1GB+ is less ppl using at that time, vista need 1GB+ ram and 16GB+ disk, no have more computer can use aero for no lag at that time, and drive is only for XP, vista code base from server 2003, so you know...
i remember when vista came out, everyone was hating on it because it "ran like crap" on their xp rigs with 2gb of ram. we just happened to have gotten a new pc that year with a whopping 6gb ram and a 4 core athlon 635 and it ran fine, i had no real issues for normal tasks. upgraded it to 7 and my mom and dad used it till they cut 7 support, at which point i decided to put a new i3 in it for them and an ssd.
They hated Vista because their potato PCs can't run it properly. The whole hardware industry back then weren't ready for Vista because it was ahead of its time.

Windows 7 & windows vista are like twins because they have the same features. The same taskbar. The same apps (some of them). The same start menu and more. The only difference between them is that windows 7 was better than it because there were not many bugs & blue screens as usual. Also the wallpaper is different for both and windows vista has the extra right side screen items on the Home Screen.

Windows vista has the problem when you have a machine 5 years or older vista wouldn't recognize the old drivers, the only way to fix these problems were SP 1 and 2. So 7 is better for performance. Everyone here is saying windows vista is better because of the way it looks, not for performance and problems.

And I have done side-by-side experiments like this video on the same specs and have seen that Vista and 7 run at either the same speed or Vista is actually faster in performance terms. Me and my father, who is a Information Technology person did 2 operating system performance tests, the first test was between Windows 7, Windows 8, Apple, and Linux. Windows Seven beat them all hands down, the next test was between every operating system Microsoft developed from Windows 95 on up, still Seven beat them all hands down, Vista on the other hand came in 3rd to last place. However once we put Service pack 1 and 2 on Vista, Vista landed a spot in second place. This performance test took place over a week.
What do you mean by it is not fair, we did this test in 3 stages, first was to the first release, second we added the upgrades, and then the third stage was the final release.

They used to have two Windows Vista laptops, one being an HP G60-125nr and the other being a Toshiba Satellite A205- something. The HP ended up being the survivor, as it was the one with an AMD processor that didn't suck. It also had the help of Nvidia Geforce Go graphics, not much, but better. The Toshiba, on the other hand, ended up disabling Aero Glass, due to the Intel Pentium overheating and just emitting so much heat. The HP G60 also burnt my skin, but at least it was still very fast.
Windows Vista was just a very unique operating system. Windows 10 has no way to disable Aero. Strangely on my computer, it looks like Windows Vista (basic) and I cannot get it to look like what it is supossed to look like.
In the Vista start menu VMWare tools changes the shutdown ad lock buttons that are default in Vista to the standby and lock and also vista has the game "inkball" that windows 7 doesn't have

vista is not better than 7 because there was a rush development called codename longhor, it was a development from xp to vista. But longhorn was very buggy in the 3 years of development, so they had to scrap everything and start over, and they were rushing to the market. 2 years later, vista was released, and one reason it was horrible is because User account control was always popping up, even in the most simplest of tasks (like VLC media player), so it got annoying, so users turned it off. Another reason vista was bad is because, as you said, users running xp really well, couldn't handle vista, so they downgraded back to xp. Most of these reason are because of the rush development of vista. But you know what, he should do a longhorn vs xp vs vista vid as well (sry for the long writing)
Why people like transparent menus and windows I'll never understand. It makes stuff in the foreground harder to read. Maybe you need A.D.D. to be able to appreciate it? Good G.U.I. design started going down hill around the early 2000's. Now it is all about making code as slow and bloated as possible, so you have to upgrade your hardware every couple of years.

Windows Vista and 7 are more or less the same. Except Windows Vista is much prettier looking. But you can get the Vista colors on Windows 7. I have used Windows Server 2008 which is a lighter version Of Windows Vista and seems to run better than Vista. Probably because it came out later than Vista.
i thought vista was really tacky with all the gloss and shine and bubbles, 7 sorta cleaned it up with frosted look. XP still looks better, clean and no BS it just works.

I have done a fresh install of Windows Vista and updated it to service pack 2. I'm trying to install Libreoffice or Openoffice but the installation wizard doesn't start. As you are the only user I know of that uses Windows Vista, could you confirm if you are able to install those programs please? haha
Nevermind. I had to download the latest updates for Vista to make LibreOffice work. Just letting the Windows Update manager search for updates took a very long time.

I am not sure what is the name of the setting in windows 7, but in windows 10, you just right click the taskbar and select taskbar settings and under combine taskbar buttons to change it to when taskbar is full or never in the drop down menu.
agreed my windows vista lasted this long despite falling from the same cabinet at 6 feet and this thing has suffered but is actually faster than our other windows 10 computers lol:3
until today use windows vista when released I bought a copy of the Ultimate x64 at the time in Brazil all used the Windows Vista with memory 512mb ram and I like working with support put 4gb at that time 4gb was for a few pc privileged gamer and even this time I am using Windows Vista !

As soon as my grubby child hands got a hold of a laptop i had been using vista the most. byfar my person favorite appearance wise of all the versions ive seen.
You can’t even make windows 10 look better unlike windows 8,7 and vista. And the themes you can get look terrible because for some reason Microsoft try’s to limit themes on 10. That’s why I stick with windows 8.1, I made it look like 7 but it’s just more updated.

I used windows vista on a Laptop with the same CPU that came with HP G60 and 3GB of RAM. I still own this laptop and he is still with Winvista.
Well i also used Windows Vista in 2009-2010 And it ran great on my medion pc. I never had any problems with it.

i wanna go back to windows 7. in primary (elementary for americans) school all our computers in the computer lab ran on windows 7 and i miss using it so much. so much better than windows 10 or 11
I am not sure what is the name of the setting in windows 7, but in windows 10, you just right click the taskbar and select taskbar settings and under combine taskbar buttons to change it to when taskbar is full or never in the drop down menu.

until today use windows vista when released I bought a copy of the Ultimate x64 at the time in Brazil all used the Windows Vista with memory 512mb ram and I like working with support put 4gb at that time 4gb was for a few pc privileged gamer and even this time I am using Windows Vista !

did you know even until today with windows 10, you actually already have the feature built in to windows is the make the taskbar look like widows vista is the make the icons have all the names listed out.
If you right-click on the taskbar, it has an option where you can put your windows side by side.'

You can’t even make windows 10 look better unlike windows 8,7 and vista. And the themes you can get look terrible because for some reason Microsoft try’s to limit themes on 10. That’s why I stick with windows 8.1, I made it look like 7 but it’s just more updated.
