This dude just saved me from getting my transmission rebuilt. Changes the throttle position sensor and reprogrammed it and no more problems. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
Thank you so much! I have a 2012 Escape with 75000km on it, and was experiencing slow and sloppy/jerking shifting. I thought my trans was crapping out on me. Had no trouble codes or anything showing up on my scan tool. Just replaced the throttle body and went through the recalibration process. After taking it on a long test drive, my Escape drives like new. I have repaired my car a bunch of times using your videos. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos that you do. They have saved me a bunch of time and money. Take care!
My elderly neighbor has a 2015 Taurus that he bought new. Living in New England when it's cold, his transmission slips or gets sluggish. Only when it's cold out. I'm going to let him know about this. Thanks Makuloco for your time making this video's. People out here do appreciate this. Merry Christmas brother!
@@FordTechMakuloco hey I have a problem with my 08 Lincoln Navigator my rpm keep going up and down at 30mph to 45mph I already changed my transmission and the fuel filter and spark plugs no codes are coming on
It took me 3 years, but my problem was something different. Slow shift, car would slam into gear when shifting, rear end would jump around, and throttle would open up and rev continuously. My pcm switches were corroded and had moisture. Some electrical cleaner, and light bulb grease(water proof) around the connection point where it clicks in place.(None on the pins) Fixed my ride from hell!
Thank You, this is exactly what my 2010 Escape has been doing for months. I have had it in 3 times and they tell me nothing is wrong. The TB is original with 64,000 miles.
Getting a VERY similar sluggish feeling in my 2015 Edge. I've had the pedal down to the floor (on a highway) and felt it struggling to get going. Taking it in soon and will definitely bring this video up. Thanks!
I realise this is old, but I'm just looking for known issues on a 2006 Ford 500 with 138,000 miles. Not having any problems. Thanks for posting these videos. John
Very helpful. I have a 2010 f150 and it’s sluggish on takeoff during colder temps. I’m sure you have just saved me thousands of dollars on unnecessary transmission repairs. Thank you and God Bless
Makuloco, you make the best videos! As a former auto technician and current aircraft technician, you troubleshoot and diagnose exactly as an instructor would. Thanks for all your help! I'm in serious need of some help with my 2009 Ford Flex transmission. Jerking, shuddering, crappy MPG, etc. Google Ford Flex slipping and you will find a HUGE pile of discrepancies with no repairs from the dealership! They just tried to sell me a $4500 transmission! Constant jerking and slipping going on at lower RPM's with minimal speed. Plugs, coils, trans fluid all check good. Feels to me like the torque converter is locking up, no way to verify though. Any suggestions?
Had this problem with a 2006 Five Hundred. After replacing the electronic throttle body it drives the way it should. Thanks for the video. I might not have figured it out.
Note: Although Ford didn't do a recall on this, they did extend the part warranty to 10 years, which includes all related repairs leading up to its replacement.
I have the 2016 eco-bust, and lately, while going uphill, I have to put my foot a little deeper into the pedal to get it to downshift. It used to be nice & sensitive. Not anymore.
So its probably the transmission.. It has 143,000 miles on it but it looks amazing like new. Dam I wished I lived near you so u can repair my car and my wife's car.. I'm out in northbridge, Massachusetts..
I just had a 04 Escape 3.0 220,000 miles that was surging, stalling, idling erratic, shifting weird, doing all sorts of crazy things since weather turned cold. Someone had cranked up the base idle screw to around 800 rpm /w IAC unplugged. I wiped out the throttle body, cleaned the maf, and reset base idle to around 550-600 rpm. Computer got full control of idle back and could react properly to a/c clutch engagement and other loads no problem. But the shifting is still a little funny. Monitored TCC slip, commanded gear, mlps, fuel trims, vehicle speed sensor, trans fluid temp. All looked good. Triple checked trans fluid level. This video makes me wonder: do you think base idle calibration got off from a worn throttle body which is also messing with shifts? I don't think I graphed TPS while driving. I just assumed tampering.
Chad Ross No those are allot less sensitive and the plates on those usually don't have no wear issues either. If it was out of the control limits it would set a code for such for the IAC. At that mileage anything can be off in that trans especially when the torque converter material plugs the filters in those.
Have a 97 ford f150 4wd auto trans. It shifts hard. Ford said transfer case gears were torn up, been told it was the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) replaced the speed sensor since it was bad and is still hard shifting. Only does it overdrive option, not the 2nd and 1st gear option
Good video, but given multiple situation I have been through I've been 100% successful with cleaning the throttle body and updating the pcm with the latest calibration that addresses these stubborn throttle body issues.. They just increased the tolerances for the throttle position sensor along with a couple of other changes..
Excellent video! Very useful! Can you share more details about how the symptom of "slow shift" is manifested? Im asking because i have a Fusion Titanium 2.0 Ecoboost AWD 2013 which have a very annoying shift delay (shift lag) specifically from 2nd to 3rd on high engine load and when the trans is cold. I monitored the SHFT_LAG PID with a scanner and for this specific gear change (2-3) can see values up to 1800ms (where other gear changes it sits between 500 and 800ms). After the trans is warm (running for about 30 to 40 min, where the fluid reaches around 90 celsius), this lag reduces to around 900ms. On light engine load situation, independently if the trans is cold or warm, the shift lag measured by the PCM stays around 500ms. I already replaced the whole valve body (solenoid body + main control) and it didnt change. I also checked with the scanner the control signals of solenoids SSA/B/C/D and observed that, on high-lag 2-3 shift, the change of control signals of SSB/C (both turn off from 2nd to 3rd) occurs is a much slower "ramp" (around 2000ms to complete) compared to the low-lag 2-3 shift (around 1000ms to complete). This makes me think that the PCM may be receiving incorrect data from some sensor, which makes it to take the wrong decision about how to drive the solenoids on that situation. So, after some research, i ended up on this video form you. Since my scanner is hobbyist level, it dont have enough refresh rate to see those kind of erratic behaviors on TP1 and TP2. Maybe i should give a shot on the dark and replace the Throttle Body? Congratulations for the channel!
Local dealership is telling me it will shift shitty when cold. Taken it to them three times already. Going to talk to the transmission guy who did the work and show him this video asking if he ran THIS test after I specifically asked them to. The guy on the phone mentioned how it didn't give off any codes.... I have a feeling this dealership may be about to lose our business.
2015 explorer sport had this sputter under moderate acceleration (after easy acceleration). Did it 3 days in a row with cold 30 deg temps before warm up or closed loop tabels. I run 93 Oct and had 6k miles with an unleashed tune. When I could finally data log I could not recreate the problem and it has not returned.
FordTechMakuloco exactly what I did. Drove it directly to the dealer who couldn't find anything (no codes). Data logged both tuned and stock which was all within normal limits (but I couldn't replicate the issue, of course). BTW my dealer is "tune friendly".
Thank you for your videos, they're really useful. I've had similar issues with a Ford Fiesta 2012, after I took my car to the dealer for a battery replacement, I've been having some rough idle issues. The code that appears is a P0068. I cleaned both the MAF and Throttle Body, and also I made the relearn procedure that you posted in another video. After the relearn procedure the car will correctly idle, even when I turn it off and back on, but after a few hours, when I turn it back on it will continue to idle inconsistently, with revs going up and down between 1500-3000, do you think replacing the Electronic Throttle Body is necessary? Thank you for you time reading my issue.
I have a '013 Ford Explorer. Won't shift to third until past 30 mph, let off gas, idle down to 1 1/2 rpms for a smooth shift, other wise it shifts extremely hard taking out the overdrive. I was told this is a sealed transmission and servicing can only be done by removing the transmission. A co-worker had one with the same problem and the transmission died. I have looked all over for a replacement tranny and they all begin to die within 100 k miles.
Hey Brian, what do you think about Ford latest models? I'm really impressed! The revival of the famous Ford GT and the Mustang 350R! I think you should say a few words about these in one of your videos...BTW,I'm dying to know : have you ever worked on the previous gen Ford GT and what did you think of the car? Sorry for the OT...
My 03 Explorer 4.0 is shifting into 5th gear at about 35-40 mph, which seems to be too soon. VSS or possibly something like you're describing in this video? No codes or OD light flash.
I know this video is older but I have a 97 Taurus 3.0 ax4n transmission I just replaced shift solenoid B and I went to take it for a test drive and it starts off fine but shifting from 1st to 2nd possibly even third it revs up high around 3500-4000 rpm and shifts my brother was playing with the throttle spring earlier and it hit the red limiter at 4000 rpm I've also replaced the cam synchrizer and sensor
This is the description given for the trouble with an '08 Escape: "Something is going on with the transmission. I'm not sure what exactly is going on. I can get it to go through every gear without slipping or banging or anything weird if I lift off the gas for a moment and let it shift. It wants to shift at a higher rpm on its own. Like the timing is slightly off from when it should shift. " Does it sound like it could have this throttle body issue?
I got the transmission on my 2005 F150 replaced a little over 2 years ago. Would a "slamming" noise be transmission issue or could it be related to my u-joint or something inside the differential. There are times when coming to a stop and taking of it would feel like it slams when shifting from 1st to 2nd. Or sometimes slowing down to almost but not a complete stop, then slowly accelerating it feels like it "slams" or catches? Love all your videos by the way.
Different car, but would this be an issue on an 06 Crown Vic P71? I recently rebuilt the 4R75E in it with a Jmod and equipped it with the biggest cooler I could find. I noticed the 1-2 shift is a bit softer when the fluid is cooler (less the 150F) vs when it is warmer.
charlie dee they are supposed to hit second and third hard,,,, that's a performance shift,,,, people used to put shift kits in for it to hit hard,,,,. But if it's low on transmission fluid it will shift a little late and hard,,,,, if it's full or a little over full it will shift early and smoothly,,,,!!!!
Yes, I know that. That's why I did the j mod. Mine was doing the same thing he described, and like his problem mine was solved with a new throttle body. Drive by wire adds some issues when it starts acting up.
I have a problem that appeared after I changed the battery in Ford maintenance, where I noticed the irregularity of changing the gear from the first to the second and its suspension until I slow down and step on the gas gradually so that I can drive normally....the problem still exists
Hi, thanks for the update! I seem toe have this problem after replacing the battery, doe yo think relearning will help? I drive a XJ8 3.5 with a I believe a LS (FORD) same engen kind Lincoln LS. (Europe)
Would this issue also cause the trans to keep the RPM high when driving up hill? The only way we can get the car to down shift is to let off the gas pedal momentarily. Then all’s fine. 2005 Ford Five Hundred Limited 2WD
ok! Ive got one for you. My 1990 Lincoln Continental is sluggish when taking off. Also, when slowing for a stop it slams into lower gear. I had to change the IAC due to a crack and thats when it got worse. Ive tried a few different IAC and all still have the same. Ive tried screwing the throttle plate to lower the idle and it still does it. Being an OBD 1, could it be the tps or something?
John HotRod you probably need to clean the idle air,,, or replace it,,,,. You probably need to disconnect the battery and drain the capacitors,,,, and do the proper procedure for it to relearn throttle body,,, position,,, blade angle,,,. Must be done exactly as his other video show,,,,,,
My 12 Escape does this too. after i cleaned it it got better for about a day... Should I buy a genuine one, or are the aftermarket ones ok? Ford won't replace mine because it's not throwing codes.
OK so I bought a 2006 ford 500. and when I bought it it needed a new throttle body and a new motor mount. after I got those replaced. it worked way better I can go like 50-80 but only if I want to be between 4000-6000 rpm. for some reason it's not shifting passed 2nd. do you know why. please help. I'm tired of putting money into this car. if it's not worth it
I have the same issues with an 06 Ford Five Hundred. You said in the video the throttle body needs replaced. Would simply cleaning the throttle body and having the PCM relearn it solve the issue, or does the whole thing need replaced?
I have 209300 miles on my '06 500 and clean the throttle body about every 20k miles. It all started about 80k with surging and shifting issues, cleaning and relearning the computer does wonders.
Would this affect an 2007 expedition with 75k miles on it? I had a hesitation under acceleration and started to buy cops bit by bit to change out and then when the weather turned cold it got worse and sounds like what you have described. I have cleaned the MAF and even bought a new one and have a TPS but not changed yet and was going to change the plugs too but was waiting to run another tank of Seafoam to help to give the plugs the best chance of coming out without breaking.
FordTechMakuloco used to be just when trying to accelerate say from 30mph and above now from 0 and above. Also seems to delay in shifting sometimes going up but also when coming to a halt say at a stop sign but if I try to pull off the downshift has not happened yet.
Hello FordTechMakuloco, I have a quick question, I have a 2008 Ford Escape with the exact symptoms as you described. However, the 2008 Ford Escape has a cable throttle body. By replacing the throttle body do you also think it will solve the slow transmission issue? Thank you for your time. Plus your video's are awesome! Keep up the good work!
I have a 2009 crown Victoria that is sluggish and when I step in to it while cruising the rpm goes up high the drops down to normal is that could be caused by the same problem
Great Videos, I learn a lot from your channel! My 2003 Ford Ranger has a similar problem.... when it is cold, whe you start it up it will shift into reverse and back out of the driveway fine, then when you put it into drive, it'll move out fine.... but it won't upshift to 2nd. It takes about a half mile before it decides to upshift and then away it goes normally for the rest of the day. If we let it sit and warm up for about 3-5 min it usually won't do it. Is this typical of this TPS issue? Otherwise once its warm and moving, the trans as no issues at all while warm. No codes, but the MPGs are kinda poor for this truck also. I'd appreciate any quick advice, if it sounds like a bad TPS/TB or of something else. THANKS!!!
Can you use those OBD2 Bluetooth scanners with your phone to check for this issues?.. I went to a shop for PMS since the car hasent been driver for quite a long time couple of years, and when they finished changing engine oil, arm bushings, air filter and drive belt the Truck seems sluggish now, like im pressing the gas and im just not getting the acceleration like before and shifting gears seems slow too.. and I havent changed Transmission fluid yet also..
We have a 2006 ford focus zx4 2.0l automatic and we have too rev the engine in reverse up and down up and down and hold the brake till it jumps into gear if we keep it in reverse we got full power in reverse. every time we want too use reverse we have too do that. Any tips too what it could be im not a transmission guy but i do work on cars every day engine and electrical wise i also have solus edge scanner fully updated any tips? drive works great o/d works great as well going through all gears and no trans leaks what so ever
I just replaced the dying throttle body in my wife's 2011 Fusion a few days ago. I followed the relearn and calibration procedure in your other video after replacing. It seemed perfectly fine for the first two days, but it is now being sluggish to shift through the first few gears. Doesn't shift until 3.5k - 4k RPM. It's currently around 70 degrees here, so I know that weather is not the issue. Any ideas?
please help-- i have a 2007 escape 3.0 awd. automatic . The overdrive off light has started flashing & it doesn't want to shift out of 1st till i'm over 30mph. after witch it seem's to drive fine with the light flashing. Till i stop or make a slow turn then it's the same thing again. Love your video's now that i found them , but don;t see a match for this.
My 2005 Ford Escape has the slow shifting issue, feeling like the car is just bogged down (especially on a hill). It does this during any outside temp. Shifting itself though is very smooth. Have you seen this occur on earlier Ford Escapes? Mine is a 2005 3.0L XLT. Thanks!
my 05 F250 I got off the freeway took off would not shift made it to my destination truck sets cools off get in it it's working fine what may be the cause
I got a 2011 F-150 and it shifts hard into second when cold with no load light throttle. After it warms up it's fine. When I load the truck or tow with it, it's fine. I've had the fluid and filter change. I've had the recall done so it's got the current software. Anyone have any advice.
Have you seen any shift problems with the 2013 expo.sport 3.5 Eco boost? It just seems very lazy shifting 123 from a stop ,had it into the dealer ,they flashed the ecm made no difference at all ,I also noticed the gas mile, has dropped from 18 to 19 around town to 15 ,veh has 37,000 miles on it ,other then plugs ,I have replaced the air cleaner ,I think they do plugs around 47to 50.000 miles ,on these engines ,just wondering if you had any problems with these concerns, this veh had a lot more peep when first bought, seems like power has drop out quite a bit ,thanks again!!
Thanks for getting back to me ,did they up date plugs in the expo.sport ? 2013 or are they going with same plug # ,I thought you mentioned that on the f 150 ?did they keep the same on sport ?I no they run them fat (rich ) because of the twin turbo's ,but the amount off smoke out tail pipe ,is like a diesel black ,like when a diesel taking off hard from a stop were you can't see cars behind you ,I'm sure the plugs like you mentioned would be a good start thanks for getting back to me !!happy new year !
I have a Ford Ranger 2023 2.3L ecoboost it doesn't have a month with me brand New and the Transmision has a delay shift and on a flat road or up slop it feels like a light vibration but if you press the gas pedal a little bit it down shifts and it runs better , so I have to play with the pedal ether pressing or taking my foot off the gas pedal to get it to run smooth any advice will be greateful
is it possible to change the shift pattern, so that it shifts quicker and so it'll be peppier., kinda like when you step on the gas it goes boom boom boom........... and so on Thanks :) Art
Our 2004 Lincoln LS w/102,000 miles has shifting problems such as on occasion slams into 3rd gear or has long hesitation going into drive from reverse or reverse from drive, and also on occasion slips tremendously from 2nd or 3rd to the point of free revving to 3200 or 4000 rpm if you don't catch it then slamming into the next gear. All occasionally unhook the battery for a couple hours and it all goes away for about a week and then it starts the occasional stunts all over again. Could this be related to the t-body? Thanks
Will this affect the bogging, shutter when going up hills? Shop's been jerking me around and I know that its not normal, been like this since it was new (2018 F150 Fx4 Sport 5.0L). I've been keeping detailed records and lists of events and occurences to prove it. Worst with cold starts. PCM helped a bit but never lasts.
I have a delayed shift first to second. Do you think cleaning throttle body and the MAF sensor, then resetting the pcm would help? Its a 2012 ford fusion 4 cylinder.
Can a dirty MAF sensor cause harsh 1-2 shift and then a slight bit of rough running at highway speeds with lower RPM as if it needs to downshift? I can usually get rid of the highway speed roughness by turning O/D off.
C-6 - non-electronic - in an E350 bus /7.3 diesel ! It revs about 2500 rpm b4 shifts . It has 410 gears - it does about 35 mph getting wound up b4 shift. Meanwhile I sit and wonder OMG will this thing shift ??! NOrmally these will shift if you let off throttle at speed - nope ! I did a filter and fluid change - same behavior. The linkage was set up wrong b4 too, as in drive was half way to N. I wonder about kick down rod adjustment - any clues ???? Thanks for any advice !
It is called shift flare, generally caused by sticking solenoid or valve. I had that issue, dumped 1 bottle of Lucas transmission fix in, and it was immediately gone. But bang in reverse when cold showed up. Maybe i should start with half a bottle.
would a failing electronic throttle body cause high rpm for about a minute after being started? even after i let the rpm drop to about 900, my transmission slams into gear...but not into drive, it only slams into reverse. if not throttle body, then maybe vss?
i have a 2005 expidition 4x4 limited it takes like a minute to engage into D once it goes into it shifts fine runs perfect or when i rev it a little it goes into D its just that once you are in drive there isnt a problem could it be a pressure thing
Cant tge sluggishness in those low of temps be caused by the tranny fluid thickening up? My 2011 f150 was slow to respond to my actually shifting any gear to reverse.
2005GLI No LV flows nice in low temps. The concern you are talking about is usually a cracked pump to valvebody gasket. I show which one it is in my new video on the 6R80 coming out.
FordTechMakuloco man u should fire Ford and become the real owner because I'm a mechanic and I have made $40000 off learning from your channel because I work on Ford cars and I have replaced tons of throttle body which actually did fix it
I have a 2011 fusion with slow shifting when cold , been to the dealer 5 times and they cant fix it !! they said it cant be the throttle body because it does not show any codes and wont do the recall !!
My 2005 Ford Expedition is slow to engage in reverse no matter the temperature outside. Two seconds after putting it in reverse until the truck actually moves. Any ideas what the issue might be? Only 85000 miles and it's done it since I've owned it.
I have a 2013 f150 30,000 mi. I had hard shifts from 1st to 2nd. took it into the shop and my transmission needed to be completely replaced. got a new one and this one is doing the same thing. I keep taking it to the dealer. and they say there are no codes and they didn't feel it on the test drive. They reset the computers and give me the truck back every time. What the heck could be the problem.
Would this affect a 2009 Flex? We think the transmission is slipping when we're cruising anywhere between 45-80mph (& 1500-2000 rpt) and give it light acceleration.
+jmphydeaux Light accel after 45mph can be the torque converter sure but the more common cause is a cylinder misfiring causing the surge or jerking feeling.
Hey mate, I’ve got a. 2006 f250 5.4 and mine has just started doing the opposite. It is reviving really high amd not going into second. Is this a sensor? Any ideas what it could be? Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
My families 2013 Fusion can take forever to shift at time compared to everything else I’ve ever driven. But out of warranty now etc. think ford might pay for it?
Can you tell if its the throttle body in park? Or do you have to drive through the gears? My transmission in out of my truck now its a 2009 f150 with 130,000 miles it makes a slight grinding noise right after i shift into a gear.. light throttle.. fordtechmakuloco
I have a 2004 Ford e450 coachman rv. The transmission is hesitating to shift when accelerating to shift I have to back of the pedal and press again and it then it seems to shift up. I have to do the same thing for each gear going up. Your thoughts? I have no codes. Thanks for your time
Quick question. I own 2010 ford focus se 2.0l. I replace the engine w/ trans due to head gaskets, 121k on the clock power-train and drive-train, The trans shifts 1st, 2nd and barely into 3rd, sometimes doesnt shift 3rd and then does not down shifts. Any tips you can give
I'm looking to buy a cheap car to drive for Uber/Lyft. They require a 2006 or newer vehicle in my market. I just need it to last me 30,000 miles to save up enough money to buy a better and newer car. So for now, I've got $3000 to spend and have been looking at 2008 Ford Fusion. Many of them on Craigslist for that price with about 170,000 to 230,000 miles on it. Am I taking a big gamble by buying this model of car or could it be a good temporary Rideshare car? Thanks!
I have this same problem with my 07 expedition el. Only when its cold and mostly in 1st and 2nd gear. Majority in 1st especially leaving a stop sign. Real sluggish, then it jerks and takes off. What do you think, same issue with the throttle body. I already cleaned it and nothing is different. Thanks.
I just came across your video. I have a 2014 Ford F150 and it get a slippage or feels like a slippage from 2 to 3 when its below 40 degrees but its all fine once the engine is up to temp and trans. I took it to the local dealer and had all my fluids changes but i still get it and they said they couldn’t get it to happen for them. Do you it make be my throttle body also?
FordTechMakuloco I have an 09 expedition and sometimes it feels sluggish going up hill. almost like it not getting enough air. any ideas of what it could be? I have an CAI and flowmaster exhaust.
I’ve got a 2013 mustang v6 with bad hesitation and it feels like the trans slips and shift hard. No code (actually small vac leak code, think it’s the “gas cap” ) I’ve clean the MAF and replaced the Throttlebody! Hasn’t fixed the problem. Could it be the MAF sensor?
I have a 2011 F350 6.7 that has slow shifts from 2nd-3rd and 5-6 only when the truck is cold. This happens even in the summer when 75°at night. After a few miles as the trans warms it shift normally. 4/10 manufacture date. This truck has H&S programer and is completely deleted with 215,000 miles. This is my work truck so it is not driven hard. Any help would be great guys!
I have a 2002 Ford E350 van with a 5.4 engine and I just replaced the transmission. and it still doesn't move. Is there something I forgot? The torque converter is new as well. What's going on?
Hey makuloco, I met a transmission issue: delay engage from Drive to Reverse or Reverse to Drive. After u shift to reverse or drive, It feel like gears were slipping or jerking for 1-2 seconds while u push the gas, then it finally engaged. I went to dealer ship, they replace main control body. They also found a valve would not go down by its own weight but I am not sure they change this valve or not. Now it just happened again. Any idea? I really appreciate it.
This dude just saved me from getting my transmission rebuilt. Changes the throttle position sensor and reprogrammed it and no more problems. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
What car did you have ?
Brandon Michael 2004 Ford Expedition
Before RUclips, you were at the mercy of the stealership, deep pocket shop & the best you had for reference was chiltons
yup same here. 97 f-250 runs great now
Thank you so much! Take care!
I hope you have your own shop and you are making millions, you deserve it
My elderly neighbor has a 2015 Taurus that he bought new. Living in New England when it's cold, his transmission slips or gets sluggish. Only when it's cold out. I'm going to let him know about this. Thanks Makuloco for your time making this video's. People out here do appreciate this. Merry Christmas brother!
i love that you are god honest in what you stated. being a former mechanic i know you are doing that . keep it up.
I wouldn't perform the job any other way!
I'd imagine the first thing you'd check is the transmission fluid level and any leaks that might exist ?
@@FordTechMakuloco hey I have a problem with my 08 Lincoln Navigator my rpm keep going up and down at 30mph to 45mph I already changed my transmission and the fuel filter and spark plugs no codes are coming on

cjones4512 That just proves my point there is no codes so most techs just don't know what's wrong.
Getting a VERY similar sluggish feeling in my 2015 Edge. I've had the pedal down to the floor (on a highway) and felt it struggling to get going. Taking it in soon and will definitely bring this video up. Thanks!
2015 and 2016's are having throttle body issue again yes.

You rock dude! Wish all techs were like you
l have been pulling my hair out over my daughters 2110 fusion over this exact problem. Thanks for the info, it was the problem.
That's some really helpful information to be aware of! Great topic and coverage!
There also was a tsb for the trans valve bodies for those vehicles as well that would cause slow and harsh shifts...500,montego and freestyle ..
Harsh downshifts yes I have done many
Note: Although Ford didn't do a recall on this, they did extend the part warranty to 10 years, which includes all related repairs leading up to its replacement.
Alexis Ramirez my issue was pcm with same symptoms
Good info to know! I don't have anything that new. What year did this type of throttle body come out?
Always enjoy your excellent videos!
Dan'sMeTube 2004 this all started on the Fords
When I could finally data log I could not recreate the problem and it has not returned.
drusier I would dump the tune and retest.
Daniel Ordóñez it's probably the idle air control motor,,,, needs cleaned or replaced,,,. ???
did you solve your problem?
David Shoemaker low on transmission fluid,,??? Transmission fluid filter clogged,,,, ???
Rick Simpson brand new fluid and filter I'm thinking cats
This is the description given for the trouble with an '08 Escape:
"Something is going on with the transmission. I'm not sure what exactly is going on. I can get it to go through every gear without slipping or banging or anything weird if I lift off the gas for a moment and let it shift. It wants to shift at a higher rpm on its own. Like the timing is slightly off from when it should shift. "
Does it sound like it could have this throttle body issue?
I have a problem with my ford explorer 2012 it seems to not want to shift from second sometimes. I have no slamming
Did you ever figure out what it was?????
05 mustang gt aod 5r55s. Won't shift into gear until after 4k rpms. Weird noise from Bell housing
That’s a great job ,very good explanation
I have a problem that appeared after I changed the battery in Ford maintenance, where I noticed the irregularity of changing the gear from the first to the second and its suspension until I slow down and step on the gas gradually so that I can drive normally....the problem still exists
Hi, thanks for the update! I seem toe have this problem after replacing the battery, doe yo think relearning will help? I drive a XJ8 3.5 with a I believe a LS (FORD) same engen kind Lincoln LS. (Europe)
scannerdanner woulda figured it out easily he doesnt miss anything. nice video god tip do they have any tsb's for this?
phil holbrook Nope no TSB's you just need to know how to read this stuff.
Hmmm. I notice that during hard acceleration it feels like it sputters or feels like sporadic slip. Ford F-150 ecoboost 2012
Jose Mercado Those had many trans updates too.
FordTechMakuloco better take it in for repair then... Thanks Sir!!
I have an 06 GT mutang gt that surges between 2 and 3 on upshift. If I disconnect the battery, the problem goes away for a few days but comes back.
John HotRod you probably need to clean the idle air,,, or replace it,,,,. You probably need to disconnect the battery and drain the capacitors,,,, and do the proper procedure for it to relearn throttle body,,, position,,, blade angle,,,. Must be done exactly as his other video show,,,,,,
Thank you.And that would cause the sudden jerk and bang when going up hills?
No that would be a secondary ignition concern.
My 12 Escape does this too. after i cleaned it it got better for about a day... Should I buy a genuine one, or are the aftermarket ones ok? Ford won't replace mine because it's not throwing codes.
I don't have your software, but i get a bog if i slow down in traffic, then speed up again. my software isn't as granular as yours i think.
Hey Lee, did you end up fixing this? My 2012 does the same exact thing and was wondering if you figured it out.
Richie Evans When you accell from a dead stop or when doing about 45-55mph and trying to accelerate.
Same here...
I have a 2009 crown Victoria that is sluggish and when I step in to it while cruising the rpm goes up high the drops down to normal is that could be caused by the same problem
Was this it !
THANKS!!!
Anyone else have what seems like a slow full engagement in 3rd? 2013. Doesn't slip, per SE, just seems to slowly finish the shift.
Very good information. Thanks. Johnny
Any ideas?
Could you solve the problem? The same thing happens to my focus 2014
please help-- i have a 2007 escape 3.0 awd. automatic . The overdrive off light has started flashing & it doesn't want to shift out of 1st till i'm over 30mph. after witch it seem's to drive fine with the light flashing. Till i stop or make a slow turn then it's the same thing again. Love your video's now that i found them , but don;t see a match for this.
Fred Zirzow Sr. Probably low on transmission fluid,,,. Or possibly the electrical connections needs to be removed cleaned and plug back in,,,. ???
Flashing check engine is almost always a misfire probably need a tune up and maybe a coil or two.
Thanks!
David Stuart check the fuel pressure,,, fuel filter,,,. Probably a weak fuel pump,,,,. Over full on transmission fluid,,,, ???
Can any of the newer duratec engines and transmissions be easily swapped into the Ford 500?
I wish I could get you to look at my ford escape 2012
my 05 F250 I got off the freeway took off would not shift made it to my destination truck sets cools off get in it it's working fine what may be the cause
Scott Howe Yeah I would check the plugs before anything else but no we have not heard of any complains on the 3.5l in anything except the F-150.
No the SP534 is still the latest for your vehicle.
Thanks I'm sure gap is the same under hood spec ?thanks again :-)
They are still calling for .032" to .038" I would personally go with .030"
I have a Ford Ranger 2023 2.3L ecoboost it doesn't have a month with me brand New and the Transmision has a delay shift and on a flat road or up slop it feels like a light vibration but if you press the gas pedal a little bit it down shifts and it runs better , so I have to play with the pedal ether pressing or taking my foot off the gas pedal to get it to run smooth any advice will be greateful
is it possible to change the shift pattern, so that it shifts quicker and so it'll be peppier., kinda like when you step on the gas it goes boom boom boom........... and so on Thanks :)

Thanks
Tom Bixler On the LS unfortunately they are known for the pcm drivers going bad causing all of the concerns listed.
Thank you are these rebuildable such as I found on eBay where I send them mine and they repair it and send it back with no reprogramming required?
Yes there are many companies that fix yours so no programing required.
FordTechMakuloco
Do you have a preferred vendor to rebuild the PCM?
Could this be the problem when you notice a high rev and pause between 2nd and 3rd?
no
Thanks for your reply. Do you have a video that is related to that?
I have the exact same issue on my 2005 Mazda tribute ...
Wesley Jackson possibly a motor mount or tranny mount,,. ???
i have a 2005 expidition 4x4 limited it takes like a minute to engage into D once it goes into it shifts fine runs perfect or when i rev it a little it goes into D its just that once you are in drive there isnt a problem could it be a pressure thing
BC Viking See this is how they act and why I bring this up.
My 2005 Ford Expedition is slow to engage in reverse no matter the temperature outside. Two seconds after putting it in reverse until the truck actually moves. Any ideas what the issue might be? Only 85000 miles and it's done it since I've owned it.
Mr223wssm The most common fix for this that I see is to replace the valve body. Is the fluid full, clean and not burnt?
I have a 2013 f150 30,000 mi. I had hard shifts from 1st to 2nd. took it into the shop and my transmission needed to be completely replaced. got a new one and this one is doing the same thing. I keep taking it to the dealer. and they say there are no codes and they didn't feel it on the test drive. They reset the computers and give me the truck back every time. What the heck could be the problem.
Would this affect a 2009 Flex? We think the transmission is slipping when we're cruising anywhere between 45-80mph (& 1500-2000 rpt) and give it light acceleration.
+jmphydeaux
*RPM
+jmphydeaux Light accel after 45mph can be the torque converter sure but the more common cause is a cylinder misfiring causing the surge or jerking feeling.
Hey mate, I’ve got a. 2006 f250 5.4 and mine has just started doing the opposite. It is reviving really high amd not going into second. Is this a sensor? Any ideas what it could be?
Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺
My families 2013 Fusion can take forever to shift at time compared to everything else I’ve ever driven. But out of warranty now etc. think ford might pay for it?
Quick question, if a phaser is starting to go “5.4 f150”, will it make my truck more sluggish to want to shift down when accelerating?
My 07 F150 idles rough and bogs when u give it gas to downshift. I’m going to try a new t.b. No engine light. Feels like a four cylinder
Mike Bedard any update?
I have the same problem on my 2012 f250 and the dealership said it was normal. Have you had any f250 come in for this?
john C No never
I'm looking to buy a cheap car to drive for Uber/Lyft.
Thanks.
thanks dude lots of help
I just came across your video. I have a 2014 Ford F150 and it get a slippage or feels like a slippage from 2 to 3 when its below 40 degrees but its all fine once the engine is up to temp and trans. I took it to the local dealer and had all my fluids changes but i still get it and they said they couldn’t get it to happen for them. Do you it make be my throttle body also?
What causes my 1988 E150 Econoline van to burn or loose transmission fluid??
Hi, could you be getting high RPMs (3-4k) when this problem occurs?
It could get up to that before it shifts but it would not be a normal slip shift or shift flare between gears
What if the OD light comes on with these types of problems? Ford ranger 2004 3.0
It shift smooth when I go slow but boggs down when I mash it at all
Hey makuloco, I met a transmission issue: delay engage from Drive to Reverse or Reverse to Drive.
Do the two tps signals suppose to match and mirror themselves? Thank you....
They should be inversely proportional to each other.
