@@xuanquang9815 @ShadowofHawk I was thinking in more of a comedic way. They make plans and the other Cult somehow fuck it up unknowingly, and the people just live their lives.
The real question is, which is worse between the two? One is trying to summon the hive fleet which'll nom the planet into sterile rock, while the other wants to open a hole into hell and turn the place into a demon world.
I like the similarities between gene-stealer hybrids and Innsmouthers from Lovecraft's universe. There's something uniquely creepy about a human with characteristics of an alien monster like a deep one or a gene-stealer.
I always guessed the chaos cult gene stealers were a thing due to one of two theories. 1) Hive fleets not close enough which caused the cults a bit too much freedom in their choices. Something quickly stopped out when the Nids found out that chaos doesn't taste good. 2) the chaos gene stealer cults were the attempts to infect chaos, but the idea was disbanded when they realized the flaws with that plan.
Also, while infiltrating an Eldar Craftworld is ordinarily highly impractical, one of the Ynnari novels featured a Craftworld that voluntarily surrendered to the Genestealers in a desperate bid to save their souls from Slaanesh (this was before the development of soulstones, so I have no idea how that fits into the timeline, but it's a cool idea).
Better then the dark eldar who knowingly started implanting genestealer cultist mutations onto themselves as a fashion statement then getting obsessed with the tyranids Rakarth stole from real space to sell to wyches and haemonculii.
@@JohnSmith-tt3go well there is a novel where a nid broke in and ate there souls I'm not kidding so maybe getting eating by nod is somehow better than getting eaten by she who thirst
It is very nice to see Arch cover the Tyranid Genestealer cults. These kind of Warhammer videos that go over how new groups (like the Chaos/Genestealer cults) are created are very nice.
I recall some old lore (or maybe some lore discussion) that said Orks could be infected, but it was pointless since due to the orks connection to the waaagh!! Other orks would quickly sense something was off ("oi, dem boys ain't right!") And would quickly lead to the infected orks getting torn apart by the others.
That's still canon. Orks sense un-Orky behaviour, and even if they didn't, the sheer amount of casual violence in Ork society would probably exterminate the Cult in its nascent stages by pure accident.
yes that is the lore no idea where he gets his info from on this subject the infected orks are also perfectly capable of reproducing hybrids through their spores its just that slowly the implanted orks are outcompeted without the waaaagh energy on their side but they are able to set up tribes in large enough numbers to call the hive
The best part of Tyranid/Ork lore is the fact that even after being digested by the Tyranids and remade into new creatures (e.g. Squigs), as soon as those creatures meet back up with Orks again they immediately recognise their kin, totally abandon their Tyranid programming and just join back up with the Orks who are still fighting against the Tyranids. I've always found that little bit of lore to be completely adorable. :D
I believe it also had to do with their discolouration and since "GREEN IZ BEST" the Orks kill any none green Orks IMMEDIATELY Orks are too violent to each other and too well in sync with waaagh energy to be infected, infiltration will never work (unless you are a digga Nob apparently) so really the only way to deal with them is a straight up fight or decapitation attack (just how they like it)
I liked the way they where shown in one of the ciaphus cain books. The infected orks where severely hampered by their inability to infiltrate ork society so they where forced to live on the outskirts and scavenge and occasionally abduct an ork
In the 1989 Compendium they had army lists for both Genestealer Cults and Chaos Genestealer Cults. There was also a Harlequin army list as the last entry in that publication.
There was a later list for genestealer cults as well for 3rd/4th in one of the citadel journals. I never saw one made, unfortunately, but it looked a lot of fun and still had the up armoured limos
There was a mention of genestealers on Krieg ... according to the book, it was quickly discovered, dispatched, and the person who discovered it was also executed on the spot.

Random thought. SIM Hive. You control the management and construction of a hive city not just in 2D like the SIM city series but also in the 3rd dimension. Then an expansion where you control a Genestealer Cult infiltrating and ultimately if you do it right, taking over the hive!
I've always wondered what would happen if a Patriarch somehow (likely through the interference of a rogue Magos Biologis or Fabulous Bill) got the part of itself that calls out to the greater Hive Mind removed. Given many Patriarchs and Purestrains actively flee from Hive Fleets, a Patriarch that no longer calls to them may well just become their own faction independent of the Tyranids. That would be interesting to see.
I believe they start to flee once they figure out what the hive fleet actually is and what will happen if they stay. Though I also recall lore that said the hivemind basicly controls them once it gets close enough at which point they cease beeing independent.
My favourite Cult is the Hivecult, a warrior cult that started when a bunch of Hive Gangsters thought that importing some very illegal and very expensive Genestealers off the black market would give them the edge in their endless gang wars. Let's just say that only a single Hive City on the planet is still holding out.

If I remember, Orks can tell genestealer cults aren’t orks because they aren’t violent enough and they surprisingly do NOT grow bigger after fighting. So genestealer orks are always smaller then normal orks.
I was thinking about this today whenever I was mowing the lawn and it hit me the orcs have a hive mind, so an orc hybrid would not be connected to the same Waaagh energy This would basically mean that any orc hybrids would have the same effect as a blank. Am I thinking correctly? This was the comment that I posted up higher. It’s affectively the same thing that you’re saying good job and being smart too. 🙂
A major feature to me is how little information the imperium shares with low-level positions. Your average local sheriff probably doesn't know what a Tyranid is, nevermind how to recognize an early gene stealer cult generation looks like. They would probably assume it is some new form of mutant, kill it, and move on with the never-ending list of crimes they have to deal with. I would expect anything short of Arbites or Inquisitorial intervention would have a relatively slow response, and need a well fleshed out pattern of multiple gene stealers getting discovered to recognize that there is a larger threat to the planet.
For some reason, I’m now imagining genestealers arriving on a grox-farm agri-world, and trying to create an army from within the billions of grox roaming the planet. 😅
Since you brought up Tau there are actually two short stories involving Tau and GSCs. One of which is more telling. Basically the Tau infested GSC turn into a more Grey hue which is very telling. Tau don't have much in the way of mutations amongst the race. I believe there is one Sept World where the Tau born there have now a more greenish hue due to something with the sun but that's the exception that proves the rule. Etherals can't go "you've been infected by space bugs" but the mutation is just more apparent.
17:00 Cain encounters a massive room of hibernating Genestealers while lost in the Spawn of Damnation during the events of The Emperors Finest, so this is definitely something that occurs.
Arch, the (latest edition of) Space Hulk rule booklets mention some small tidbits about the Genestealer life cycle and mention hibernation, and I seem to remember Death Watch : Overkill also had some info about the Cults, Swarms and their life cycles.
You know what would be cool? An Only War campaign where you are the PDF working for an Inquisitor fighting a late-stage and highly entrenched Genestealer cult having to make do because he can't get literally any other help dealing with the bastards.
I thumbed through the latest genestealer codex and it seems to imply giving either gender this “kiss” to rewrite their genes to make sure their first born is a hybrid with a mental urge to have a child.
The Genestealer Hybernation comes from what i call the flatstealers in Space Hulk, the ones that had these weird shaped art/models. They stated Genestealers could hibernate due to being on empty hulks floating in the void.
14:50 I thought you'd rather mention Detroit or Chicago in regards to "imagine a Genestealer infestation" Defunding the Police sounds like a great way to weaken the local resistance and allow for more chaotic spread and recruitment, at least in short bursts.
A game where you have multiple factions on a planet competing for control would be great. You can start as the Imperium trying to keep gangs, Chaos Cultists, and GeneStealers from causing issues. On the other hand you could play as Chaos one of the 4 gods or undivided all with different play styles trying to open a warp gate. Or as a GeneStealer Cult infection trying to take over and signal the fleets of Tyranids. And lastly and most difficult a group of elites funding gangs and private armies to take over the planet and then succeed from the Imperium. This game would be so cool as it could just be against one on a small agri world or a massive industrial world where there is one of each for a 8 way war. The Imperium has local law enforcement and PDF, if it's a big enough world then add in some Guardsmen Regiments and a Arbites Garrison. If you are doing well enough with supplies for the Imperium then they send you more Regiments or even possibly some Sisters of Battle to help stop the rebellion if you hold on long enough.
disappointed that there isn't more pony lore, I truly feel that Arch found his calling with that one....also I never knew how fucked up the kiddy pony show was and I wanna learn more now, lmao.
Ah yes, Necromunda has at least one of them, which is surprising as that's an Imperial Fists recruitment world. 6:00 - Hive Fleet Kronos specialises in destroying chaos.
Yeah, you can really tell that ork-stealer hybrids stem from the 2e days, when orks actually did briefly shift from their standard sexually neuter form to a functioning male or female form to reproduce before reverting, rather than the modern lore, where orks are basically fungus-based biotech robot soldiers. And unlike the old lore of Chaos Orks and Mutant Orks, Ork-stealers really make no goddamned sense as something to bring forward.
17:00 I renember this bit of lore as well and im not that well read up on them. Maybe in one of the nid codexes? I checked the ones I have but I cant find it so maybe in some other source? Space hulk lore maybe? Space hulks tend to go through space for years at a time so it makes sense that they go into hibernation to awaken once something edible has entered the space hulk.
On the topic of Genestealer Hibernation- I seem to recall a certain spacehulk game using it- specifically, that the space wolves showed up and attempted to blitzkrieg'd the fuck out of a mostly sleeping genestealer swarm, rather then do what every other chapter who tried to board it did- Taking it slowly and all. Genestealer hibernation can be interrupted, but it seems to be a slow process to 'wake up'- since, how else would the genestealers survive on a space hulk for what seems like an indefinite time? Even tyranids need to use the biological fuels that humans do- Albeit due to certain choices, they aren't one to one. For example: Rippers cannot process what they eat, they do not have the on-board capability to do so. So it's theoretically possible to overfeed a ripper, and it being unable to consume any additional biomass. They do not turn off their psionic connection's either. If I recall- and that's not a very good citable source- They're psionic connection is what allows them to wake up from that hibernation- the hive basically tells them to wake up with their fancy dancy connection, so they do. And presumably, it's how they can react to things around them- Say, an angry viking wolf terminator walking into the living room, better start revving up the ol' engine! On the other topic- The spread. If I recall- Again, not a very citable source- The genestealer patriach- and perhaps all genestealers, have their "Genestealer kiss."-their inner mouth injector- That they can use to infect people, it's how they get their nice breeding stock as it rewrites the genetic code, so theoretically, a genestealer can infect a load of people, pull back, and see which of the people actually manages to establish the cult. Albeit at risk of someone in the know to check their genes- but a normal human initially infected doesn't look any different from any other human. It's only when you start having them breed that they produce the big red walking flags. It also means a genestealer can walk up to some random bloke, inject him, and let that bloke go on about his day, having been secretly turned- On the topic of the genestealer kiss- The genecults have if I recall correctly, learned how to take it out of papa Genestealer Patriach, so they no longer require a genestealer to be present when they inject new people.
On that topic- A male infected this way also produces new hybrids the old fashion way, same as the female persuasion- Even with an untained female or male. Though, I don't know if the untainted citizen would be so...Keen on that four armed baby coming out. Or if the act of...Producing the child would in fact also infect them. From what I recall of the genestealer hybrid gene plan, it's Step one: Produce fucked up hybrid. Step two: Produced slightly less fucked up hybrid Step there: Produce human-like, near undetectable human hybrid. Step four: Produce genestealer. Generationally, the hybrids get less fucked up [till y'know...] the further in the geneline they go, till they produce Real Proper Genestealers out of seemingly normal people. And further persumably, they don't want to rush to stage 4 genestealers because people tend to notice,
I think you’re thinking of the Ciaphas Cain book where they are on a space hulk and they encounter Orks and Jeanstealers He runs into a room full of them hibernating
You are right Gene Stealers can hibernate. I forget which book, but when Commisar Cain went on that Space Hulk with the Orks there was worry of hibernating Gene Stealers on board. Same book with Gene Stealer Orks

„Snackercide“ - good one!
Thx for the video, always a pleasure listening to you!
Friday. An almost hour long video from Arch. Its actually raining outside. Oh, the Emperor protects.
I would say hive world would be really easy to hunt. You’re just going to be hunting for giant rats and people and mutants.
My favorite conversational topic to begin this weekend
You know what would be cool? An Only War campaign where you are the PDF working for an Inquisitor fighting a late-stage and highly entrenched Genestealer cult having to make do because he can't get literally any other help dealing with the bastards.
I thumbed through the latest genestealer codex and it seems to imply giving either gender this “kiss” to rewrite their genes to make sure their first born is a hybrid with a mental urge to have a child.
I stand open to correction but the order of games release was Space Crusade, Advanced Space Crusade then Space Hulk and it's expansion Deathwing
It would be cool to have a game where you play as a cult infiltrating a world with a lot of logistical elements.
You have wonderful flat for sarcasm. I absolutely love it.
The Genestealer Hybernation comes from what i call the flatstealers in Space Hulk, the ones that had these weird shaped art/models. They stated Genestealers could hibernate due to being on empty hulks floating in the void.
14:50 I thought you'd rather mention Detroit or Chicago in regards to "imagine a Genestealer infestation"
Defunding the Police sounds like a great way to weaken the local resistance and allow for more chaotic spread and recruitment, at least in short bursts.
Tyranids engaging in a Long March through the institutions is *chef's kiss*
There is a Ciaphas Cain novel, the seventh I think with the Reclaimers, that features genestealers infiltrating a warband of orks on a space hulk.
This feels like it should have it's own version of Orcposting.
Inquisitor Duke Nukem is the most experienced in rooting out Genestealer Cults before they can even begin
"No one steals our chicks, and lives."
disappointed that there isn't more pony lore, I truly feel that Arch found his calling with that one....also I never knew how fucked up the kiddy pony show was and I wanna learn more now, lmao.
The proper phrase is "birthing bodies." Tears of the Emperor Arch!
Hope you keep making video about the genestealer cults, pretty awesome as always :D
For a long time I thought gene stealers were dude who stole the gene seeds of spacemarienes
Hey arch, did you see the video on tyranids using David Attenborough?
17:00 I renember this bit of lore as well and im not that well read up on them. Maybe in one of the nid codexes? I checked the ones I have but I cant find it so maybe in some other source? Space hulk lore maybe? Space hulks tend to go through space for years at a time so it makes sense that they go into hibernation to awaken once something edible has entered the space hulk.
Nom nom's lore. Lovely
They just want to give you a kiss
Scenes from Rocko's modern life comes to mind
Genestealer hibernation was mentioned in the Space Hulk 2014 Mission and Story book
Everyone be ride or die for the imperium until a busty bald mommy swipes right for you
If you notice a significant rise in the theft of jeans please notice the local inquisitor !
I found this just in time. I'm reworking final testament to be a genesteeler uprising for my next only war campaign.
That'd be such a shitty end to a Genestealer cult.
Day 3: You're out of fresh water.
Day 4; Everybody dies of dysentery.
Mission Failed.
It also means a genestealer can walk up to some random bloke, inject him, and let that bloke go on about his day, having been secretly turned-
On the topic of the genestealer kiss- The genecults have if I recall correctly, learned how to take it out of papa Genestealer Patriach, so they no longer require a genestealer to be present when they inject new people.
From what I recall of the genestealer hybrid gene plan, it's
Step one: Produce fucked up hybrid.
Step two: Produced slightly less fucked up hybrid
Step there: Produce human-like, near undetectable human hybrid.
Step four: Produce genestealer.
Generationally, the hybrids get less fucked up [till y'know...] the further in the geneline they go, till they produce Real Proper Genestealers out of seemingly normal people.
And further persumably, they don't want to rush to stage 4 genestealers because people tend to notice,
I think you’re thinking of the Ciaphas Cain book where they are on a space hulk and they encounter Orks and Jeanstealers
He runs into a room full of them hibernating
I still believe they should have kept the genesthealers and Tyranids separated... sthealers are good enough to stand tall in their own...
Ah yes....I need a refreshing on one of my most favorite xenos.
Genestealers would fit nicely into San Francisco or Portland. No one would notice a thing amongst the chaos there
Would Love To Hear That Chaos Infiltration Mental Experiment
You'd think an extragalactic alien supermind could adapt its minions some hair or something.
I've met a Genestealer hybrid irl before. Gross creature.
You are right Gene Stealers can hibernate. I forget which book, but when Commisar Cain went on that Space Hulk with the Orks there was worry of hibernating Gene Stealers on board. Same book with Gene Stealer Orks
