      For reference, it really didn't sound like it, especially since this is the internet.
      You'd be surprised how many people are completely apathetic to an excellent story. I mean, look how many people hate The Witcher 3 because the combat's a bit wonky.

      @@buca117 Old comment, but I'll reply anyway: Hating game play mechanics does NOT mean hating the story. There are plenty of shitty games with good stories. Besides, for me, a good story in a game is a just a bonus, and certainly not the main reason why I play that game.

    I'm surprised that it took you 12hrs to beat the game. I'm a little over 7hrs of just exploring and doing tons of side missions and just now I'm planning on meeting Miller at the task force hq for the first time. I'm actually going to continue exploring the city before seeing him. The city is massive and this is just one section. This is easily going to be a 30+hrs for me.

    • @eaflores93
      @eaflores93 8 лет назад +6

      30 hours in and just started mission 7/8 an awesome game if you try to collect and explore everything before continuing with the main storyline. I think the game has 12 side missions and 16 main missions so i guess im halfway there.

    • @AgentCell
      @AgentCell 8 лет назад +4

      same here over 30+ hours. I'm still doing some side missions but I can feel like I'm reaching the climax. Probably an extra 5-7 hours and I'll be done with the game. Easily an amazing game. Hard to put the controller down.

      The problem with MD is it feels like it's gonna be huge then you realise the Prague hub is it. The missions taking place elsewhere feature little to no real exploration and are mainly linear with a few extra pathways (vents) here and there. Then the game just ends. Legit thought I was about halfway through when the I finished the game the first time.

  • @CriticalShot1
    @CriticalShot1 7 лет назад +140

    i finished it at 40 hrs, i think u missed a lot of side missions gggman. the side missions in this game u find by exploring thr city.

    • @treefingers6572
      @treefingers6572 5 лет назад +16

      I think Gman has proven to be more of a fan of linear shooters, and when a game doesn't throw a thousand markers of side missions on someone's screen, they might end up thinking the side missions are only going to be super obvious ones, whereas Deus Ex takes the subtle "happened upon it" approach, whether you took a wrong turn in the sewer or noticed a particularly strange sight through an otherwise unsuspecting apartment window.
      I wish every game with side missions would be that good at it, but for now it'll just stay as the reason Deus Ex is my favorite series, and I'm incredibly excited about future games and the way they use increasingly better development technology to make the most detailed, expansive, dense hub areas the series has seen. Prague, Hong Kong, Hengsha, Hell's Kitchen... All amazing, all ecamples of why a combination with extremely polished design could make for something incredibly immersive.
      It's been a dream since I was a kid to play a free roam game with every interior building unique and one you can enter. That seems like the natural next step for the series if they get manage to pull it off without destroying our CPU's.

      @@treefingers6572 I totally agree with you, making divided is the first imercive sim I've ever played and it was delightfull to explore every nook and cranny of that city,it almost gave me some Metroidvania/classic JRPG vibes by the lack of hand holding,but I still have not finished the game though
      But a lot of fans of the series say it's kinda of not as good compared to human revolution and others of the series,mainly because of the not as good story apparently.and I must say that it kinda looks like it,the way they showcase the media and themes of the game looks a little too simplistic,kinda like watch dogs 2,and no where near filosofical as people make the series to be
      I may try deus ex 1 to find it out though

      I'll play the Arkham games and I'll do every side mission EXCEPT for finding EVERY Riddler Trophy.
      Nigma can rot in hell, waiting on me, far as I'm concerned...
      So I can kind of understand if some people don't feel the need to play anything outside of the core story. 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @CriticalShot1
      @CriticalShot1 3 года назад +2

      @@BigBlackGuyReviews true the riddled ones were a bit dull, but dude in mankind divided these side missions are amazing. They're like legit self contained story missions. But u have to seek them out, explore the city to find them. And they progress and open the further u go into the main story. So u could miss some if u just plow through the story, return in later chapters that side mission is gone. So I can see how people didn't see or miss them myself included.

    There is no way doing all the side quests and the main campaign only took you 12 hours, even if you were to rush it all, skipping through the dialogue and knowing where everything is before the fact.. There are 12 sidequests and 17 missions. At least all of the sidequests each take an hour to complete, let alone the multi-phase missions in the utulek complex or G.A.R.M. or the final mission in london.
    Besides, the game is incredibly replayable, with so much versatility in gameplay, you can tackle missions in a variety number of ways.

      It really depends what the game was going for and what should happen if the player goes off course. I remember in the first splinter cell game, it was basically game over and have to restart a checkpoint if too much alarms were raised.
      Stealth games today usually allow alarms to be raised and the game to still go on, but that does not mean combat should be encourage in said stealth game.
      Even if someone takes an action oriented approach, they are better off taking enemies out silently before direct combat as fire fights becomes more easier if there are less people shooting at you. Even then it is better to hide and make the enemies search for you in order to take them out one by one. (use them vents when you see them)
      Also remember to use them augmentations as some of them can help in direct combat.
      And you can still hack stuff for xp and stuff.

    12 hours is a ridiculously low estimate especially considering you said you tried to explore and do all the side quests. I'm at 25 hours in and I'm just finishing off mission 12 and from what I can tell I've still got a bit to go yet before completing it. That is with doing a lot of exploration/side quests and trying to read most of the the ebooks and pocket secretaries, hack all the safes and vaults e.t.c. A lot of the story is hidden in these things and you're missing out on a lot if you skip it.

    • @Gggmanlives
      @Gggmanlives  8 лет назад

      @DannnyL 8 лет назад +4

      Well then you rushed through it. Deus Ex games aren't designed to be rushed through, there's so much story and content hidden throughout the game and you have to go looking for it. This isn't new for the series. Obviously anyone can play the game the way they see fit but they will be missing out on a lot of the experience if they choose to rush through it. I just think it's unfair to call this a 12 hr game after saying you've explored as much as you could and done side missions when people who have actually done that are reporting 20hrs + at least.

    Deus Ex, based on the hours played, is one of the best Single Player Campaigns I ever bought. The hours of enjoyment I have gotten from this title can only be equaled by multi player titles like GTA5 or BF4. The Dead space games come close, but when I check at STEAM the single player game I have logged the most hours playing over the years is this one. I am in fact playing through the last two again as I type this. If money spend vs hours of enjoyment are used as a basis of judging a game … Deus Ex defiantly ranks as money well spent.

    Deus Ex is the one game that we should give a shit about the story.
    And this game story was so meh :\

    • @CyanideBlizzard
      @CyanideBlizzard 8 лет назад +9

      Well, to be honest no Deus Ex story was really ever something to write home about. The first game was mind blowing when it came out, but have you played it recently? Story wise, it doesn't hold up nearly as well. Human Revolution was probably the most decent, and even then I largely forgot most of the details. and I've played it three times.
      To me, Deus Ex was more about world immersion, as oppose to story telling. The story just accompanied the whole immersion process as I dicked around.

      *****
      Yea, the best thing about the story of the first game is not just what happen on the plot. But also the progression, how we always face a moral choice (even the meaningless) and how each conversation hold something. Even to small role NPCs. The way JC gave so many blows on both the NSF and the MJ12 operations was exiting. Meet the iluminati and they're ways of do things, Tong clan too. Even the start, who was Walton Simons.
      Idk, Mankind Divided just lack all that for me. First off, the way they gave us choices on HR and it has no weigh on the new game is disappointing (Invisible War did an amazing job in that aspect). Also, we kind of know already the game.. Adam Know about the iluminati and how it work, the game is just a linear path with no moral choices, Adam still just a pawn and alienate him self, it's all about megan again.... and we know how it will end... Augs will be wipped out and the black plague will start.

    • @byu768
      @byu768 8 лет назад +1

      i think invisible war gets too much hate. at least i had the choice of going lethal or stealth (unlike HR which gives more xp for stealth. didnt play MD but i assume the same), who to side with, etc. i also liked the funny engine physics in iw. it was hilarious tossing ragdolls around and smacking people in the face with the dragon sword or baton. also im not too big on prequels in general because like you said "we know how it will end." oh, adam's doing this and that? sorry, not gonna matter, because *cue the grey death from deus ex 1* all that hard work gone to waste.

    'Mankind Divided' seems like a graphically upgraded 'Human Revolution'. As said the graphics are stunning compared to its predecessor though it shares also some of its annoyances like the overdose of cut scenes; the 3th person hiding mode and a misty story. A stealthy play through is advised but I prefer to shoot my way through the levels. This becomes somewhat of a problem in the end where you are supposed to bypass the police. I got also annoyed with the alarm set off in every hacking attempt so one has to upgrade augmentations in that area as well. I am not a real fan of the series though I enjoyed this one the most.

    If I have to recomend someone this games, I would say Human Revolution before Mankind Divided, not just for chronological reasons but I really enjoyed most the previous one. Even taking that in account mankind divided is a good game, I finished it in 35 hours doing lots of side missions but not all, and truly, the game was made with stealth in mind. You can blast your way trough it but is generally harder (really harder) and the combat sistem not fully satisfying (to me at least).

      @Counter-Chicken 8 лет назад +39

      We should care. The fact that microtransactions, something that was once confined to shitty mobile games, are now in $60 AAA titles is beyond unacceptable. And what about the pre-order bonuses that you can only use once and for one save file? And locking augmentations behind day one DLC? Bull. Fucking. Shit.

    • @DrDemoman74
      @DrDemoman74 8 лет назад +17

      nope, you've just lost control. I understand your frustration- the pre-order save file issue is... unsavory, but you are acting incredibly privileged. 60$ is a steal for most titles, need I remind you certain games that were only around 3 hours long went for 180$ back in the day? The gaming market has adjusted for inflation simply. Econ 101 really. You act as if publishers owe something, they really don't.
      And I might add, praxis kits- along with credits seem to be extremely abundant in this game relatively to the last- as Ggman said. It seems perhaps it is an issue with the publisher rather then the developer. I think they put it in for the few people that want to spend money- that is all. nothing is required.
      both the augmentations that are "behind a dlc wall" are useless lol.
      "beyond unacceptable," no offense- that argument is insane.

    • @maskedhobo
      @maskedhobo 8 лет назад +7

      He is here to talk about the gameplay, if there are micro transactions then people will know. Does it suck? Yes. Can something be done about it? Yes, don't buy them. Then that will force publishers to make devs chop games up like Destiny and others, or another game price jump. They have to get paid, and the devs don't get to make the choices on the money. I don't understand why people don't get that, the devs don't get to control every aspect of their game. If the publisher says you gotta do this and the devs says no, then they will cancel the game.
      That is just how business works. It sucks that games have come to this, but once publishers realized they could get away with it, they will continue to try and squeeze our wallets dry.

    I can see that you haven't experimented much with the game before reviewing. You were complaining that the experimental augments overheat your system, but very early on you can get a calibrator to remove the concept entirely. You said it's just a DE:HR clone with more augments, however, the environment, story and gunplay is way better, and isn't that what you expect with sequels?

    only few issue I have with Human Revolution is the fact you have to wait several second in between knocking people out with melee since for some reason it drains your batteries which doesn't make a lick of sense, since your suppose to be a super human, and you're suppose to be able to punch people all day.
    Another is how ridiculous the fall damage was. I mean did Adam got glass legs or something? How does falling 5 feet almost kill you?! Come on your supposed to be augmented a regular human can handle falling 5 feet but Adam can't?!

    • @MightySavagE
      @MightySavagE 8 лет назад

      Yeah, fall damage is ridiculous. High battery drain is there, so you dont run around insta-killing dudes with x-ray vision on. Its the same way you pick up a gun, and there's like 3 bullets in it - balancing.

    • @mad_scientist5597
      @mad_scientist5597 8 лет назад

      i guess the fall damage might be so ridiculous to make you spend those 2 praxis points on the aug so you can utilize high drops in missions or such shit but otherwise it really doesn't make sense as i can recall one time the aug helped me in a mission, and that was a side mission anyway. otherwise it just helps you save time while travelling
