    Fantastic video. I made the exact same modifications, except for those related to the RTL-SDR (including the same screen protector). I also own a DevTerm and a GameShell. The only thing that bothers me about these devices is that the community-provided distributions are not monitored, so, out of paranoia, I end up recompiling them myself.

    Does it run a custom kernel? I don't want another pocket chip situation where after a while it turns into a paperweight because you can't use a mainline kernel on it. This kind of device should last decades.

    • @xxHANNONxx
      @xxHANNONxx 2 месяца назад +2

      I'm don't any kind of expert, but he said you need their distribution due to drivers for some stuff like the screen, which would imply they aren't in the kernel already. I'm not sure how hard it is to install drivers on Linux if the distro doesn't make it easy for me, but I imagine the Pi 4 will be supported for some time.

    • @sn0ren
      @sn0ren  2 месяца назад +17

      You can build the kernel yourself with the neccesarily drivers. The community made ones use a newer kernel than the stock image.

    • @zarkonesmall

      It is also interesting why you would need a new kernel on such a device like a pocket chip? Of course I can imagine, but just genuinely interested in your particular application

      @@zarkonesmall Security and features. Generally it's a bad idea to have a device connected to the internet if the kernel is too old, and the ability to update the kernel enables the use of new software and peripherals down the line. I’m been waiting for my computer. In 9 more days it will be 120 days. And the emails are coming slowly in. They did ask if I want my money back and I said no I want my computer.

      stop "waiting". I've ordered mine and they've roughly met the 90 business days mark( although i've ordered with RV core), but daily checking of shipping thread on their Discourse srsly doesn't help. It will arrive eventually.
