What's so unbelievable is that corps put these shows together in a very short amount of time. They get most of the music in advance a couple of months max. They only begin field work about 10 weeks before what we see here at finals.
I love to watch you learn! In the beginning section, you asked if that could be considered a company front. The answer is no. It is an asymmetrical form. From the captions I judge, I would have had them in 3rd. But that’s why they double-panel the judges for each caption so that you can get a true average.
I think it was the cymbals making that "swoosh" sound. One of my sons is a percussionist (which is more than just a drummer) and he can get some amazing sounds of cymbals.
Wonderful. And kudo's to those creative minds that come up with the show concepts, overall design look and music adaptations. How do they dream this all up.
A company front is a single line, side to side. Technically it should be everyone who is on the field but with the size of today's corps that's impossible so it usually will refer to the complete horn line being in one single line side to side. The battery and guard will be elsewhere, usually behind.
Synth wayyyyy too heavy on the FloMarching recording. This hornline is so great but they get washed out on big hits. Regardless, an amazing reaction to an amazing show!
What did you think of the SCV and Bluecoats with their final climaxes overpowered by synth theremins? I hardly even noticed any synth with Crown. Live in Indianapolis at least.
A) the mandarins show is brilliant B) You noticed the rocks having changed from the amber colors to the golden colors but also the fire atop the mountain changes to pure gold at the end of the show too which is insane to me yea I was supposed to see this show live in Canton along with the rest of the top corps, unfortunately one of their equipment trucks didn't make the trip due a medical emergency so they had to do it as a standstill. Was disappointed for them, but it was still great to hear the show
and we watched the whole season as the TOrch/base slowly began to be painted like the giant rocks, and we didnt get an actual "Flame" until the last two weeks, and only foe Indy did the Golden Flame debut/
I really enjoyed this show. While there's certainly some criticisms to be had towards the design of this show (especially from a lot of us nerds), it's still such a powerful, and unmistakably Crown show! Got to see this one in person, and their hornline brings a sort of power that just truly stands out against all of the other corps, even on years they don't win the Ott. they have such an unforgettable sound! In my recording of their closer at my local show, you can hear my raw reaction to that impact at 15:10 as they debuted this closer that night. And it was truly insane and it caught me off guard lol! (at 1:29 in my recording)
Unbelievable. How this show and performance didnt score to put it in at least third is a mystery to me. But whatever. No one had these absolutely epic arrangements and fff resolutions . Impeccable music throughout. Rare. Thanks for the video! Beautiful job commenting.
Charlie spoke about the same issue I had, and that undoubtedly allowed PR to pass them: a sense of vagueness and searching by the viewer trying to connect the marching and music to the story... PR had 5 clear phases of stages of a mental progression, starting with the moody, pensive Sonata, then "Surfacing" as one emerges form that mental cocoon into a slightly chaotic active mood."Equilibrium" for the ballad and that representiation of all parts of the mind coming together and focusing in that magnificent staggered work from the horns in the cages. Then comes the frenetic chaos of "Fly or Die" [fright/flight analogy), shifting into the staccato percussion of Pillars II, and as the mind blossoms in orderly fashion all the energy bursts forth in the finale of more SOnata. I saw the music listed in so many streams and within a week or two at the season beginning, and it clicked with me by the second week. Crown struggled in the early part of the tour, and slowly they began to hone and adjust things. It almost felt as those the music was chosen first in whatever creative vision, and then the drill designer was told to come up wiht something that tied into the myth, but it was damn hard to make any connection, unless one knew about the music being used, It wasnt until Prometheus got chained up that it finally began to be clear. That simply allowed this brilliantly executed program to be out-designed this year. Blue Devils got the same issue - brilliant show, falwless execution , but BLoo and BAC had better designed shows.
@ZakhadWOW No arguments there. I thought PR was awesome as well, of course. I did not like the way 8 brass players had to put down their horns at the end to spin a cube. I didn't mind not making any big storyline connection with Crown. The fire element came through fine. It was Coats that lost me. Change is Everything? That still remains over my head. And I don't get how Bloo won Visual over Boston. Next year will be epic. BD will be back with a vengeance. And I'm certain BAC is up to another unique creation. But so is Bloo. My nephew is in BAC so I'm slightly biased. And both Crown and PR are on a musical high point. It will be another extremely close season next year, again.
Is it safe to assume someone already told you about Jacob Collier's recent video of the performance and transcription of World O World, but you simply haven't gotten to it yet? If not, and nobody has mentioned it, would you consider covering it?
@Iliketordles could be, very similar shows, but I feel like I remember someone talking about the Prometheus story, maybe it was just me trying to explain it to my watch party😂
Hey Charlie! Love your reactions! If you ever get requests for DCI videos that aren't on RUclips or are low resolution on RUclips, feel free to contact me and I can hook you up with them! I can almost guarantee I'll have the show you're needing 😀
Prometheus gave humanity the gift of fire. Zeus punished him by chaining him to Mt. Olympus and having eagles peck out his liver for all eternity.
You know the drill....🤣
The fact that you haven't done Troopers 2024 is CRIMINAL.
I have to agree 💯👍
then request it on patron
I was listening to the percussion score of this show right as you posted this! Thanks for fitting in so much DCI content!
“What’s good planet Earth” I love this please never stop using this phrase
Great reaction Charlie!!! Proud to say my son marched in this show!

It comes with DOING and experience. Year after year. As with anything, I would surmise.
Sonically, this was sooooo meaty! That 16:30 mark...my heart left my body!
I know the judges were rethinking life with this year's shows! Soooo good!
if a sound effect doesn't sound like it can come from an instrument, it's most likely coming from the synth player
Need to get you here to the states for DCI finals and then a stop in Utah for the choir.
Flame sounds are effects from the front ensemble.

Bro, you really need to react to Carolina Crown 2018. It is easily one of if not my favorite show.
Synth wayyyyy too heavy on the FloMarching recording. This hornline is so great but they get washed out on big hits.
Regardless, an amazing reaction to an amazing show!
Too many corps amping-up low-end synth covering the acoustic tubas. Nothing new.
The other 2024 recordings aren’t as heavy. It feels like crown needs to pull back in the synth volume department.
What did you think of the SCV and Bluecoats with their final climaxes overpowered by synth theremins? I hardly even noticed any synth with Crown. Live in Indianapolis at least.
It’s loud irl too lol they gotta turn the bass down right?
In person it sounded Glorious!!!!

Dig back and watch 1989 Santa Clara Vanguard. It's a different animal from what you've been watching!
Did anyone else see one of the marchers fall to the left on the 50 at 16:35? Poor guy :(
I need to see 2017 blue devils reaction
You should do Blue stars 2024 next. It’s such a good show
Someone please request 2014 or 2016 Bluecoats

I have an idea for a reaction video: listen to "My God, My Portion, and My Love" by the Tabernacle Choir. It's such a beautiful arrangement!
Next Sunday please react to Benjamin Dube elshadai adonai.....never disappointing 🎷🥁
Again! 😆
IM SO EARLY LETS GOOOO

Just unforgettable tbh. Members are obviously talented

I got a pretzel while they performed at finals. Crown's shows have been getting less and less engaging every year since 2017.
