You sure about the compression? My 393 with flat tops, 3.850 stroke and 59cc chamber is really close to 12-1. It made 626hp on a Superflow without the vacuum pump. I know the pistons are dished, but they sure didn’t look that big. Maybe the heads have large chambers though.
Never heard of mixing 2 different bearing sizes to shrink the hole up. Seems like it would leave a lip. I’m not an engine builder tho. I do have a couple sbf engines. Both 427 one dart one world products block. One w trickflow 240 heads and the other with sc1 heads/Yates. Got a tremec behind the trick flow headed motor in a 93 coupe, badass. Power glide behind the sc1 motor in 88 gt, very much badass! Love the fords man
Very interesting video, Kyle...Nice to see Tyler...Always fun to see Steve stop by to prod you a little...You will definitely be the future Morris Racing engine guy...Great crew in the shop...Fun to watch the interaction
Dude! Definitely keeps us in the loop with this one! I've been very recently debating what to do with my Vortech blown Foxbody Crushstang since a large tree fell on it and have been considering a Ranger as a transplant recipient. Your video just may have pushed me in that direction! I have so many questions and I will be following along for sure!
Tremec 6 speed is hard to beat, Jay Lenos favorite,LOL Bed sides couple spot welds and make some struts and you can pull the whole side 3-4 inches and really looks cool when dumped over the tires.
When you were checking that SBF crank on the balance machine, reminded me of when I placed an incorrect flywheel on my 351 Cleveland. Found out quick it was incorrect; by RPM'ing a little above idle. Back then, simply ran to my usual Ford parts dealer, ordered the correct flywheel. What a; (only Ford), learning moment. Blast to watch here, this classic being built by you.
When you torque something, you should hit it twice! With two bolts, you should hit the first bolt then the second bolt then back to the first, then the second bolt Love the content!
My understanding of a small block ford is there 28oz or 50oz balancers and on an internal balance crank you would remove the weight off the balancer as the ford Motorsport balancer you can remove the weight or even change between the two 🤔interesting seeing you guys check it and how it’s done ✅
I highly recommend the Modshop Metalwerks weld in roll pan. It fits perfectly. I installed one on my 2007 Ranger. It has the proper contour for the curved back end of this generation of Ranger.
11.25.01 compression 582 / 459 Torque Built one Cid 408 Windsor one really close to what yours is Cam 597 lift 308 Direction Mine was E85, Carburer 850 cfm. 36 timing
YESSSS I agree the way Kyle lays everything out in mechanical succession gives my OCD a chubby. It literally keeps my heart rate at its normal rpm. Which allows me to work comfortably.
Always wanted a Frankenstein motor to put in my little ranger! Maybe, one day! Cool to see the ol windsor getting put to good use! I guess 525hp and 465ft/lbs of torque!
Great video. All the factory 351W engines were 28oz balance. For 302 engines, they can be either 28oz or 50oz balance. All 302s were also 280z balance, until Ford changed them to 50oz balance in approx. 1981; crankshaft change. The two balances cause some major confusion/vibration problems, if parts get mix-matched. Some aftermarket parts (flywheels, harmonic balancers) for the SBF have changeable weights for both 28oz and 50oz balance. I am going to guess 487hp & 485 torque. If 9.1:1, needs more compression.
15:38 An external counterweighted balancer ABSOLUTELY has to be completely installed in this process, since that "imbalance" will have a much greater effect being farther away from the crankshaft counterweight.
Jimmy dale for the nitrous ! Set it up with a fogger and it will hold A 400 shot easy progressive .06 then ramp inn 25% then hold 80 % though out the entire run ! And yes this has been done one to many time inn Texas !
Man I didn't even know you had a older brother Kyle, that's awesome me and my older brother are like best friends even though I'm in Florida and he's back in California! Love the family content. And me and my brother are hard core Ford guys haha
The Morris shop needs some crane coverage. Half to 1 ton would be a great plenty. Longer crane bays to help with staging those blocks. Fork trucks take two people and are more prone to “woops” accidents.
I wouldn't use the HV pump, standard pump is more than enough. cant wait to see it in the truck and what headers you will use and clearance for the oil filter. keep up the good work. 545 hp
I have a 2023 Ford Maverick that has all forged internals from the Focus ST and AWD and it's grey on black wheels (like the ranger) and my goal is to make a little street truck as well. A LOT less fabrication, but bolt on's. I'm excited to see what you guys do, because I don't have a clue what to do to trucks...
So when you do two different halves of bearings how’s that work is it for oil flow Or how does that make the gap bigger? Something about circles I’m not understanding?
When I built my mustang a couple yrs ago 347 stroker mine was a aod auto n I changed it to a tremic tko 5 speed n updated the sycros in it ran good oil n additive n man let it ripped on the road first with a c4 then changed it back to manual with the TKO N man I had a lot of fun. Mine was original auto built a T5 n never had problems with it, used the black cobra gears n carbon fiber syncs n short throw shifter n it was fun, but man with that built 347 n that tko it was even better, always speed shifted n they are easy to go thru also imo. I'm building a 408 or 410 right now but looking for a block for it. I have a nice 74 block but will need bored out. But would rather have a after market one, cause I'm using a built novi 2000 charger n going all out on heads n all. Also goin blow thru just for now n I'm not too familiar with blow thru, so it's goin to be a good lesson till I go holly or fuel tech 😂 . I have had plenty of friends with rangers built n they had fun with them. Love y'all videos n stuff n absolutely love learning new things you do, like machine work honestly learning a lot there. Thanks y'all n be careful, much love from Tennessee..
Pls allow me to preface this, I’ve been a prototype CNC Machinist/Engineer 45+ yrs. So when you use 2 different Conrod bearings, doesn’t this make the hole out of round for the crank? Are you hand honing these to size? I’ve always used oversized bearing and honed on the Sunnen hone. Teach me please?
Very nice. But can we all work together to end the "Small Block Ford".... name designation. Ford Motor Company did not use Small Block or Big Block to designate their engines like Chevrolet did. Just trying to keep it accurate.
The bad thing about balancing it with the flywheel would be, if you needed a new flywheel, now you need to balance everything again. Am I correct in that thought process?
14:15 the way Kyle lays stuff out all geometrically and precise makes my OCD happy. Finally another perfectionist! You're the man Kyle! 😅
Love seeing family build projects... Pretty exciting to me a Ford ranger build!!!
A family that plays together , stays together !
That’s what we say in Arkansas😂.
Just kidding……😅
Nice! Add another Morris into the mix. Love the content Kyle keep it coming
Glad to see you helping your brother guna be fun truck later
Nice to see your oldest son getting more involved.
His brother you mean. This is Kyles channel not Steves.
His father was filming.
Probably gonna see their sister sometime too. Steve said sugar momma is gonna be her car now because she wants to race
So cool seeing the guys hanging out working on the Ranger!! Bring it on a drag and drive with us. !!!
Awesome to see family come together.
506 hp 492 torque
Why so low torque
Love this episode! Thanks for sharing!!
408 sbf, 9:1 compression, Dart Pro1 heads, aggressive cam, super victor intake, on pump gas and MAYBE e85
Perfect for forced induction 9:1 is perfect for some nice turbos or a big kit and hopefully down the road it being a 4wd drag setup sbf.
I have 408 LS in my suburban
Why no boost? Nice little turbo for the win.

529 hp 408 tq ..great fun trans choice Tyler! Enjoy the build and the drive! Miles of smiles!
Why so low torque

519 HP/483 T is my guess. Fantastic vid Kyle. Hope the dyno run goes great for you and your brother, sweet looking truck!
Starting to watch kyle more than dad.. lol. Your the man..✌️
Love it. What really makes you all rich is you all stick together as family. GREAT WORK SME FAMILY
What’s up Kyle, that’s pretty cool of you helping your brother 👍
Thts awesome set up and for tht ranger beautiful engine I'm gonna say 478hp
Tremec 6 speed is hard to beat, Jay Lenos favorite,LOL Bed sides couple spot welds and make some struts and you can pull the whole side 3-4 inches and really looks cool when dumped over the tires.

508 hp, 525 tq. I want the wagon you painted keep the motor.lol 😊 great videos keep it up !
YESSSS I agree the way Kyle lays everything out in mechanical succession gives my OCD a chubby. It literally keeps my heart rate at its normal rpm. Which allows me to work comfortably.
Hail yeah I love an old shelf engine build can’t wait to see it on the dyno and in the truck it’s going to rip
That boy looks a little like Paul Walker. Good looking son Steve and Kyle.
Great content thanks for sharing
@21:17 Steves face when you suggest spraying it, lmao
Well, get it to the Fab shop for a cage & a Fab 9! Huge potential here!
Always wanted a Frankenstein motor to put in my little ranger! Maybe, one day! Cool to see the ol windsor getting put to good use! I guess 525hp and 465ft/lbs of torque!

Thanks for the info! Good to know for future stock block builds
brings back memories, i had a '96. loved the truck hated the transmission.
When lifting with your back be sure to twist at the same time and hunch to one side👍🏻
@@baddaddy8718 you have to stretch out those ligaments 🫡
Good piston for a power adder
I’ve got a mild built 302 (heads cam intake) on pump gas. It’s on a megasquirt. Is 35deg too much total timing?
15:38 An external counterweighted balancer ABSOLUTELY has to be completely installed in this process, since that "imbalance" will have a much greater effect being farther away from the crankshaft counterweight.

With the 460 you offset grind the cam and use a mopar rod and certain block, you end up with 500 and something cubic inches!
Love and appreciate the ford content!!
Man I didn't even know you had a older brother Kyle, that's awesome me and my older brother are like best friends even though I'm in Florida and he's back in California! Love the family content. And me and my brother are hard core Ford guys haha
Kyle keep it going great videos.
450 HP / 470 FT.LBS 🤔 need a little spray to get over the hump. Love this project.👍
Why so low
565 👍's up Kyle Morris thank you for sharing 🤗
Nice build. 486 hp/ 460 tq
The Morris shop needs some crane coverage. Half to 1 ton would be a great plenty. Longer crane bays to help with staging those blocks.
Fork trucks take two people and are more prone to “woops” accidents.
Nice. Love the channel. Keep up the good work
You're a good brother.... I did something similar for my big brother too.
I recommend 11.5 compression pistons
That little freeze plug on the oil crossover flows more oil if u install it upside down the way u have it flow is restricted
Awesome video again 👏...keep living the dream ✨️
The lik bro makin a sweet motor for the big bro 👌. 545hp@6500rpm, 504lb/ft@4200rpm.
546hp 439 tq
Nice to use up some old parts and give it to your brother
For 40 years I thought it was wee-and ,what you can learn for the SMX boys 🇨🇦🇺🇲
I wouldn't use the HV pump, standard pump is more than enough. cant wait to see it in the truck and what headers you will use and clearance for the oil filter. keep up the good work. 545 hp
Great work (600 HP)
Nice combo 485hp 450tq i think more cam and rpm needed to get 500+ hp or 150 shot nos.
I have a 2023 Ford Maverick that has all forged internals from the Focus ST and AWD and it's grey on black wheels (like the ranger) and my goal is to make a little street truck as well. 'Say Why-And' has been on intakes when your dad was a kid 😉
Nice to see ford engines
Love to see all the ford guys in here lets goooooo. 1990 foxbody 347 gt40p heads and a votech v3 made 400hp 450 ft lbs i need better heads.
Better heads and more boost
Hey Kyle - when or if do you use a rod bolt stretch gauge? - PS love the Wagon Paint Job 😎
I think its cool you are staying old school ford like your sn95 vs going LS or yote.
Way to take care of family.
So when you do two different halves of bearings how’s that work is it for oil flow Or how does that make the gap bigger? Something about circles I’m not understanding?
568hp and 504tq . I have faith in the Blue Oval !
T56 Magnum in there would be easy and gold power well, can always step up to the TKO.
Also they make diff colored 5 speed speedo gears for what gear your wanting to use. Just thout I would add that in case you didn't kn buddy.
The Black Sheep of the family shows up. Ask me how I know, because I am the same guy in my family. Lol
Hehe. I spotted it too lol.
I got those vibes too 😂
Us black sheep’s can always tell
WERE THE BLACK SHEEP OF THE FAMILYYYYYYY great country song haha
my dad always said I was the black sheep of the family you in good company brother.
BUILT ford TOUGH 👊🏽WITH "CHEVY" STUFF!!!
CD009 is a decent box.
Pls allow me to preface this, I’ve been a prototype CNC Machinist/Engineer 45+ yrs. So when you use 2 different Conrod bearings, doesn’t this make the hole out of round for the crank? Super cool build!!
And a SBF powered!!!
Gonna be sick!!!
Great build Kyle!!
Tremec TKX - holds 600#ft, compact and light. Shifts like butter.
552hp /518tq . Regardless with the 5-speed, that thing is going to be a blast to drive on the street.
Flip it and you aced it
Love a v8 ford f’in ranger!!!!
525 hp @ 6200 520 torque @ 4900. With 32 degrees of timing on 91.
Family is the main thing
Just found your guys channel . Great content in here . Curious on what color is on the ranger ?
It'll make LOTS, 'cause that's what you guys do!
491 hp 546 ft lb. I don't recommend using a high- volume oil pump on a Ford Windsor block it will destroy the distributor gear.
Tyler looks like he beat both of you two to 315!
Grey area, or Great Area depending.....?
It’s going to make 440 hp on pump gas 😮
YES! I need one of those for my Ranger! But my wife said no...😞
I Always leave the Timing cover & water pump bare Aluminum, I don't like to paint Aluminum engine parts. I say 478HP.
475HP & 425TQ GIMME - orange SM hat. 😃Cheers!
If that combination makes over 550 horsepower I want one
I remember steve driving this around lol.
510 first hit!
19:08 Why do you have a 50 in/oz balancer on that crank? The 28 in/oz balancer would have been much closer.
540/510😊
when in doubt turbo charge the crap out of it it's what your shop does best
Does Tyler work at Steve Morris engine
Tyler looks so much like Steve well both of them really
Workmans comp my back 😂😂
I think it should be entered into the danger ranger race!
