  • I'm doing Ariane Cap's 20 week Cohort.
Each week you watch the videos of the unit. It comprises of finger exercises, theory component, bassline challenge, Groove and Fill. Mostly the same, but each unit can have something different.
Once you've watched the videos, you commit to the group what you are going to practice.in the first week.
In the following week, you practice, and submit your practice to the group in a video form.
This is my first video for the group.
    Feedback is always welcome!

I created Bass Rumblings website (www.bassrumblings.net) to keep all of my practice, songs, challenges, tips, resources. I hope to inspire people that you can start playing any instrument at any age - put the right practice in, and slowly develop your confidence.
I create a Facebook page to keep my thoughts of what I learnt, commiting to practice and other musings

I think this is great.... I have a social phobia and wouldn't be able to talk in video on purpose.... Kudos on your learning and having fun!

I can tell you that the first time that I even videoed myself was strange, but it gets easier. Maybe going to Toastmasters helped my confidence. I can tell you that I would never have done this 20 years ago!!
You don't have to post online, but videoing yourself playing is gold !! Delete your video if that's an issue for you, but seeing yourself play is a great way to learn.

I think your playing has really made a leap. That leads to a sudden and surprising big jump as things come together.

It's great when that happens... I just love practicing! (that helps!)

Can you provide a link to the course you’re using? What do you think of it now that you’ve been using it?

I started learning bass with Ariane Cap in 2021 and did her 40 week cohort. That's a lot of practice when there's only 52 weeks in a year :)
      www.bassrumblings.net/bass-practice/40-week-cohort-2021
The link above goes to my year and it gives you an idea what's involved.
You can find her book Music Theory for Bass Players (arisbassblog.com/music-theory-for-the-bass-player/) and there's a link to her online course on that page (although hard to find).. i strongly recommend the online course that goes with the book. It cost extra but I found value for money as it gave me a clear path for the year.
Tell her you found her through me. She'll be thrilled. She also has a membership component where she teaches songs-- check out my RUclips page or my website for reference to those. I also learn a lot from other musicians online too but you asked a specific question. I have it listed on my website. I give credit where it's due :)

My first comment may have seemed off. I am not a great communicator. I did really have a hard time hearing what you were playing. Though I can see what you are playing.
    Bravo.

The first part when I said note names could have been louder... I'll make sure next time. The parts where I played the bass, on my end, was okay. Perhaps you are listening on a cellphone which doesn't produce the bass sound very well.

@@bassrumblings yes my phone is old and obsolete

@@timothya2742 I can recommend that you bluetooth the sound to a speaker. I sometimes use my Marley (any speaker would do) to listen to music which comes from my cellphone.. That would definitely be cheaper and sound better than buying a new cellphone. :)

@@bassrumblings yeah that did it. I have a Bluetooth speaker I rarely use. I have to confess I am a guitar player who is Bass curious. I currently use NUX to get my tone and practice, record all through headphones.

@@timothya2742 You do realise that you are half way to being a bass player... top 4 strings of a guitar is bass :) I actually bring my guitar to jams and play it like a bass.
I actually have Scarlett Focusrite which I should use. I'll check out NUX ... I definitely need another system as I can't hear the backing track that well as it would come out louder in my videos!
