    Interesting to see on almost every test there's an initial suspension and tire compression, when the tire rebounds it continues compressing the shock (and I assume inertia within the system); then there's a moment where the system goes static as the tire begins to compress again, finally there is the full compression of the shock. I suppose this speaks A LOT to tire pressure, unsprung mass and damping. Would be really cool to see if it's possible to eliminate the phenomenon, and then test the effectiveness of application to true trail situations to see if, say, traction is improved. Wonder if a foam core that compresses under initial increase of tire pressure, but takes a second or so to "re-inflate" could work as damping for the tire to minimise the bouncing effect.

    • @stefans.8672
      @stefans.8672 3 года назад +3

      They pump up the tire to a higher pressure and run inserts when making these vids. Under normal circumstances this strange behavior, hurting the eyes of people who understand what they are watching, should not occur. Compression damping of the shock is in parts rebound damping for the tire. With tires blown up to volleyball pressures there is nothing it can do ot compe with the carnage.

      @steveaustin5344 2 года назад +1

      Josh, I like your analysis. Do you think the front fork rebound looks a bit too fast in most of these? I think having more rebound damping would be easier on the ability to keep control. And easier on his back. Look how he has to compensate for the front fork rebound shooting up whilst his body is still moving down. A more fluid movement would be better I think. Great vid. I watched it a few times at half speed.

      Most of these go to half compression when just pedaling around lmao. Anything more than a 3ft drop and top tier DH bikes bottom out from the factory. Needs them WAY oversprung even for a lightweight rider.

    Super interesting video. Surprising how many of the forks bind up before actually bottoming out. There are obviously a lot of issues with the drive train and suspension. • @jeromep4148
    @jeromep4148 4 года назад +11

    This is really fascinating. It looks like the front and rear begin compressing in tandem, then at the half way point, the front compression pauses for a bit then resumes compressing. The rider compression seems to begin when the bike has no more to give. The rider looks like the sequence is knees, followed by hips, followed by lower back, followed by neck head drop. Would like to see one bike compression sequence expanded in almost a frame by frame sequence. Not sure what this means but it is certainly very interesting.

    I have no clue what number of owner I am, but I picked it up for $60 at a pawn shop, and all it needed was new ceramic brake shoes.
    I've replaced 2 sets of brake shoes, 2 inner tubes, a couple of spokes, 1 kmc chain, and a easy release skewer in the back axle in the 4.5 years I've owned it.

      hard tails due to their lack of rear suspension need to be toughened up at the back or at the very least have it so that the load is spread across the whole back or multiple parts and not focused in one area

    • @markvincentcocjin
      @markvincentcocjin 4 года назад

      Yeah. At first, I thought that forcing an aluminum welded joint to flex where a bearing pivot should have been was poor engineering.
      But then I saw that the "seatstay" or flex stay flexed only just a little made me think that the engineers probably designed it where it never got past the material's acceptable flexing.
      But only time will tell I guess.

I can imagine the rider went slightly easier on it though but it still was great to see, I weigh like 155lbs so for me its not a huge issue about worrying if I can break the frame or whatever and ive talked to people who have heard of the frame breaking but seeing how well it did made me happy.
