    As much as I hate what they do to the Emperor in Master of Mankind, the War in the Webway was one of my favorite parts of the Horus Heresy. The Imperium's finest trying desperately to hold the line against the tsunami of unreality represented by the fighting strength of all 4 gods plus however many other warp creatures getting drawn into the "mostly peaceful protest"/all you can eat buffet. It's amazing there were enough Custodes left to actually fight in the Siege.
    As for the gods of chaos getting into their glorified reality breaking sparring sessions, I wonder if Khorne gives a special delivery of the Orks from around his citadel as the occasional "screw you" to Slaanesh and Tzeentch.

      Your reference to mostly peaceful protests taking place in the war in the webway is more apt than you might realize. Carl Benjamin has a great podcast going over how each of the chaos gods in 40k can be mapped directly on to the modern neo marxist post modern leftist movements of today, BLM is Khorne, Fat Pride is Nurgle, Pride and LGBTQAAIP2+ is Slaneesh and Tzeentch is Academic post modernism and CRT. The podcast is truly brilliant and definitely worth your time.

      @@AlphariusandOmegon It was mildly interesting when he was saying it 10 years ago anyway. That framing of the modern social paradigm is old and tired at this point. The whole neo marxism take while possessing some degree of truth is overly simplistic and ultimately only still being pushed by people like Sargon because it's the only borderline socially acceptable way to approach these topics. Kinda funny though I guess. I would add the whole anti abelism crowd to the Nurgle camp. Nurgle loves his sick and crippled just as much as he loves his fatties.

    Slaanesh may be a piece of Khorne given independence by Eldar perversion: "But as is ever the case, Khorne was there to stem the flow of Delight... He sought to give all mortals time to bring an end to their corrupting decadence... Decay stood there beside war: "Give up" sighed Father Nurgle, "Give in to what must be. It is the nature of things that all cultures must rot"... and Tzeentch gazed upon the War God with amusement and disdain: "End this", he hissed, "For it must come to pass. There's one thing I still don't get. Why are Khorne and Slaanesh such bitter enemies? I mean, while pleasure and rage are certainly in conflict I don't see why they would put them at greater odds compared to say Khorne vs Nurgle. Meanwhile Tzeentch isn't given nearly as much attention despite practically being Khorne's antithesis by favoring subterfuge and magic. If anything you'd think Slaanesh's beef would be with Nurgle, what with how one is all about heightening the senses and striving for greater excess while the other prefers to dull the senses and languishes in rot, and also the whole Isha event.

    • @holo525
      @holo525 2 года назад +15

      Slaanesh being about excess feelings, acts and sensations means that while khorne gets power from act of bloodshed and murder the very act of people murdering another is an act of excess itself, so is the excess emotion of hate, survival instinct, satisfaction from a kill or pure relief of staying alive after a fight. It all feeds slaanesh too, each act of worhip khorne followers follow also inadvertently feds slaanesh herself.

      I see it as external and internal. Khorne is about the self, all about blood and attack. All sensations, pain, humor, comfort etc go away and you get that blood, you feel strong and enter a fugue state.
      Slannesh is all about what can you do, variation. Newer, different pleasure. More and more sensations, mar your beauty, grow new organs. Your slaves and enemies are obsessions, playthings. You still go insane, but due to spreading and drinking in so much stimuli. Slannesshi never do just one thing, and if they just concentrated within they'd probably die. Look at the Bile books; EC are always carving and mutating their cause, but when looking at their bodies they become despondent and bitter and part of their corruption is finding a way to keep feeling/distill drugs/survive the Blight.
      Each disgusts the other because of the sensations they manipulate; with Khorne you're robbed of simplicity, psychotic tranquility and the central idea of skulls is worthless because any tally or counting of something too long is meaningless. With Slannesh all the torture, playing and psychotic pleasure come to an end. No fun, no excess in what you want. No more feeding the pride and superiority and your enemy gives you literally nothing to gain or appreciate or surprise you. Imho

    I actually think it's deeper than that, Isha lives by different rules than the chaos gods, so maybe Nurgle is using that fact to bypass some rules that he otherwise couldn't?
    I mean, she is immune to all disease and in fact defies Nurgle by whispering secrets of healing to the few mortals that can hear her, but what if in doing so she allows Nurgle a greater degree of freedom on the material side?
    One of the rules binding him could easily be that he cannot create plagues for which there is no conceivable cure for example, since the last thing the chaos gods would want is for there to be no mortals to feed them, and in this case, Isha knows the cures to all diseases, so Nurgle can whip up whatever crazy pestilence he wants, because SOME mortal will always get the information and therefore the rule has been upheld.

    • @Alex_Fahey
      @Alex_Fahey 2 года назад +3

      How would you kill excess or anger? If somehow a Chaos God was killed, the fundamental drivers of that warp parasite which still exist in the real world (e.g. people still want to be the best in their field) will feed the same warp power base that created the god in the first place. At best, the victorious chaos god might be able to assimilate the loser into himself and become a halfway point between the orginal two gods in question, convince all the other god's worshippers to worship him, and controls both domains. At worst, the god is dead for precisely one nanosecond and then bitch slaps the victorious one in return for 'killing' him.

    • @astrovarius543
      @astrovarius543 2 года назад +3

      The victor would have to destroy all the loser's daemons as the daemons are individualised pieces of their god. If they do not, the defeated god would come back in the form of his most powerful demon, who'd become the new god.
      If all the daemons of the defeated god were destroyed, the energies they're sustained of would become an abundant "food" source for other warp entities. Those entities who feed on this new "food" would grow more and more powerful in this aspect, until eventually the fastest growing/biggest/strongest would absorb/kill/eat the others like him in competition for more of that "food". Eventually he would become the new chaos god of the aspect left behind by the defeated chaos god, ultimately replacing him.
      I like to think something along these lines is happening to Malal/Malice, and that's why he's presently absent from the setting.

    I don't think the Necrons could invade the warp. They're purely physical in nature, no souls no presence in the warp, same for blanks. My thought would be that humans and other races with souls can exist there because they are of both worlds in some respect. The soul allows the body to exist in and influence the immaterium, just as the body allows the soul to exist in and influence the material.
    Though having said that, the Necrons might be able to do to the Realms of Chaos they to the material world with warp storms and rifts. Turn it into something more like their own realm. The Necrons were just trying to wall off reality, but maybe the technology can be applied offensively.

      @@robertnelson9599 I'm no lore master, but the question that always arises in my mind is what chaos actually fears in the Emperor...if he is human, his emotions should therefore be part of the chaos gods. I'd think they'd see him as a kind of nuclear reactor for chaos, a great plaything like Horus. (Big E's actions did cause a fair amount of chaos in his attempt to create order) Unless he is something like the Zen concept of Mushin. A state of "No mind" where, rather than relying on emotion, one disconnects and just does as the material world dictates...Big E's not really written that way, but who knows his innermost beliefs or what he's thinking as he passes time sitting on the golden throne...
      In this way I can see why chaos would hate the Necron. Cold logical machines without emotion...and that brings up the issue, are the chaos gods on a lower tier than the C'tan? It would seem so as the C'tan are physical manifestations of the universe of which the warp is the reflection. Seems the C'tan could "Shatter the mirror" as it were and destroy chaos utterly, but that would entail destroying all sentient life in the universe. Which seems what at least the destroyers want to do. So would they be the pure C'tanic manifestation of the Necron race? The influence of the C'tan seeping into what's left of what the Necrontyr used to be?

    Ok question: How do other chaos gods play into this? I'm primarily talking about Gork and Mork here. Because my headcanon is that gork and mork are simply too preoccupied beating the living shit out of each other to care about that stupid little game the other gods are playing. In my mind it's also that sometimes gork and mork may roll around straight through the realms of chaos and the other gods essentially just get out of their way, sigh and when gork and mork have rolled past they pick up their game pieces that were thrown off the table of destroyed by stray blows. Kind of a "the cat jumped on the table" situation.
    Also, what about the emperor? Could the emperor create his own land and faction within that war? The existance of the legion of the damned strongly suggests that the emperor (or a warp entity formed by the collective believe in the emperor) does have it's own demons. Does the emperor have some kind of chaos domain somewhere but just not within the chaotic realm of the four primary gods?
    Also, wasn't there once a chaos god of order? Wouldn't such a chaos god be the biggest cheat faction in this war? Because such a god could theoretically force the other gods to play by the rules at least within his own domain. "You are trying to send a two hundred km tall titan against me? Sry, the rules of physics clearly say that a construct this size will collapse under his own weight. Try again."

      And created a heaven for his worshiper.
      A heaven he protects from chaos with his loyal subjects help.
      The warp is shaped by real space believe's, emotions, etc.
      The whole emperor hurts chaos is because it is believed to be so.

So, could a pariah walk into the eye of terror and exit into the realms of chaos? Would the eye of terror even exist for the pariah/would the eye of terror even affect a pariah? The chaos gods can essentially just pick a random human from the material universe and transport him to the realms of chaos. But could they do the same to a pariah (assuming the chaos gods could even perceive the pariah)? And assuming a pariah could enter the realms of chaos, how would that affect them? Both the pariah and the realms of chaos. I imagine that the pariah would essentially enforce a degree of reality onto his surroundings. So for example if he walks on solid rock that solid rock cannot spontanously turn into liquid nitrogen or some other bullshit. So in theory, could you wage conventional war in the realms of chaos by bringing a shitload of pariahs and center your battle formations around them?

    Honestly must of been a real challenge for the chaos gods to keep a straight face when "submitting to Horus." 🤭

    I hypothesize that in the case of Isha, and to an extent Khaine and Cegorach, it was like attracts like, that is, the goddess of life was subsumed into the greater deity of life and death. Khorne and Khaine, gods of killing, Cegorach and Tzeentch, gods of cunning, this seems more like the Three chaos gods preserving aspects of themselves in the Eldar Pantheon from the new Goddess’ depredations.
    Also, it would be cool to have a miniseries about Horus’ crusades in the Warp

    Are WE the Chaos Gods? Playing at war, calling it a Game, playing by gentlemanly rules to increase the enjoyment of the conflict of the lesser beings that we control.

      If that’s the case, then why are most of the players pro Imperium?

      @@orrorsaness5942 Because, just like to the Chaos Gods, it doesn't matter which side wins. Imperium, Chaos, Ork, Tyranid. All that matters is that the game has been played and we have had a good time. If that means enjoying playing Imperium forces, so be it, just have fun!

    What I want to know is how a mortal like Kaldor Draigo can exist in the warp for more than like 30 seconds.
