In this video guitar lesson series, I will show you how to play "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake in it's entirety.
We are going to have two videos for this one. In the first lesson I will show you all the chords and guitar fills used throughout the entire song. I have also arranged the opening keyboard part for guitar in a pretty easy play fashion.
In fact, this opening keyboard part works very well on the guitar. You will have to play and lot of bar chords, but other than that, nothing is very challenging at all.
After that, the actual guitar parts come in with the full band. Most of the guitar lines are power chord based and there are some crafty little guitar fills thrown in there to keep everything interesting.
In the second video lesson I will show you note-for-note how to play the guitar solo. This solo contains a lot of very melodic guitar lines using everything from bends, slides and some muted arpeggio picking.
After this melodic sequence, the solo ends with a very climactic alternate picked guitar ascending guitar lick that will definitely be the most challenging part of the solo.
The real key to mastering this fast lick is to be able to find the pattern that is being repeated within it. I will demonstrate in the lesson how to identify this pattern, which is simply repeated 3 times, and practice it on it's own making learning and memorizing this lick much much easier.
Once you have the pattern down you will easily understand how to play this section. You will also learn how important it is to find the patterns that are usually being used within just about any fast licks you may comes across. Rarely is it just a random collection of notes.
So I hope you enjoy learning this smash hit from the hard rock eighties!
    Carl...

This one part of this solo... that running climb... going down.... starting at the 8th fret on the low E string.... going all the way down to the 19th fret on the high E string... 25 notes. Less than 2 seconds.
    SUCH A DOOZY TO PLAY!
I've been practicing just that portion of the solo ALL DAY, ALL YESTERDAY... I still can't fathom how I will ever be able to play it as fast as it's supposed to be.
25 NOTES, across all 6 strings, played in less than 2 seconds...
Am I alone for thinking that's incredibly difficult? Granted, I only started playing guitar 6 weeks ago. But I've been practicing daily.
To be fair, you barely hear any individual notes and can hardly hear what's going on when you play the actual 1987 record. And it's kind of a blur even by the original guy.
And yes, I'm picking up and down, so my technique isn't that bad. I mean, at first I was attempting to pull this off with only my beginner-level downward picking only. I quickly hit that roadblock. I had to start picking alternately, with up and down picking, to double up the speed, or I'd never get to play anything fast. That helped.
    Any other tricks I'm missing?
Anyone else hit this little part of the solo and find it very hard to master?
Of course I will continue practicing until I got this run down, I worry I will never get it right because I'm missing something, some technique, that makes it possible. Or, is it possible most people don't play all of the 25 notes in this run? Do most people just skip a few? That can't be the answer, though. If it is, that seems unfulfilling.
If you play guitar and read all this... I sure would appreciate your thoughts....

Great up until the last part I learn it this way but its wrong, It starts 8th fret on 6th string and move up in 3s. 8,10,12 -10,12,14 then same patern down through the strings, your way is actually harder, still sounds great though.

James Segrue Make it your own. Reb Beach taps that fast run and he plays for Whitesnake. My solution is a legato run from around c ionioan/d dorian up through e phrygian, then just those last few notes on the high e so it ends sounding like the orij. I'm never gonna pick that pattern accurately and can't be bothered practising it. I just incorporate stuff i do practise.

Try having your hand at a perpendicular angle to the fretboard, makes it easier for your hands to stretch. Then when it gets comfortable it will naturally move back to the slanted way.
