What's up homie, love to see my generation out there still Killin it 🤘💪 I started back at age 48, I'm 50 now. I think I love it more now than I did back then. Anyways hope you're still pushing and wanted to send some positive energy your way from southwest GA 💪 🤘
I just turned 39 with two kids chomping at the bit to hit that bowl at gateway park. It’s a pleasure to watch a fellow older skater out there having a good time. I’ll have to watch your old 90’s skate vids too and try to figure out the spots!
I’m 44 and your skating looks almost identical to mine. At this age we’ll never be as good as we want to be but with age there is the appreciation for what we can do and the knowledge that A Lot of other people our age can’t do it. We’re masters in our own time. Keep skating dude!
Right on. Age ain't shit. I'll be 49 in April this year, and I'm skating better than I have at any age. And I'm progressing. I kinda want to see if I can get sponsored at age 50+. I'll still get in the van for demos/tours (on my vacation weeks)
Heck yeah dude. I'm right there there with you at age 47. I took a bad slam on my face and broke my arm about 9 months ago. After that I got a case of CRPS which is where the nerves basically keep acting like the injury just happened and they stay in the pain state. Needless to say it's been a nightmare but it finally seems to be getting better with a diet change and lots of therapy.. I'm determined to be skating again by spring.
Im 44 havent skateboarded since my early 20's My son is 12 and I am making it my mission to get him out doors so WE bought new boards and he is giving it a whirl. He also said he'd like to try surfing which I also loved as a young guy.so next spring thats the mission .
He he , with you on this, 49 and faling on my ass every warm up session but a warm up session is not complete untill ive fell on my ass a few times...lol Had a big break due to being pregnant and a kiddlet being born in 2014/15 and started up again during covid just to get said kiddlet out of the house to burn up some energy. Its weird after you have kids that the big commit to the harder stuff is a bit bigger/harder to do now but im busting through them. Might be that i know that mums dont get a day off if i bust myself up AGAIN but in the last year ive been skating the 12ft sheet metal bmx vert ramp and the bowl again at the local park but i helmet and pad right up now as mums dont get days off and i have to set a good example. That first drop in was enough to give me more grays, kiddlet doing it almost gave me a cardiac arrest .. lol Stick at it, you wont regret it and word of advice, 30 min every day is better than an 2hrs session once a week to build up the old muscle memory and stamina again and always end on a high note. You wont regret it. Kiddlet is now 7 and she is on her well on way to being a good little skater her always self, pushing me on with her fearlessness of youth to keep up with all that bloody energy she has... SHIT they dont bloody stop and she is as insane as i was as a kid thats bloody scary now... lol Ive grown a healthy fear...she needs one! 👊The family that skates together, stays together 👊 🤘Skate for life !🤘
You’re awesome brother! It’s never too late to rip at the skatepark. Look at Rodney Mullen and Tony Hawk, still killing it in their older age on a regular basis. Have fun and be safe man.
I tried but too hard for me haha. I took up mountain biking again at 36 and started doing jumps for the first time even small gaps. In certain places/times most people seem over 40. Mountain bikers always wear helmets though. 😊 I wear hip protectors on every single ride. We got full suspension to mellow out the hits, try it ! Take care of your body and it’ll take care of you.
Yeah buddy! I'll be 50 in a week, and still love skating. For me, it's the fear (blew out my knee in 2001 skating) of falling and concentrating on committing. So much more information nowadays online, and that's awesome. Keep shredding!
That’s awesome I was an instructor at vans skatepark Orlando back when it was open I ran the pro camp and skate camp and I’m getting back on it too I’m disappointed I stopped because I had to work two jobs but now getting back on I’m recording it to show old dudes still got it too 🤘🏼👀🛹💪
I turned 40 a month ago. I like to think of it as I am creating NEW glory days on the board. Shred on brother! ps. that ride on rail looks fun as hell!
Right on! I picked it back up at 32 and within 2 weeks landed on my head and gave myself a concussion, and got an overextension strain on my elbow, which gave me like a 4” range of motion for 2 weeks. Anything beyond that range was brutal pain. Still have my kickflips and other simple tricks tho.
Keep rolling. Just keep rolling. Have fun & go fast. Just keep rolling. Maybe get some cheap knee pads. I got some tileing knee pads from harbor freight for like 7.99. Still got my Harbinger & 187s though.
This is me but you're a bit better! Yesterday I told a guy at the skatepark that I hadnt skated for 30 years; he couldnt quite compute that but was friendly haha
I would love to take slams. But in 04 I destroyed 3 discs in spine. 1 gone, 2 others half gone. They bulge into nerves making incredible pain. After nearly 20 years I had to stop overnight. My Mental health suffered badly. It was my crutch to get through life. Anyway, look after yourselves. When it's gone u will miss it.
One thing though is to not confuse poor health and lifestyle habits with age. Age obviously brings about changes we need to be aware of, but don’t confuse a lifetime of physical abuse to the body vs age alone. It’s not just good genes that some people are active for many years longer than others. Take risks, but take precautions with those risks.
Thanks I don’t know what took me so long to get back out but now I realized I’m super out of shape, I should’ve landed most of those and tried other stuff
I know we just met. And skateboarding is awesome at all... But at our age got to watch out for that concrete getting you. About 3 years ago I got a one wheel, and it was the best purchase ever. I highly recommend if you get a chance to try one do it. It's seriously a freedom machine
I bet you slept like a baby that day :D Man, I had to let it go at 40.. one bad kickflip took me 3 months to heal from. Only longboards for me these days
You're still hella good man. Once the muscle memory starts to kick in even more im sure the more fun you'll have as well. Keep it brotha, love to see it. Also, what year you start skating?
