RIP Carol Ann Susi who portrayed Mrs Wolowitz. I think they did a good job honoring her death, respectfully writing her character passing away into the show.
If I recall correctly, Leonard's speech about Mrs. Wolowitz, echoed how the cast felt about the actress that played her. It was more of a goodbye to her.
If you watch closely, every episode they did after Carol Ann's passing has her picture on the side of the fridge in Sheldon's apartment, it's a small wallet size one but they said they wanted to honor her by making her a part of every episode they did, so she is technically in every episode of the show.. :)

he was supposed to have died quite young. he lived a very long(and no doubt very challenging) life even with the health condition he had. it's amazing how he developed the skills to do complex maths in his mind.

Btw Sheldon is a big fan of Firefly, because the writers of Big bang theory are.
Fillion also starred in the detective/comedy series "Castle," which I think you'd enjoy. It's my second favorite TV series of the past 25 years, right after TBBT. There was another episode of TBBT (I forget which) where Sheldon was complaining about how bad the "Green Lantern" movie was, and said that they should have cast "lovable rogue Nathan Fillion" in the title role.
It's a perfect combination between humor and a common life issue, because you'll never know when is your time. This episode got me as much as the episode when Howard burned his father's letter

Wow. This episode hits so much harder now after watching the finale of Young Sheldon end its series run and it match up now to adult Sheldon's story about his father here. Christ, the timing. The Young Sheldon was just two weeks ago and still fresh in everybody's head. Not a spoiler because since Big Bang Theory's days and Young Sheldon's entire seven run History we knew what was coming. But now to hear Adult Sheldon talk about how his father's passing effected him, and a decade later we now know the extent of that pain, and how it created the Sheldon we know today, fused together with its time-jump past Big Bang's timeline to our present day now 2024, really makes for compelling television. But most of all it really brings back how hard this moment for the show hit the series losing the real actress playing the mother forcing the creators to write her death into show. It's an incredible piece of work and amazing display of top-tier talent how well this is handled. Beautiful. Artistic. Pure poetry.

When I first saw this episode(The Comic Book Store Regeneration), I thought they were just going to play off Mrs. Wolowitz like she was still alive and on vacation and write her off the show or replace her. It has happened before like when Dick York fell ill and he was replaced by Dick Sargent in the comedy show Bewitched. Or when they replaced Suzanne Somers with Jennilee Harrison on Three's Company. Since we had hardly seen Mrs. Wolowitz up to this point , I thought that they were simply going to replace her. But when Howard got that call and announced to everyone that his mother had died I became extremely upset. Not at anyone in particular but that's just what happens when you feel close to someone whether you know them personally or not. 🤧 Watching all of this in hindsight I am extremely impressed with how Kaley Cuoco handled all of this. In case you don't know, her cast mate and her father-in show, died suddenly of a heart problem in 2003. 😟 I thought that the show, the director and producers all handled that with class and integrity
