Can I also just add how much I appreciate your videos Luke. Since I started painting again during COVID lockdowns two years ago I have been ploughing through your videos and so many other pro painters I respect and I am very grateful for the efforts you go to provide content for us noobs. It felt really good to just make this technical paint without having to buy it. Thanks mate. I really appreciate it.
My guy is really saving lives for those of us who aren't able to buy lots of paints at the prices most game paints sell for these days. From the bottom of my heart thank you Luke!
Luke you contaminated the test results at 4:55 by mixing GW's with your own blend then transfering that back to the GW without washing out the brush between...lol. But I get the point your making and have added this to my list of saved tip vids, will be trying this out when I get round to my Death Guard models. Thanks bud.
This is perfect. I'm doing some Nurgle stuff now and all the bases have puddles of various sizes and I was trying to figure out a way to do nurgles rot without breaking the bank. Thanks Luke.
@lukesaps really enjoy your videos and your helping me from throwing money around lol one thing I thought might be useful, could you do a video on the things you use like the matte mediums, glaze mediums, acrylic medium, gloss gel medium, etc and what are they used for and what can be made with each on. It would be really helpful to have that info all in one place and, kind of like a starter/base kit so we can have all the mediums ready to mix up when your videos come out. Cheers a bunch!
Really like these "How to make stuff but cheaper" videos. Please carry on making them. Any chance of making some "How to make tools but cheaper" videos ? I'm talking about stuff like a parts stamper, a brass etching folder and shaper, and especially a miniature rivet maker and a miniature nut & bolt stamper - like the ones that HP Toolz make, but as they charge £90 and £75 respectively, anything you could come up with would be fantastic. Cheers Luke.
Hahaha dude I have just come back to the hobby after a 20 odd year hiatus...got some brush skills back...painted up some models...moved on and felt brave enough to dab up a Great Unclean One and stunned even myself with the result haha. Was going to base this badboy up using a fookton of nurgles rot this is gonna save me a few quid and smash out a any gore effects with ease of any color in minutes! Nice one squire....love your channel man keep up the good work sir 👍😃
@Lukes Aps If you have it available, DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Green Gold is an almost exact color match. Worth checking out if you don't want to mix colors to try to recreate it, or if you want consistency between multiple batches. Just need to thin it down to a glaze.
for Typhus Corrosion you can use some aviary sand (make sure you get the finest grain you can find), some polish, and a little bit of PVA, plus your preferred paint
This is the Luke I love and saved me tons of $$$ with his Stirland Mud vid! Must I understand that if you put dark red ink in it gives you Blood for the Blood god? So 4 Technical paints down, 6 to go....;)
Amazing timing! I was going to try to work out how to do this myself this weekend. To be honest, I'd prefer it if the version I made was more yellowy and milky, like real pus. Anyhoo, keep up the good work!
Hmm I may need to work on this a little. My first attempt was time consuming because my paint was too thick. Watered it down a tonne but it still doesn't flow the same.
If you were to use a liquid medium gloss and skip the water (or less water) do you think you would get the same results? I have have no need to make nurgle rot at the moment but it's nice to have a bag of tricks ready for your next painting project.
Hey. What type of paints are you using as base to start. Acrylic gloss of whatever color with gloss medium to make your paint pot color. Or if you use matte color do you use matte medium to make matte colors? I prefer a matte finish mini painting,is what you made the same and if the GW[Nurgle matte or gloss] or whatever brand doesnt specify. A clarification on basic specifics how to would be helpful. Great vids and tips, watch them all the time. Good stuff Thanks
Love this video. I made my own using a GW green paint and water effect from Woodland Scenics. Would would be different about using water effect versus gloss medium?
A very late comment form me but I just made this myself using Monte Marte glossy paints, their gel medium and water and it looks pretty good! I have a pot the same size as yours and it probably only cost me a couple of dollars, about a quid I guess. I have zero models I can try it on yet but I guess I'll get myself a 'plague lord' or similar model off Etsy at some point. There's no way I'm spending AUS$280 for a Great Unclean One from GW. That price, like all of their minis, is a joke in my opinion. Now for the new Agrax and Nuln oil.
Well I'm going to get some gloss gel medium and then experiment with colours. I have a mix for nihlok oxide or whatever it is, so can send that to you to try and make a large batch off.
Im doing scenery like what you describe at the beginning, pools/silos full of Toxic Goop/Nurgles Rot. Was planning on using actual Nurgles Rot mixed in with Resin (Tried the pound shop stuff the other day as a test as recommended by you :) ) This looks far easier and cheaper but which do you think to get that effect, want it to look glossy like a toxic pond :)
Bah trying to link but not working. Found some Polyester Clear Casting Resin, 1kg for just over £10. This stuff be ok? Other option is GlassCast which ive seen for about £20 for 1kg
Hey mr Aps. Excellent channel! Thanks for sharing the tricks. Do you have any experience in making technical paints that crack when drying. Like Martian Ironearth and the such? If so, any ideas on how to make durable terrain with such a surface? Aye, best regards
hi luke, i goofied up. I wanted to use fluorecent green to make this cool glowing toxic waste effect, but the color ended up looking dull and gloppy. does this not work for fluorescent paints? just the solid colors?
Main color for their death guard. Since I use a airbrush for everything. their air deathworld runs about 6 dollars for one small pot. on a vehicle i can use up most of a pot.
I think he says in the vid that this is the same principle but use a dark red ink. Also the other alternative is pretty well known: Tamyia Clear Red acrylic paint with a little balck or dark brown mixed in it.
Hey Luke, So I have been trying to recreate what is going on here with no success. It seems as if my paint is just not “snotty enough” any recommendations? I can send some photos too if I get your email address
GW raising prices on the super addicted customers has been common forever. I haven't used a GW paint in years, (vallejo fan here) until last week when I bought agrax earthshade for 8.00 a pot that spilled over when I sneezed. Games Workshop can rot, literally.

I think a 'shopping list' in the description would be beneficial - maybe with links to amazon/affiliate too - time permitting :P

I saw that too. Made me laugh.
I miss your videos big time. Invaluable.
You sir, are a bit of a legend! Cheers for this.
These videos have saved me SO much money on paints by making my own.
Even more useful for us Stateside, Citadel paints are around $4.25 a pot around here, and I think the technical range is even higher.
Close to $10 AUD!
for me the gloss gel is more expensive then nurgle rot lol
This is perfect. I'm doing some Nurgle stuff now and all the bases have puddles of various sizes and I was trying to figure out a way to do nurgles rot without breaking the bank. Thanks Luke.
Oh man, I would be all over you doing a Typhus corrosion DIY. So excited about that. Thanks for these amazing tutorials.
I swear you have been looking at my search history because I was looking for exactly this a few days ago!!! Thanks, I will give it a crack.
Leigh Metzroth let me know how it works out on minis!!
Man you just can't imagine how much you've saved my life! This is gonna help a lot for my DG project!

Great vid, was looking this up the other week and couldnt find anyone who had done it cheers

Lucas ,Your Channel is a best one ! i like very much to look at Your tips and tricks about all that stuff with Hobby.

You save me sooo much money, which I then use for more models. Keep up the great work. I see that heroquest on your shelf, ahhh memories.
You are like the masked magician who unviels all the magick tricks of the grand magicians.
great stuff as always - also spotted you in that bbc article today too - so well done on that mate!
Always good to hear a good alternative for the expensive gw stuff
Good video Luke ;)
Great stuff Luke! Really enjoy these videos mate!
Great share thanks Luke
WooHoo! More Technical Paint How-Tos!
@Lukes Aps If you have it available, DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics Green Gold is an almost exact color match. Worth checking out if you don't want to mix colors to try to recreate it, or if you want consistency between multiple batches. Just need to thin it down to a glaze.
Fantastic video! This channel if a treasure trove us information. Keep up the great work!
I can't shake the impression that Nurgle's rot looks exactly like guacamole xD
If you use unripe avocados and a blender...sure. (yuck)
stop buying premade guacamole. M
The fuck kinda guacamole have you had man, Jesus
You're excellent. Please continue
for Typhus Corrosion you can use some aviary sand (make sure you get the finest grain you can find), some polish, and a little bit of PVA, plus your preferred paint
Another Fantastic Video Luke, Thank you.
@Lukes Aps you are absolutely amazing. The only way I could be more excited about this is if was Typhus Corrosion LOL. Keep it up good sir!

Great info, great series. I've subscribed and look forward to learning much more. Thanks.
Awesome! Thanks Luke!!
Great video. Very informative.
For a Nurgle video your hair is much too fabulous :3

Liked and subbed.
I saw you on the BBC article! You look sleepy, did you film this at 4am lol! Great vid as always

This was great!
Love these videos thanks !
why do you always make these videos the day AFTER i buy a pot of that paint?
He stalks your buying habits like Amazon!
Maybe he isn't slow, you might just be quick.
Could you please go buy a pot of Dry Ryza Rust tomorrow? I need to make a shitload of it.
You should rather ask : "Why are you always buying alot of paint BEFORE he posts these videos?"
Great eye Luke!
Thank you this was an awesome vid!
Luke lad you saving me even more money
thanks Luke
you are a magician
Great vid thanks for sharing
Hi Luke
Great video mate.
Could I ask where I can get tubs like your horrid rot one please?
Cheers
Rob
Brilliant 👍🏻

Luke, is that a warcolours bottle for the water you were using? That lid on it looks really similar to the ones I've got from them.
Any progress on the typhus corrosion recipe?
@@GeekGamingScenics Wow! Coincidence considering the age of this video!
For Typhus corrosion I've mixed weathering powders with washes and achieved almost the same thing
Hi Luke, great video. Are you using Yellow Ochre and Emerald Green?
Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to more How to make videos.
My batch is going on great but when it dries it’s looking more like a green wash losing color and shine, any ideas?
What about Astrogranite Debris and the new gw snow?
Well I'm going to get some gloss gel medium and then experiment with colours. I have a mix for nihlok oxide or whatever it is, so can send that to you to try and make a large batch off.
How was your nurgle rot experiment? I followed his directions and it does not have enough gloss.
Does any brand of gloss gel would work ? and what about heavy and super heavy gloss gel ? Awesome trick btw !
wow that answer was fast !! thanks a lot and keep on the good work

Lukes Aps for a shiny finish? Or other reasons.
Bah trying to link but not working. Found some Polyester Clear Casting Resin, 1kg for just over £10. This stuff be ok? Other option is GlassCast which ive seen for about £20 for 1kg
Also just seen your link to the CFS stuff and they do a 1kg tin for similar price so might just get that as I know it works :) Cheers bud
could you make one on making "blood for the blood god"? I'd love to have the same effect but in different colors
@@GeekGamingScenics I'd add some PVA glue to get the sticky factor
any progress on the rust or corrosion paints?
Awesome!
Brilliant
Would love to see how you make blood for the blood god technical paint
Use orange man's blood
Hey mr Aps. Excellent channel! Thanks for sharing the tricks.
Do you have any experience in making technical paints that crack when drying. Like Martian Ironearth and the such?
If so, any ideas on how to make durable terrain with such a surface?
Aye, best regards
Any cheap alternatives to the crystal paints?
For Halloween, my blood is just red and blue food coloring and clear corn syrup at about a 10:1. Could probably mis it with a gloss medium.
I got a feeling this might b a long shot but could u use that gloss medium as water ?
Lovely thanks for the reply buddy
hi luke, i goofied up. I wanted to use fluorecent green to make this cool glowing toxic waste effect, but the color ended up looking dull and gloppy. does this not work for fluorescent paints? just the solid colors?
would this gloss medium work for gemstone paint alternatives as well?
So like 2 parts paint, 2 parts gel medium, and 1 part water?
I tried the same ratio and it is not glossy enough.
So the paint is made to fill holes?
If this dries glossy like the original then this is perfect for what i need, saves me messing around with resin :)
would love to see a video on deathworld forest for the airbrush! i can't afford their pots
Main color for their death guard. Since I use a airbrush for everything. their air deathworld runs about 6 dollars for one small pot. on a vehicle i can use up most of a pot.
Use the normal paint, thin it. I NEVER use gw air paints, they are literally just thinned normal paints.
What exactly are the two paints you use, I see the other item is Reeves Gloss Gel Medium ?
Thanks and sorry but what are the two colours excatly ?
dude you are amazing! you are very talented. you made this one look so easy I might try it just for fun
GW are going to send the inquisition after you.
thank you man! can you do blood for the blood god next
@@GeekGamingScenics You're my hero man! instant sub
Handy Vid could have saved a few quid👍👍
These videos prove just how greedy Warhammer is? Tiny paint pots for $5 is ridiculous. Thanks Luke.
If you can do blood for the blood God I'd be interested
great vid dude :)
You should teach us all how to make gel medium next :D Great videos.
Will the IlluminArti be after you if you reveal that one? Seems like it's the best kept secret on the internet :D
my science teacher had a nervous tick at 4:55
Can you do blood for the blood of god?
I think he says in the vid that this is the same principle but use a dark red ink. Also the other alternative is pretty well known: Tamyia Clear Red acrylic paint with a little balck or dark brown mixed in it.

Hero Quest? 🤯
when testing it on plastik , you have mixed both colors together. :)
Tamiya Clear Red is pretty good for blood effects if anyone wants an alternative to bftbb.
typhus corrosion is just baking soda and brown paint
doooop
