Owning a Ghibli is a lovely experience but don’t expect much respect from BMW / Mercedes drivers! I think they see the car and think “Damn that’s what I should have bought”
I can honestly say it’s almost the perfect sport saloon. the proportions are perfect. The sound is sublime.I Owned the first Gen in 2015 and its was a bit of a let down in some areas especially the tech and some interior aspects from Chrysler that I think this series 2 seems to have sorted. Buts it’s getting expensive now unfortunately at well over 200k plus options. New M5 or this?
Comparing the Maserati Ghibli to a BMW or to a Mercedes has no sense imho: we are talking about 2 different cosmos. Maserati has a design that is simply uncomparable and is an incredible eyecatcher, its interiors recall the Italian style that made their fashion designers so successfull in the world. The Germans are all about the idea of perfection but without a soul. Driving a Maserati is an emotional experience.
since Doug mentioned it i've been paying attention to that aspect in many cars. And I feel that Doug picked on the Maserati a bit too harsh i've been seeing it left and right on other premium cars too.
Wouter van der Molen You buy a BMW because it’s a BMW, but you buy Maserati because it’s different than a BMW. To be honest with you, I think the 2018 Ghibli is actually pretty darn nice, but some of it’s weaknesses are still present.

Blake Swan it is because people don’t rate Italian cars as being reliable in general, and because if you are spending a considerable amount of money you are most likely going to look at new cars. Not just a Maserati thing, the resale is poor in our market on just about anything that isn’t a Toyota SUV, or an Australian Muscle car from the 70s.
2018 model seems better then 2014/15 where maserati took customers for granted hoping car will sell just with the badge. Afraid all this new effort might be bit late!
I've owned many high performance cars (RS7, M5, Charger Hellcat, Tesla P100D) and have extensively driven the different Maserati models because I'm a total car nut, they simply don't match up to the Germans in most regards. I know this pisses some people off but putting this against an A7/S7 or an M550xi would be a fail on just about every metric. You must drive these models vs. the Germans before you can pass judgment, don't make a call based on the emotion a Maserati can envoke. Fun fact, the engine block has been made in both Detroit and Kokomo Indiana...."under the supervision of Ferrari"
This might be the car I need. As much as I liked my 340i f31, I bought a Giulia Quadrifoglio. I liked this car even more, the handling is just spot on. But the 2.9 v6 couldn’t grow on me. The power was great but I missed the high pitched tone from my straight piped 340i. I took a different way and bought a Maserati Levante S for comfort and the sound. It is not fast. It does great off-roading. It does have a nice sound. It does a lot of things right, even though the Germans have better solutions for multimedia and fuel consumption. But the Maserati just grows on me. I test drove a m440i gc this weekend. It didn’t remind me at all at my 340i. It feels to modern. No connection with the gearbox and the road. Braking even with m brakes was horrible. It is a good car, but doesn’t bring that smile on my face again. Reminding me of the Giulia, damn what a great car that actually was. Maybe the best I’ve ever driven, except for the soundtrack. I’ll take it over my previous Ferrari 488 spider on a mountain road in Austria. So much confidence. Now I miss that sportive driving. I have decided to test drive this ghibli. I hope it has what the Levante has and brings some enjoyment back for driving on country roads like the Giulia and older 340i.
What? It’s starting price is $200,000 aud, and pre owned at the moment, is still $140000. That’s only because the initial drop is huge and then it depreciated slowly over time.
Yes it depreciates, but it doesnt depreciate 70% in 12 months. You'd wait around 3 years for £30k. But by then youd be eyeing up the newer model. Never ending cycles.
I’ll take the 5 series it has MUCH more technology and 540i model has twin turbo v6 with an actually better 0-60 time also it cost less and you won’t end up losing money thanks to Maserati’s HUGE depreciation besides ghibli looks like Kia from behind
yes it does have more technology. I owned a decked out 5 series SUV and it was a disaster/money pit. All that impressive technology is part of the problem with bmw and reliability. Everyone knows this which is why many just lease them. Go look how cheap used BMW's are. They lose 70% of there value for a reason.
This car is for people who thinks Maserati is still a high end luxury brand and doesn’t realize it was brought by Gm and currently clinging onto its Chinese market just to stay alive.
Maserati is all about that distinctive exhaust sound! Thats about it! The exterior is stylish. The interior is ok but no more nicer than a top of the line Jeep Grand Cherokee. German interiors are far far more upscale, especially Mercedes and Porsche. Ghibli has good handling, but not better than the Porsche Panamera. Reliability sucks and parts are absurdly overpriced just like most European cars. You are better off with a V series Cadillac than a Maserati. You'll get much better performance, lower maintenace costs and superior reliability for the money. Go for Porsche for better handling and exclusivity. Go for Mercedes for the best interior. And of course, but Lexus if you want something truly well made and reliable. Never buy European cars new. They loose their value tremendously in the first 3 years. Never get one with high miles, because they all fall apart after 50k miles.
Just note that Doug's D. Video is full of errors, he is obsessed by M5 and hasn't figured how things work on a real car...such as the dual climat controls for instance.. The door gap is in his brain too. Just leave the key in the trunk and close it..with the M5 you WALK home...
This car would be a fun lease for a couple years then id just go back to my BMW 5 with M sport package and drive it like I stole it for 4 years again no problems.
I leased one and was disappointed. The car looks sporty and performance is great. The interior needs to be seriously redesigned and more features added as a standard package. The maintenance is expensive and the soft tires wear out quickly (12K on the front and 15k on the rear tires). Poor investment, but if you're looking to project a certain image, the car delivers. Looked at the Alfa Romeo Giulia. Another poorly designed and over priced Italian vehicle. The car feels like you're riding in a sardine can with tires. Again, if you want something different, the Italians have the Maserati or the Alfa Romeo. Both are money pits, overpriced and poor investments.
A well equiped Ghibli is with Cayman boxster the least devaluating GT's surveyed on our local EU market but lease of a cheap one is uneconomical. All options incl. Rear heated seats for siberia are available but heavy with a bigger battery etc...Your bashing against italien top quality cars is innapropriate and reflects maybe a bad service by untrained personel on good but new unknown products. Here our Ferrari Maserati dealers are top since many years...
@@philgooddr.7850 This guy is so off the mark. I had the pleasure of driving my brother in laws Stelvio Quadrifoglio and it is hands down the nicest and best performing and handling sporty mid size SUV I have ever driven. His previous suv was a Porsche and I also have driven the BMW X5 M which a great all around SUV that within 4-5 years will be a serious money pit. People complain about alfa but I used to own a $68,000 (msrp was $75k) E60 M5 and I will never buy a BMW ever again. This car was nothing but a disaster for the money I paid. I don't understand how BMW has a notorious reputation for horrible reliability and yet people still flock to buy them. I understand if they are being leased in that case they are great cars. Here are the main problems I had with my V10 M5: 1.The engine! (reliability!!!) very very bad. Piston rings would break and many more engine failures and recalls. It's as if BMW never bothered to extensively test this engine before production. 2. Reliability of everything else on the car! (It once cost me $1,000 to replace the side view mirror because the motor on it broke! Overall I spent over $30,000 in maintenance and repairs on my old E60, including a brand new engine, and 4 clutches!) 3. Fuel consumption (I once got 6mpg on my E60!) 4. SMG Transmission (reliability!!!) 5. Oil consumption of the S85 V10 (The 10W-60 is expensive, plus it is only really available either at the dealership or online.)
Paul J Thank you, those unspecific critics of new highly competitive quality product is the sign that car or SUV is a competitive threat and most critics are from owners and salesmen of obsolete competitive products. Have Maserati Alfa, VW Audi and BMW high end cars in the family and as user only, I am most happy with my Ghibli Guilia and "old mama", an undestuctible 18 years old Alfa 156 twinspark. Even a german car which brakes and hold to the road has Brembo brakes and Pzero tyres, but since customer expectation have grown to this kind of italien level, I really wonder what great and new came recently up north from the Stuttgart area: nothing exiting really. Philgood.
@@philgooddr.7850 If I had the Money hands down I wouldn't hesitate to buy the Alfa SUV(Stelvio Quad) with the Ferrari co developed Chassis and engine. The new Giorgio platform which consists of both a chassis and engine technology that is pretty far ahead of it's time is estimated to have cost Chrysler somewhere around 1 billion dollars in R&D. This of course was justified since they will use that Giorgio platform in variation on the whole jeep line, the new 2020 Challenger line and a few others like the 300. Also Maserati and Alfa benefits from it as well. I never knew it could be so fun to drive an SUV that perform and handles like a sports car, well as much as one can having a higher center of gravity and weight. Also I have never in my life heard a V6 engine that sounds just as good as any V8 muscle car. You can tell having Ferrari's input was paramount. That Twin Turbo V6 is a further refined and improved engine derived from the Ferrari California. Previous Maserati's in the last 6 years were embarrassing in my opinion. I am so glad that since 2018 Fiat has brought Maserati back in the tough competitor fold. Nothing like driving an Italian car that performs, handles and drives with passion and excitement. Many German car are very COLD and Sterile. Although I do admire Porsche they are an amazing company. Problem is every Dentist, doctor, lawyer and real estate agent is driving one. They are so common and bland.

Just get a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
Akashdeep Singh Alfa Romeo Giulia is the best option
Other than the Italian engine and exterior looks, still just a Chrysler 200/300 inside.
Maserati is owned by FCA. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
This car is for people who thinks Maserati is still a high end luxury brand and doesn’t realize it was brought by Gm and currently clinging onto its Chinese market just to stay alive.
To choose a Maserati, you need more than money!

200 grand burning a hole in ya pocket 😂😂😂😂😂
Nearly 5 minutes before you start it up. Never been so bored in my life.
This wasn't a review, more like an advert. You should probably subscribe to Doug Demoura to learn a few tips about reviewing a car.
Sexy car I am in love.
Id rather prefer to have money not burning my pocker
I can buy a srt in that price
its M5 vs E63 Vs this Vs new panamera
I had similar options and I went for the Ghibli SQ4. Great choice!
Here are the main problems I had with my V10 M5:
1.The engine! (reliability!!!) very very bad. Piston rings would break and many more engine failures and recalls. It's as if BMW never bothered to extensively test this engine before production.
2. Reliability of everything else on the car! (It once cost me $1,000 to replace the side view mirror because the motor on it broke! Overall I spent over $30,000 in maintenance and repairs on my old E60, including a brand new engine, and 4 clutches!)
3. Fuel consumption (I once got 6mpg on my E60!)
4. SMG Transmission (reliability!!!)
@@philgooddr.7850 People complain and are still under the impression that ALFA today is same as they were 10 years ago. They don't understand how much money and R&D as well as restructuring has gone into the company. People still think they constantly fall apart and are a money pits, yet are happy to buy the worst money pit of them all, BMW!!!!.

Looks like Kia Optima
I like the old design
Rear legroom sucks and disgusting...
No
Can't wait for Doug Demuro to roast this car again
German cars = OVER RATED BOREDOM.....
Raf...Doug Demuro = KING DORK !!!
He's like a total jerk acting like a jerk
He didn’t roast this car though
This guy acts like he got paid by maserati
Ho Solas, For the record, this guy didn't get paid by Maserati. Thanks for taking the time to comment. James C
Just get a demon...
This car shares parts with the Dodge dart....
And it looks like a Dodge Dart.....your so White.
@@Qugie Porsche shares parts with VW. The parts that it shares are little plastic bits for crying out load.
It looks way inferior than Merc and OMG the interior's still this terrible?
Your comment tells me you are a real twat
les poignées de portes !!quelle horreur 😝
Nothing but a over priced Infiniti q70. Both the same size and shape almost.
Wait two years and you can pick up a 2018 for $50K. That is if you want to waste your money owning a Maserati. They are absolute shite.
This thing is nothing more than an overpriced Chrysler with a Ferrari motor. You might as well save a bunch of money and buy a Hellcat Charger.
They don't sell that pos outside US. Wonder why...
Get a Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio
@@Akash_singh10 I'm Italian... maybe you don't know Maserati and Alfa Romeo are the same thing... ergo... always wonderful.
Similar motors design and Platform...
Maybe you don't like Maserati cause of two or three Chrysler buttons.
Giuseppe Albergo the problem is Maserati is trying to sell the car by name not by how good it is. You can find the logo hundreds of times in the interior. And Alfa is selling the car on its Beauty. That is the main difference.
@@Akash_singh10 Maserati is better than Alfa Romeo... also in the driving dynamics.
Interior looks cheap as shit. All the switchgear, instrument cluster and infotainment is lifted straight from Dodge-Chrysler.
At that kind of money.... Tesla P100D
No way I just got stucked behind a charged mod S on mountain roads. Ridiculous rubber grinder, an heavy coal wagon on narrow wheels hissing their suffering at each turn and leaving black bananas behind. Where are the brakes where is the silent?..Even a Panamera does better....
This car is trash solely because it cant compete
