I find it funny that Christopher Lee voiced the Jabberwocky for only a few lines, only to have his tongue cut off at the start of battle. Missed opportunity to have his badass voice give great dialog throughout the fight.
It's a Disney Remake. It's meant to be full of missed opportunities.
The "tiny dress" that Alice wears is actually one of her gloves. You can see them in the dancing scene.
_ How to train your dragon liar revealed worked because Hiccup didn't lie for himself(he enjoyed the new fame but it wasn't the main reason) he lied to protect Toothless. And he didn't get exposed, he choose to revealed his secret to everyone step by step(1st he planed to tame the Monstrous Nightmare in front of everyone to prove that dragon can be friends with human then he would reveal his partner Toothless. But his dad agitated the dragon causing it to attack & everything went south from there)
_ The prophecy trope is usually mishandle, most of the time it's the only or the most important motivation the MC has(not because the MC love everyone & seek to protect them or the MC has a dream or....). In this movie specifically, they implied that the 1st time Alice went to Underland everything played out like in the book or the animated movie; in which case she has no reason to care about Underland as everyone there was a d1ck to her(trick her, take advantage of her, insult her, tried to kill her,...) & the only reason they treat her well this time because they need her(to her it should seem like they are trying to trick her to fight & die for them). Also the Jabberwocky wouldn't invade her homeworld & there are no reward she could bring back with her. So yes, this is a bad execution of the prophecy trope
_ The animated movie is just a fever dream Alice has so it make no sense & worked on dream logic. This movie tried to make that make sense which didn't work because it create inconsistency on when logic applies & when it doesn't
=> For this movie to work you need to add in more flash back(from the 1st time Alice got here) & make more changes in that flashback to establish that this is a completely new Underland(not the Wonderland from the animated movie or the book), an Underland that has its own solid logic & most the people were nice to her back then so she is actually motivated to help them. You could even have her doubt their good intention; but later reveal that back then they didn't know she was the chosen one, so their kindness was genuint
If only they did that to this film it probably would have changed my opinion on it.
Best prophecy plots for me isn’t a specific person to play out the role. But a role thrust upon people without them knowing it. Then it comes down to the individual to influence the prophecy for good or evil.
Otherwise it’s boring.
@@Davidofthelost There is the tragedy side to a true prophecy where things played out like it said. Because of the inevitability. Like Griffith ascension in Berserk
_ It usually best to keep a prophecy as vague as possible(just enough details to not make it generic) because this is the part you can't change
_ There is also the type where people know that you can't break the prophecy so the characters find ways around it. Like in Clash of the Titans cartoon: Chronos is prophesied to lose to 7 demigods so he never tried to fight the team heads on; he tried to seperate them or use someone else to fight them, until the last ep where he lose but they had to hurry to deal with another threat & can't capture him; he laughed saying:"the prophecy is fulfilled, there is nothing protecting them anymore" .Although the serie ended after that so this never got resolved
Yessss!!!! This is one of my favorite reviews of Doug's, I love this one! Thank you for reacting to it!
21:00 I'm still surprised the critic didn't say anything about Tart Frog's family also being executed for him eating the Queen's tarts. She likes to spread tadpoles on toast!
30:49 - 31:01 George McFly/Knave of Hearts:
"😍I am your density, Alice!"
If I made this movie, I would have the Calendar itself be the MacGuffin. The citizens of Wonderland have to find it first. Only Alice knows where it is because she hid it the last time she was there. That's where I would have the connection to the original story. Alice found the prophecy as a child but woke up before she could see what happened. Since she treated the whole thing as a dream, she forgot all about the Calendar and where it was hidden. The White Rabbit summons her back to Wonderland and the other denizens try to help her remember the previous encounter and the location of the prophecy. Part of her thinks this is just another dream while the other is afraid of what she'll find. After the rest of the action, they eventually find it only for the Knave of Hearts and the Red Queen's army to show up. In the ensuing fight, the Calendar is damaged, and the part of the prophecy that happens after the battle with the Jabberwocky is lost. Basically, they learn that Alice will fight the Jabberwocky but don't know if she'll live or die. This would be Alice's biggest fear. Not just dying, but doing so in a dream. I would play on the idea of "If you die in a dream, you die in real life." I'd used that part of the third act to dive back into her childhood after the dream, leading up to her father's death, and explore why she was so hesitant to return to her fantasy. The climax would relatively be the same, but it would appear that Alice died after slaying the Jabberwocky. As the Red Queen celebrates, the Knave and her army begin to disappear. The White Queen's army follow suit, and one by one, each of the inhabitants of Wonderland fade away until it is just the two Queens left. The White Queen realizes that because this is Alice's dream, it can't exist without her. The Red Queen dismisses this at first, until she sees all of Wonderland itself begins to dissipate. The Red Queen eventually goes too, but not before screaming her head off. The White Queen holds Alice's hand and whispers an apology before disappearing herself. All that is left is Alice's body in a dark void. When the White Queen is gone there is a fade to black. After a moment, a blue light begins to shine. It's the caterpillar, now a butterfly. He flies to Alice's pale cheek and whispers something in her ear before disappearing, too. Suddenly, the color returns to her body and she takes a deep breath. Wonderland begins to return, as does its inhabitants. Even the Red Queen and her people come back. As Alice rises, she realizes what the butterfly said to her. It was the same thing her father said the first time she dreamt of Wonderland: "Your dreams are what you make of them." She tells the others they never needed the Calendar because it wasn't set in stone. They have the power to choose if they believe. Alice marches up to the Red Queen, who cowers in fear thinking she will swing her sword and kill her. Instead, Alice drops the sword and holds out her hand. She declares that both the Red and White kingdoms will now coexist in peace and allows the citizens of Wonderland to choose what they want to do with their life. Whether it be keeping time, having a tea party, or playing croquet, they are free to do as they please. The two Queens will rule together and share in their dreams. From there, Alice wakes up, still rejects the proposal, and is instead offered a job by her no longer soon-to-be father-in-law to explore and chart a new land. That is a rough draft of my version.
Big Eyes was a decent movie about an artist who struggles with her personal life I did quite enjoy it.
Guess what;
There's a third live action Alice in Wonderland. Not a Disney film, instead it was made by Asylum studios.
38:14 Speak of Sam Riami. Anyone else notice how he didn't direct another movie for 9 years after that Oz film until Doctor Strange 2?
Yeah I think he was in that gap making Ash vs. Evil Dead while producing a few movies like don't breathe and crawl.
10:31 - 10:59 😒... Not gonna lie, *I would've* too if he kept going.
🎵I say that we take a cannon,
Aim at his door, and then,
Knock three times, and when he answers,
Danny Elfman'll be no more🎵
You’re so stupid, think now!
If we blow him up to smithereens,
We may lose some pieces
And Tim Burton will beat us black and green!
🎶You’re so stupid, think now:
If we blow him into soot and ash,
We may lose some pieces
And then Doug will be just orange and black!🎶
@SilentReaperOFC Of course, he's orange and black. *He wears that every Halloween!* So much so that people confuse who wore it first; him or David S. Pumpkins.
You should give Nostalgia Critic's Fanscriptions on 'What if Tim Burton Directed Batman Franchise' videos a review: Harley Quinn in Batman 89, Billy Dee Williams Harvey Dent in Batman Returns, Batman Forever with Billy Dee Williams Two Face and Robin Williams Riddler, Batman and Robin with Patrick Stewart Mr Freeze, etc.
42:54 - 46:30 No, instead of Adventure Time, Tim Burton tried adapting his own Fantasy YA series of movies with the 1940s X-men-- I mean, Home for Peculiar Children. 🤣Oh man, I can't wait for you to react to NC's review of Blade 2, where they have the sketch with Guillermo Del Toro and Tim Burton being compared with their style; whether in Doug's mind, they make great art, or are just rehashing/adapting work that's been done.
Jim Jarosz: "😟Don't worry, Del Toro. That's not gonna be you."
Malcolm Ray: "🤨Yeah, you're not gonna be remaking old properties."
Guillermo Del Toro: "😔... My next film is Pinocchio."
Jim Jarosz: "😅Well, *😰s-t!* "
To be fair, his Pinocchio was legitimately fantastic.
@@DaveMan1K It certainly looked better than Robert Zemekis' Pinocchio, or that one with Pauly Shore.
@@sebastianemond5313
Even beyond the visuals.
Go watch it if you haven't already. Can't recommend it enough.
47:02 - 47:24 Not alone there, Nate. With other people, they say Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro is their favorite, but me, Princess Mononoke, or Nausiccä of the Valley of the Wind are tied for number 1 favorite; probably more Nausiccä. That doesn't mean Spirited Away or My Neighbor Totoro aren't on my list of favorites. They are visually beautiful and creative with the ideas of the spiritual world. I just much prefer the ones with more grand and vast landscapes, intriguing characters amidst action packed battles, and the heartbreaking morel dilemma that has you look at all life as precious, which speaks volumes of Miyazaki's experience with the real-life tragedies of World War 2.
My only question about the cakes. Do they also make you more durable? If not then all you're doing is making yourself a bigger target
you know if they wanted to keep the war theme, how about the red queen wanting to invade alice's world since she went there as a kid and suddenly vanished. She could have told the queen about where she came from. Alice returning means the path to her world is open, maybe she forgets to lock the living door or something, with the key being a token from her father. Then Alice tries to get the rest of wonderland to stop the red queen from enacting her plan, but because everyone is mad no one helps her at first and its the friendships she made as a kid that helps turn some to her side and they make the stand against the red queen. she could face similar issues as her mother and sister don't listen to her, and no one in wonderland does or really cares what she has to say or think because they too wrapped up in their own little worlds.
*Also likes Princess Mononoke more than Spirited Away* High-Five!

I actually went to watch this movie in theaters when it first came out in 2010 because I wasn't old enough to watch piranha 3d
Imma be real, this version of Wonderland looks like something BATMAN's version of Mad Hatter would make! Which is EXTREMELY ironic, given how this is Tim Burton's vision! XD
Kate looks indifferently bored.
So par for the course?
@@jtherealmccoy5309She could probably be tired or something you don't know.

Thank you Caleb!
Thanks Caleb.

"When did that book (Pride and Prejudice) come out?"
Pride and Prejudice was published, no joking when I say this, on January 28, 1813. That book is gonna be 212 years old as of next January 28
well what's weird is in the cartoon her clothes grew and shrank with her, here only her body changes if they didn't want a plot hole about how she gets new clothes so she isn't in the nude why didn't they just have it that her clothes changed with her. It's almost like there was a plan to give alice a talent or hobby of making clothes or something so that when she grew or shrank she was able to make new outfits for herself, but for one reason or another this plan was dropped for time and now we just have a plot hole and alice not having any hobbies or interests shown
Oh yes this was an old favorite of mine of the nostalgia critic
37:50 HE’S SMILING LIKE FROLLO!!!
I remember watching one these movies when I was in middle school(We had a summer break). Back then I didn't like the movie and today I still like this movie. I prefer the animated version of Alice in the wonderland. There is something about this movie that makes feel disgusted and unhappy at the same time. I don't know.
Edit: When I was in middle school we had choice to watch the animated film or the live action. I think about two or so hands rose for the animated and three for the live action. I'm still pissed! Lol
I would say...imo the film is boring which isn't a good thing to be when the film is made by Tim Burton...also imo, the only characters I thought were interesting were the White Queen and Chesire Cat everything else, boring!
I would say the difference with American Mcgee's Alice and this movie is that at least when it does the wonderland stuff, it's still creative and fantastical, even tho it's dark. This movie is only edgy with no edge, not saying anything or adding anything. American Mcgee's Alice is dark and it actually tells the story it wants! And still keeps the drug illusions of everything! Basically, don't make Wonderland or Alice boring
12:25 Pride and Prejudice is 111 years old.
I didn’t have a problem with the mad hatter in this one. Usually, the hatter is shown as being crazy but more silly and giddy than psychologically unbalanced. Here, I bought it.
Fun fact: this _Nostalgia Critic_ episode is what made me realise that _Little Britain_ was never popular in America, as Matt Lucas plays the Tweedles in this movie yet there's never any kind of _Little Britain_ joke in the review.
It’s probably too British for most average American yokels to understand and relate. It’s kinda the reason why, for decades, Dr. Who and Monty Python’s largest followings in the US were regarded as geeks or nerds.
It’s also the reason why so many remakes of British media exists.
@@geoffreyrichards6079 Kind of like how I'm seen as a geek/nerd for enjoying the Gilbert & Sullivan operas - the humour is too dry and British for most Aussie bogans to relate to.
Princess Mononoke is fucking amazing. Period.
Alice in blanderland.
Can you react to his Land Before Time review next?
I can't believe that they used american mcree Alice for this review
You should react to nostalgia critic the mask

How about a reaction to Nostalgia Critic: Alice Through the Looking Glass?
Haven't seen the original animated movie. But this movie was blaaannnnddddd... Really don't agree with you folks here.
Especially her performance is wake uppppp!!!
Agree with Doug, no consistency. You can be mindless fun but have some consistency!!!
Liar revealed in HTTYD? Where?
Hiccup discovering dragon weaknesses through toothless to overcome the other dragons Stoick even calls it cheating
I love Tim Burton but i hate Johnny Depp! I can only sit through Nightmare On Elm Street, Edward Scissorhands, and Sleepy Hollow to be honest. I’ve always felt that he’s not a very talented actor and only manages to get by based on his looks according to his female fans. Burton’s best in my opinion are Beetlejuice, and his Batman films. Seems to me like Danny Elfman peaked with the score to both Batman soundtracks the 89 original and Returns. With that being said i also enjoyed his score throughout the soundtracks of the Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy.
Found Amber Heard's alternate account
Fat electrian eggnog riot.
Can you react team neighborhood episode one
i frickin' hate this film (and the 2016 sequel too). it's an insult to both the book and disney animated film (as walt disney understood the source material better than tim burton). even tim burton himself admitted to not like the book, wow, way to disrespect the lewis carroll fans.
why is the 1951 disney animated film an honest to god straight forward adaptation of the lewis carroll book(s)? they acknowledged it during the film's opening credits! tim burton failed on that for his pos film.
if it's a remake, why is it taking place after the 'supposed events' of both the book and disney animated film? it doesn't make sense as a sequel.
if it's a sequel, why do the characters not look the same as from the disney animated film?
(the dormouse is male in disney animated film, not female, and doesn't even look the same as the 1951 version),
(the mad hatter does not look the same as the 1951 version),
(the cheshire cat doesn't look the same as the 1951 version),
(the dodo bird does not look the same as the 1951 version),
(the red queen's card guards doesn't look the same as their 1951 counterparts),
(there's no red and white queen in the 1951 film, there's only the queen of hearts),
(tweedledee and tweedledum do not look the same as the ones from the 1951 film, as well as ripping off Pugsley's design from Addams Family),
(alice has personality and a clear character (played by kathryn beaumont) than mia wasikowska, who delivers an awful performance, and alice isn't a typical bland feminist action heroine, even ellen ripley would come in and say 'Bitch, fix your personality and stop copying me'),
and on top of it, if it's supposed to be a sequel to 'Alice in Wonderland', then WHY THE FLIPPIN' F#@K IS IT CALLED "ALICE IN WONDERLAND"?!
American McGee's Alice games are true in advertising: both American McGee's Alice and Alice: Madness Returns.
Alice in Wonderland 2010 is a turd with decent visuals in bullsh@t advertising and a corporate stupid sellout.
(mia wasikowska does fine acting in both The Kids Are All Right and Crimson Peak, but in tim burton's film and 2016 sequel, she's bland and awful),
(wonderland is no longer called 'Wonderland' and is instead called 'Underland', which is definitely an inferior name to a surreal fantasy world that celebrates having no sense and logic, as well as this film not only reuses tired chosen one and prophecy cliches, it also rips off both Lord of the Rings and Chronicles of Narnia, even the disney ones of narnia),
(see, surreal nonsensical fantasy doesn't go hand-to-hand with epic fantasy, one is not like the other).
and the scene of alan rickman (r.i.p., dude) telling mia's 'Alice' of her past and given us a flashback, the movie just literally shoot itself in the foot and HUGELY destroyed the film itself. wow, way to MAJORLY pissed us off.
i don't care that this movie made 1 billion dollars, by giving attention to it, praise to it and even liking it, you showed of encouraging disney to giving us live action remakes that are hugely inferior to their animated counterparts.
American McGee does a better job with Alice in Wonderland than tim burton. even McGee isn't a fan of this film.
the 2009 Alice miniseries on syfy channel is an honest reimagining of Alice in Wonderland than tim burton's film.
the 1999 hallmark Alice in Wonderland miniseries with gene wilder and martin short is a better live action adaptation than tim burton's film.
Several reviews criticized the decision to turn Alice into a "colonialist entrepreneur" at the end of the film setting sail for China. Given Britain's role in the First and Second Opium Wars during the Victorian era and the foreign domination of China through "unequal treaties", China expert Kevin Slaten writes, "Not only is it troubling imagery, for a female role model in a Disney movie, but it's also a celebration of the exploitation that China suffered for a century."
as doug said: CARE BEARS IN WONDERLAND IS A BETTER ADAPTATION THAN THIS!
and this film and its 2016 sequel couldn't decide if they wanted to be direct followups, standalone films or both. these tim burton films just straight up sucks!
F#@K! THIS! MOVIE!!! AND IT'S 2016 SEQUEL TOO!!!
someone needs to chill the hell out.
This movie was awesome 😎
I liked this & the sequel tbh
Thank u for reaction to this guys!!!
