    Question! will try to be short. had an Lb7 with 400k on it. I did injectors on it twice, second time was rushed and didn't go so well as you'll see. Fired right up and sounded beautiful. In park, sustained 3000+ RPM for a few minutes no problem. no smoke no oil leaks at valve cover, balance rates at idle are 0, +/- .1, great. 2 miles down the road, at about 50 mph, loud knocking noise on passenger side bank and a copious amount of white smoke out of tail pipe, does NOT occur upon restarting engine. Until I reach 50pmh, like clockwork it happens again. but that's not my concern. After a few rounds of this I got rather frustrated and to my everlasting regret, stomped on the throttle after the knocking noise occurred and the engine understandably went dead. re ignition yields the sound of a healthy starter spinning and a very loud thumping noise on passenger side. Engine never fires.
    depending on what I might have done.. I'll pull the engine and tear it down and try to get it running again. Any thoughts on what I did when I stomped on it?

    • @ynotitsme
      @ynotitsme 4 года назад

      Did you ever find out what happened to your engine when you stomped on it? I had the same exact t thing happen to me a week and a half ago. Very dissappointing...

    These remind me of another pain in the ass that was the Perkins TV8.540M, a marinized tractor twin turbo diesel. The cooling system was a haphazard design, and required frequent service or else you had to buy expensive aluminum housings. Just changing the raw water impeller and removing the sea grass from the tube bundle heat exchangers were excruciating projects. Assembly, like this one was critically sequential, or else..

    Give everything a good bath. WD-40/#800 Emery cloth with shoelace the crank journals, spray it all down with brake cleaner, throw in new crank & rod bearings, rings, gaskets, and soak the injectors in cleaner and blow out.
    Flush all oil & coolant passages. Reassemble all. Send it. Quit being so melodramatic- the bearings did their job; the crank is way tougher than the bearing.
    All is not lost.

    Well done video and excellent mechanical skills! I just did injectors on my '03 CA LB7 (with EGR) and I'm almost sorry I didn't pull the engine. Just kidding, of course. I notice your upper valve covers came right off since they can be a bear. I used a large block of wood and a heavy hammer to pop each end loose. Interesting to see all the bits beyond what I had to remove. Great job!

      Duramax oil pumps are extremely simple and reliable and rarely fail its more likely there is a problem with your stepper motor in your gauge cluster.

    duramaxes are nice motors but weakish rods kill the hp game and most of the cheap ones u come across need them injectors. yea you can do 1 bank at a time or figure out which ones bad. 6.0s are just as cheap and injectors cost a little less but the stronger bottom end helps a good bit

    Second questions I need to know
    We were asked by our mechanical repairer for buy a long block Sent here to Australia which we did as we thought .
    My son in law here is a mechanic and said to me we got a short block and not a long block which in all honesty I don't know the difference
    Can you please explain to me what we would expect on a short block and a long block ...not a turn key engine
    Thanks for any help given
    Cheers Mick
