      Would love to hear your thoughts on the battery life of Win Mini. As it is the total power consumption is more or less double of the TDP at almost any given TDP which makes the Mini one of the most powerhungry devices of this type. There are a few videos out there showing Mini running at 3W TDP and running a few indie-games (Last faith for example). It runs great and results in around 10h battery life but there are no comments on how it is achieved.

    I've been loving my mini. I will never buy another windows handheld without a keyboard. Its a game changing feature. No more fumbling around to get windows keyboard controls to work. Until you experience a device like the mini, it is hard to put value on that. I can assure you, its awesome. Comfort for me is so wonderful as well. I actually considered this over the steam deck OLED. I wanted a handheld gaming mini laptop. While it is a laptop design it doesn't seem like it can really double as a laptop considering the keyboard is so small. The GPD win max 2 is likely the better option but then it feels too big to be a handheld and at that price I'd just get a full fledge gaming laptop. I ended up getting the steam deck OLED. c’est la vie.

    • @GodOfGamingBG
      @GodOfGamingBG 9 месяцев назад +14

      The keyboard is super usable while you are holding it in your hands and using only your thumbs to type, which should be familiar from old QWERTY phones. Yeah its not so usable when put on a desk and using all your fingers, but you can just carry a compact 60% keyboard and perhaps a mouse for those cases, all together shouldnt take up much more bag space than a regular laptop and you get the benefits of being able to use it when you dont have a surface to place it onto, while you always need to place a regular laptop onto something before you use it. Im using my old GPD Win 2 for programming besides gaming, and thumb typing code is really not too bad

    I had a GPD Win I bought back in 2017. I played games on it, used it as a Windows streaming HDMI device to a TV, with a $20 Bluetooth handheld keyboard off Amazon, and it's still running today with zero issues. Yes smart TV's are easy, but having a Windows PC hooked up to your TV with a little controller with a full keyboard, and track pad in your hands is butter. Last year I gave it to one of my coworker's kids to have fun with, and learn the difference between a Nintendo Switch, and a PC. So I feel your GPD love. IMHO GPD were the forefathers of the handheld PC.

      That's because nobody does the work Nintendo had a point making the switch 720p I thought that was a joke til I actually bought my first handheld and realized Nintendo was right what I will say is battery life can actually be great within reason on the ally I was able to play most games at 10/12tdp and 720p medium settings at 60fps doing this I was able to get games to give 3 to 4 hours of gameplay I have the legion go now and with the much bigger battery I should get even better battery life once lenevo fixes the custom tdp you need to remember of bunch of reviews just turn the device to max and don't even test the low power modes I've been thinking of starting my own channel honestly

  • @robertwendal5894

    I honestly think the next breakthrough for handhelds is AI power management, being able to run the lowest TDP automatically without ever having to change the TDP. I think as far as APU's have come we're years from better handheld performance, now we need power management.

    • @substance90
      @substance90 7 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure you even need AI for that. How does the Steam Deck manage to pull only as much as it needs? On my OLED SD I almost never set custom TDP profiles because it only pulls as much as it needs for each game.

    • @robertwendal5894
      @robertwendal5894 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@substance90 the same reason Helldiver's runs at 20fps versus Ally"s 40-50 on hard levels, because valve is limiting the TDP, just as Nintendo does on the switch. It could run games even better but valve gives you no option to increase the TDP, 25watts is where Ally or legion crushes the deck. When in theory the Deck could get 20% more FPS if they weren't natively throttling the TDP.
      AI could sense everything from being plugged in to increasing TDP based on a set baseline frame rate, it could also precisely relay the amount of time you will be able to play at that TDP.

    Not to mention every time I've seen someone try to modernize software like that, it just ends up a dumpster fire. So I rather they leave it and not break it and offer a balloon window that pops up if ya mouse over something.

      Hello. Dude here. I love the Win Max format. The point I was making is that _in my opinion_, the controls and keyboard are *both* compromised and that's not something I personally enjoy. I made that clear so that all groups of people can make their own decision. If that's something that you would be fine with because of the size then my wording makes it clear that this sort of compromise is one you're probably willing to live with bc yeah it's quite pocketable. But if you're more like me and prefer full fat controls then you may not be pleased with the "master of none" deal. Everything has tradeoffs and it's my job to explain them - which I believe I did but just like me and mine - you're entitled to your own opinion.

      i am a proud owner of asus rog ally.I have no problem with windows on handheld. I have been using windows for years and i never had any big issue. I think people just exaggerate their problems with windows.

      @@rameshgurung1040 nope no exaggeration windows is awful windows used to great but ever since windows 8 it's gone down hill I've been using windows 10 for the last 6 years and I never thought about it then I started using Linux on my secondary laptop and I loved it a lot of the gripes I had with windows 10 did not exist and it was great I then Installed Linux as a dule boot option and I have a steam deck and just imagining windows 10 on deck and all the issues that would come with it sends chills up my spine
      Windows 11 hopefully fixed some of the issues I've had Windows 10 but I honestly don't care to find out.

    gpd and ayaneo have to learn that they have no business charging more than asus and lenovo if anything it should be less

      Lol maybe not asus and Lenovo are gigantic PC manufacturers who have huge contracts with businesses all over the world they probably get all the components for less than half of what gpd can get them for.
