Dry brushing is an age-old practice that not only cleans the lymph system, but helps keep skin looking young, tight, and healthy. And, it has been said to help in the prevention of stretch marks and cellulite - pregnant or not.
This is a practice I now do on my body and face daily and have noticed many benefits since starting at the very beginning of my pregnancy.
I have yet to see one stretch mark, have not retained water/bloated, and my cellulite (although full disclosure, I had only 1 or 2 tiny patches pre-pregnancy) has not gotten any worse. I attribute this to a number of factors, including maintaining a healthy (ish) diet during pregnancy, genetics, staying well-hydrated, moisturizing and dry brushing. I thoroughly enjoy it and find it helps boost my energy, I have noticed an improvement in digestion, and I get major compliments on my skin, too.
Try this very enjoyable and invigorating practice for yourself!

Hi! I've started dry brushing about one year ago because I was loosing weight when I stopped some medication. I must say I didn't get any saggy skin and the cellulite that I have left is very reduced! I've since got pregnant (wohoooo to 25 weeks!) and have continued to do it. So far no new stretch marks. What I do after the shower is to use creams and/or natural oils. I feel that after dry brushing and the shower my skins absorbs all that goodness :) I was not doing the face but I sure will start now! Loved the video as soon as I saw it I went whaaaaaaaa! I need to see this! Congrats on the chanel it has helped me a lot! Kisses from Portugal!
That's amazing! I bet you will love it for your face too!🤗
I watched several videos on dry brushing and I found you're to be the most helpful. Thanks so much!!
HI Melissa, fist time commenting here. We used to do this type of brushing to help our daughter with Autism desensitize her skin in order to wear different types of fabrics. When she was 5 the brushing around the head, face, arms and legs was done on a daily bases, 3 times a day (crazy). It helped her with wonderful results. We only did this for a few months. But now I see per your video that it would be a good idea to do it like you do now that she is an adult. I will try on myself too. Heck, even my husband will try it on himself. ;-) Thanks dearest and I hope you have an easy labor. You and your husband will experience an instant falling in love when the baby arrives. It is an experience like no other. It is wonderful. Take care.
Wow - what an interesting use for it, who knew! I am sure you will all love doing it now :) lovely to hear from you and thanks for your well wishes!
YOU LOOK AMAZING DARLIN, so beautiful pregnant
I'm not pregnant anymore but I have chronic fatigue syndrome and I think I will try this for the detox and energy benefits thanks this was really great xx
Thank you for always giving a clear instruction every time. Now, my curiosity is answered. Melissa, you are an angel.
Aww, you are most welcome!
I have been wanting a dry brush forever! Thanks for the tutorial on how to properly do it and even while pregnant. Excited to add this into my morning care routine
Definitely do it!!!
I've always been a big fan of your channel and I can easily notice that your skin looks different since being pregnant. It looks softer and smoother and overall more healthy. Thanks for the dry-brush tips and techniques. I definitely want to start doing this as well.
Wow - thanks so much! Yes, give it a whirl! It is fantastic!
Great tips, i was always curious about dry brushing. Thank you!
I have the brushes but wasn't sure how to proceed to get most bang for my buck so I thank you! You are absolutely glowing and look amazing
Melissa, literally saw your post on insta and went on amazon to buy a brush. Loved this thanks!
Fantastic! I hope you enjoy!
I thought this was great! Super helpful and good info. I had no idea about this but will definitely be starting this. Thanks for sharing Melissa!!
It's my pleasure! You are most welcome!
I had never heard of dry brushing. But I'm excited to try. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome!!!
Your 35??? Wow!! I'm buying that brush now 😍😍😍
Hahaha, it's true!
Greyer Baby 35 is still very young
Thank you! This was very informative. I normally use that bigger brush for my showers but will now buy more for dry brushing. 😊
wooow you explained really well. this week i go out to find brushes and i will try
Thanks for sharing Melissa, great video 👍🏻 never heard of dry brushing before, interesting 😊
neysa rodriguez I think you would really like it!
I just love her so much lol she's going to make an amazing mother.
Thank you so much xoxoxo
Melissa Maker Thanks for making my Friday ♡ you may not remember me but I met you and Chad at Mariachis....Still my favorite RUclipsr. Xo
Rina Price hahah sure I remember! That was fun running into you there! 😎
Yup and her lil one is gonna be so beautiful and I know full of giggles
I have a large brush and tried dry brushing a few times. I need to get back into it. This video will definitely help that. Thanks!
You are welcome! I hop it has helped you!
Wonderfully detailed. Just a word of caution to women who have had lymph node removal due to a mastectomy, make sure you check with your doctor so as to prevent lymphedema.
I never heard of dry brushing before, but my skin could sure use it, cuz I'm always battling dry skin. So thanks so much! I searched for you here, after seeing your book on Amazon. Best wishes to you, and your family 😊 I started using baby oil on a loofa, after cleansing, and it has truly made a difference. I use to put it on after showering, while I was still wet, and then towel dry. But I think using the loofa helps to really moisturize. Maybe it will help you, and your subs too!
Thanks for the great video!
Hello from this part of world..Love from Kashmir!.. Thankyou! I didn't knew about this...😘
I'm going to start doing this! I had never heard of it and now I really want to try it.
Sydney Ver Mehren it's a really nice ritual / habit to get into
I got so excited when I realized you could also dry brush your face- I never knew! I bought a brush online and it came today... it feels really harsh though on my skin, I guess I’ll get used to it and use a very light hand? Thanks for the info, I’m going to follow your routine! X
Yes - it's amazing for your face! You will get used to the sensation, and start off more gentle and build up as you see fit. I don't 'grind' the brush into my skin, just work gently. See what feels good for you!
Yes, yes and yes... it does seem to help more than exfoliating with salt-essential oils.
Thank you sooo much super informative vid 👏👏👏❤️
Hi Melissa! You look beautiful! :) #Glowing 💁🏻
I had a wooden brush that I bought many years ago. I thought it was for showering regularly, but i just thought it was too rough on my skin lol i didn't know what it was for, but now thanks to you! I kinda want to buy one again. 😘💕💐 Thanks for sharing! ☺️
Thank you! Yes, I know. It seems strange to use it dry...but it is much nicer once you try it and get used to it!
I was always taught to start at the extremities - fingers, and brush up the arms back to the heart. The same with the lower half. Start at the toes and feet and brush back to the torso.
Interesting! Do what works for you!!
Can't wait to try it 😁
Thank you for the great tips. I just got pregnant so am in to try anything that will help with the strechies 😜my sister used coconut and olive oil for massaging the whole body through the pregnancy and she did not get any stretch marks or cellulite.
You are so beautiful. I love watching you videos. No matter what it is i always learn something from you. By the i have been telling everyone about your microfiber clothes i really love them.
Thank you so much - what a nice thing to hear!!
Wow... quite a complex routine!! Tried memorizing it but wasn’t able to:( Can I do it just intuitively without all these detailed steps?? Would it cause any harm? Thanks for sharing it Melissa! Does Chad do the dry brushing as well? Is it ok to do it on children?
thank you for sharing!!!!
I love dry brushing. But, it has been shoved to the back. No, literally. I have a dry brush and it's in the back of a bathroom vanity drawer. I'm getting that puppy out and start back up. You are so right that it feels invigorating and makes for smooth skin. I live in a dry humidity area and we haven't been getting the snow we usually do so it's super dry. My skin needs this. TFS
My pleasure! I hope you do bring it back into the fold and enjoy it!
Informative video. I wish you could do a follow along.
I need to dry brush 👍 you look amazing 😍
Thanks - you will love it!
I did this with all 3 all of my pregnancies and it really worked for keeping my skin amazing during pregnancy and I still do it now. I didn't have success with cellulite and stretch marks but it maintained it youth lol. I love your channel and your looking beautiful xo
Thank you so much! I get annoyed when people 'promise' magic. But I agree, it is not a cure-all but it has helped my skin look incredible during this time! Three pregnancies - wow mama!!!
What about some of the lotions and oils I see that are geared towards pregnant women to help with stretch marks? I'm asking for Melissa because, well, I'm as old as her Mom. :)
myozbubble I did use bio oil, coconut oil, and the body shops drops of youth religiously, I was very lucky to not get stretch marks but cellulite was was unavoidable lol. Dry brushing really helped my skin absorb the oils and remove dead skin but also got the blood pumping which also stopped my tummy getting itchy from the stretching as I got bigger and perked me up for the day.
I am going to share about that next!
@@taylakahui4599 hello Talya! Did you start dry brushing in first trimester? I wonder because in some sites it says it is not recommended so i was a bit sceptic. Would love to know which week did you start? ☺️
I'm only 3 minutes into the video and altho I'm very interested in the subject, the music is driving me nuts!
Obviously the brushes are special. So where can they be bought?
It’s great for dry skin.
The little "belly dance" while Chad moved the camera made me laugh out loud. Not AT you of course. There's just nothing cuter than a "pregnant belly dance". Gonna try this today! I got brushes for Christmas from my sis and I hear that it's amazing for everyone to do for lymph flow, digestion, skin and just everything all around. Thanks for the video!! And dance :)
REPLY
I love dry brushing!
ditto!
Great job I'm 56 and have been doing this for years
Fantastic! Do you notice it helps your skin over time? Thank you!!!
Melissa Maker yes darlin I'm 56 and I've been doing it since I was in my 20's lol. I use to use loofa S back in the day now I too use the brushes! It feels so good. Then I slather myself in coconut oil another habit from my 20's. I just let people guess my age and what ever they say, I tell them " WOW, your good at this" . Never tell my secret lol
Getting Monica vibes with all these 7's 😂
Just purchased the set from Amazon Canada
I am sure you will love it!
So isn't it also important to drink water afterward to flush out the toxins in order to complete detoxing your system?
I’ve heard of dry brushing but haven’t ever done it. I’m definitely interested. Do you dry brush your back? Thanks for the video.
You know, that's the only area I don't. I am too lazy!!!
Very interesting!!! Thank you for sharing!
I used to do this and kinda just got away from it. Thanks for the reminder.
You are MOST welcome!
Hi Melissa I have this brushes but I have no idea if I should use it with my body wash?!.....🤔🤔
I go through phases where I dry brush, and always feel a lot more energized after doing it. Thank you for showing us your routine. I am also glad to know I am not the only one who says “elbow pit.” 😀
For sure - well, isn't that the medical term 😂?
Thank you I'm going to try it. Does she move around a lot when you do your belly?
Funny enough, she doesn't!
Okay I use a brush but it's hard. Does that have any effect on the skin?
awsm! tnx
Thank you...... Can use any oil before dry brush? 🌹
@@crickkett7510 how we can keep skin glowing.... 🌹? Thanks
Melissa do you use an oil or lotion after dry brushing and if so which do recommend? I am at the early stages of pregnancy and is looking to start preventing stretch marks.
I'm covering that in my next video - coming this week!!!
Melissa Maker you mentioned another video about moisturizing... did you make it yet?
OMG im number 666 views! great video, i dry brush but not this way, I will be trying this method.
Let me know how you like it!
where is your necklace from?
Where do you brush? In my case there is much dry skin flying when I brush, so that's a little problem.
Bathroom
Good
Why is the pattern so specific? Isn't it just to exfoliate? Seems like a bit of woo...
#notificationsquad 😘😘
I think I missed how many times a week do we need to dry brush? I already scrub my face and body twice a week. So do I need to dry brush too? Wouldn't it be over exfoliated?
Monalisa Singh I do it daily and it's totally fine!
After you do the dry brush whats next???
shower
Thank you I will try but I won’t be touching the belly just for my peace of mind I just heard that if you scratch that area you can get stretch marks so keep us updated after pregnancy if this works for the belly!!!
Thank you for the demonstration, I found it very interesting. Love your belly.
Greetings from South Africa
🤗 Hi from Toronto!
It was smooth brush or else it was rough
Girl isn’t that harsh for the face? Is it safe for sensitive skin? I have never seen anyone doing it on the face
Brushing your nipples also helps to prepare for nursing, toughening them up so you will be less sensitive and will have a shorter adjustment time nursing that new little one!
Paula Seaman ooooh interesting!
What is conceal soap?
auntdeb_4 castile soap. It's a natural time of soap
Moisturizing your skin with oils daily also helps to prevent stretch marks! 😘
PS: I'm so eager to know what name you picked for your baby girl!! Melissa and Chad, have you already mentioned it somewhere or decided to keep it secret until she's born?
We don't have on yet! I'm covering moisturizing next!
Which oil is good for stretch marks
I've had 5 babies, and no stretch marks ever. I attribute it to eating LOTS of vegetables. 😉
Oh goodness. I did last night and woke up way less bloated today .
I am 11 weeks pregnant and looked like I was 25 weeks.
Woke up normal and almost not looking like I’m
Pregnant .
:O OMG....she made circles O: ROFL
I just got tired watching her do this.
Do u use oils after
Do you drive barefoot
Stretch marks are real life battle scars....how about this? Go painmed and epidural free, THEN speak how you battled with your brushes.
You are in for TONNNNS of surprises, and stretch mark and cellulite are VERY least important with 2 hrs of sleep each feeding...good luck
Why thank you :)
Why would you "show us" without showing us! Ugh!
Too much talking!!
Omg why she talks so much
I started dry brushing yesterday for the time and i got a rash around my neck area 😔
