This old man has tried everything under the sun, the car dealer wanted 250 bucks to reset everything, and here you give me the answer that worked. I owe you a beer brother.
@oldman4595 There might be a fuse inside the radio too. And if the radio is asking for a code you should look for that also. If it's an after market radio you might end up having to check everything. But you're on the right track...check the wires real good.
I feel like I’m the only one this didn’t work for😢 does the radio come on rather quickly after? I have a 2007 AM own and country. Battery was dead for sometime and now no radio
The solution is about 3:20 into video. Before that, he goes over everything he tried to fix the radio. Helpful, but if you want to skip to the answer, drag to about three minutes and 20 seconds... :) Thanks, Scott!! Gonna go try it now! I will comment again after.
Dodge Grand Caravan 2008 owner here. Thanks for the tips ! That didn't work for me, but you gave me hope to solve it by myself.. AND... the solution was simply to press the EJECT button of the CD player. BAM. Radio and CD player are now fully functional. Yeah !
Great video! Thank you for taking the time to pass your knowledge on to us! I have a 2008 Chrysler 300c and had to replace the battery in my car. I ADDED a Coastal MyGig LockPick to my radio a few years ago (it lets you add cameras to your 8" radio screen, and also lets you view video on the console screen while driving, etc). After battery replacement, the radio would not work, and I had to disconnect the wiring harness from the LockPick in order to reset the radio. Once the harness was reconnected to the LockPick the radio started working again. Hopefully, this might help someone else out who has the same setup as I do. Thanks again for taking the time to "pay it forward" with your great video!
Thanks for your comment. The comments people like you leave on here are very much apriceated because other people do get the chance to hear from other people also, and not just me. Thanks again.
Just sat for an hour watching video's on how to get the code back into my Nissan X trail 2008 after changing the battery. logged onto your video went outside and stuck the key into the ignition and hey presto it all worked. I normally have the key in my pocket and if you switch the radio on it won't work. It does now. You are truly a down to earth guy.Hope you enjoy life into your nineties you deserve a long life. Many thanks bud stay cool Mick.
I was asked to write this technique down....so here it is. Put the ignition key in. Turn it backwords. Not forward like you would to start the car. While it's turned backwards towards you, which is the accessory mode, turn on your radio. The radio should come on. You have reset the radio. Do the same thing for your CD player. Once all that is done you are good to go. You won't have to do this again unless you disconnect your battery again. Good luck.
AMAZING! Radio in my 2013 Dodge Dart had been out for a year! Didn't want to spend all the money mechanics and the dealerships were asking for then I come across this video! It worked like a charm! THANK YOU!

Hi guys adding to this. I cleaned the poles on the battery. Took the negative off first cleaned the negative pole and put the cable back. I then took off the positive pole and did the same thing. After that the radio wouldn't work. Somehow something stuck in my mind from years previous , disconnect both poles from the battery, then put the positive on first and then the negative. Don't ask me for the theory behind it I simply don't know, but hey it worked.
Wow I’m so empress it really works on my 2010 Honda Pilot, thank you so much sir, I know “thank you” is not enough but really appreciate this video of yours, God bless..
I am so grateful you posted this. I looked and looked for some video to solve my problem. Some wanted me to disconnect the positive terminal from my battery. Some wanted me to take the volume knob off and squirt it with contact spray. My volume was somehow turned completely up and it was blasting a Hispanic talk station. I went months with no radio and occasionally absentmindedly hit the on knob. My windows vibrated it was so loud. Your video is hard to find but it worked perfectly.
Hey Scott, thanks a lot. I've been without my radio for a few days. I was getting ready to buy a new one until I came across your video. First try and it started right up. I appreciate it. (SUBSCRIBED)
Hey I forgot to thank you for your comment two years ago, especially since you don't usually comment. So thanks for commenting! Hopefully your problem never came back.
Thanks for posting this. I have an '08 Ram and this will probably come in handy somewhere down the road. Meanwhile, it will probably fix the problem with my wife's Beetle radio.
There's a cell phone transceiver in your trunk sitting next to your suspension unit...check the wiring. Try disconnecting it and see what happens. See it your radio works after that. If it does you can leave that disconnected if you don't use the phone that came with the car. Look for lose and shorted out wires to it also.
You can also disconnect your battery and leave it disconnected for minimum 30 ..( it's an ecu reset procedure)... hook it back up and the radio will work.....I just did it...I was without my radio for three days inputting dozens of codes that didn't work... Easy peasy....👍
You the man, did exactly what you said. To explain just had an oil change, radio didn't work. Turned on but no sound. And this was a ford truck. Thx for looking out for us!!!
Thanks Scott! The speakers came for over 30 mins drive and later sieze. However, after it has rained I saw water dripping out of the driver's door when I opened it. So I suspect the speakers are ok but having water trouble.
Put the key in and turn it to accessory......then turn on your radio. You might have to do the same thing for your CD player. It's pretty easy. Only takes like 10 seconds. If it doesn't work you might have an after market radio or a radio that didn't come with the car.
This method used to work on my 2004 Nissan quest, but it doesn’t now. For the past year, the radio would go in and out and make a really loud noise on the speakers, and restarting the car and letting it sit for sometimes up to a couple minutes would fix the issue. Starting with putting it in the accessory position. Now that doesn’t work at all, and my car has been in the shop three times in the past six months, and lastly having the battery replaced altogether. I was told by the garage I am missing a tie down, knowing I had one before I’m sure it was stolen as the shop has now become some shady folks, however I’m not sure that has anything to do with it. The radio/CD didn’t go out FOR GOOD for probably a couple months after the battery was replaced, so I guess my question is if it was the battery connection, or not being hooked up to a power source upon changing the battery, is it possible that it could still be the battery connection even though the radio didn’t stop working immediately after changing the battery? Is it possible maybe just a connection got loose after sometime? I don’t really know what to look for when I look at the battery. By the way, the radio/CD player was about five years old, I bought a brand new one when I got my van. Brand new, not refurbished from the factory. Not under warranty anymore, and I don’t have $500 to replace it. With 7 kids, and being a single mom, I practically live in my van, and my kids and I are going crazy with nothing to listen to in the car! Please help!! 😫🙏
Wow 7 kids! Yeah it sounds like a bad connection somewhere and that might have caused a fuse to finally blow. The connection could be right at the radio itself. Whoever installed your new one might have left a connection loose. It could also be at the battery. Ask someone to help you. If all the connections are good check the fuses also. Keep in mind that some radios have fuses on the power line to the radio, not just in the fuse box. A lot of after market equipment is like that. Good luck.
Told my son to watch your method of DIU work on his Acura radio/stereo/cd which stopped working after disconnecting the battery. He hasn't checked his mail. He drove to his workplace early next morning took it to their underground garage in order to fix it. The radio/stereo/cd started to function! The under ground garage blocked the radio signal! But thank you for your excellent explanation and method but he didn't do it.
2008 VW Jetta S. I have the serial number but cannot turn into accessory mode backwards. 1 click forward works but radio does not. still stuck in safe anti-theft mode. Dealership wants $68-$125 to fix and I just lost my job. HELP!!!
Hi, I tried doing what you said, with my Jetta. Did not work. Did I do something wrong? I had the battery changed at Sears. Looks like they did not hookup a power source.
felix rodriguez I'm surprised that Sears screwed up like that. i hope you got it going again. If not I would complain to Sears and ask them to reset it for you.
thank you very much for your video I was planning to goto dealership im glad I found your video before that. I have a Honda 2006 civic instead of back I have to turn one click front. anyway now my radio is working :D
UPDATE: In my 2009 Kia Sportage there are two fuses the power of the radio. One is called AV and the other one is called audio in the diagram. I had replaced the audio one but that did not work. But checking The AV one showed it to be blown and replacing it fixed me up. I really appreciate your time.
It should work the same way, except you put the car into accesory by pushing the starter button without having your foot on the brake peddle. That should put your car into accesory, then try turning on your radio like you normally would. Good luck. And please let me know if this works for you!
Check your fuses. You may have a blown fuse. If you didn't lose power to the car or disconect the battery, and your radio stopped working, it could be just a blown fuse.
I checked all the fuses and they are all good. The electricity of the car is also good. Electricity arrives in the stereo, they even turn on the side lights of the device but the display does not work.
Changed battery at O'Reilly & radio hasn't worked since, pops & squeals & left blinker stiped working but started working on its own, took to Kia dealership & they wanted $2000.00 to fix it...help..can I unplug negative to the battery...?..now dash light won't come on...
You got a lot going on there. I don't have a quick answer. If I were you I would take it back to whoever changed the battery and tell them to fix it, if you didn't do it yourself.
I have a 08 Ford Escape it didn’t work. It will not let me go back on the ignition switch what else should I try? I just reinstalled the radio and did nothing else to it. Will not work and flashers will not work either.
...get into your car, then push the start button without stepping on the brake peddle. That's the trick.. don't step on the brake. Your car should go into accessory mode. Then ture the radio on. It should come on Then, if you want to go somewhere, push the start button again with your foot on the brake peddle, and your car will start for you. Good luck!
@@RealLifeProductions thank you but i tried it and it didnt work, the volume didnt come up , so am thinking whether it wasnt in accesssory mode, i still open to suggestion thanks
Dog gone it, I have a 2008 Hummer H3 and that didn't work for it. Still searching for solution. I see the clock when I push power but doesn't power on stereo.
That’s okay figured it out unplugged the battery for about 3 minutes and plugged it back ignition key on the position and it asked for the radio code ignition off and back on it recognized it belongs to the car radio on working fine
Hi Scott, we have a 2007 Ford Focus and recently (about 1 week ago), we had a flat battery and lost the radio. the key won't turn backwards in this car, but one click forward will be on the accessory position. However, when we do that, the radio is turned on with no sound and cannot change it to any other position. We cannot turn it off either. What else could be wrong in this case? Grateful for your further feedback, Thanks and Regards, Sam
Thanks Scott, I have allocated the fuse boxes - there are 2 of them [one located in the bonnet and the other located under the glove boxes. There are so many fuses, that I really don't know what I am looking for. Should the blown fuse have to do with the radio or audio. All the fuses codes in the instruction manual, make NO references to radio...unless I missed it. Or are you saying, I should check each and every fuse in the fuse boxes? I am totally lost. Any further assistance/or clues would be appreciated. All the best for a great New Year. Thanks and Regards, Sam
Hey Scott, you saved my bacon and I owe you a beer or a lemon aid. Two days I spent trying to get the radio back on. I checked everything online and then the clouds parted the sun came out and you are walking in the snow to your truck. Once I figured out the accent something told me you knew what you were talking about. So thank you . Now do you have a video on keeping the wife happy? Best ,Forrest
Thank you soooooooooooooo much!!!!! We we're getting ready to leave for a week long road trip in a couple of hours and decided to burn some music discs for the ride. I've never used the mp3 disc drive in my car since I bought it. We put a disc in and it wouldn't recognize it, so it wouldn't eject it. We had to take the radio out to remove the disc... Then we had the Anti-Theft message (>.
because I changed the battery and the radio stopped working. I tried this in my daughters Nissan versa and it didn't work. I'm wondering if I missed something?
@@RealLifeProductions no its a key start but the only thing is it doesn't turn backwards. It turns forward in 3 settings. 1st setting nothing happens, 2nd setting the air and light will come on and 3rd setting it cranks.
If it's going to work it should work in the accessory mode. Have you checked the radio fuse? Your car might have an amplifier connected to your sound system also... look for that fuse and check it.
I tried, it doesn't work! Mine doesn't go backwards, like you say to do. I tried it forwards and it does nothing. I'm not really sure what the problem can be. I guess I'll have to just replace the radio
Did not work for my 2002 Toyota Tacoma. Not the fuse because the owner's manual I downloaded says same fuse works the dome light, which is o.k.. Do I have to pull out the unit and check the wiring harness?
Do you have a push button start up button? Try pushing the button without touching the brakes. Keep your foot off the brake then push the start button one time just like you were starting the car. Let me know if this works! Good luck.
Ok. You're probably going to need the code. Look for it inside the glove compartment or in the owner's manual that came with the car. If you have it. The dealers write it down in there sometimes. Honda's are the main car that do that code thing with their radios.
@@RealLifeProductions ty. Will try that. One RUclips lady said you have to put 1212 in front of the code numbers. I will try it with and without those numbers.
You could ask the dealer for the number, but that might not work for you because they don't like doing that especially when there's nothing in it for them. The number is probably on the radio itself...on the back of it, which means that someone has to pull the radio out to read it. I hope you figure it out. I wish I could help you more. Good luck.
:( a 2009 Kia Sportage does not have an auxiliary setting in the ignition. The key does not turn backwards but if you just move it forward 1 notch it's the same thing I think. The bad news is that did not work for me I'm glad it did for others though. I also tried the eject button on the radio and that was no go either. back to the drawing board
Please, I need help with my 2006 honda civic speakers front side of driver and passenger side.currently not producing sound. It gives sound occasionally. I guess this problem occurred after several use of aux cable with my phone. Sometimes I remove the cable off and on while the radio is on and makes some scrishy noise. Are the speakers bad?

This man needs a nobell prize yo.
When ur radio doesn’t work but ur beatboxer
...been down that road a few times
Did what you said and it worked , Thank You , God Bless you .
Great! Thanks for your comment. I love hearing that my video helped someone.
Will it work on a 2006 Chrysler minivan? I had to get a new tire pressure sensor after I got a flat and now the radio isn't working
Did they disconnect the battery for that? Anyway give it a try. If they disconnected the battery this should work for you. Try it.
You’re the hero we don’t deserve!
Thanks
thank you very much for your video I was planning to goto dealership im glad I found your video before that. I have a Honda 2006 civic instead of back I have to turn one click front. anyway now my radio is working :D
Dilani wreagama how you did it? I have a Honda Civic 2008
Awesome! Nice work. Thanks for sharing that and for your comment!
How does it work if you have a keyless car?
It should work the same way, except you put the car into accesory by pushing the starter button without having your foot on the brake peddle. That should put your car into accesory, then try turning on your radio like you normally would. Good luck. And please let me know if this works for you!
Scott Prado I tried to do that but it won’t work please give me any other options
Wow thanks man you just save me a ton of money. You are the MAN.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
You're welcome and thanks for the comment!
thank you soo much for this tut...it worked for me on my 03 dodge caravan....with kids yes i need all the free i can get lol!
Hi, I have a Kia Soul 2010 and my radio stopped working. I try to put the key in ACC position and then turn on the radio but it does not work
Check your fuses.
@@PabloFunesOk Ever find a fix or cause?
Nelle tuve que llevar mi Radio a un service para que la reparen. Estaban quemados algunos circuitos.
Such a generous person to share this!
Thank you. I try to pass along good things whenever I can. Thanks for watching, and also for your insperational comment!
Check your battery cables. Almost sounds like you may have a loose connection.
I have a 08 Ford Escape it didn’t work. It will not let me go back on the ignition switch what else should I try? I just reinstalled the radio and did nothing else to it. Will not work and flashers will not work either.
You might need to find the code.
I'll try to look into it for you and get back to you.
av gat this radio problem with my sienna 2011, but its keyless, how do i turn it to accessory like you said pls help me
...get into your car, then push the start button without stepping on the brake peddle. That's the trick.. don't step on the brake. Your car should go into accessory mode. Then ture the radio on. It should come on
Then, if you want to go somewhere, push the start button again with your foot on the brake peddle, and your car will start for you.
Good luck!
@@RealLifeProductions thank you but i tried it and it didnt work, the volume didnt come up , so am thinking whether it wasnt in accesssory mode, i still open to suggestion thanks
@johnodusina1881 I just found out that sometimes you have to push it twice. Try that. With no brake.
Dog gone it, I have a 2008 Hummer H3 and that didn't work for it. Still searching for solution. I see the clock when I push power but doesn't power on stereo.
Do you know if it will work for a Toyota Tacoma 2005? Please let me know, thank you
I'm not sure if it will work for a Toyota. Try it.
Had battery changed on my 2014 town and country van and now no radio I tried your way didn’t work any suggestions would really appreciate it
Do you have the original radio that came with the car? Or an after market?
That’s okay figured it out unplugged the battery for about 3 minutes and plugged it back ignition key on the position and it asked for the radio code ignition off and back on it recognized it belongs to the car radio on working fine
Thanks for the info. I'm gonna try this in the morning, I hope it works!!
MERTIE123 samehere did it work?
I need help!! I have a 2003 CTS with a new factory radio that turns on but NO SOUND!!
Check your fuses. Some cars use amplifiers with the radio. They're separate units and use separate fuses.
+moveforwardwebdesign
I think you should look at your fuses. See if you have a blown fuse somewhere.
+moveforwardwebdesign did you have any luck?
Hey Scott, you saved my bacon and I owe you a beer or a lemon aid. Two days I spent trying to get the radio back on. I checked everything online and then the clouds parted the sun came out and you are walking in the snow to your truck. Once I figured out the accent something told me you knew what you were talking about. So thank you . Now do you have a video on keeping the wife happy?
Best ,Forrest
Glad I was able to help. I'll work on that "happy wife" video for ya.
Thanks for your comment!
Dealing with the same problem right now about to go try this thank you
Good luck!
thanks buddy owe u a cold one if ur ever in jersey
You're good man thank you for that advice you help out thousands of people
Scotty tomcat ...glad I could help out, that's what I'm here for.
This worked!!! Thank you so much!!
2012 Chevy Impala
You're welcome. Thanks for your comment!
Did not work on a 07 Jeep Commander after battery change
Hey scott I have an audi a3. I put my key in and try to go the other way but it doesn't budge
Try pushing the up/down button for the MMI screen and then after it pops up press the radio button. See if that works.
Thank you. I haven't tried it yet but I appreciate the help.
That didn't work for me but you took me in the right direction. thanks man! Got my radio to work!
Jon Pena any tips i got a 2015 kia optima
Can you at least provide some details on how you got it to work?????????
my accessory is half forward not nackwards. what can i do about that??
Try it half forward, or wherever your accessory position is. The main thing is to put it in accessory then turn your radio on.
Is her radio stock, or after market? If it's after market this may not work for you.
@@RealLifeProductions its a stock radio/CD player.
@@jamiehardy2291 is it a push button start?
@@RealLifeProductions no its a key start but the only thing is it doesn't turn backwards. It turns forward in 3 settings. 1st setting nothing happens, 2nd setting the air and light will come on and 3rd setting it cranks.
If it's going to work it should work in the accessory mode. Have you checked the radio fuse? Your car might have an amplifier connected to your sound system also... look for that fuse and check it.
Me and all the world are grateful to you. Thanks
What about a 2005 Mercury Montego? I had my alternator replaced and now my radio doesn't work...all fuses are good
Give it a try.
I tried, it doesn't work! Mine doesn't go backwards, like you say to do. I tried it forwards and it does nothing. I'm not really sure what the problem can be. I guess I'll have to just replace the radio
@@Honeyluv2011 Check your manual for the accessory position. You must have one. Or goggle it. You shouldn't have to replace your radio.
I tried again and it still isn't coming on
@@Honeyluv2011 I'll try to find out how to put your ignition into accessory and get back to you.
Did not work for my 2002 Toyota Tacoma. Not the fuse because the owner's manual I downloaded says same fuse works the dome light, which is o.k.. Do I have to pull out the unit and check the wiring harness?
+yixnorb
Do you have a radio amplifier that is seperate from the radio itself?
2012 Ford Fusion?? Will the key turn backwards?? If it doesn't then what??
Do you have a push button start up button? Try pushing the button without touching the brakes. Keep your foot off the brake then push the start button one time just like you were starting the car. Let me know if this works! Good luck.
I don't have a push button start.
What have you tried so far?
Well, unfortunately this didn't work on my Ford Fiesta (in. the UK) because you couldn't turn the key backwards. Any ideas?
Do you have a way of putting the key in the accessory mode?
Oh my God! So glad I found this video! It worked like a charm! I was actually going to go to the dealership! Thank you so much!!! God bless you!!!
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment.
Thx bro, worked on 2000 Lexus LS 400!
Cool. Thanks for the comment too!
I tried it for a Honda Civic 1999 and my key won’t go backwards. What else should I do?
You must have a way of putting your car into accessory mode so that you can listen to the radio without starting the car, right?
@@RealLifeProductions yes. I turned it to the right twice and then touched the radio and nothing but code error.
Wow, it worked. I was about to go in check fuses, and wires and all sorts of stuff. Thank god I did this first. Thank you
Thanks for your comment! I'm happy I was able to help.
Did u try reconnecting the Battery? That might help your radio to work again.👌🏻
+Olubori Olanrewaju. Your speakers are probably ok.
