Ah yes, as a kid, the scariest thing is going way up high into the air. As an adult, it's the endless void of meaningless full of nothing for the rest of eternity. Gotta love me some existential dread
That’s actually pretty real. As a kid, you’re scared of the thought of dying, but as an adult, you’ve come to accept it, yet worry about what there is to come after death.
It's really amazing to see how fragile these games are when small unexpected things happen. It just makes my respect for the relatively bug-free nature of the game even stronger.
@@BritishBoy Does it though? isn’t it cheapest to do the most straightforward coding and not over-code it with thousands of unlikely hypotheticals? or do i understand games even less than i think?
@@DLRudder well, most games these days launch with so many gameplay bugs that it's hard to believe any time at all went into QA testing. Oot is such a different story. Even though it's a fragile engine with many quirks, it's clear that extensive testing went into making sure the gameplay experience would be great no matter how the game was played.
I remember seeing people use these dummy chests in randomizers and custom ROM hacks, the "Mimic" is honestly the best trap chest to exist in LoZ although unofficially, it still spices up the Zelda content. I wish Nintendo would embrace these custom campaigns and randomizers. Cause it's enjoyment of your game, plus experiences of people who would be more than capable of making a Zelda game for their company.
I can’t tell if this is joking or not. If it’s not, here’s an explination: if you attempt to open a chest with no contents, the game defaults to picking it up instead.
We would not see chests with literally nothing in them until Phantom Hourglass, where exactly one such instance appears. Before that, we had trap chests that freeze Link. Nintendo must've set up the chest procedure to default to "pickup-able" if there are no contents inside. Twilight Princess was probably the first to have us open chests underwater, and this was after Wind Waker made an exception because you'd otherwise be able to reach Flooded Hyrule before you're supposed to. Yeah, Wind Waker has unused, separate "Water Boots" that didn't get further development than the Iron Boots besides making Link hop into them. For plot reasons, WW Link can therefore not just sink to the ocean.
If you levitate as young link to Garudo Fortress and open the chest near the piece of heart, you receive a mushroom [or at least I did years ago when I got my first GameShark and tried this]
Why are empty chests not quite considered chests? I would've expected they open, then freeze on the animation of Link holding morning over his head and a blank or glitched text box, and not that Link picks up the whole thing as an object and then dies.
I remember this happening once in a Vinesauce stream when Vinny was playing Zelda Spaceworld '97 Experience hack. He loaded into one of the grottos, went up to a big chest as Adult Link, and was confused when he got voided. He thought the chest was a mimic and started shooting at it with arrows after getting sent to the shadow realm two more times 😂 Glad to know why this even happened!
you literally can't open chests in OoT with iron boots. in order to get the "underwater" chests in water temple, you have to lower the water. or use the hookshot on it and open it, which isn't the intentional way to open them.
To the people saying you can't open chests underwater in OoT, you're only partially correct. There are no chests under the water in which to open. However, as the OoT and MM engines are the same, it stands to reason that it is possible. It's not possible here, due to the chests being, as Seedy said, empty, which causes them to behave in weird ways.

Young Link didn't know how to cope, so he straight up ran away from his problems 🥺
I could have sworn that chests could be opened underwater.
Twilight princess you can.
Zora link can in MM
This is my personal Mandela Effect.
@notavailable4891 you're not alone
Same, with the iron boots at least...
Young Link at the end "I must go Termina needs me"
I love the Link's AAAAAAAAHHHHHH when fall to a void
"don't "
you expect me to NOT!?
Its wild that rather than the item it is, the chest itself gets put above your head
Link got too enthusiastic and grabbed the bottom, expecting an item, then lifted it above his head, consequences be damned.
Empty chests are Mimics confirmed
There's a second flag you can set that allows child link to use the hookshot without the softlock, but i dont remember the specifics

oh crap its like a mimic

This would be a great troll for romhacks
it took so long to figure out you could use the eye of truth to see what's inside chests before opening them
I got recommended this a little after watching a ZFG highlight of MM rando with randomized actors, which involves a lot of these zero-valued chests. 😆
😮 when Link stood on the chest after making it float i laughed
But you aren’t opening it, you’re picking it up

It's Zelda's version of a Mimic.
Link: "Kuraii yo! Kowai yo!"

Show us what happens when Link gets crushed and voids out in area where you can't normally be crushed and respawn.

Average mimic trolling 😅
reason for void out is probably acts as a failsafe when a chest falls on Link after activating a switch.

So Young Link becomes a Flying Mimic

Does this mean that there might have been a mimic chest that sucks you in and respawns you?

Now how does Child Link have the Zora Tunic?
If he goes for too long, his model starts to warp and eventually the game crashes, right?
What is that menu that keeps popping up? Are you using it to generate things like those treasure chests? How are you doing this, what program?
How does it work on Majora's mask though?
Didn't they change how no item chests work in Majora's mask?
Does the same happen in the 3ds version?
