Oh and the 10 is so good.
Nice review, Alan, and a quality, very enjoyable whisky. I still think Ralfy captured this whisky very well a few years ago when he noted it's "old fashioned" combination of, and balance between, the sour and the bitter. That probably doesn't sound attractive to our often sugar-obsessed minds/palates, but it really is a delicious combination, here. Of course there's heaps of sweetly fruity flavours, and more particularly aromas, in this whisky, but the balance and freshness on the finish is sour-bitter in the best way. It doesn't taste mainly of grapefruit but resembles such in that delightful combination.
It was WelshToro who very kindly put me onto Glencadam 13--which I perhaps like even slightly more than this 15, and it's a touch more affordable, too. I believe it was created at a time when Glencadam were temporarily unable to release a 15 due to their short-term closure in the past. It's quite similar to the 15 but has slightly less fruit purity, slightly less richness and density but a little bit more interest from a gentle dunnage warehouse character--musty and dank but fascinating. That's at least the case with the 13 batch 3. I've yet to try a batch 4 or pick up a batch 5.
And once again, my shopping list just grew, thanks to you my friend. Thank you for the candid remarks. Cheers All!
Great review Alan really enjoyed this one. Cheers mate
A good re-visiting series Alan.Glencadam, 15 years old, ex bourbon matured. Right up my street. A great dram, Slàinte Alan🥃
Loads of Expressions in that one!! So glad your revisiting some of these Bottles!!
Alan, have only had their 10 year and love the bright and refreshing notes. Cheers!
Delicious integrity dram! So underrated and I am glad! Just sippin' on this last night. At $75, I'm buying this over the Glen Scotia 15 and truly enjoy it more.
I only have the Glencadam 10, so I must try the 15 now. Hey Alan, what about reviewing the Glenfarclas 15 or Knockando 15 or 18 , they are not expensive. Take care!
Nice one Alan. I've not had Glencadam for 4 or 5 years so it's a good time to revisit.
A dram worth revisiting, Alan.
Thanks for shining a light.
Slàinte mhath
Love the 15 year, would love to see you review the new 18 year.
Great review Alan. Not nearly enough of this type of release on the market, way too many sub standard Sherry cask releases 😉
Lovely stuff. Slainte!
I’ve got the Glencadam 10 and it’s already my favourite unfinished whisky. Your description of the 15 was pretty much exactly how I would describe the 10, (light, fresh, grassy, apples, tropical fruits, a hint of spice, etc).
How would you compare the 10 with the 15? Are the flavours simply more rounded and intense or have they evolved and grown more complex?
I’m keen to understand if the 15 is in the running to replace the 10 in my unfinished whisky top spot. 🙂
The extra 5 years really show up in the 15 its just more complex and interesting...if your a fan of the 10 ...i dont think you would be disappointed with the 15...well done Glencadam...😜🥃🤝
@@thewhiskyfriend brilliant - many thanks Alan. Soon as I’ve killed a bottle and made space in my cabinet, this will be my next purchase. 🙂
great dram did you know it tastes better with a Gavs shuggle
I have heard that said somwhere before Gav..😜 you keeping well fella now that your a full time youtuber...😜🥃
