  • We go deeper in the woods on whether or not the carbon traps and k&n air filters are really worth the big power that people are claiming.
What do you think?? Worth it? Or is it just hype?

Love the tech content. I will say that I haven't seen anyone lose HP or torque. I think you are spot on the reasons why the amount of increase is all over the board. Lack of control on the data. Timing would be the biggest one. If we are sending more air, we can assume that the ECU is adding more fuel. The question is does it improve the combustion event enough to add timing in a stock defined safe way? I'd say probably not. I'd bet back to back pulls stock with similar temps in the car would yield similar timing. So the improvements you see are based on more fuel and air and then the size of the increase is based on environmental/testing changes.

Very good observation! Either way - I don't think a few pieces of plastic and carbon are a GOOD thing for overall vehicle performance so I'd like to think that there is a bit of power available. My hypothesis is that in stock form, the power gains from removal or minimal.. BUT once you start adding parts and modding the car, you'd see those carbon traps become a greater and greater restriction

If there are any gain it will at the track , before and after . Thank man.😊

Only the factory engineers know the precise airflow is it enters and leaves MAF/Carbon trap section. That being the case, I'm reluctant to monkey around with my Coyote engine.

It’s a great free mod but it’s seem to very car to car, because we have draggy showing increased trap speeds but it ain’t no 20-25hp gain lol 😂

Thank you for this, what I have been saying is unless you have the ability to map the MAF on these runs, this system could be using similar strategies as the diesels are. They have a very tight expected signal and when it does not fall in that window it switches how it gets there. Everyone seems fixated on knuckle dragging flimsy data. The car is a hybrid speed density/maf system, no one has actually explained what they are truly using the MAF's for. When that data is logged, (someone connect an oscilloscope to it already 😂) and the 20HP mods are done it will be interesting what the ecm is actually doing, because I'm not sold on that being nothing more than a really dirty airfilter equivalent restriction...or a 50% 70F day vs the hell that has been this entire summer. Thanks for atleast thinking about what might be going on, rather than blowing smoke like everyone else.

Yessir! I'll never be a famous youtuber because I'm not interested in click bait titles and overall garbage content. My only goal is to share my passion with the world and educate those interested in learning about this great passion we call hot rodding
