Fix Honda Radio "Enter Code" lockout after dead battery- EpicReviewsTech CC

- Yesterday the battery died in our Honda- and after the hassle of replacing it I thought all was well- until turning on the radio today. No radio- no AM, no FM no Bluetooth Audio- all I got was the mysterious message- "Enter Code." After a silent drive home I researched what had happened and found out that newer Honda radios have a theft-deterrent feature whereby after being disconnected from the battery they "lock up" and won't work again until a security code is entered. My owner's manual told me I should have received this code number with my owner's manual kit. Digging through the pouch I found the credit card sized card with my radio unlock code. Turned out I didn't need it because there is a way with a button to reconnect your radio and make it realize it is "back where it belongs- in your car." Doing the button technique worked and I didn't need to enter my radio code, but at least I found it and copied it into my owner's manual since that is much larger and I am less likely to lose it.

Thank you! I replaced our 2012 Pilot's battery today. We bought it used and the paperwork did not come with the unlock code. The 2 second method worked. This almost 3 year old video is a gift that keeps on giving.
Making use of the ruclips.net/user/postUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type
The guy who invented coke, air conditioning, and this guy.. you 3 are going to Heaven …
THANK YOU STRANGE MAN ON THE INTERNET

You just saved me. Got a new battery, came back to radio silence in my Honda and no phones. Finally found your RUclips instructions and the day was saved. Thank you and RUclips so much!
Glad it could help!
YAY!!!! Thank you! We bought our Honda pre-owned and didn't know the code. Battery died. This saved us a trip to the dealership!
Yep same here , thank you sir
Thank you so much. The manual isn't ever as good as someone like yourself explaining and showing us how to. Am forever grateful to you. It worked! - NO code required.
This ten year old video is still relevant! I didn't have the code card in with my manual following a battery replacement. I called the dealership and they require you to set an appointment and come in which is ridiculous. Holding down the power button for two seconds was all it needed. Glad I searched this up before going in. Thank you!
Sure is!
You said "power" button. Did you mean Volume button? If you meant power button, can you please tell me where this is located? Thanks.
@@myersanthonya I mean the button he pushed in the video at 1:36. It's labeled VOL but has a power symbol on it. I'm calling it the power button because it's used to turn the system on or off.
Adding my thanks here, same deal, battery died and I couldn't access my Bluetooth anymore. This saved a bunch of headaches being able to watch this video.
So glad it was useful!
Battery replacement due to a bad battery. I got locked out, I saw your video and pressed and held power button for 2 seconds and it worked! Thank you for making a potential headache into a quick fix! 🤙🏼
ty for sharing, ill try this (praying it works) ...
I’m incredibly grateful for your video and clear explanation of what to do. My Honda Fit’s battery died, I had it replaced and for the past week have been driving around with the error code and being very frustrated. Thanks to you after entering the antitheft numbers I am now a much happier driver. Kudos!
probably the stupidest feature ever... who the hell wants to steal a stock radio... especially one that involves taking off an enormous amount of dash to get to and lacks modern features.
I got this code trash on a model of civic that it is literally impossible to steal the radio. the dash is completely cemented around it...
Zeek Suds ,
The best Incentive for the owner to swap to aftermarket. Honestly Honda should just not install a radio at all.
Anyone who doesn't want to pay 800 for one would steal one

Just replaced my wife’s alternator and battery before a 8 hour trip... thank you! It worked! Our 4 children would have driven me crazy without their tv and Radio!
Thank you for posting. I had a code, input the code, and was STILL locked out. I was baffled. Your video is a life saver.
I still don't understand why my provided code didn't work. Maybe because the Odyssey is over 12 years old now.
This worked! Thank you! Saved me so much time. Bought a Honda used. No code card. Holding the volume button worked. Thank goodness. So glad you posted this video.
Thank you! 10 years later you still helped us today!
I looked in the manual for about ten minutes and then thought “what the heck am I doing when there’s probably some rando who made a video specifically about this issue?” Sure enough! Thank you sir!
Thank you! This basically saved our road trip! With 5 kids and a 17 hour drive, being locked out of our radio and DVD system would've made our trip much harder for the little ones!
Thank you!!! Did what you did and it worked! No code required.
You saved my life. Thank you so much I was having a craft day. I’ve had no radio for days. My Honda wasn’t even fixed and I’m gonna have to keep having this radio issue since my battery terminal is loose and I am so thankful that my kids can watch the movies and leave me in peace to drive without distractions.
10 years and still helping, thank you!
Thank you so much! Battery died in my 2013 Odyssey and have been driving around for a month with no music. Holding the volume button worked like a charm, I'm so grateful for your help!
My 2013 Honda Pilot had the battery replaced and it asked for my Security PIN on the display. I was driving the car and simply did as this video directed - I pushed held down the volume button for a couple seconds, and it beeped and resumed normal operation. Wow. So much for all those videos telling me to find some sticker with a number on it. Very Grateful ⭐️👍
Published in 2013, but still useful today. Just followed another You Tube video on how to replace my dead battery in my 2010 Honda Civic and did it successfully. Then started the engine and reached to listen to tunes...ENTER CODE. Yikes! What is this I thought? Checked my manual and it mentioned nothing about the magic card you show in your video. Fortunately I keep my manual case and all important documents tidy. Found it, entered the code AND.... my tunes are back. THANK YOU!! Ready for my 2 hour trip tomorrow. :-)

Thanks 😂 10 years later and this vid still comes in handy
Thank you so much!!! You are a life saver. I just replaced my battery tonight, Friday night, and going on a family trip. I panicked to see the code request. Your advice to hold the volume did the trick! You saved me from having to drive in silence with having to hear my kids complain that it's too quiet. ;) Thanks again!
That video could have been 15 seconds for goodness sake. Just hold down the volume key.
I JUST resolved this problem for my fiance. Thanks for making me look like a Champ! 😎
2014 Honda Pilot, purchased used previous owner didn’t leave code, holding the volume button worked for me, thank you
Just replaced my battery 3 weeks ago and haven’t had music since then. Thank you so much for this info!!! Saved me a trip to the mechanic!
2011 Odyssey EX-L The two seconds trick worked. Battery sent out yesterday. Replaced battery, going on a trip today and really didn't have time to go to dealership. Thank you, you saved me time and a big hassle.
Pressing volume button made be back to normal, thank you so much
Thank you internet man! Ten minutes of reading the manual and I turned to you! 🙏 😁
Had my car shipped across country and battery was dead. Thanks mate, the power button trick saved me some major headaches!
Thank you so much! You very clearly explained what was going on. Instead of a phone call to Honda we were able to be on our way in under three minutes :)
Right video at the right time. The blaring horn with my head under the hood had me on my last nerve. You saved me from a really bad mood tonight. So I subbed. Thanks brother
Wow that was so Easy! I was about to rip my hair out trying to find the code. Thanks!
This is the most helpful video I have ever watched. Been living with no radio for almost 2 weeks now (couldn’t find the pin)! Thank you!
Thanks! Replaced battery on 2011 Odyssey, realized I did not have the code. Your trick worked, and saved me a trip to the dealership!
Thank you so much. You just took away stress out of my life. Was about to stress, couldn’t find my audio. Thanks a lot, Sir.
I just earned myself some brownie points with my hubby thanks to this video. Thank you…like someone else said, driving with small children and not having the entertainment system working is no bueno.
Thanks! Just saved my bacon... The sticker on the left hand (inside) of the glove compartment was where my code was. Thanks to "Trisha Garcia" for that tidbit of information.
Thank you! I found the trick online to get the S/N but couldn't enter it. Your method worked!
To get the code you can (on 2012 Honda Odyssey):
- Turn radio off
- Press and hold preset 1 and 6
- While holding preset 1 and 6, turn radio power on.
It will then display the serial number. But I was looking for how to ENTER the serial number and found this video and it worked, thank you!
Woo just replaced the battery and now my stereo works again!! Thank you
👍👍
Worked in my 2015 Honda Odyssey EXL. Replaced my battery and was prompted for the radio code. While watching this video, the radio infotainment prompted me to hold the power down for 2 seconds. It worked. I have my code tucked away in my house and saved me the hassle of looking for it.
Out here saving out audio lives. Thank you!
Thank you so much. I didnt even know that little card existed until I looked in the pocket of the owners manual
Thank you so much for this video. Imagine this is saving me from a lot of stress 9 years after when I just had the same experience with my Honda. However, my volume/ power button is the same so the push down technique didn't work so I had to input the code, thanks to your video I knew what to look for and to do. Thank you once again.
I cannot tell you how much I love you right now lol just replaced battery and got the need code...well my toddlers would have had a field day without the DVD player so thankyou!! it worked!!
Thank you! Just picked up our 2012 Honda Odyssey from the mechanic where they replaced the alternator and battery, and this saved the day! I appreciate it!
Thank you so much. Pressing volume button for 2 seconds worked like a charm
Thank you. I have a 2013 Honda Accord EXL and I bought it used just recently and my battery died and I just exchanged it. And of course there is the security alert asking me to enter a code on my touch screen. And with your help and a push of a volume button it worked. Thank you again
Thank you so much!!! I bought my Honda used and there was no code card...I can’t drive without music so you literally saved my sanity

Literally was exactly what I was looking for and you explained it perfectly. Thank you my friend
This saved me a tip to the dealership for my 2010 Honda Odyssey. Changed the battery, tried to save computer info but the Honda system overrides this so when I saw the enter code and couldn't find it I thougt , great another un needed trip to the dealer and $75 charge. Thanks for posting this.
Worked on my 2013 Honda Pilot EX-L! You saved me a trip to the dealer and a lot of bullcrap, thank you sir!
9 yr old video still helping out.
Thx chief
God bless you, thank you! Our battery died, we got it replaced and this save is. It is a pre-owned car so we never got a code.
You saved my life......my life, as a single mother of 3 birth kiddos and 2 bonus kiddos who works 60 hours a week, is music on blast in my car😜♥️♥️♥️ Tripple A fixed the battery but you sir fixed my sanity in less than one minute 🥰
Thank you‼️‼️‼️
you saved my trip. I can't drive without music‼️😁👍
THANK YOU !! OMG YOU SAVED MY LIFE !! I COULD NOT STAND DRIVING AND NOT LISTENING TO ANY MUSIC :,)
You are awesome! After a couple weeks of no radio my radio now works thanks to you!
Anti-theft = anti-user. Thieves figure out how to overcome any wall. That's what they do. All this shit does is make it hard for owners. /rant complete.
Thanks for the vid.
It's also a pain in the ass for car audio shops like myself.. I have customers come to me to put there factory radios back in to sell there cars, or trade them in an I have to call the dealer half the time An fight with them to get the code. Me as a professional installer with a business should not have to deal with arguing over the phone for radio codes. Obviously these days it's much easier since you can just go on Honda website An get the code by entering vin number and or serial number but even that isn't always a guarantee .
Thank you! Didn’t need the code- just held the volume. Thanks for the tip!
Wow. You were the first video I watched and it worked right away. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Are you serious I was frustrated for a minute and this save me a lot of time and energy keep up with the good work

Omg!!! Thank you so much!!! This is so helpful for everyone who can't find that teeny tiny piece of paper from 12 years ago😂
Thank You... resolved the problem in 5 seconds.. after we found our Code card!! SUBSCRIBED!
Thanks a million. New Battery, no radio code... and now no problem.
Omg thank you so much you literally saved my life from boredom and saves my mom stress for another day
Thank you very much for making this video. I was worried because i used my sisters pilot to work and when his husband used it, that happened. The prolonged power button worked. We didn't know the code.
Omg thank you. No radio for 6 months (secondary car at least). Couldn't find the code ANYWHERE. ..and this is all I had to do all along 😂😂
