    Love the fact that you took the time to share this with everyone. I recently got a 2006 radio for 8 bucks. Put it in my 2002 GMC Envoy and it says locked. Not ready to yank a chip out of the board just yet and am doing my research on how to unlock them. So far nothing has worked short of yanking the onboard chip. Still searching. Just wanted to thank you for sharing the information.

    you're 100% correct. The two chips (ic's) must be configured as you mentioned. I went through 3 delco radios before I found one configured vertically & it worked great. Mine was also the RDS radio. Thanks for your follow up video explaining in more detail.

    Great video. I had a third kind of circuit board though; same faceplate. It had 2 8-prong chips one it the corner by the wiring and one more central. Found that removing the one by the wiring gave the same result; a working radio with presets that done save, and just the calabration note.
    Thanks for putting up this video

    I thank you for saving me from bricking a radio. I picked up one of these and watched this before removing the chip. I will put it in the parts is parts pile and if my attempts on the other radios I picked up fail and I end up taking this version into the dealer.

    In my case I had the old radio however for some reason the radio tuner no longer worked. I was able to remove the Eprom chip from the original radio and solder it in the replacement radio I found in a junk yard. It works just like new without paying dealer to reprogram!

    FYI I have swapped in 2 radios into my 2003 Monte Carlo by grabbing the BCM from the donor vehicle and relearning the BCM to my vehicle(procedure on the web)
    Make sure donor vehicle has same options as yours(ex.foglights,etc.) So those options continue to work.(the radio WILL work,but only the options programmed for the donor vehicle will work) So, if you have a M/C SS it is BEST to acquire the BCM and radio from another M/C SS...

    Have you tried using eeprom programmer and zero the EPROMs. When you plug it back in vehicle they relearn. Also read the EPROMs when you tamper with them compare data and you will see the section changes that causes the error. Rewrite the EPROMs back and radio is ok again.

    Hello!
    Rds with chips not aligned. On signal wire was small OR right below lg OR positive wire.
    Disconnected all power leads. Put 12volts across on signal wire + and frame of radio -. Then reversed them. I had hoped to wipe the eeprom memory by running a charge through it. (Without burning any thing else).
    Cal Err comes up when it first comes on. Other than that all works on all settings. Had to reset station presets but they came up fine. Can not test the tape deck, so don't know about it.

    • @johnleigh1709
      @johnleigh1709 Год назад

      I might add that I went through three radios and two weeks before I arrived at this. When it did work It happened so fast I couldn't believe it. Keep checking the radio and it keeps working! When I touched the wires to clear the eeprom they were powered so there was a spark. Held them in place for maybe a second.

    Thank you for the info, wonder if a chip swap would work. I have a Tape Deck only that does not work (radio works, just no longer plays tapes) and a CD player version from a junk car. Have not looked at the inside, both radios have a 2001 manufacture date (cars are an 05 w/tape and an 02 w/cd). Just don't want to end up with no radio at all.

  • @leviwoodring6101

    Ok I k ow this is an older video but if any one is reading the comment here's what I did. This is for the 6 cd player radio btw. I got one that was locked from the junkyard like most people do. Removed the eprom chip. Made it work but with the same defects as you state. Diceded I could not live with it like that. Bought a mother 6 cd radio figured out would be locked. Plugged it in and it just worked. No err. Code or anything. Eprom chip still in tacked. Not shure if I just got lucky or what. By my theory is that when I removed the eprom chip from the first radio it confuse the bcm or what ever the radio takes to to see if it's the same vin. Then when I installed the second radio it thought it was the first radio and rewrote the vin to mine. not super shure on how it works or if that even possible But I got a 6 cd radio in work truck now and did not have to get if flashed. That's alot.

    Johanna,
    I may have the same radio. Mine came out of a 2006 GMC pickup. I looks the same but does not have RDS on it. It did have a chip in the location of some (near center) but it had a different number on it. I removed it and it still will only play a few minutes when I hold 5 and >and turn it on. I do get the error and occasionally the tape arrow points to the CD. This radio only has the speaker wires, a ground (black w/white) and a large and a small orange wire. Looking at the back of the radio the larger orange wire is left top and the smaller is L/bottom. In another video a guy showed how to move a wire over beside the left top + wire but it was one hole to the right on top also they were different colors. (red and yellow I think) Let me know what you think or maybe someone else will see this and help.

    Replacing an RDS radio in 2003 S-10 Blazer. Doner out of 2004 Taho. Initial install said locked...watched video & removed the chip (newer version center of board). Now radio won't power up. The Doner radio does not say RDS on its face but looks identical. Also, the Tahoe had a 2nd plug going into the smaller recepticle. Any suggestions to do next?

    Just wanted to share that you can unlock the Class II RDS with some caviots and this is how I accomplished it I will make a video as proof If You Have Class 1(second Radio you displayed) and you take the EEPROM Chip out of Your Current Vehicle Radio mines was Class 1 and insert the chip into the RDS model it will work almost factory you have radio at ignition it will even REMEMBER radio presets and EQ and you can unplug and replug it and it will STILL Remember them does not remember clock/time and it knows when I tape is inserted or not (cassete idicator turns off and on on eject or insert) security light will not flash but for some reason when you first turn on the radio you will get a CAL ERR at boot for 1-3 seconds then normal but it is very important to note that both radios in my case we're from the same vehicle lines they were both chevy express radios one from a 2001 and one from a 2003. radio was being installed into 2001 Chevy express I do not know if this will work with examples of (Chevy/Saturn) or (Impala/Malibu if that makes sense but if your situation is similar to mines this should work also my EEPROM Chip is located towards the center on my board but as far as I know I got a legit factory radio unlock for free without going to dealership and it remembers my presets( Big Deal) simply removing the chip will make the work but it will not retain any memory

    I have a question. I have a non RDS radio just like the second one you showed (the one found in cheaper models like the cavalier, which is what I have) that is locked. Are you saying that the base model radios don't have the right chip to remove?

  • @kt7206

    my CD player says LOC I bought it for my 2000 cavalier,it came out of another cavalier.It is the correct CD player for my car.so if I remove the chip will this possibly work on mine? my CD player looks like the one you have in the video that says error.

      +Kim Thomason Nope. That is an older style Theftlock radio. do a search for how to unlock those, and follow the instructions. It's much simpler and only requires a simple code to be input in to the radio two times to unlock it.

    I have a similar unit (minus the tape deck) and it doesnt have the "blue" connector that I can only assume hooked to your tape deck? I'd like to solder into that feed on the board to add aux input in place of the (non existant, in my case) tape deck.

    hi. I have An original radio from a 2004 Buick LeSabre. been trying to override the theft lock but with no luck. I followed your directions and I removed the first chip on the board like you said and the chips were not vertical so I knew it was okay to remove the first chip. after removing that ship the radio still did not work it was still locked and I still have to press FWD seek + preset 5 + power for it to turn on for 10 minutes. so basically I'm still locked out. any ideas? thanks.

    • @BruisersBeaters
      @BruisersBeaters  8 лет назад

      That's because it's a different kind of radio. Older Theftlock radios simply need a code to unlock. Do a simple search on RUclips for how to unlock a GM Threftlock radio, and follow the instructions on how to do it, and follow the procedure. There is an automated 800 number you call, use the dealer code 106020, then pound in the 6 digit code the video will have explained how to get from your radio.
      ruclips.net/video/1AVQZk8-qs4/видео.html
      This should work in your Cadillac, as well.
      If not, time to call a couple scrap yards and seek a replacement, something else is wrong with the radio. Typically they can be had good working, used from $20 to $50 from a scrapper.
