For me the original Ratchet and Clank game is good but yeah it does have flaws. The controls weren't the best but it has a good story. With the weapons I used the walloper, Glove Of Doom, Drone Device, taunter and mine glove, with the Ryhno, devastor. If anything this game is better than the reboot of the Ratchet and Clank game which was made for the ps4. They basically cut off so many things that made the original game a classic for its time.
To be fair that and the movie were fake literally in universe the trailer for the movie implies their just acting and the game is told by captain qwark you know a well known lier
2:44 Mikey Kelly's voice as Ratchet in the first game sounds a lot more scratchier than James Arnold Taylor. Still sounds good though, it fits his arc in this game.
This is my favorite ratchet and clank game. It is somewhat by nostalgia, and I think objectively Rac2 is probably the best (haven’t played rift apart yet). Some of your points are very good but I’d like to say first off, I think the movement in the ot is so much better than ps3 onward. He moves fast and clearly, with ps3 ratchet feeling slow and the side flips and heli/thrust jumps feeling static. As for the combat in the first game, the simple weapons without upgrades work so well and make all weapons viable by the end (mine glove does suck tho) at its core, the original Rac was more of a platformer than a shooter, so the lack of aiming and strafing I don’t mind the lack of. Enemies don’t have difficult attacks to dodge and none of them are tanky so I think it works really well for the combat system without it being too easy or difficult. Gemlik base is a masterpiece of a level. David Bergaud was a great composer wish they didn’t ditch him after tools of destruction. Great video
Fair enough points to rebuttal mine. You did bring up a very good point with the weapons. One of the biggest issues later on is the first set of weapons you get just do not scale til the end.
Replaying the whole series in chronological order rn, after 15+ years I discovered that the 1st game is actually my favorite of the whole franchise after thinking for thé longest time that Going Commando was. GC's gameplay is definitely smoother and more fun with many new additions, but god that first game was just amazing, so full of imagination and great ideas!! It felt like just the right number planets too, where some other games in the franchise can feel a bit stretched out with some filler planets. And what makes the 1st game the best imo is also its music, which was sooo cool and new and original, and a little less action oriented than the 2 next games very violin heavy OST
There was actually a strafing fonction with the thruster pack in the first game, which even I had forgotten about until I went back at it recently with PS Plus. But yeah, the strafing on foot in the next games is more effective. However, I have to tell you I don't agree with you one bit on the soundtrack, I think each and every piece of the whole OST from the original game is freaking awesome.
I actually replay the original triology about every 2nd or 3rd year, theres emulators out for it It is janky gameplay, but i think they are all still great games and would 100% recommend fans or interested newcomers to give it a run/rerun
Um, there is upgrades for 10 different weapons. Some get added or increased effects. All do more damage. The effects colors turn green, and the weapons turn gold. You trade gold bolts and a sum of bolts for them, the first time most players will find them is on novalis in challenge mode, a teleporter is available by the ship. But theres also a room with some of them on gemlik base, that you can access on the first playthrough. It might not be by leveling up but some definitely get upgraded.
When I mentioned upgrades, it was in regard to the weapon changing on the first playthrough not subsequent ones. I will be sure to make that clear next time as I should have provided more context. I do however thank you for that clarification! :)
PS2's 3 separate scotformers came at the best time. They all equally shared buttery-smooth controls that no other company seemed to master. You turn around, but you end up u-turning for some reason. but not these 3. Ratchet 1 aged like...canned food, but it was a better game in a sea of companies trying to get used to a generation that mandated 3D
2:25 He doesn't sound the same as he does in later games...because he literally is voiced by another person, James Arnold Taylor voices him game 2 onward.
oh come on, i wanted to watch your R&C videos as Rift Apart is coming soon to PC, why did you have to put a scene from it at the beginning in a video about the first game, couldnt you have put a spoiler warning?
This is my favorite ratchet game. All the design is just well done

Man I can't wait to replay the PS4 version after all of these just to rip it apart.

Love replaying this, if you have access to Deadlocked/Gladiator, you should do a video on that too
Thanks for checking it out! I've been trying to replay them in order so Deadlocked will be next on the list.

Fair enough. Thank you for stopping by!
I play this game Sometimes on my ps3 or even on my ps2 but sadly it inst that fun anymore then it was back as a kid
You can strafe if you double tap R1 while the hoverpack (the butt slam one) is equipped and then holding one of the back buttons
Idk why but very few people know this... i used it a lot in this game
Good video, but why the music is so scary??😂
Experimentation xD only honest answer I can give you.

@@mattwells1036Don't be so literal son!
W video W game W series
How to git gud at Ratchet and Clank 1 in three easy steps.

The walloper is to be used against those bomb enemies on Gaspar.
This was and still is a very unique game even though it belongs to a big series.
Hmm you are correct! Thank you for the comment.
3:56 you can upgrade some weapons to gold to be more powerfull
You are correct. I should have addressed that issue better than what I did.
RUclips is broken. It says this video has 5024 views and 48k likes lol.

Veldin 2 is easy if you just use Visibomb
btw did you know that if you wear O2 mask you dont take damage from the enemies in Rilgar City
I used it but I also realized I just needed to git gud.
@@Natquerx the decoy glove also gets slept on in RAC1. They don't take long to blow up but you have 20 of them.
like no enemies will shoot at you from literally anywhere if you throw one out
If there is no ign watermark on the video you are using you don't need to credit them unless you are looking for attention
It's a shame they made so many sequels when my favorite tonally and narratively is the first one, not to say the others are bad though
Business is business I guess but I definitely see what you mean.
@@Natquerx yeah, Deadlocked can pass though
