My fan blades had dust caked on. First time opening the PS4 since we got it (had to be over 5 years). I couldn't get the stuff off, so I tried removing the fan and soaking it in 91% isopropyl alcohol. The stuff practically melted off! I still had to take a reusable straw cleaning brush and clean between the blades, but I didn't think it would work as well as it did. Thank you for this tutorial! It saved another PS4 from getting thrown out.

I tried taking pictures of most of the teardown, but forgot to get a Pic of the screws that he'll in the fan. Were they Phillips or the Torx?

Thank you so much, this tutorial gave me the confidence to finally attempt the surgery on my old friend and it was a great success. The power source cable on the board was the hardest part for me but it went very smoothly from there. Good camera work and step by step.
For anyone attempting it take your time, and two mistakes I found in other comments: around 8:00 there's a black screw on the mother board near the wifi antenna connector, take it off before flipping it. And the blue strip connector on your disk reader, push the metal connector DOWN gently to unplug it. Other than that perfect video.

My ps4 is almost 10 years old and I have long since upgraded to the ps5. However, my son (5) uses the ps4 to play NASCAR and Monster Jam. Over the years the ps4 has gotten progressively louder and warmer. Yesterday we noticed it would turn on, but we couldn't go past the sign-in screen. I used this video to tear apart the console and clean out all of the dust and grime. I put it back together and it is so quite and works great, Thanks a ton! This is an older video, but it was still so useful for me.

I used a metal mechanics parts holder. Looks almost like a little stainless steel dog food bowl and it has a magnet on the bottom. They are inexpensive and can be found in different sizes of round or rectangular. Wally world and car parts houses carry them. Other large parts were stored starting with the bottom of the PS4 on bottom and stacking them carefully.

So thank you I like you said "once you take off this the gel will need to be replaced" ok not exact quote but you know what I mean. Only thing I note different that I have seen is when adding the new gel I've seen people cover the chip with a plastic tool, card what not that's the only thing I've seen any different but I just did my PS4 from this video thanks again

I bought the same model. (Refurbished EB Games) it had matte plastic wrap on it I peeled off. And underneath it some scratches, as well as the front and sides of the console. Indicating some one took apart to clean and fix whatever was wrong with it. And try to cover it up by placing wrap on it. Still work s like a dream and only minor cosmetic scratches. And software glitches

Thanks a lot friend! I've cleaned my dirty PS4 with your tutorial, and on the finish i have only two screws left :P They maybe left because slight difference with your PS4, and my PS4. Anyway, ma console is now clean, and fully working, so this two little bastards won't be a problem :)

The three beeps indicates that you have a problem. Kind of like the "Check Engine" light in a car. See if anything shows up on the TV screen that it's connected to and watch the light on your console. Is it white, blue, etc. You should be able to get more info by googling the symptoms.

The lighting might make it look different than it is but that is just the surface of the cleaned heat sync. There is no other material on top of it.

Thanks. I use Arctic Silver. Same stuff that goes on CPUs. You can find it at Fry's Electronics or online at Ebay or Amazon.

What do i do about the metal in the center of each screw head preventing me from disassembling?

Sounds like you are attempting to use a regular Torx screwdriver. The PS4 has Torx security screws and there is a driver that has a hole in the center for that reason. I have product links in the video description but you can also usually find one at a hardware or auto parts supply store.

@@GoCellPhoneRepair Yeah, I realized this, dumb mistake on my part. Thank you for the quick response, though. And I subbed for the amazing tutorial. Hopefully, you have one on the ps5 also.
