Great episode. Thanks for this. I’m from the UK and only found Nick a few months ago, but immediately loved what I heard - not just the distinct sound but the directness and lyricism. I’ve always enjoyed the sound of country, just as I have blues, jazz, bluegrassand a whole bunch of other music that originated in the US, but found the popular music that claims to be country completely bland in lyrical content, dealing exclusively in cliches. There isnt really any genre of music I cannot love so long as it has some musicianship, creativity, sincerity or cultural substance underpinning it - everything else quickly becomes tiresome and superficial after the initial novelty. When I first heard Nick perform it just spoke to me immediately. He’s doing his thing without apology. Gotta love that and I love his whole style too - I’m no punk, I earn my living as a lawyer.
